Description of Work: Installed wet bar (sink, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry and granite countertops). We had about 8 quotes from several independent contractors as well as all-inclusive businesses such as HSD and nothing compared to them. Troy understood our vision and created a new design within a few hours of the initial measurements. We found a couple issues along the way such as the wine glass holder not being big enough for any of our wine glasses and for an additional cost they redid the design of the glass holder to work correctly. The cabinetry is beautiful and fits perfectly in the space. We didn't have much interaction with the workers since we were at work but they were clean with no issues.

Very pleased with all aspects of work. They did an excellent job on all aspects. All workmen arrived promptly, kept me informed and were very professional and helpful. They worked late several days - the job took 2 weeks to complete - and never took a lunch. The supervisor visited each day, sometimes twice a day, to make sure I was happy, everything was on-track, and to inspect what had been done. He noted a problem with the ceramic tile when it was installed that I had not noticed and made sure it was corrected the next day. Before installing the grab bars they had me indicate where I wanted them placed and helped me get into the tub so I could show them where I needed the bars. The paint job in both the bathroom and front room were excellent. Although they only had to paint the wall where the hole was repaired per the contract, they offered, and painted, all four walls for me. The woodwork and adjoining surfaces were taped professionally. There are no paint drips on anything. I really appreciated that they cleaned up each night before leaving since I'm in a wheelchair and could not do much clean-up myself. They ensured that everything was out of my so I could get to the toilet without difficulty (this is the only bathroom I can access) each evening and any time I needed to use the bathroom during the day. When the job was complete, they even cleaned up the old ceramic tile floor and made sure the adhesive from the tape used and all other debris were cleaned off. They even returned the boxes I had used for my medicine chest and vanity and quot;stuffand quot; to the bathroom for me before they left. None of the workmen were bothered by my dog and even gave her a few moments of attention each day. One day my dog caretaker was not available to let her out, so the workers let her out for me twice. My new bathroom is beautiful. It was completed two weeks ago and I have not had any problems. I would highly recommend Home Services Direct and plan on using them in the future when I need work done.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodeling. Replaced tub with a walk-in tub. This required putting hole in wall shared by living room and bathroom, and then repairing and repainting wall. New fan, vanity, medicine chest, and lights were also installed, along with ceramic tile around tub. The plumbing had to moved to the opposite wall for the tub. New light also installed over the tub. They had to unexpectedly put in duct to the outside for bathroom fan, which had vented to nowhere previously. This required them to cut a small hole in my living room ceiling in order to get the vent to the outside (I have a second floor). Installed 2 new grab bars and re-installed a cabinet and towel bars that I had up prior to the remodeling.

Estimator called he was late. in short he asked if this was a 203K loan that I would be using to purchase the building.. I said no I was using private funds from local bank. He then said in that case he would have to charge $150 for the estimate. So i didn't have them continue with the estimate. Upset because this information should of been discussed on the initial call not on the hour of our appointment. Disappointing service and waste of my time...
Description of Work: The company set up an appointment about week ago for Sept 3 at 11 am for estimating rehab on a 3 flat.

Although the appointment was set up a week prior, I had called the customer to let them know I was going to be a little late due to a previous appointment running longer than expected. After speaking to (removed member name), I was informed that although he wanted the property to be brought up to FHA standards, there was no description of the work to be completed and there would be no one at the home because he was out of state and could not meet with me at the property to go over any of the items. I did explain to (removed member name) that we do charge a fee for our estimating services if there is no contract or offer on the property. I also explained that this fee would be applied to the project costs should he go with our services. It was at this time that the customer said that he was not willing to pay for the estimate and canceled the appointment. Sam Palazzolo, Lead Estimator

These claims are completely unsubstantiated. This is contractor beware, not customer beware! We have a complete history of every event and transaction that occurred with this customer that substantiates exactly the opposite of what is claimed here, including remarks from the customer stating just the opposite. After continued attempts to appease this customer at the very end of the project, we actually LOST $3000 on her job! By the way, we have explained the circumstances in an earlier post that got kicked out by the editors at Angie's List. Why? I have no idea because it just stated all the facts.

After finally having everything settle down I am finally able to write the full review of the remodel project on my new purchase home that was completed in August. Initially we were very pleased with HSD as they came out to do their walk through/bid of our project. Bill and Sam seemed to have good insight and understood how the whole process worked with the 203k loan. After not having received their bid in time we probably should have moved on to another bidder, but since we liked their insight so much we extended our deadline to allow them the chance to get our business. The quote came back more than fair and the job was theirs. And the minute that happened we were met with delay and confusion. We met their and quot;designerand quot; to pick out the necessary elements of the remodel and after having the initial conversation with Jennifer, we never saw her again. She never came back out to visit the job, ensure the right pieces were ordered and delivered on time, or anything else. The only useful thing she did was find the cabinets that were almost exact to what we were looking for. Everything else she completely dropped the ball on. It took us double and triple checking the right pieces were ordered, delivered and installed. The whole start of the process with updates on permits and lack of communication really put the project off on the wrong note. Sam who was named our project manager clearly had too much on his plate and completely sold off this project to the demolition team that suddenly became in charge of just way too much work. Elton Lamacki and his crew did a great job at basic demolition and framing of the new rough outs but that's where their work should have stopped. The minute they started finishing areas I had to come back to correct everything constantly. Elton was posting ads on craigslist for people to come out and finish work that he was contracted to do. He even ended up picking up someone in our neighborhood to do most of the painting in the house, of which on a random weekend when we stopped by, the painter and his friend were inside painting and drinking on the job. There was zero to extremely little communication between anyone at HSD and the crew working at the house. The only conversations took place when there was a HUD inspector on their way out to make sure they could get paid for the araes they claimed to be done with. Finally I took to being their everyday and it was the only way anything progressed was with myself present directing everyone where to go. About halfway through the project I think HSD realized that Sam was way over his head and they hired on a new project manager. The new project manager TIM O'DONNELL is the ONLY reason why HSD is receiving a 'C' from me. After it was clear that Elton and his crew were not able to complete the project properly, Tim kicked them off the job and started bringing in his guys (all new to HSD) to start correcting the problems. Tim oversaw everything and the job ran much smoother than it ever had. Unfortunately Elton and his crew had messed up so much Tim just didn't have time to go back and correct everything and I decided it was time to just chalk it up to a bad experience so we could move into our home. Tim was able to salvage most of the errors and make the work acceptable and overall what we were looking for. While Tim saved the job and I would highly recommend him or anyone from his crew (Nelson, in particular) I do not think I could recommend HSD to anyone. The lack of communication, the lack of professionalism, and general pass it off to the next guy attitude definitely prevents that. That being said if you can ensure Tim (who should be running his own business) gets your project and coordinates everything, you will be in good hands. However if you don't have him running things get as far away from this company as you can.
Description of Work: We bought a house on 203K full process loan. We contracted Home Services Direct (HSD) to completely gut and remodel the kitchen, rework an open den into a closed off bedroom, downsize a full bath into a powder room, add a shower to a half bath downstairs, and remodel the upstairs three bedrooms into two bedrooms and a sitting area.

Many of the points are absolutely correct. We certainly had a few issues with this job and have since corrected each and every one of these. More than anything, Tim regretted not pulling Elton from the job sooner, but I think the customer agrees that Elton was a good guy who started off doing a great job. Elton was a new subcontractor for us that met our qualifications and was thoroughly checked out. He ran into employee issues which became our issues. He has not worked with us since and will not again. To address the "Tim's guys" issue, Tim brought in employees of HSD to finish up this job as soon as he recognized there were issues. All are long time employees of HSD. Tim is a welcomed addition to the HSD family as is our new Designer, Ms.Garner, replacement for Jennifer referenced in the feedback. As a side note, we originally didn't bid on this job and that may have had some reflection on this, but the long and short of it is, HSD stands behind it's work and always strives to make every situation right. In construction, as many other things in life, everything doesn't always go as planned and sometimes people fall short of their mark. The difference between a good contractor and a great one is how they step up to do whatever it takes to correct the situation. In this case, we let several people go and hired a top notch guy to come in and personally supervise the job and pulled the best we had over to quickly complete the job. I'm sorry we had these issues, but I think we handled them well and completed the job in a superior fashion. We have done over 1000 repair and remodeling jobs over the last several years and do more 203k jobs than all but a few contractors in the Chicago area, usually 6-8/month. Most of these jobs go extremely well but there's always a chance that something will go wrong. When that is the case, we do everything we can to please the customer and make it right. It's unfortunate that we didn't meet Matt's expectations but rest assured you can trust HSD to be a great contractor of choice. Bill Westmoreland

This is a great company to work with. I purchased a foreclosure and utilized the 203(k) loan from FHA. Not having a contractor to do the work, I checked Angie's list and liked what I read so gave them a try. I was not disappointed. My lender (Wintrust Mortgage) has worked with them in the past and that was a major plus. Everything went smoothly. I wish I had been able to afford to completely redo the bathrooms and am saving my money to have them done in the near future. The house was always left in clean condition when the work days ended and all trash removed timely. Jack Bolek who did most of the work is awesome - I don't think there is anything he can't do. I mostly worked with Sam Palazzola who has the patience of a saint. To me, besides the beautiful work, is that everything was done timely. They're great!

This was just an estimate and the job is not complete yet.
Description of Work: We were very impressed with the contractor that came out to our new home. Bill was very professional, knowledgeable, and direct. He shared ideas and suggestions that we may not have thought of on our own, but made more sense and was a better fit for our family. We did not feel as though we were being taken advantage of in any way. Bill also advised us on items that could be saved and in the long run would save us money. We have not had any work done as of yet, but have signed a contract to have the work completed once we close on our home.

MM is a breeze to work with. They are prompt in answering the phone, responding to emails, and working with my lender. I am pleased that I chose them to undertake this huge project.
Description of Work: I have a signed contract with Moveout Makeovers (MM) for a complete gut rehab of the property that I am going to purchase. The total amount of the work needed is in the neighborhood of $110K. The work has not started yet because I have not closed on the property yet because the REO seller is dragging its feet. I wanted to wait until the work had started to write this review, but Angie's List keeps requesting a review and I want to let people know that MM is top notch. I have never hired a contractor before as I am a first time buyer. Bill, MM's owner, is a straight shooter and has the right personality for a general contractor. He is extremely thorough, organized, and honest. MM is an expert in 203k loans, which was the reason that I selected them. I met with four general contractors and about a dozen various subcontractors before signing the contract with MM. The amount of work that I want done is huge and because the property is located in the City of Chicago, the permit and inspection requirements are exacting. MM is the contractor that came in with the most professionalism and gave me the best feeling. I would recommend this company to anyone and am anxious to begin the rehab and remodel of my new home.

we were being given the run around by our contractor when we decided enough was enough, we had to find someone else, quickly! we needed a contractor that was familiar with fha 203 k rehab loans, but most companies i talked to seemed very intimidated by the process. from my first call to moveout makeovers, jenni put me at ease! she explained the process and quickly assembled all the necessary documentation. she returned emails same day, sometimes same hour! she answered all my questions. she submitted bids and other documents to our lender and was has been so helpful and supportive! their bids are very competitive and they really know there stuff!! home buying has been tricky and at times overwhelming, but i feel more confident knowing that moveout makeovers is there to help us out!!!!!
