Miller Construction IL

Our home was built by Miller Construction IL and was completed February 2016. This was the first home we have had built, so we have limited perspective. However, there were some issues that we felt were major and warranted a review. Some of the main issues were as follows: The home was not (and still isn't) insulated completely, the roof had multiple leaks (that were detected by us) and they were repaired correctly only after we hired our own inspector who identified incorrectly installed flashing, they were using roofing paper as our wood floor underlayment- Miller Construction did remove and replace it after we notified them that per the MSDS, it should only be used outside and had class 1A carcinogenic chemicals in it , we were misinformed about the severity of a water leak in the master bathroom when the plumbing was tested and became aware that it was more severe when the ceiling below that bathroom was sagging with water, lumber with evidence of mold was used in the framing, and we had to hire someone to clean our ducts because they were not protected during drywall sanding so they were full of drywall dust. Overall, we felt that there was poor oversight of the subcontractors as we felt that these and other problems were only caught because we were at the job site often. Finally, we are over 8 months after the expiration of our 1 year warranty period and are still waiting for items to be repaired that were agreed upon before the end of the warranty period. We have also found the communication put forth by the owner extremely poor. Update: Due to our review, Miller Construction IL (name changed on the BBB to New Homes IL at the time of this writing) has refused to proceed with ANY of the remaining agreed upon warranty obligations unless we sign an agreement that would censor any reviews we write. We do not feel that this is an appropriate request, so we are going to pay out of pocket to finish insulating our home and to complete the other warranty items. This will cost us over $2000. We do realize that during the building process, issues will arise and for the most part, Miller Construction eventually addressed most of the issues. They were receptive to our input and the staff was friendly and helpful during the building process. We are disappointed with this outcome and wish that Miller Construction IL would realize that the best way to avoid negative reviews is to provide good communication, contractor oversight and workmanship.
