Andy’s Professional Remodeling offers a full home remodeling and renovating service in the Chicago Area. Andy has over 30 years of experience in the industry, eventually founding his independently owned and operated business in 2002, specializing in kitchen & bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, flooring/tiling, painting, in addition to using licensed subcontractors for electrical and plumbing services.
If I could give Andy and his excellent team and A++ on this website I would! Beyond the fact that Andy had far and away the most reasonable estimate of the four contractors we communicated with, he was efficient, flexible, and extremely communicative during the entire process. When plans need to be changed (and they did because of structural issues) or when I asked for a modification I had not thought of before, Andy was always creative and willing to adapt to be sure we were happy with the final product. I enjoyed working with Andy and his team so much, I am hoping to have them back to redo my kitchen!
Description of Work: Basement Bathroom Addition and Area Remodel
Andy and his crew were excellent. They showed up every morning exactly on time, and worked tirelessly throughout the entire project. They finished much faster than I would have thought possible. Andy was very receptive to my (and my wife’s) ideas and gave us exactly what we wanted and more. His crew was very polite and extremely professional while they were in my home. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves each day when the work was finished for the night. As far as price goes. I searched and talked with five different contractors and Andy’s price and what he provided over the others was thousands less than his competitors. This is the guy to go to when you need work done.
Description of Work: My basement was completely unfinished; all cement walls, only 2 outlets, no insulation, etc. I wanted framing, extra outlets, extra lighting, walls around the heating unit/water heater with French doors on either side for access, closet area for storage.
Excellent communication was given and job completion successfully in time.

Job went very well from start to finish. Andy kept us appraised every day on what was going on. He was supervising a job at another site, but came everyday to make sure things were going well.
Description of Work: Andy did a remarkable job with a complete remodel of our bathroom. We have used him previously to install hardwood floors as well as to remodel another bathroom. Andy does an excellent job, so we were willing to wait for when he was available to do our job. He told us the remodel would take a week and that is what it took. Very pleased. Am planning to contact him with a couple more jobs.

It went fine when he initially came out, but he didn't seem to be knowledgeable about cutting out a badly damaged ceiling. He just wanted to patch it rather than cut it out. The deal I purchased was for $250 for $500 towards remodeling and when he sent me the estimate he didn't take off the $500, just the $250. When I emailed him back about the discount he became unresponsive and I haven't heard from him since.

We called Andy for an estimate based on his Angie's List reviews, and could not be happier that we did! Our basement looks better than we ever could have imagined. Andy is professional, reliable, highly skilled, and is extremely detailed-oriented...and on top of everything, is a very nice guy too. His crew is courteous, hard working, and takes a lot of care in cleaning up thoroughly. We believe we got tremendous quality for the price we paid...and there were no surprises in the final cost, we paid exactly what he estimated. I would not hesitate to hire or recommend Andy for any type of home improvement job. I sincerely believe that no one could provide a better quality service.

Very responsive to inquiry and performed job two days later. We were fortunate that he had a break while working on a big job and was able to fit us in so quickly. Andy and his helper were courteous, professional, protected our newly refinished floor and cleaned up thoroughly upon completion. We will definitely use them again when we need any interior work done. Thanks, Andy.
Description of Work: Installed ceramic backsplash in kitchen and replaced some tiles in bath. Note that I do not know if the price was good or not as we did not contact anyone else. We needed the work done ASAP, Andy had excellent reviews and was able to do the work on a quick turn around, so we decided to go with him on that basis.

We've used Andy several times now, and, as always, he provides an excellent balance between quality and cost. Job was done in one day. Clean-up after job was excellent. Deck looks very nice and much improved, an overall very positive experience.
Description of Work: Refinishing of deck neglected for over a decade. Sanding, replacing a small piece of decking, staining.
I contacted Andy for an estimate and he came over and was very knowledgeable. We decided to put 3 lights in my attic. put some wood down on the attic floor, and to install the new attic stairs that I had just purchased. On March 12, Andy came over with 2 other men, (both very nice). They came on time and they stayed for several hours. They cut a hole in the ceiling for the attic stairs. They installed 3 more lights and put a switch right where you come into the attic making it very convenient to turn on. They cut the plywood I bought and screwed it down making it easier and safer to walk on. They put the wood trim that Andy supplied around the stairs opening. I had previously asked Andy if I should move some items in the room or put down some tarps. Andy said that he will take care of everything and he will leave everything clean before he left. All 3 men were hard working, polite and excellent carpenters. The electric work they did was great. They are excellent at many trades. The room was clean and there was nothing for me to do except enjoy my new storage area. I will not hesitate to call Andy back again for my next project. His price was excellent too. I highly recommend this company.

Andy was the first contractor that we called from Angie's List as we looked for someone to finish our basement, and we knew from our first meeting with him that we didn't need to talk to anyone else. Andy is extremely professional, very knowledgeable and extraordinarily trustworthy. Everything that he promised upfront he delivered on. He was on time, on budget and did exactly what he said he would when he said he would. Even when there were challenges posed during the permit process, he went above and beyond expectations working with the village. In addition, he always spent the time necessary to deliver what was promised, even when it meant several late nights. Ultimately, we ended up with a basement we truly love...Andy's translation of our vision into the final product was even better than we had hoped, from initial room design to the final coat of paint. The attention to detail was fantastic and he didn't stop work until everything was to our satisfaction...though I should note that typically our experience was that everything was done to our satisfaction upfront. We will absolutely be contacting Andy in the near future for additional work we have and we look forward to working with him again.

Andy once again provided superior service in the final remodeling of our basement. He is very thorough in understanding what we were seeking. He offered suggestions based on his experience and allowed me to see some of his finished work. He also searched for solutions to keep the cost as low as possible. He and his workers are prompt, efficient, and completely clean up after every visit. He maintains contact throughout the construction to keep me updated and ensure I am happy with the progress. The final walk through is thorough and he follows up quickly with minor changes or touch ups. I will use him on future projects as well as refer him as opportunities arise.
The project went great, and Andy was wonderful to work with. I would highly recommend Andy for a number of reasons as detailed below. The estimate was reasonable and fair. I asked Andy to quote the job with the understanding that I would provide most of the materials. Andy is very polite and soft spoken, and from our original introduction, I had a very good feeling about working with him, and that is important. The estimate was delivered via email within a couple of days. The estimate is not a typical estimate by a building firm where everything is completely detailed, but rather a thoughtful description of the work to be done and the materials Andy will provide. The estimate is more like a letter with generalized bullet points, but it worked for me. I did not contact other remodelers, because this job was a long time coming and I had spoken to other contractors in the past, so I knew that Andy's estimate was more than fair. We agreed to the terms, and the work was to start in 2-3 weeks. I began ordering materials at that time, and everything was delivered and ready when Andy and Carlos arrived on Sept. 16 to begin working. Andy and Carlos are very hard workers. They are neat, to boot. Tarps were laid each day to protect the carpet and wood floors, and they probably made one thousand trips up and down the stairs during the course of the job. Also, another thing I noticed immediately was the quiet close to the front door. I can't get my kids to close the door quietly, but Andy and Carlos did each of the thousand times they went in and out of the house. I appreciated that. They were also helpful and careful. Each night everything was cleaned up. The area was vacuumed, the garage was swept, the tarps were removed, and the garbage was bundled. It was still unavoidably messy around the house, but it wasn't a nightmare! The work itself was excellent and proceeded in a timely manner. Because the majority of the work was done by Andy and Carlos, the progress on a daily basis was steady, but not overwhelming. If you want a large job done in 3 or 4 days, you will need to hire someone with a larger crew. I liked the fact that Andy performed all the difficult work himself, including rewiring electrical, moving plumbing, and measuring/installing the board and batten wall treatment. Andy will consult with you as the job proceeds. This was easy in my case because I was home during the remodel, so there were never any misunderstandings. He is very patient with modest indecision, as well, because he wants you to be happy. He believes it is your house, and what is done should be how you want it. A third man was brought in to install the tile, and this helped move things along. There are a few imperfections in the tile installation, but they are minor and would not be noticed by anyone other than me. Tiling is a very difficult decision because it is so permanent, and I had a very hard time deciding. I made a number of 11th hour changes, and Andy was very understanding, again he wants the homeowner to be happy. I am very pleased that I was able to modify my original intent. I love how the bathroom turned out. The work that was done included 1) complete demolition of the existing bathroom, 2) electrical work including new sconces, upgraded exhaust fan, new outlet boxes, rewiring, can lights, and heated floor, 3) plumbing work including moving all hot and cold pipes behind the walls for a new vanity placement, shower valve relocation, and new valve and floor drain for a freestanding bathtub, 4) tile work including tiling the shower with a mosaic from floor to ceiling, and 12x24 tiles on the floor, 5) carpentry work including installing a board and batten trim around all the walls (this was an 11th hour change not included in the original estimate) and drywall repair, and 6) painting and finishing work including painting all the walls and the trim and installing all the lights, plumbing fixtures, fan, accessories and towel warmer. In the end, my bathroom looks fantastic. it looks nicer than most of the other rooms in my house now! Andy and his crew were wonderful to work with. They arrived on time every day, and worked each and every day until the job was completed. Because there were some changes to the work as things progressed, the final tally for the work was about $1,000 more than the original estimate, but I expected that. I will gladly have Andy back to do work in the future. It was a very good decision to hire him.
Description of Work: Remodel of master bathroom. Complete remodel of master bath in a 23 year old house. The original bath was standard builder issue with 4x4 white tiles on floor and in shower, carpet on the floor in the sink/tub area, a large mirror above the vanity, and absolutely nothing special. That is different now!

I was vey please with the job from start to finish. The job was roughly 300 square feet. The estimate came in at 2,700 for all three rooms. The job included the removal of the old linoleum and the install of the new porcelain tile. First and foremost the estimate was very competitive. Another tile guy on Angie's list quoted me 2400 for just the kitchen and was going to charge me extra for the demo of the old floor. Andy's team arrived on time the day we started and worked hard for 4 days. Andy kept me informed of all unexpected challenges and engaged me when decisions had to be made. The work was done on time and the results were incredible. What I appreciate the most was that Andy wanted to do the job right. Many contractors tried to tell me to lay the new floor over the old. I did not want to do that. I wanted my new floor to be flush up against the existing hardwood. Andy never even suggested taking the easy way. He ripped up the old got the floors flush and the transition is perfect. All garbage was removed and they even cleaned up. I have already talked to Andy about the next job I need him for. Andy did not charge me for the unexpected challenges. He could have. I included that in his tip.

The home in question had deep, dark colors previously painted so there were multiple coats necessary to paint over. Andy and his crew was wonderful -- they got the work done very quickly, within the budget. He worked to make the job as affordable as possible but when I had to add on the painting of the doors and casings to the original estimate, he made the time in his schedule for his crew to add this work on and it was as affordable as his initial estimate. Walls looked BEAUTIFUL when done, the great job made the home look brand new!!! Andy is a pleasure to work with as are his employees Walter and Carlos!

Working with Andy and his crew was a pleasure from beginning to end of a long, complex job. Plus, I already have a ton of other, smaller projects to do around the house I wouldn't dream of asking anyone else to do. You will not be disappointed by Andy. I'm so grateful that Angie's list connected us. Just having found Andy was, alone, worth the price of the membership to Angie's list.
Description of Work: Andy and his crew were THE BEST!!!!! In addition to having excellent input to our requests, being totally responsive to our changes-of-mind, being an optimistic problem-solver and just a total straight shooter, he's just a very professional, easy-to-work with person. His crew is polite, cheery, totally careful in your home, and the workmanship and attention to detail is --in my experience -- second to none.

His work is beautiful. I hope to either remodel my kitchen or basement soon and I will definitely hire Andy again. He's the BEST!
Description of Work: Andy replaced both a front door that had LOTS of water damage and rotting wood. He also replaced a large 2nd story decorative window. The window was very large and it took lots of time for him to research and find the right size window but Andy kept on it and found one.
It went very well. Andy and his workers came in to do the demo in one day. Then they came back and installed the ceramic tiles, trim and sink/toilet. They did a great job. Very happy.

The job was to install snap and lock laminate flooring. I obtained 4 quotes for this job. Others responded job would take no more than 2 days to complete Andy did not quote a time frame. Andy picked up the flooring on a Thursday and advised he was hoping to be able to install the next week pending the holiday weekend and completion of a current job. I advised I had taken the week off work there was no indication it would not be completed that week. Andy?s crew started Thursday afternoon I left them with a printed copy of the install instructions for the flooring. They all worked in the same room so only the one bedroom and half the loft was completed. On Friday morning Andy and one other person came in the morning and only worked on the carpet nose transition piece on the stairs. At noon I noticed Andy had left and his partner came in. The crew began working on finishing the second floor and the living/dining downstairs. Later Friday afternoon Andy returned and advised that he would not be working on Saturday because he felt he would have to unhook the stove and would not finish that section and didn?t want to work until 6 on Saturday. They could have completed the half bath or front hallway on Saturday but didn't. The quarter round was only partially finished and I noticed some of the boards went all the way to the wall leaving no room for expansion due to the house being on a concrete slab . Over the weekend I cleaned up the sawdust mess and recovered the items in the garage with plastic. On Monday morning I questioned the flooring installed flush with the wall Andy advised it was fine and there would be no issues. Since we had miscommunication issues I left him with a typed list of issues including cleanup of the garage. They worked up until they finished just after 6:00. After they left I noticed they had installed flooring over two floor heating vents in the entrance and half bath. I called Andy and they all came back and had to tear up the flooring in the area to find the vents and remove the pedestal sink and recut the flooring. I noticed later they had not connected the quarter round along one of the cabinets. I also noticed one of the transitions from the hall to living room wasn?t flush with the floor. Andy advised he thought there would be an issue and would need to reorder the part because the one installed was broken. I had purchased extra but by that time had returned what was not used. The carpet nose transition was connected to the end of the carpet instead of folded under so the end unravels. Andy advised it was because I told him I was planning to replace the stair carpeting soon. Some of the white quarter round pieces were not attached flush with the floor/walls in some areas. Between the door frames on two bathrooms there is a quarter inch open gap between the floor and door frame that was left open. The garage was covered with sawdust including what was covered with plastic I had to remove everything inside and vacuum the entire garage. I can only speculate the garage door was fully open and the wind was blowing into the garage when they were cutting so the sawdust spread all over the garage. We have to bag all garbage that is not recycled they had filled the garbage bin with boards they cut but didn?t use and dumped sawdust on top. I had to pull all the wood out and bag it for garbage pickup and clean the sawdust out of the garbage bin. Overall the job was done but not with attention to detail and cleanup mentioned in other reviews.
