Initially, I thought the job was done well. One of the posts sticks out 3-4 inches from my porch into the driveway, which will likely one day cause damage to a vehicle pulling into my driveway. I paid an additional $700 for him to remove the posts to install new posts and cover them with a plastic material so I don't have to paint them. Now I have discovered that he didn't do the work properly as we had contracted.
Description of Work: Front porch columns and railings were removed and new columns were supposed to be put in and covered with a plastic material.

2 carpenters from Westwood Construction came to my home and inspected what I wanted done. I was given the cell phone number of the carpenter who resided in Lakemoor ( I think it was Wauconda or Lakemoor). I had recently had my daughter, 2 babies and son in law move in with me to help them out . I had to cancel at least twice in November due to sick kids and adults and then again right before Christmas as I lost my job. I was in regular contact with the carpenter that was going to do the work. I called him and told him not to come out as I had to change my hours at the hospital to stay employed and was working everyday that I could. He did sould like I woke him up and he showed up the next day. I received a call from the office that he had come out and noone was home. I explained to the office that I had indeed called him but he came out anyway. I was transitioning to a new job and could not schedule Westwood to come out for a few more months. They stopped replying, I have called and I have send messages every few months to rescedule or to please give me my $200 back. I am in need of more that just $200 worht of work in my kitchen and have relayed this to them. I have not gotten any response by phone or my AL message. I am 60yrs old , single woman working full time and then some, I watch my grandchildren on my days off. I am sorry for the inconvenience to Westwood, but I don't think that I should have to forfeit $200 to them.

I used Jeremy and his team for a previous job and gave them an A. This experience was a disaster. While Jeremy was here for the previous job, I asked him to give me a quote on stripping and restraining my deck. He measured went through everything with me, I pointed everything out that needed staining including the 4 posts, the front boards, the steps and all the stained surfaces. When I called to follow-up I was told it was going to be $250-$300. I said great. He told me he did not have time to personally do this so he was going to send someone else to come out. He asked if I was ok with that and I said as long as he trusted them, I was fine. He said he would send me contact info to arrange time, but since he gave me the quote, he would fill in Matt. Made arrangements with Matt who showed up with another person. It did not go well from the start when Matt told me Jeremy did not share any details. I walked him through everything and he said legs and side boards were not included. I told him they were and he said he said ok. There were several things that were mis-communicated through this process and it is my fault for not getting something in writing as I trusted Jeremy since he had done a lit of work for other friends. My fault. To cut to the end of the story, the job that was done was terrible, I am submitting pictures that are self explanatory, but here are the highlights: deck looks shredded (by power washer), was told 2 coats went on when only one coat was applied in areas (it is obvious), completely missed areas with no stain, sloppy work (my siding has stain on it and my mailbox is covered in stain), and the list goes on. From what I could tell when they finished the deck looked fine, but it was wet and I could not see it. They worked h****** replacing a board, so I gave them a tip. I ended up paying them $440 as the board they replaced took so much extra time and proved to be more difficult. When I shared photos and tried to follow-up, I was challenged and told that I said it was fine when it was done. Matt had not seen the photos, so I asked him to review them before fighting me on the poor quality of work. He also said had the 4 legs been included, the job would have been $1,000 (the legs are about 5 feet tall, really?). He said he would text me the next day. Never did, so I followed up with Jeremy who then told me this was not his job (he said it was a side job for Matt and he was not involved) and I needed to follow-up with Matt. When I asked why he was washing his hands of the job, he told me Matt does not work for him (Matt is his brother who worked on several of my friend's jobs under Jeremy's supervision). Hmmm! Then moments later he said Matt would call me. Matt did not call, but texted and said he would fix things. On Tuesday of this week I asked Matt what his plan was for fixing things. I do not want him to come and just paint over as this needs to be redone. No answer and it is Friday. At this point, I want a refund as I am going to have professionals come in and fix the poor job. Buyer beware !!!

Very well. Jeremy had been recommended to me by several friends. I called him and he and another gentleman came out the very next weekend and repaired the issue including all the additional problems cause by the moving wall. They did a great job in securing the wall and fixing all the related issues.

Westward replaced wood flooring in my kitchen that had been damaged by everyday life. While the initial part of the job hit a speed bump Jeremy and Lukis did an amazing job in both customer service and follow through to get the job completed. I would call them again without thinking again. I highly recommend them to anyone!

I called Westward Carpenter Contractors on a Monday, and they were able to come to my house the same day. I've had an ongoing problem with water coming in around the front storm door, and Jeremy determined that it was a caulking issue. Problem solved, quickly and efficiently. Great service, very considerate and professional. I would definitely call Westward again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Everything worked out fine. He was a nice young man and I thought he did nice work. I was very happy with it. He came out and we talked about what it is that we wanted to have done. We talked about 2 different jobs and he gave us a bid for both of them. One we thought was too expensive and so we decided just to go with the other one. The next time he came, he brought the materials and he brought a worker with him and they installed the shelves. I thought they were very accommodating. He made some suggestions as how we could improve the look of what we had originally come up with which we thought was very helpful. I thought he was very professional and very eager to please. He really dedicated to his craft and he wants to make it a success. You respect that because you know his work will be dependent upon good reviews and referrals. We thought we had one problem but we contacted him. He offered right away to come out and correct it at no charge but we were able to resolve the issue on our own. He did everything that I wanted him to do.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal coupon from Westward Carpenter Contractors. They installed shelves in our rooms.

Jeremy & team are amazing. Very detailed in their scope of work and are able to communicate effectively during the entire process. They are priced fairly and by far are the hardest working contractors/vendors I have had the pleasure to work with over the years. Extremely professional, knowledgeable, clean, courteous and always on time. I have already referred several friends to them and they are also incredibly happy with the work that Westward has completed. I cannot say enough positive things about Westward and look forward to working with them for many years to come.
Description of Work: Westward Carpenter Contractors has provided 2 services for us over the past month. Most recently, we found mold coming through a basement wall for which we needed a foundation company to repair. Jeremy & team tore out the complicated wall area, and once the issue was fixed, they came back and replaced the drywall, insulation, etc. Because it was a tricky area with a closet involved, they painstakingly took the time and made the effort to make it perfect, and not only does it look great, it was done timely. We also had them install a new chandelier in our dining room. Given that we could have easily tore up piece of the ceiling to make the install, Westward made it a point to only disrupt enough area that would not result in us having to have the entire ceiling painted again. It look great, works perfectly, and was done timely and cleanly.

They did a fantastic job and were completely professional in every respect. They were very prompt, always returned calls, and showed up ready to work when they said they would be here. I would absolutely not hesitate to use Westward in the future and have already thought of a couple other projects that I would use them for. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Cut through our plaster ceiling and installed additional framing and support and then installed a very heavy (80 pound) light fixture. After installing the fixture, dry walled and patched the opening in the ceiling. Also wired the light fixture.

In the home repair world, it's always difficult to find professional people that do quality work without charging an arm and a leg. Westward took on our complicated carpentry projects by listening to our needs and ideas, offering up various options to complete the tasks and then made it work. We found Westward to be very professional and knowledgeable. They performed the work in a timely fashion and showed up when they said they would. We highly recommend Westward Carpenter Contractors and will certainly use them again!
Description of Work: Built front door closet, a custom cabinet and a pantry. They had to cut out a portion of our raised floor to build the closet and were able to reuse the hardware flooring and all trim. In addition to carpentry, they added electric, drywalled and primed all surfaces.

I was in need of a carpenter for a back porch. The concrete/brick contractor that I used (James at Anyway Concrete) suggested Jeremy. I contacted Jeremy and he came to my house to inspect the porch and discuss my wants and needs in just a couple of days. During the inspection he told me my porch wasn't in code because it lacked a landing, the railings were spaced too far apart, and the steps weren't wide enough. (Who knew?!) He also took time to answer all my questions about treated, cedar and synthetic lumber. He took measurements, then emailed me options for doing the work using treated lumber, cedar and synthetic which I had requested.. I went with cedar as we were getting new cedar fencing and I love the beauty and smell of cedar. Jeremy and his partner did a beautiful job! I now have a lovely back entrance porch that is in code, a pleasure to sit or stand on and is very secure and strong. I didn't realize how unsafe our old porch was until I experienced this one. I was hesitant about the landing, but I can tell you that after just one use, I now wonder how I managed all this time without it! It's a pleasure to be able to put bags on the landing and have my hands free to open the storm door and unlock the back door instead of trying to hold everything in one hand , while balancing on an 8" step hoping not to drop my keys or bags when the I swing open the storm door. I also enjoy standing on the landing in the morning and admiring the view of my new backyard. I kind feel like Leonardo DiCaprio (I'm king of the world!) when I stand and look out at my backyard domain er 125'x30' city lot... :) Jeremy and his partner were fast (they built the porch and gate in one day!), professional, courteous and respectful of my property. When they were done, they did a great job of clean up. They also gathered up all the left over cedar lattice and wood and gave to me to so I could burn in our soon to be purchased metal fire pit. I also appreciated how they showed me the receipts for all the materials purchased. When I commented that the railing was a little wide for my hands, they purchased and installed a solid oak railing with metal brackets at no additional charge. As the pictures show, Jeremy is a true craftsman.
Description of Work: Built a new back entrance way porch with landing as well as a gate for my basement steps.
