We had an emergency shower repair. We reached out to Marcus and we couldn't be happier. The tile and shower pan incorrectly installed by prior contractor. Rudis Construction's work is craftsmanship quality. They worked quietly and quickly. Very respectful of our home. Consulted us often as project progressed. We can't say enough good things about Marcus. Hire these guys and you will not be disappointed. We are starting second project with him next week.

his is my journey with Markus of Rudis Tile. I found this company when we were looking for someone to do a kitchen remodel. Markus seemed knowledgeable, charming and competent. I liked his sassy responses to online critics. When we first met, I told Markus our budget. We went with him to pick out cabinets and granite and paid for everything. We had already purchased all new appliances and they were on hold at Abt. It was Covid and materials were very expensive, so Markus suggested we wait until prices came down. We agreed. Last February, we again told Markus our budget and he said he could start in 2 weeks. Due to Covid, no thrift store would pick up donations of a dining room table, buffet, hutch, six chairs and a huge glass china cabinet, so we paid $1K+ to have a junk company take our furniture. Next time Markus showed up, he said the project would cost even more than we had budgeted, and he earlier agreed upon/ Finally, the cabinet company needed to get our stored cabinets out of their warehouse last month. They deliver to the front of our condo building, so we hired a moving company to bring them up to the third floor. While talking with the driver from the cabinet company, he showed me the invoice. I was confused because we paid for the cabinets through Rudis Tile and the cost was $15, 126. The invoice the driver showed me was for $8, 526. How could that be? I asked Markus to stop by implying I had work for him, and I showed him the copy of the cancelled check and a copy of the invoice. His face went bright red, he said he "didn't know what that paper(invoice) was" and I was "never supposed to see that" and he fulfilled "the contract" because I "had my cabinets." Markus said he was going to talk to the manager of the cabinet company and find out what the invoice was and a lot of other nonsense. He left my home that day and I have not heard from him. I emailed him the other day and asked what happened with the manager of the cabinet company, but naturally, Markus did not respond. So, Markus overcharged us $6,600 for cabinets. I understand a contractor might markup materials, but 100%? Do not deal with Markus or Rudis Tile. He inherited this company from his father, and he has two other full-time jobs. Markus is, in my experience, a thief without a conscience. He knew my husband and I lived on disability and a pension, yet he chose to steal from us. I am sure Markus will have a sassy reply to this review, but just remember; he lies as easily as he breathes, and he is a thief. I know this because he robbed us of $6,600 and he lied about doing so. He jerked us around for 2 years, but we have finally found a great company to do our remodel. For a much lower price than Markus quoted. According to Markus, he "fulfilled his contract" because we have our cabinets. This person does not understand this is an ethical issue, not a contractual issue. Markus may stick to the contract, but he has no ethics as a business person.

Markus's attention to detail and top quality craftsmanship cannot be overstated. We have another project on the horizon and will seriously consider Rudi's Tile and Design Construction, Inc. for the job. Markus and his team will do whatever it takes to make a deadline. This includes working on the weekend or late into the night if necessary. In addition he is very pleasant to work with. He goes above and beyond to the point of helping us clean the snow off of our car. We have a very high quality underpayment and a lot of care went into making sure the tiles were all laid completely flat and level as can be seen in the included photos.

I couldn’t have asked for a better job! Markus did a fantastic job and it wasn’t a easy one either. The original tile was old and about half of thickness of what is available now. He managed to make the new tile look like it had always been there. From now on whatever I need done around the house Rudi’s Tile and Design will get the job! The plumber wanted to finish the job so the picture below only shows Markus’s work.
Description of Work: After the plumber put in a new faucet I needed a section of wall and tile replaced.

Markus was very thorough with the initial proposal. I hate to be nickle and dimed later. He made sure we understood all of the potential additional costs upfront before signing. He also brought an AIA agreement, which, as a commercial interior designer, made me much more confidant. We were also working with an Amish cabinet maker and pushing towards an set install date. They did a great job keeping us on schedule, even though the tile manufacturer was delayed in delivering the tile by 2 weeks. In the end we were able to push the cabinets out a week, but it was a choice, not a requirement. His guys did an excellent job handling our large format tiles and trimming around our water heater, etc. They also made thoughtful suggestions on how to modify my tile pattern in order to minimize cuts and leave us with enough tile to eventually do the bathroom around the hall as well. We will work with Markus again.

Markus came out and measured the job and inspected the tile I chose. He recommended using another distributor that sells better quality tile then I chose. I got new samples and he ordered the tile. He came back to demo the old tile and the next day he installed the new tile. we were able to walk on it that night, he used fast drying products. the job looks great, very happy with the work done.

Markus did a fantastic job for us. He was more of a perfectionist than my husband, which is saying a lot. Our job was a challenge. We wanted porcelain tile on our covered front porch. The porch itself was not an average front porch. It's very wide with uneven concrete and there are 3 different depths. This job required a lot of cutting and leveling. Only a detailed professional could come up with the RIGHT way to do this. I think if it had been by anyone else, they would have laid it down as is, saying there was no other way to do it. But Markus took the time to show us and explain to us everything. He also used his experience to suggest a different pattern rather than the standard side by side one we were planning on having. It's beautiful (sort of a herringbone). The tile that we chose looks like natural bluestone and therefore has a faint hint of contrast on some of them so he looked at every one and made sure to stagger the more solid-colored ones with the varied-colored ones. It looks just like bluestone. Everyone that has seen it has been shocked when we told them it was porcelain. They've all commented on how beautiful it looks. He cleaned up at the end of every day. The job took longer than expected due to the terrible weather we've been having. So all I can say is our experience with Markus was wonderful. The finished project looks even better than what we expected.

I recently had a huge remodeling project completed in my Condominium. The job included complete kitchen re do as well as the master bath. The bath included a custom built shower & laundry area. In addition numerous cosmetic changes were made including mirrored closet doors, ceiling fans, & custom painting. Markus and his workers were clean, efficient & professional. The end result is phenomenal in every aspect. I am very pleased & recommend this contractor to everyone. Let me also add the price & payment method were right!

Very well. They submitted a bid and kept to it. They used the best product and there is no sign that it will need to redone in the near future. They were professional, covered surrounding areas to keep clean and very respectful. The price was fair. As a result I’ve asked them back to do other small jobs and would recommend them for any handyman job.

First of all: the owner is fabulous! I have used him on several projects in the house. He had me as a loyal customer from the first project. He has amazing ideas when it comes to design and will do what you want, as well as give personal advise of what would look good. He has that personality that you just click with--and seems like you've known him for years! I used him for several projects from bathroom gut job (where I was going one way, and I would never have chosen the tiles/cabinets on my own, but with his suggestion--I love it!! And have received numerous compliments from friends and family). He did both of the bathrooms, the installation of can-lights throughout, new interior doors, putting this epoxy floor in my garage ( it looks cleaner, and now I wanted a wall removed from the kitchen into the dining room--to create more of an open feeling. Every job is perfect, and every call to Markus is enjoyable!
Description of Work: The most recent project-- I wanted to take down a wall, to make it more open, as well as painting the two rooms.

Marcus and his assistant, Jan, seem to be nice people, and seem very knowledgable. The problem that I experienced is the trust factor. I got Rudi's contact info off the Ardex website. Pete Simon from Altered Surface.Com made a site visit to my home and was earnest with the fact that his focus of business is not geared to first repair and renovate an aged, basement floor that my homeowner like my wife and I want to have done and then have a stained concrete surface put upon it. Pete highly recommended that I search the Ardex website to find a certified contractor that serves our area. Rudi's was the closest one. When I called Marcus on 8/30, he was going on a week's vacation within an hour so he said that after the vacation he could talk about the project, but asked if I could text him some pictures and then he would call me on the Monday and Tuesday of the following week which was a reasonable request. Unfortunately, I never heard back on those days so I called him by that Thursday to see if had the chance to review the pictures and could he come out to inspect the site and then give me a bid. I wasn't upset with him. I make mistakes and have lost a phone number or missed a box on the To-Do list. "Yes, Yes, I was just looking at those pictures..." I explained to Marcus that I do have a deadline to finish this project imposed by my insurance company to do the repairs. We then agreed to set an appointment for the next day when I met Marcus and Jan. They are pleasant people, but Marcus from the start seemed to have his own agenda. He was not consultative. He seemed like he just drank a Rockstar energy drink, and was interested in just seeing the basement quickly, taking measurements and getting out of there. "No problem, No problem...We will get you a proposal tomorrow" I offered that they could take the weekend and just me know by Monday evening since he mentioned that he was being flown out the next day by a customer to do work in California. By the following Thursday, I didn't hear back and sent him a text with my email address asking for a bid to be emailed to me. I then called Ardex to find out if there were other contractors not mentioned on the website that would come to my area because I don't need Hollywood references, I need a quote and I need someone who can follow through on their own self-imposed deadlines. 36 hours later Marcus sent me an email and called me after 9pm on a Friday night. By then I reached out to Pete Simon of Altered Surface for any referrals for which he recommended calling the local Ardex rep, Marc, who kindly emailed me some referrals. Marcus's proposal said to let him know if I get a better price and he will match it. What that tells me, is that he was throwing out a price to me with no consideration and no thought and I assume that he wanted some other contractor to do a thorough analysis and provide a competitive bid to be used to set the price for our project. Marcus said that his dad in Germany was trained on Ardex and that he learned from one of the best which I'm sure is truthful. However, I am more impressed with people caring about my business with thoughtful call backs or to realize that people appreciate honesty, if you are swamped or if there is a personal dilemma and you need a few days, I understand, let me know, and if I can, I will accommodate. However, when I have to continually do the follow-up to keep the sales cycle moving, I have big concerns since I would fear that if this person can't manage the sale process how are they going to manage my project and will they ever get it done. To use an old baseball movie line, "Coffee is for closers..." Well, this job wasn't closed because of too much "Red Bull" from the start. It's time to drink the de-caf, slow down, get organized, and sell yourself by your courtesy and considerate attention paid to customers. I think Julie Thompson from Designing Concrete is a "professor" who earned my business and could share a lot of ideas on professionalism. I'm sure this small project is not a big one to lose, but a maybe a lesson will be learned to change some ways on how Rudi's Tile conducts business.
Description of Work: Marcus, who I assume is the principal owner, provided me with a site visit for an inspection and then provided a bid for proposed work which was to repair cracks and create a basement subfloor that had a moisture barrier, and then apply a stained concrete floor with a glossy urethane sealant.

Response from Rudis Tile & Design
First off, We would like to thank [removed member name] for the compliment about who we are as people. We do pride ourselves in running a company that keeps our customers' needs in mind at the top of our list, it's our personal touch with our customers that set us apart from the rest. Secondly, We would like to offer our sincerest apologies to [removed member name] family for the unfortunate turnout of their's and Rudi's Tile and Design's Business relationship. Therefore we are issuing this response to clarify to everyone and more importantly, to the [removed member name] exactly what happened from our end. In the beginning, we received a call [removed member name] about his basement poor project. It is to our knowledge that [removed member name] was informed first hand of the impending vacation coming up. It had been set since the beginning of the summer and there was no other room in the schedule to accommodate rescheduling. [removed member name] offered to send pictures of the site for ease seeing as we didn't have it in the schedule to come out to him and see the job for ourselves. However, we did stretch and made an appointment later on to see the job for ourselves. The representatives of the company arrived in a timely manner. To the company's knowledge, Markus explained what the situation was to the best of his abilities and his Assistant was there to help Markus relay information properly.Time was taken at the [removed member name] residence to explain the next process of the job and what to expect. What we will apologize for also is the miscommunication and/or lack thereof after the estimate visit. A week or so after the free in-home job estimate, on Sep. 19, 2013, we were contacted by [removed member name] regarding the job bid as he stated also in his review. This inquiry from [removed member name] was immediately responded in a swift and professional manner. It was brought to [removed member name] attention that the company was trying to come up with a better alternative for the job as the concrete machines could not fit through the basement stairs. This caused the delay in sending the bid. On Sep. 20, 2013, a day after the inquiry, an email with the bid attached was sent to [removed member name] email. There was NO response heard from the [removed member name] after that. A few days later, a phone call was made to the [removed member name] from Rudi’s Tile and Design to follow up on the status of the [removed member name] decision. Again, there was no response, until of course this review. We at Rudi’s Tile and Design stand by our work and we sincerely understand where the [removed member name] family may have come from when writing their review. We offer our apologies and dismay at the outcome of the business relationship between the [removed member name] family and Rudi’s Tile and Design. However, we issue this immediate official response to our past, present, and future customers. As it is highly inaccurate to write a slanderous review indicating an incompetence and unprofessionalism in Rudi’s Tile and Design without divulging all essential information regarding what truly occurred. Assumptions made such as referring to someone as having had on too many energy drinks are of prejudice and mere speculation. Rudi’s Tile and Design requests that this review be put under review by Angie’s list. Further legal action will be taken if necessary.
