Drywall hanging, taping, fixing, finishing, and plaster repair.
My overall experience with Ace Drywall was fantastic. I would highly recommend their services. Dan was very responsive, and came out on the same day that I called and provided a estimate. The cost was good, and the quality of the work was excellent. Dan came out with his partner for 3 consecutive days, (due to needing to sand the mud and having to wait until it dries between coats) and was always on time, professional, courteous, and personable. His years of experience showed as the end result looked great. Dan even accomodated our schedule arriving earlier on one of the days.

We had three drywall companies out to give estimates on replacing an existing wall that the previous owners had constructed in a bizarre fashion. To replace the wall, one has to be detail oriented and care about the surrounding architectural features. Dan was that guy and I was grateful to know his exact thoughts on how he would achieve the fix. Others contractors either severely disliked communicating, or told me I'd have to sacrifice on the end result and scrap other architectural features in our family room. Dan scheduled up come out and complete the work in a few days. He and his coworker were courteous and diligent, and the final product was perfect. Dan also helped us understand how we could save money by doing some things ourselves, such as minor electrical work. I will use ACE for future projects especially important ones, but first I'll have to get Dan to agree ahead of time to take more care controlling the dust in my house. Although he pulled the blinds up and placed a work tarp down immediately in front of the wall, I had white dust everywhere in three rooms. It took me three vacuums, mopping, and then hand wiping the wood floors to get the residue off.

Dan Manno, the owner, came out exactly when he said he would. He looked at the all the damaged areas, told how much it would cost and why. He stressed that he believed in only doing the best quality work and that if I was looking for a quick fix, he probably wasn't the right guy. I believed him and the quality of the work shows it. Dan and his helper were on-site for 3 days and always showed up at 8:00Am, right when they said they would. The only complaint I have is sanding dust. Dust is always inevitable when drywall is sanded, but in my opinion, Dan did not do enough to control it. The spread tarps to try dust collection, but this was largely ineffective. I asked him why he didn't use one of the many HEPA vacuum cleaners that are available, and he said that he just didn't believe in them. As a result, we had quite a bit of sanding dust to clean up ourselves. In my opinion, Dan is an old-world craftsman kind of guy who doesn't believe in some modern solutions. This is why I gave him a B rather than an A. If I could have, I would have given him an A-. The bottom line: if you can stand some dust and you are willing to pay a little more to get quality work from a guy who has pride in what he does, then Ace Drywall is for you.

The quote was unusually high (3x the previous quote), and the company insisted on a $25 fee just for giving a quote. A fee I will NEVER pay again. But money was not the main reason we did not use the service. The reason was mostly because of the interaction with the person giving the quote. The person was not pleasant to talk to, spending an unusual amount of time bad-mouthing the competition, and having a generally racist attitude about minority workers employed by the competition. While we were willing to pay a premium for quick service, and this service was available almost immediately and would have been very convenient with our busy schedules, the estimator lost the job just from his behavior.

The drywall on either side of our sliding glass door had been patched several times over the years (home is 30 years old). The drapes literally fell onto the floor one evening, one side pulling the anchors out, causing the other side to completely tear out of the wall. Dan came out to quote the job on Tuesday - he was professional, courteous and completely understood the job. During his inspection, he determined that the side where the anchors had pulled out of the wall could remain as is by simply reinstalling existing hardware using longer wood screws to anchor the hardware directly to a stud in its original place. This saved us money. He did not have to repair both sides. Worked started the next day on Wednesday. On the other side where the torn drywall was located, a section of the drywall had to be removed to install a 2" X 10" reinforcement inside the wall and a new section of drywall had to be installed, taped, sanded and finished. Dan opened the wall and found there was no stud in the corner but was able to modify the correction to complete the task. As promised, the job took three days and was done right. It came out beautifully! I can not tell that the wall was ever opened. I highly recommend Ace Drywall for any drywall problems you may have. I will call him again if I ever need help with a drywall issue.

Dan was always very pleasant. Came to look at job and gave me a quote of $700.00. When he started the job, informed me it was more detailed then he first thought and wanted to completely remove and replace the ceiling. Told him this was not an option and for him to proceed with repairs the best he could. He was in my home 4 hours one morning, returned to sand and patch then following two mornings. $1000 cost for perhaps 6 total hours of work and little to no material. The ceiling looks good and I was in a bind, but I wouldn't use him again,

When my addition was built by previous owners, they left the ceiling uneven and tape joints sagging, recessed or cracked. There were also bad tape joints in some areas of the walls. I had some electric work done that left 2 good sized holes in the walls. I removed 2 recessed speakers and a flush wall jack that left 3 more good sized holes in the walls. My plan was to do the repairs myself, but after attempting to repair the ceiling, it didn't look any better so I decided I needed a professional. I checked Angie's list and found ACE Drywall. I called and spoke to Dan, he was working a few blocks from me so he was able to come over the following day. Dan spent a lot of time with me going over what needed to be done. We decided to repair the holes and tape joints in the walls. The best solution for the ceiling was to cover it with 1/4" drywall. He showed me where the drywall joints in the ceiling were and why they cracked. He said he would install the new drywall with glue and screws and stagger the joints so that they were in different locations from the existing joints. He had several other jobs and couldn't start for 3 weeks. He gave me a price and said the total job would take two people (him and Mike) 4 days. I called him that afternoon to schedule the work. Dan and Mike were here 3 weeks later as promised and were finished in 4 days. They kept me informed on what each days work would be and what to expect. I've worked with drywall before and I "expected" a lot of dust. When they were finished (in 4 days as promised), the ceiling was perfect and other than the difference in color (white plaster on a painted wall), you can't tell where the tape joints in the walls are or where the holes used to be. BEST OF ALL, almost no plaster dust. I was anticipating spending a day or two for plaster dust clean up, it only took a few minutes. After the room was painted there are no signs there were ever any holes in the walls or ceiling trouble. After they were done, Dan said the ceiling was also sagging (the new drywall work repaired the sag) and another room looked like it has a similar issue. He said it wasn't an immediate problem and told me how to check it and repair it the next time I paint. Dan and Mike have great pride in their work and it shows in every step of the project. My wife and I couldn't be happier, the room looks brand new.

Dan was able to schedule us in within two weeks time. He and his coworker Mike arrived each morning on time even though they are located about an hour away from our home. They even brought scaffolding prior to the start day and got it set up to save time! Dan first brought Mike around to review the work, and Mike immediately suggested that another seam on the bath soffit was bubbling and needed to be replaced to correct the soffit appearance. The crimp in the corner bead was at a joint between pieces of bead and Mike was easily able to repair the joint. Dan & Mike were surprised at the number of types of tape the previous contractor had used, three I believe, and how much joint compound was applied to the tape. They worked together to remove the old tape and compound after carefully laying out tarp to protect our carpeting. By the time they left the first evening, we knew we had found a great drywall company through Angie's List! We could already see an improvement in the seams and I had observed Mike and Dan trimming out the end corners of the tape so that once the tape was applied, there were no overlaps to add depth to the seams. They returned the next day to hand-sand between joint compound coats (a step that was largely skipped by the other contractor) and ventilated the room with box fans to help limit dust. It took another couple of day's work to complete, but we now have a great looking bedroom ceiling, ready to prime and paint, as well as a terrific bathroom soffit. Ace finished on budget and on time and did an excellent job of eliminating as much compound dust as humanly possible. Dan also recommended using a particular brand of primer made by USG, called "First Coat" which we purchase last weekend. This coming weekend we will begin priming and painting. We're looking forward to moving back into our room soon. Thanks Dan and Mike for all your hard and difficult work in our home! We'd gladly recommend Ace Drywall to anyone in need of drywall installation or repair!
Description of Work: We hired Ace Drywall to repair a vaulted bedroom ceiling that had been "fixed" by another contractor. It is a good-sized room, approx. 16 X 19', with two faces on exterior walls. We had multiple long ceiling cracks and nail/screw pops and the other contractor replaced the angled portion of drywall, retaped and painted the room. That contractor left the corners at the walls rounded, there were no clean lines, and their seams were not at all smooth. Where the corners should have appeared to be continuous from the flat portion of the ceiling all the way down to the floor, no such straight lines existed. Dan came out quickly after first contact, reviewed the existing condition of the seams, and decided he would be able to remove all the tape from the seams that had been repaired, refinish other seams that were not at all smooth, and leave us with true corners and seams. He brought a sample piece of a stronger, flexible tape that was much more expensive than other varieties, but in his opinion would solve our issues. We also added a repair to a plumbing soffit in a bathroom that had a poorly installed corner bead which gave the appearance of being crimped.

Our job went on for about 8 days over a two week period, first repairing the ceilings in the two rooms at the front of the house. Then the following week shifting everything to do repairs in the family room at the back of the house. Lots of upheaval, but well worth it! Dan is responsive, fair and does what he says he is going to do. He showed up on time, treated us and our home with respect, leaving the "work in progress" clean and as neat as possible each day. And his work is impeccable. Our ceilings look beautiful and PERFECT. Dealing with Ace Drywall and Dan Manno has been one of the most positive experiences for us as homeowners and we are thrilled with the results.
Description of Work: Dan and his assistant made repairs in 3 rooms of our home. They repaired multiple cracks in the plaster ceilings of our living and dining rooms, and cracks in two walls of the dining room. The living room ceiling was completely resurfaced, They also repaired, re-secured and re-surfaced the ceiling in the drywall ceiling of our family room. Our house is a 60-year old cape cod with a 20-year old family-room addition.

I attempted to drywall a kitchen renovation on my own. The ceiling proved to be quite difficult and I decided to call in a professional. I was so pleased after his first day on the job that I asked them to complete several other areas requiring patching. The work was completed today and we are very pleased with the result.

Dan was punctual and ready to go everyday him and his partner came to work. They were expert's in drywall and knew exactly what to do. They stayed on schedule and stuck to the plan. Along with fixing the cracks, he was able to measure the new drywall perfectly for our recessed lighting. Everyday they cleaned up and overall did a great job. I love looking up and not seeing those darn cracks anymore.
Description of Work: We had many cracks in our kitchen ceiling. Two of the extra-extra long cracks got repaired. The other part of the ceiling was taken down and new drywall was installed. Response from ACE DRYWALL
I'm sorry Member felt my estimate was so high. This was a very large basement project that had to be done in 2 phases. My first comment is that I would have travel time of approx. 3 hrs each day to and from the job(along with tolls) and the project could take up to 4 weeks(because of the 2 phase part). The ceilings were 9' high, which requires 54" drywall (all drywall should be hung perpendicular to studding ,which will require an additional man just to get the drywall into the basement). The project requires a minimum of 60 8' corner bead and 30' of bull nose bead, along with the odd angles. We are a licensed, fully insured(including workers compensation), and bonded company. We have been in business for over 20yrs. with an A+ rating from the BBB, and super service awards for 2 years running with Angie's List. Quality work takes time and effort and is not cheap. One last comment... I did not perform any work for the King's and this was an estimate.

I own a rental property, and used Angie's list for the first time. Ace Drywall was very professional, they scheduled an appointment to come out and view the damage with my tenant directly. Once assessed, they called me promptly with a quote. They even came by to pick up the $25.00 deposit. Unfortunately, they don't take credit cards, only cash/check. Once the work was done, he came by again to pick up the remaining balance. Work was done professionally and on time.
Description of Work: Replaced ceiling drywall after a leak from the bathroom upstairs. The drywall replaced had to be hung around an existing recessed light in the ceiling.
