Description of Work: Mid-July we gave Bishop's a $750 deposit for contracted work to be done on our pool cage and front-door porch screening. They were to install all new anchor plates, replace all the door handles, change out all the framing screws to stainless steel, plus install all new quality screening. At contract they said it would be a week or two before they could start. |After some badgering they finally set Aug 31-Sept 1 for our complete install. Their installer didn't arrive until very late afternoon, and with an (untrained) "assistant". The next months were all downhill from there, a complete nightmare. The installer never showed when he said. He left his "assistant" to do most of the work by himself. He substituted poor quality materials for our perfectedly good original parts. They never cleaned up after themselves, leaving our lanai in a state of mid-repair for months, throughout the beautiful fall, with screening hanging half on/off or lying around with his tools, trash etc. Many many calls to Russ the manager were fruitless. He mostly didn't believe us or out-right lied to try to appease us(saying the installer was his "top man", when his crew said he was a recent, untested, hire. Finally when this guy told Russ the job was finished, Bishops sent us a bill for the balance. However he left stuff and materials, telling us he'd be back to finish "on Saturday". We called to find out what happened to him and Russ tells us he finished the job! So finally, to get paid, Russ came out to look at what we were talking about. He then sent one guy to fix all repairs, most of which we had to point out. Well, Russ found one very glaring error but not much more beyond his nose. He sent out one guy who wasn't given nearly enough time nor all equipment he'd need to fix everything! More just kept showing up, especially as we became better educated in finding errors. Yes, he replaced some screws where we pointed out still old rusty ones, but we couldn't get to all of them, nor were they easy for us to recognize. In mid-October, after their third visit with 3 workers, the job finally seemed to be completed pretty well, as far as we could tell. By this time, in mid-October, we sure weren't picky. We just wanted it done, and they were promptly paid the balance. |Later we were telling our neighbor about their terrible service. He said we should be careful, that someone told him that, as a short cut, often these companies won't attach the roof screening, but will simply lay each long section of screening over the frame, attaching it only at the outer edges. We know ours was installed originally correctly,in sections, because we have pictures from past section repairs and also by pictures from roofers who quoted repairs to our roof. Now the last time the crew came to work on finishing this job, the workers and everyone apologized and told us that the worker they hired for our job and for another woman's pool cage, was in jail for stealing parts and equipment from Bishops! So now wouldn't you think Bishops would do all they could to make sure our job was finished properly and completely, so that we weren't "robbed" as well, by their vouched-for employee? Pretty bad for their reputation, plus I believe they claim they're licenced, as well. |But, months later we asked the roofers how it looked. They said the screening was laid over in one piece. So then our son suggested we take an extended pool net to test if the screen edges along the frames seemed taught. They weren't. We also compared this to our neighbors screening whose house and cage were built the same time as ours. There was a big difference, where ours felt loose, theirs was tight. |When we called to talk to Bishops owner, they still put us through to Russ. He told us that all work was guaranteed for a year, but that the contract was to replace our screening as it had originally been installed, which was how they did. Nevertheless they would still come back to attach it propperly, in-sections. Again he took the occasion either to outright lie to us or he was vouching again for his installer who was now in jail? |Bottom line, after much ado, inspections, and weather delays, the job was completed, as well as we can reasonably tell, almost 7 months after our deposit and 3 months after it had been paid for. We hope there are no more problems. |We do NOT recommend Bishops Aluminum for any work ever! Beware, they do not deal in good faith.
