MAC Flooring did a good job and got the majority of the backsplash project completed in 2 days. They just needed to seal the tile and put some finishing caulking along edges. Mario asked that I pay his guys that day since most of the work was completed. Since we had a long lasting relationship (over 2 years) and he gave me his word that he would return before the following weekend, I did not see a problem with it. I followed up with Mario the next week, when his attitude began to shift. He lied to me over the phone and told me that the door must have broken/failed on its own and that his work is only guaranteed for 1 yr. When I explained to him his guy told me it was his mistake and that he cut the door from the wrong end, he went silent. He asked me “Well, if I come fix your door, how am I supposed to get paid?” He reluctantly said he would fix his mistake and I was to call him toward the end of the week. After our call, he responded with a text message and said “I am not paying for any door” indicating that he would not pay to replace the door that he knowingly installed incorrectly. That is the last I heard from Mario. I have left several professional voice messages and text messages with no response. I am writing this post, so that you do not make the same mistake we did. I broke the number one rule. Never pay a contractor in full before your project is complete. MAC Flooring has a good team but the owner himself, Mario Cordova cannot be trusted. He will lie to your face and tell you anything to get what he wants. He will likely even lie to you about this situation. Also, always make sure you have a written contract for each project. Because if you do not, the same thing that happened to me can happen to you. We have spent well over $25,000 in total with MAC Flooring and they will not fix a simple pocket door they knowingly installed incorrectly NOR will they complete our kitchen backsplash project that has been paid for in full. Not only will MAC Flooring not complete the project, they do not even have the decency to return our phone calls. Do not hire these guys, you will regret it.
Description of Work: We hired MAC Flooring from Round Lake Beach, IL, 847-815-6145, MACFlooring@att.net, for multiple jobs in the gut rehab project of our duplex home. We acted as the general contractors on the project and worked directly with Mario Cordova and his team. We hired them to install and stain our floors, measure and hang our doors, and install our kitchen cabinetry. We also had them take care of some carpentry projects including installing our stairs. They did a good job and had very good, responsive communication until now. We hired them to install most recently (June-July 2017) our kitchen backsplash. At the time they began our backsplash, they also agreed to fix a pocket door of ours that had broken on its own. They installed it and it had been approximately 1.5 yr since it was installed. When the MAC Flooring worker took a look at the upstairs bathroom pocket door, he accidentally revealed that the door was cut down at the wrong end (at the top) by Mario. Because it was cut at the top, the screws and hardware for the door failed and the door came off the track. They agreed to come back and see if they could fix the door otherwise they would have to order a new one and reinstall.
