Description of Work: Emergency after-hours removal of a squirrel in our fireplace chimney - plus installation of (2) chimney caps. I wasn't quite prepared for the after-hours cost, but they came in a TIMELY fashion and provided expert removal of the poor animal and did a fine job on the chimney caps.

+ -1 moreArrived on time. I brought him into the house and showed him the room where I heard activity in the attic. He talked about the company and what services they provided. I thought we had squirrels in the attic so he went outside and on to the roof. When he came back we were told everything on the roof,i.e., chimney,attic fan, skylight ridgevent were in good shape and properly capped. He saw no animal activity on the roof. When he came in he told us there were most likely mice in the attic because he saw mouse droppings around the bird feeder next to the house and mice were getting in under the siding. He suggested putting "blue blocks" in the attic where the mice were most likely living. He said they would come back in several weeks and check to see how much the mice had eaten, and come back again after several weeks. He said the mice would leave the attic to go off and die. Since we have 2 dogs I was concerned about them finding the dead mice and possibly ingesting them. He told us dogs typically do not ingest them and since the mice metabolize the substance quickly it would not harm them. As he was leaving he told us the program would be around $650. He also made sure he had my email address and said he would email me a copy of the work to be done the next day....That's the last we heard from and received no emails.

+ -1 moreI hired another company in 2011 when I first discovered the large hole by my foundation and front cement step. They set traps at two different times, but an animal never was caught and the hole wasn't dug out again for several months. When a new hole appeared in May, I read through reviews on Angie's List and called ABC. I decided I had to have animal proof screening installed to end the digging once and for all. A tech came out to give me an estimate and five days later the work was done as scheduled. They dug out the areas on both sides of the stoop where an animal could burrow and permanently installed metal mesh screening below ground. When the work was completed they evened out the dirt so you couldn't even see the screening. Great job. I know it works too because a week or so later there were three spots where something tried to dig a hole and burrow under the cement but couldn't. I smoothed out the dirt again and it hasn't happened again. My impression was that ABC Humane Wildlife was a bit more expensive than other services, but the slightly higher price was well worth it. My problem was addressed quickly, professionally, and completely.

He listens to my concerns and questions, and answer them very professionally. He's very good at following up too. He called and emailed a week after the service to make sure that we are happy. I would recommend their service to our friends.

+ 0 moreEach visit to claim an entrapped animal costs money, but overall it was worth it to know that the technicians knew what they were doing, and came pretty promptly as soon as I called. Each time there was a different technician, yet they all knew the story, so the work was consistent over the entire time period. When I found some debris from the chimney cap replacement, in the gutter, blown to the ground, they came out to pick it up no charge, also came out and replaced the soffit vent hole cover no charge when that had come loose from former replacement.
Description of Work: Over the course of a few weeks ABC came out and trapped squirrels that had broken into our attic, by putting bait/trap on roof. They also did a whole house inspection with the Angie's list deal. Also capped some vent holes in the fascia which had come uncapped and swallows were getting in and roosting. They cleaned and sanitized the interior areas in the attic affected. They replaced the vent covers and added metal netting on the roof that squirrels had gnawed at, and put on new chimney caps.

+ -1 moreABC Wildlife was called by us because my neighbor noticed bats flying around the peak of our roof one early morning. Mike LaBuda came out and did a very thorough inspection, inside and out. About a week later, we received ABC's proposal for work to be done to remove the existing bat nest and prevent return of bats to the house. The work was expensive but was done very professionally. We did nothave to do any cleanup after they finished work each day. We would also receive a phone call telling us when they were coming to our home and how long they expected to be working each day. A couple of weeks after the work was finished, we found another bat in the house in the early evening - it was quite lethargic, but it was there. ABC sent one of its employees out within 90 minutes of my call, in the pouring rain, to capture the bat and send it to the CDC for testing - luckily, the bat was not rabid. ABC studied this intrusion after another inspecting and concluded that the most recent bat must have been trapped in the house structure somehow, given its behavior. All of this was done per ABC's three-year guarantee, at no charge to us. ABC gets an A+ from us for its responsiveness, professionalism and polite employees. This work was expensive, but the three-year guarantee makes the cost a little easier to accept. I hope I never have to use them again but anyone with wildlife issues would be well served by ABC Wildlife.
Description of Work: An existing bat nest (?) was found, the bats removed, and preventive measures installed to keep bats away from the house.

I called large, national exterminators who each tried to pressure me into purchasing an annual plan at a very high subscription cost. I just wanted a company to come out one time and exterminate the yellow jacket nest. ABC Wildlife was zero pressure - they came out, Tyler thoroughly explained the problem and solution, and immediately exterminated the yellow jacket nest. I had a great experience, I will definitely use them again in the future for pest extermination.

+ -1 moreCame promptly when I called. I complained about running noises in my walls/attic. He examined my roof and soffit to locate point of entry, and set a trap near the most likely one. And he turned out to be correct. He asked that I call if anything appeared in the trap. Sure enough, one squirrel appeared the next day. He removed it and its trap, and replaced it with a new trap. A few days later, we caught another one, and he took that away. Over the next week, the trap was empty, and there was no noise from my attic. He removed the trap and patched the hole. No further problems.
Description of Work: Installed a trap on my roof. Came and replaced it twice when a squirrel was caught in the trap. Came back again to remove the trap and patch the hole thru which the critters had entered.

Description of Work: I came home from a 3 day business trip and smelled something horrible in my basement. Went downstairs to inspect the basement and noticed outside that a squirrel had died outside in my window well. I called my neighbor, who helped me get the thing out of my window well and we put it in a construction grade bag, sealed it, and put it inside a sealed plastic container and yet the odor was still horrendous. I had 5 days to garbage day and no where to dump this thing. I called several companies to find out if someone could just pickit up and dispose of it for me, and most wanted the full price to actually remove and dispose. After calling this company, they discounted the price for me since it was just to pick up and dispose. The person who picked it up even went in the back and sprayed to eliminate some of the odor for me, which I was not expecting, but very much appreciated. Very nice company to work with. No problems whatsoever and I will definitely use them again for any services I might need.

+ -1 moreThey were fabulous. They set out a trap, never caught him, but were able to use other tactics to keep it from coming back. They dug around my stoop and the foundation of my home and inserted a preventative mesh fencing in the ground to keep the skunks out. They cleaned everything up when they were done. They were very responsive to my needs and were punctual. The representative who initially came out was very knowledgeable and helpful as far as explaining everything to me. He was very professional and very caring. They were a little expensive, BUT well worth it. The very next spring, the skunk had returned and I watched him for almost 45 minutes digging into the ground. He then left. I was concerned, so I called the company back regarding my warranty. They came out that same day and looked at the work they did and verified with me that there were no signs that the skunk was able to get in and assured me everything was okay. The skunks came back later, and still being concerned, the company came back out to look at where he was trying to get in and still no sign that the mesh was coming out. Since then I haven not had to deal with skunks under my stoop. These guys were great!

+ -1 moreThe inspection service was performed in a very non-professional way without sufficient commnication with the customer. The service was supposed to be an "Animal Entry/Exclusion Inspection", but after the looking around the house, the inspector did not indicate clearly where are the possible holes or animal entries to the house at all, and did not explain anything useful to the customer for future improvement either. He simply said that a "full report" or some "proposal/estimate" will be sent via mail or Email to the customer and then ran away quickly. However, no report, and nothing, has ever been received at all since then -- even after a few calls being made to the company (and was told that it will be sent). This was a very lousy service which provided nothing to the customer. I would never recommend this "ABC" company to anyone in future.

My husband is very handy and he told me we could try and treat them ourselves or give them a call. + -1 moreFound ABC Humane Wildlife Control through our Towns Website. It claimed to be the cheapest find. Not So. Initially there was no service charge however they charge $65 everytime they come. They put the traps where you can see it NOT where it might be most effective. (you are to call them when you see an animal is trapped) They DO NOT come every day. They will only come when you call. When the trap needs to be refreshed they charge you $65 to come an put a cheap piece of meat. If you want them to come everyday that's $65 each day assuming you only call them to come once a day. We just got a bill from them claiming they they caught a raccoon. NOT TRUE. If they don't come unless you call them when you see an animal in their traps (we did not see an animal in their traps), how are they supposed to catch a raccoon? We ended up calling Animal Proofing Services in Northbrook. There was an initial charge. However they came Monday though Saturday at NO Charge. They also put food on the roof at NO Charge several times. The only time we were to call is on Sunday before 9:30 am (otherwise Sunday's fee is $15 if we do not call before 9:30am) However if the trap is in a location where we can't see it, they will come on Sundays free of charge. They came 7 days a week free of charge. Even during temperature in the high 90's to triple digit temperatures. We were lucky that it got hot enough that the Raccoons (Mother and Babies) left. They then installed an attic fan screen and reinstalled part of the soffit. If we were to insist ABC put the traps where it was most effective and then come every day to check on the traps we would have paid so much more for almost no service at all than what it cost us to use Animal Proofing Services in Northbrook.

Description of Work: We thought an animal might be burrowing under our front porch. They set up a trap (they never caught anything) & screened the area, so we didn’t have to worry about any animal getting under the porch again. They also took care of some bees they found while they were here.

+ -1 moreI was directed to ABC Humane Wildlife initially by a reference on my city's website and then sold by excellent reviews on Angie's list. They did not disappoint! ABC Humane Wildlife came out and inspected my attic and the area of the roof above where we were hearing the animal noise. No squirrels were actually found in the attic at the time, but the technician located a small hole it appeared they were using to get in. They set a trap on the roof and the next day we had caught a squirrel! Then a few more over the course of the next week or so. Once it appeared we had removed all offending squirrels, ABC Humane Wildlife came back and patched up the hole in the roof and we have been squirrel free ever since! Everyone I dealt with at ABC from the phone schedulers to the technicians were very knowledgable, professional and courteous. It was very easy to work with them, and I would not hesitate to use them again if need be.
Description of Work: Squirrel trapping and removal. Had an issue with squirrels in the attic - they were not actually removed directly from the attic, but they were trapped at their entry point until the issue was resolved.

+ -1 morecontractors and help these service folks be the best they can be by giving feedback-good or bad. I told Vito that I know sometimes crap happens, but their responsiveness and concern lacked. They were very unconcerned that they screwed up our day. I was further disappointed to be asked not to put up a bad review. If you check my report history, I seldom do, but it is our responsibility to report good and bad. It only makes the system better. ABC- make sure you are passing the right info on to your clients and be proactive and follow through with what you tell the client. I called another company that came the next day and found my problem and corrected-night and day difference in overall professionalism. On my original call I had identified myself as an Angiies list member, so a review should come as no surprise.
Description of Work: Heard a scratching against metal in a wall and thought a baby racoon or mouse had fallen from the attic down a pipe. Of course it was Sunday, so I checked Angies list and got 2 names. I called ABC and someone answered. After explaining the problem they told me they do have Sunday hours, but were booked and could be here between 8 and 10 on Monday. We rearranged our schedule and said fine. ABC calls at 9 on Monday to say they would be there between 11 and 1. I told them that we had shuffled around our schedule to be there earlier since they told us between 8-10. He said he would check and call us back-no, 11-1 so had to shuffle again, but I asked that they call us back to let us know when headed this way. Almost 1, no one had showed and I had to call them back. They finally showed up after 2 and my husband met them. I called to talk to the technician who could not find the problem and upon questioning realized he never went totally through my attic to the area that the problem may have emanated from. Yet he was ready to sell me all kinds of solutions to keep something from getting in the attic. I was irritated that this had been a total waste of a day and had to continually call them back to check status of technion arriving. Vito called the next day to see if we would like them to proceed with all the services their technician had suggested. I was surprised, considering it had been one of the worst service experiences I had had in a long time and I told him that I didn't think so and that I had drafted a negative review for Angies. He asked me to not put up a review and if there was anything he could do to convince me not to do so. I thought about it and did tame down the original scathing review as it was written when angry, but it made me think of the responsibility all Angies List members have. They were higher priced than other companies and they didn't really take care of my problem at all, which means I'm re-enlisting the services of an animal control company this spring. UPDATE: April 2012 As I mentioned above, I employed another company this year to take care of my raccoon problem after ABC Wildlife failed to take care of the issue last year. Not only did this other company take care of my problem within one week, but they also gave me a quote (which I took them up on) to put some screens in my attic fans and chimney as preventative measures for the future. The cost the other company performed this work for was literally HALF of what ABC Wildlife quoted me last summer. Like I said, other companies are far more worth the money and will take care of the problem. I cannot believe I wasted so many sleepless nights last summer on this company.
Description of Work: I called ABC Wildlife last summer (writing this review in Spring 2012) after we had heard a raccoon in our attic. We haven't been in this house long, so our neighbors filled us in that this is a raccoon that has been in our house before. We were also told that this raccoon was trap savvy, as she'd been in a trap before and busted her way out. We told all of this info to ABC Wildlife. First off, they were just really dinky in their approach to catching the raccoon. They really wanted to keep trying things (at a great expense) when there were other more aggressive methods that would have worked sooner. For example, they left the trap on our roof for over two weeks, when 1) we told them we didn't think she would be inclined to go into a trap given her history and 2) most other companies I've spoken with move on from the initial trap after a few days. The other thing that really upset me was that I received a bill in the mail after about two weeks for a service I had not asked to be performed. The amount I mentioned above is for the initial inspection and setting the trap. I received a bill for a day when they stopped by to check the trap, but 1) didn't call me to notify me of this and 2) said it was state law and that they had to bill me for it. What I will say is that you sign a contract for services at the beginning of service, so none of this info was in that contract and it wasn't something I agreed to pay. They did drop the bill, and at that time (after calling for a second opinion on the matter) I asked them to remove the trap. The raccoon had moved on by this time, and low and behold, she's back now that it's spring and I'm calling another company. Lastly, I will say that for the price, they are by far the highest for those services of any animal control places in Lake County. The company I just now contacted cost $155 for the initial appointment, and will only charge about an additional $50 if the animal is caught and removed. ABC wanted to charge $89 just to have some guy check and rebait the trap, whereas this other company I have now employed checks the trap (and rebaits) daily as part of the initial fee.
