Based on a previous job, I contracted with Steve to finish my basement. He started and had initial materials delivered. There were some delays but he returned. When we got to the plumbing the job stopped. many excuses and then just refused any contact. I paid for materials in advance along with paying the Subs. When I paid the final amount his "mother" died and he had to leave town. He came back and his wife left. He would continue work when school let out. Etc, Etc. Estimates to complete the job range from 14,000 up. Will sue but can't afford it yet.

On June 16, 2008, I paid Steve $3000 down - $500 for labor on the outside projects, $500 for labor on the inside projects, and $2000 for materials for the decks. He said the materials would be delivered for the deck and he would begin work the following week. No materials were ever delivered and only after calling him repeatedly did Steve and his son begin working sporadically during the month of July 2008. At the end of July, Steve requested an additional $600 - not because work had progress that far or that any materials had been purchased, but because he was having personal financial difficulties and needed the money. I had none to give him. Steve never showed up again at my house - he ignored my calls, my emails, and my certified letter. His workmanship was pathetic! Steve rehung the paneling so low on the wall that when another contractor was hired to install the drop ceiling, he had to rip new paneling to cover the void - costing me an additional 4 hours of labor plus more materials. The paneling is also so low that it not only touches the concrete floor, but bends on it - no trim can be installed without first cutting the paneling at the floor. Of course, Steve glued the paneling to the studs, thereby making it impossible to remove and reuse it. In addition, when Steve reinstall the paneling, he broke the wires to my thermostat - I paid the heating people $368 for the new thermostat installation. The holes dug in my yard for the back deck did not have enough concrete to be proper support for the deck, so the footings had to be redone. More costs! I suppose I should be glad Steve didn't touch anything else!! I found out that Steve was on probation for other home repair scams when he robbed me. When he took another man's money soon after taking mine, that person filed criminal charges. The other man & I appeared in court, as good citizens should, only to hear the judge order a longer probation for Steve, but no restitution. Unfortunately, Steve Anderson & Sons are back in the business of home remodeling, ingratiating themselves in their church community to find more victims for their scams. Probation did not stop him the first time...I doubt it will stop him now. Steve Anderson is quite charming and talks a good line. He is not licensed, although he claims to be. Beware of this company! They will rob you!!
Description of Work: I received a written proposal was for three (3) projects: build a new 12 x 25 deck on the rear of my house, build a small wooden deck to cover the front porch of my house, and complete the basement remodel - install the drop ceiling in three rooms; remove insulation from behind a paneled wall in the bedroom & reinstall the paneling; create a drop-leaf on the kitchen counter to allow access to the sump pump; and trim out the bathroom. These projects were to be worked on simultaneously - outside when weather permitted and inside on rainy days. Steve and his 16 year old son worked approximately 10 hours total - the paneled wall was removed in the bedroom & the insulation thrown on the floor. They reinstalled the paneling, but incorrectly. They dug 3 holes in my back yard for the deck, but did not anchor them appropriately as footings for a deck. Then the Andersons disappeared.
