I was looking to install hardwood in my entire lower level and one upstairs bedroom. I interviewed 3 hardwood flooring companies, and choose Access Flooring because I felt most comfortable with them at the time. Peter seemed very knowledgeable and offered some good advise on the floor and the color. His pricing was also very competitive. The installation went smoothly and on time. We were happy, and I paid in full as soon as the project was done. After the installation, I contacted Peter because I wanted to have someone come out and make some repairs to a few surface scratches and a couple dull spots in the finish. It took some time, but someone did finally come and make the repairs at no charge.
Description of Work: Installation of hardwood floors, and refinishing of existing floors.
The overall quality of the installation was reasonable (rating of B to B-). I did specify in my contract that the floor is to be installed in accordance with National Association of Wood Flooring installation guidelines, which the owner said he was familiar with. However, those guidelines specified certain type and length of screws to be used when securing an additional subfloor to an exisiting one; and, those screws should be spaced a certain distance and should be driven a specific distance from the edges. There should also be a minimum 1/8" space between plywood sheets to allow for expansion. When I inspected the installation, there was nothing close to the number of screws that should have been used. And, the plywood sheets were butted against each other with no space to allow for wood expansion. I brought this to the attention of the owner; so some additional screws were put in, but not the recommended amount or spacing. He also said they would cut reliefs for expansion; this was not done. The flooring was to be stapled down using 2-1/4" staples. . .I found some stray magazines of staples that measured 1-3/4". The first row of plank flooring should be screwed down as specified by guidlines; the contractor objected to this, but eventually complied; many of these planks are split, which tells me they may not have drilled appropriate pilot holes. The doors that were removed to allow ease of installation have not worked the same since they were reinstalled by the contractor; some bifold doors barely open and may even need to be replaced. The hole that was cut in the additional subfloor and hardwood for the toilet was cut to a few inches to big and had to be rigged by a plumber. The owner disagreed with me on this, but I have to believe the two licensed plumbers I consulted with. To make a long story short. . .I had a very strong impression that they cut corners where they could and they were quick to cover up so that it could not be discovered. I guess the bottom line is. . .they were very reasonably priced. . .I guess you get what you pay for. They did a nice job with the baseboard and molding, marking the studs to ensure penetration.
Description of Work: Installation of approximately 800 square feet of solid hardwood flooring above grade, including addition plywood subflooring, baseboard and shoe molding.

The work was to start at 8 am. There was a no show as of 830 am so I called. I was told "I was going to call you.."That should of been done as soon as he knew there was to be a delay. They didn't get to my house until 1045 with caused me to have to cancel a 2 pm appt I had. But I have heard worse stories than mine...This is why they got a C for punctuality and B for professionalism.
Description of Work: I found them thru the newspaper. My estimate was done very promptly and the price was good as it involved a hallway and 7 stairs as opposed to simply a room. The work looks very good. Floors stairs look new. There is a small issue with the flooring informs of 1 door that the owner said they would stop by soon to fix. We will see about that and if not done I will update this report.
