Mike Whelan, owner of Whelan Builders, has over twenty years of experience in this business. Before moving to Chicago he learned fine finishing and attention to detail while involved in the restoration of Victorian-era properties in New England. Mike is the person who will assess your job, provide the quote, sign the contract, and oversee the work every day. Everyone on our projects is a craftsman who provides outstanding work. Our employees are clean cut, well-mannered, and, above all, professional. They are chosen for their knowledge, experience, and ability to work well as part of a team. Whelan Builders also meticulously screens all our subcontractors. We engage competent professionals experienced in the work needed, be it restoration, renovation or whatever else, who offer a competitive price without sacrificing service. Many of them are people we have worked with for years. Whether its restoration work, fine finishing, an expansion to your house, we take pride in offering you a clean job site. You won’t see an ugly dumpster in your driveway or parking lot. Keeping the rest of the project area livable while restoration and other work is done is important to us, so we use a dump truck to haul away any construction debris. At Whelan Builders we offer personal service and painstaking attention to detail that is unsurpassed in today’s quick-service world. You have to use Whelan Builders! We finished the basement from nothing to completely amazing! Ellie, Mike and the team were extremely efficient, full of amazing ideas and on top of everything. We love the finished product and would recommend them without a doubt! On top of their amazing work - they are such kind and honest people who truly love their work and want the best for everyone involved!

I had lived with an outdated bathroom for so long that I had grown complacent. After a few gentle but unsettling comments about how dated my bathroom after an Easter gathering I decided to make a change. Mike had come highly recommended from a friend of a friend and after a visit and a few revisions we decided on a plan and a price. All work was completed on time and on budget! What more can you ask? Mike was attentive and helpful throughout the process, which was much appreciated and uncommon for contractors, at least in my past experiences.
