I MET WITH JENNY FOWLER FOR A CORNICE FOR ONE SMALL WINDOW. I TOLD HER THIS INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE AND SHE SET AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME AND LATER CAME OUT FOR THE APPOINTMENT. I WASN'T TOLD ANYTHING ABOUT A RETAINER BEFORE MEETING FOR WHAT I CLEARLY TOLD HER WAS A SMALL JOB AND WAS TOLD ONLY AFTER LOOKING AT AN ALBUM OF CATALOG CUT OUTS I HAD TO SIGN A CONTRACT AND GIVE HER $500 TO BE USED ONLY TOWARDS HER TIME AND THAT WOULD NOT REFUNDABLE. WHEN I SAID NO I'M NOT INTERESTED SHE GOT ALL HUFFY AND DEMANDED I PAY HER $75 FOR HER TIME SHE SPENT SHOWING ME THE CATALOG CUTOUTS OF CURTAINS, WHICH WAS HER TIME. SO I PAID $75 FOR HER TO TELL ME SHE CAN'T DO A CORNICE WITHOUT MAKING $500 FOR HER TIME PLUS THE COST OF THE CORNICE. I ORDERED FROM SOMEONE ELSE AND THE ENTIRE CORNICE WAS JUST OVER $400 COMPLETE, WITH HER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH HIGHER WITH THE $500 FEE TO HER, THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF UNTIL AFTER THE FACT.

The member contacted me and asked for an appointment. I told her over the phone that I charge a $75 consultation fee. She agreed and I met with her. Not only did I select a drapery design for her window, but also answered all other design questions such as paint colors and flooring. Once the consultation was complete, I asked if she wanted me to continue additional work for her. She said yes. At that time I showed her my contract in which I require a $500 retainer fee which is credited toward my labor. She declined and I left respectfully. In no way did I get “huffy nor demanding”.
