BUYER BEWARE!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME & MONEY. Owner is extremely unprofessional. I have reached out to the company a total of 5 times. Before coming to this point of leaving this review. I am now out over $7.5k. I hired allen heating and cooling to replace my 26 year old AC and 10ish year old furnace on May 2022. They have since been out on 4 occasions to try to get it to function properly. Once in December of 2022 in which they turned up the blower motor and turned down the gas. Because my home was 50 degrees and wouldn't heat. Then 3 times from April-May because the AC cant reach temp. All 3 times with no explanation as to why my AC wasn't properly functioning. No leak. Added freon just to be safe. But no other explanation and after every visit they said they'd let Tom know. Following every visit I'd have to email and call the office and explain its STILL not working. During these visits my caps where left off my AC the first time as photographed. Damaging the valve which was discovered on the 4th visit on the exterior unit. My interior unit was never put back together right the last visit.. and after ALL THESE VISITS and missed time at work. I spent THOUSANDS of dollars for a HVAC unit that has functioned less then 50% of the time I've had it. The owner has not ONCE reached out personally to handle this issue. The front desk staff just continues to send out techs & Tom continues to not take responsibility for the poorly installed system his buisness put in. Not standing by his contract terms or "worry free guarantee". I have done my part. I use the cheapest filters. I have air deflectors. Weather stripping. Blackout curtains & a great thurmostat. My AC functioned perfectly prior and was only replaced due to age along with the furnace. There is no excuse why after over $7.5k I do not have a working HVAC system. The company needs to stand by their work and rectify the situation. The company also gives a nice little discount for any customers who leaves a 5 star review.... if u look at how many negative reviews they have and the argumentative replies from the buisness to anyone who has something negative to say... well.. I see why they have to do this. I have provided photos to show what I've gone through with each visit and documented as much as possible to share. I have tried to be nice and gave the company way to many chances. I'm all for supporting local businesses and thought that this was a truly reputable buisness to go with as a 23 year old woman at the time just wanting the best for my first home. However I can't help but feel like I've been completely taken advantage of at this point. So I hope this review saves others from being in my same situation.

Ryan was great called just before he showed up. Great work and reasonably priced .made out same day I called even with record high temps .would call again in a heart beat

Ryan called before he came and he was right on time. He was very knowledgeable and gave us some great information. We will have them out in the fall.

excellent service and quality workmanship

We had 5 service visits by 3 different techs to check our A/C over 5 weeks. They replaced 2 expensive parts ($800+) and want to install even more ($$$) parts. The techs each pronounced the system fixed after a visit without really checking performance and dissed one another's expertise. The system is still not working any better than at the beginning. The first tech said he told us about the overall system status on his first visit, but this was definitely not the case. We have repeatedly had to call the office to get them to call us back on ordered parts and service calls. We are definitely going somewhere else.

They're tactics are deceitful and their practices unethical.

They were good. They were reasonable. They came earlier than scheduled for. They were prompt, professional, and they came on time.

It was $179. I would use them again. It’s just that I found someone who’s a little more better priced. I don’t want to say, “no”, because they were very good. They came out when it was late in the afternoon and my furnace wasn’t working. He was here within an hour. It was a very last minute kind of thing and he had it up and running within a couple of hours. I was very pleased.

Allen Heating and Cooling has lied to the Better Business Bureau. They have misrepresented the sequence of events and accused me of strong arming them when I attempted to dispute the charges to my credit card. Their business practices are misleading, deceitful and unethical.

This company is simply overbooked and cannot fit new customers, like me, into their schedule. I can understand this, and don't mind that they are too busy. What I want is to be told this information up front, and not be strung along. My total back-and-forth with this company lasted a full 24 hours. I first tried to set up a repair of the hot water heater. They called back and said they would not come to repair it, they would only come to replace it. This statement was made without looking at the system--just by phone. The claim was replacing it would save me money. They offered to give me an estimate for replacement and I agreed. After several calls back and forth with them throughout the afetrnoon, it became clear that they would not get an estimate to me before "next morning" because they had long-term customers who needed work done. At that point, I was still willing to consider their estimate in the next morning. However, they did not call in the morning. At 12:30 they called to tell me they still did not have an estimate. By that time I had gone with another company who has excellent ratings and has been very responsive. The person who called seemed shocked that I would do this, but of course I would--I have no hot water and they have no estimate on when they can help me. Just to clarify, my 2 problems with this company were: 1) They allowed the exchange to go on for many hours without telling me they imply do not have the people to do the work. 2) They agreed to call in the morning and then did not call until the afternoon. I think they are probably very good plumbers, based on the ratings, but they seem to be overwhelmed with work. They need to handle this better.

Bad. In September 2014, the company installed an entire HVAC unit in my home. Over the next summer, we would have several service calls for where the A/C was not cooling properly. The company recommended a change to the duct work in the home in order to solve the issue. After spending an additional $900 on the duct work changes, the A/C unit continues to not be able to cool the home sufficiently. After working with this installer on several occasions and with no resolution in sight, we called the Manufacturer of the A/C unit. They recommended that we have an authorized 3rd party to review and evaluate the issue. A 3rd party local authorized installer came to the home and conducted a visual inspection of the unit. Their conclusion was that the A/C unit is indeed undersized for the square footage of the home. I have had several conversations with the installer/owner of the company since the unit was installed in my home. Once the warranty for the installation ended, the company will not take any further responsibility.

Allen has serviced my furnace/AC for the past 4 years. I called them at 9am on a Tuesday to say my whole system had stopped working, and asked for a service call asap. I was told that they would try to get my home that day, and that if they could not get here, they would call before end of the day to set up for "first thing on Wednesday." By 4pm on Tuesday I had heard nothing. I called the office again and was told they would get to me early Wednesday, and I should hear from the service person as he was on the way. All of Wednesday came and went. At 5:30pm I got a call from the service man. He said he could be at our home shortly, but warned me that I would pay the overtime rate for the service call. I think my jaw dropped when I heard that. I told him I was not pleased and I would find somebody else to do the work. Allen had done satisfactory work for us in the past, though prices were on the high side. Perhaps the lack of responsiveness is due to their high ratings and having too many customers. They now have one less.

Very professional, clean and neat.

We were very happy with our technician. He was on time, very pleasant and professional. We will definitely use him again. We will also ask to be serviced by Jeff. He showed us the wire that an animal had chewed and added freon and replaced the damaged wire.

Sometimes it just would not turn on the heat. I could get it to start by either tuning it off/on, or playing with the thermostate. They first time they came out, disovered the furnace had a recall on it that caused water to collect. The water dripped on to the circuit board. They ordered parts to fix the recall. Two weeks later, they came out, fixed recall problem and replaced circuit board. Now, the furnace made a loud whistling sound when it tried to turn on. After a few days, it stopped turning on again. Call and they came right out that day. A new service man. He knew right away what was causing the whistling and fixed it. He also knew right away why it was not starting and fixed it. The furnace now seems to work correctly. It took two tries but they did get it right. They were very responsive to are calls. Its just a shame that the first guy did not get it right the first time.

Was very thorough and told me what will need to be done next season.

We have had no problems and would use them again.

We have a service plan with Allen. They maintain 3 furnaces for us (some with central AC). They have solved problems other heating/cooling people could not. We have used them for years.

The technicians arrived on time, they were very efficient, and with a hour and a half we had our new Trane air conditioner. One of the techs even installed a new thermostat we had purchased for no extra charge. We were very pleased from the Jeff, the salesman, to the technicians, and our new Trane air conditioner is the BEST! It is quiet, and our electricity bills have been cut in half.

The whole appointment took about 4 hours. There were at least four guys who worked efficiently and didn't leave a mess when they left. My husband asked them to leave the copper piping and they left it in a neat pile. They explained what they had done after. So far we are happy with the service and their quote was better than the big competitor here in Rockford. They contracted the duct cleaning with another company as part of our price so hopefully that goes well next week.

This company is very professional. They showed everything they were going to do. Showed me and explained everything they did. They gave me a quote for a new A/C.

Service technician indiated the cause was a general cleaning and maintenance of the igniter and boiler burners was required. I pointed out that the ignition operation was sporadic and asked himm to check the ignition as well. After cleaning the burners and igniter the technician left. An hour later the problem recurred, no ignition. I called Allen Heating and Plumbing and they offered to send a technician to follow-up the next day. Again I asked him to trouble shoot the igniter and control module. He replaced the igniter and left. Later that day the bailer again would not ignite. Allen and Heatin sent the techniscian back, where upon he performed a more comprehensive diagnostic and determined the controller was failing. Replacing the controller resolved the problem. Overall Allen Heating and Plumnbings hourly rates are rather expensive. They don't charge an overtime rate, but their standard rate is higher than others. Their troubleshooting ability an dpersistence is not a strong point. I would not use them again.

I have no complaints about the specific work that they did, but I think that they are over charging for their prices. They should not charge you to come out and diagnose with a compounded job charge. There should be a credit of the diagnostic towards the job labor. They overcharged for the specific part, as I had done research after the fact to see what the material costs actually were. They are just way out of line on the pricing when charging their customers. I would think that the employee's that work for them may be more patient and tolerant with pricing and billing. I did not have a good experience with their billing as I live in a different state and they kept charging the card with a zip code for my other home and telling me that the card was continually declined when I advised the difference in zip code. The woman in the billing department, Marilyn, was very unprofessional and seemed to not have great mannerisms. The service men that came out were great, courteous, and did a wonderful job, but after speaking with their upper management I was not happy.
