This review is for a room built in 2013. At the time we were ecstatic and recommended TimberBuilt to everyone. We'd used their previous company (BetterLiving Midwest) at a previous home, and hired them again based on that good experience. Fast forward to 2019. We have a room that, while very attractive, leaks everywhere - not only the windows. The windows are just a small part of the problem. When it rains we have to stay home to sop up the water that pours through seams in the woodwork, onto the sills and floor. Our floor is peeling up and the base molding is damaged. This has happened every year to an increasing degree since the room was built. The first year the company blamed it on clogged gutters, which wasn't true. Since then - when the one year warranty expired - they won't talk to us. We've tried many remedies but no one can pinpoint the problem. The roofer said it's not the roof because it doesn't happen every time it rains, and he found no problem with the roof (which was here before the room was built.) The window/siding company said new windows won't help; the problem is in the construction - tearing off and replacing the siding might help, but without taking the room apart it's not certain. We had all the windows re-caulked but it hasn't made a difference. Because the estimator, staff and work crews were so nice and accommodating to work with, we expected to have a room we could be proud of, a showpiece of our home. Instead we constantly have wet towels draped over furniture and lamps we can't use for fear of electrocution. We paid $60K+ for a room whose structure is now likely contaminated with black mold. A one year warranty on a project of this size is ridiculous, and should be a red flag. Shop carefully and don't go by sales photos only. Talk to as many past customers as you can and grill them about follow-up service. We found out the hard way that once our money was paid we were on our own.

Perfectly. Timberbuilt is the best contractor we have ever worked with. From design through finishing, every step of the process came off as promised. The company does not subcontract in any step of the process, and we were pleased with the professionalism of every trade involved. The estimate for when they were going to be able to start the job was accurate, and once the work started, it continued daily through "move-in-ready" completion. We are very happy with our new screen room.

The work is currently ongoing. So far, though, I'm extremely impressed with the way they're handling it. It's a little pricey, but I'd rather pay more for quality results. They're very positive people, and they're a really interesting company. They're also very professional. I will continue to update this as the work is completed.

Complicated roof line, the room isn't quite done yet but looks great so far. They clean up after themselves, do exactly what they say, call if weather stops them from coming, and do a very high quality work. I feel the reason for their high quality is nothing is sub-contracted. All laborers are their employees. Took great pains not to damage my yard with their heavy equipment. Highly recommend.

Description of Work: Based on their Tribune ad my wife and I drove 30 miles to their showroom. THEIR POSTED HOURS SAID OPEN as did the sign in the window. The door was locked and there was nobody around. So if you trust scheduling to a company that cannot schedule its showroom hours maybe they are OK. Otherwise use somebody who knows what day it is

Response from TimberBuilt Rooms
TimberBuilt Rooms does have winter hours (closed Sundays) which begin in October and run through January. These hours are posted on our website and are reflected on our voicemail as well as on our sign at our building. Print ads are also updated showing the winter hours on all print ads that run during the winter season. It is unfortunate that this customer had an older ad that ran during our summer hours. Please call or check our website with any questions on our hours or schedule an appointment with us.

Mike and his whole family are good people and really have taught all their workers to act professionally. We had many different workers on our job site and all were friendly and professional and kept the work area clean. There were even a few days that they worked after dark when it was really cold out...very impressed! This is a great company who gave us a beautiful room and we cannot wait to use it when it warms up.
Description of Work: We had a 3 season room that was outdated and starting to really show wear. We went to Timberbuilt just to get ideas for a room and once I saw there showroom I was hooked. I thought I want my new sunroom to look this fabulous and be more functional. Mike gave us some ideas and worked with us to get us what we wanted at a price we could afford.

They were wonderful! They were able to start the job quickly and get it done for us to enjoy the whole summer. The pricing was right in line with what they did. The carpentry work that was done was very professional. They are a very professional operation.

Overall, we were very happy with the job. We were not here for the entire time they were doing the work, but every time we were there it was a good experience. They cleaned up after themselves.

Jack, the salesman, was very honest and straight-forward. He was prompt at the initial appointment and rfequently checked in with us during the construction. We had received estimates from a total of 3 companies before deciding to go with Better Living Midwest. They were within close price range of the other estimates. Peggy spent a lot of time with us in their showroom in St. Charles before we made our final decision. All of the workers were polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. When they ran behind schedule due to weather, workers came on a Saturday in order to meet the final deadline. The company organizes everything for you and updates you frequently.

I WORKED DIRECTLY WITH THE OWNER. HE WAS VERY HONEST, TIMELY WITH THE ESTIMATE, AND COMPLETED THE WORK ON TIME. HE ALSO WAS WILLING TO NEGOTIATE ADDITIONAL WORK WITH ME WHEN NEEDED, INSTEAD OF JUST CHARGING ME AUTOMATICALLY. THE WORK IS VERY HIGH QUALITY.

TAKE CARE IF YOU DO FALL FOR THE SALES PITCH OF USING YOUR ROOM FOR A SHOW PLACE. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE CONTRACT AND MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING SPELLED OUT VERY CLEARLY. INCLUDING START AND FINISH DATES. DON'T ALLOW FINAL PAYMENT UNTIL YOUR TOWN INSPECTORS CLEAR THE ROOM AND ALL THE SURROUNDINGS FOR WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. MAKE SURE THE CONTACT STATES 4 SEASON, 3 SEASON, ETC.
Description of Work: POOR SALESMANSHIP & CRAFTSMANSHIP. SOLD A YEAR-ROUND ROOM THAT IS NOT AIR-TIGHT AND LEAKS WATER AND BUGS GET IN THE ROOM. HOUSE SOFFIT AND GUTTERS WERE TORN APART AND NOT RESTORED TO PRE-CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS. AT THE END, THE COMPANY TOOK THE PATIO DOOR AND HELD IT FOR FINAL PAYMENT. THEIR PRICE WAS CHEAPER AND SO IS THE ROOM!
