Preston Thompson is untrustworthy, extremely tardy, and unprofessional. Do not waste your money, time, or peace of mind with this individual. Preston BREACHED CONTRACT by starting the project nearly an hour later than what was agreed upon on the contract that HE wrote up. When he finally arrived Preston had no supplies or materials handy. Upon arrival, we paid Preston 50% of the total estimate by check—he left IMMEDIATELY to cash the check, “purchase materials”, and give an estimate to another customer. He returned roughly 3 HOURS LATER with disposable tarp. Also upon returning to our residence, Preston asked if we could pay him by Zelle mobile banking instead of by check because his bank would not give him immediate access to funds cashed by check. We obliged. WE also SUPPLIED the ladder, steamer, scraper, scorer, and the removal solutions that he used over the next 3 hours to remove a mere 2 feet by 4 feet of wallpaper. Our project was then neglected by Preston, who canceled every subsequent work appointment after the first and only day he came to work at our home. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that our project would’ve been completed anywhere close to the 4 days he had left on the work order. Furthermore, when we expressed our frustrations and requested a cancellation and refund, Preston AGREED to pay back the funds. We even agreed that instead of sending back $1175 (which was the full refund), that Preston could keep $150 as compensation for the work he had done, and he would send back $1025. In fact, Preston said he would pay it back by later that same evening. The next day the money had still not been returned. When asked, Preston’s reason for not sending the money was that he was just “trying to make some funds available from other work” he was doing—which is ridiculous considering that he could not have spent much money on materials or supplies for our project considering all he purchased was disposable tarp. For nearly a month I have been trying to recover the funds we agreed on. Preston has been avoidant.

Preston started the work approximately October 15, 2010. He had dropped some equipment off the previous day. The first day he did the majority of the drywall taping and mudding, except the part over the garage door which I mentioned to him at the end of the day. He came back several days later and sanded the drywall. In the mean time he had subcontracted for the construction of the steps and entry platform into the house to Jason Wood who came and in one evening completed the construction of the steps and entry platform. After a number of phone calls asking Preston when he was going to finish the work, he finally showed up and applied a primer coat of paint to the ceiling, walls and new entry steps. There were numerous phone calls to him over a period of the next 2 -3 weeks asking when he was going to finish the job. He never came even after he claimed to be on his way, he never showed up. He also refused to answer his phone for a 2 day period and would not return phone calls. It was now November 5 and the work still wasn't finished. He initially promised to complete the job in a week. After numerous additional phone calls and promises to complete the work the next day, it was only after we threatened to seize his equipment that he finally came and appied a finish coat of paint (sort of) to the primed drywall and steps. He left with his equipment at the end of that day and we have not seen or heard from him since. On October 10, he was paid $ 1,000.00 as per the original agreement. On October 12 he requested and was paid an additional $ 400.00 because he said he had an overdue utility bill and really needed the money. Shortly after that the subcontractor came and completed the work on the steps and the landing. the subcontractor was paid $ 468.07 for his labor and materials which was considerably more that the original estimate of $ 300.00 quoted by Preston. This was after we allowed them to re-use the old steps into the house to save money. The following is the current status of the work: Drywall taping and mudding was never completed above the garage door. The primer coat was sprayed on and did an acceptable job except there were no drop cloths put down so the floor and a refrigerator was completely splattered with overspray. I also had taped all of the door knobs and light switches or he would have painted over them. The finish coat of paint was applied rather poorly and will require a considerable amount of time to finish with touch up around door frames and light switches. The garage floor was never even started as the weather had gotten too cold for that portion of the project to be completed. The concrete patch material that Preston applied to the garage floor has now all come loose. In is now June and we have not heard from him about finishing the job and have contacted another individual to complete the garage floor. I either have or will complete the painting behind the garage door and the touch up around the other places that were missed. We would like to warn people about this business and this individual. He is totally unreliable and is not to be trusted even with a signed contract. We would not recommend anyone do business with him or any of his businesses. We have since learned that he may be doing business under other company - Always Professional Painting.
