J T General Contracting

JT did a fine job in caulking our bathroom and sink. Given he was able to finish it in a few minutes (30 max), in retrospect the price is a bit high (I got an Angie's List deal). That said, I had tried caulking myself and it was a disaster, so it ultimately was money well spent!

It was cosmetic repair. It was a surface plaster of the wall of the staircase that they repaired. I will use them in the future.

Overall, the job went well. The worker and J.T were very professional. They initiated coming to do the work on several occaisons while in the neighborhood, but those times conflicted with my prior engagements. We coordinated a date and they came and contractor gave me the estimate of an additional $270.00 to complete the work. I had paid 89.95 for the Angie's List deal already. I am still not sure what the 89.95 covered, but I really wanted to get this wok done, so I agreed to the extra cost. Three workers worked on the project and they were very professional and focused on the tasks. The contractor consistently checked to make sure they were doing a good job. Overall, they did a satisfactory job on the cleaning of the grout and an excellent job on the chauking. My husband was not happy with the extra cost..it seemed high to him. Maybe my expectations for the grout was too high..I expected it to look brand new, but I also was expecting machines to do that, not men on their hands and knees scrubbing!

The owner of the company called to try to set up an appointment, and then emailed about it, and when I told him that his proposed day would not work for me, he said he could probably do it on a particular different day but he would have to check. 4 days later, since I hadn't heard back from him, I called to find out what day they were coming. He was still planning to come on the original date that wasn't going to work. He said he would call me back, but instead, the night before he wanted to come, he emailed at about 10pm and said he wanted to come the next day. Unfortunately, I didn't get it until the next morning, so I had to reschedule with them. When we were finally able to plan a time, we prepared for them to be there at 8:30am. They didn't show (either time that they came) until 8:45 or so. Over all we were very pleased with their manner and work. They brought 3 workers the first time and 2 the second time. They covered the light fixtures and moved the furniture so that things wouldn't get dusty. The finished product looks great, no bubbles, totally ready for us to paint! The price was very fair. The only difficulty we had was with their disorganized scheduling.

We purchased the $99 Angie's List Coupon that included 4 hours of drywall repair or room paint. The vendor informed us after completing the work that almost all of his jobs had a mandatory two person requirement, therefore right away extra money was due as compared to what was stated on the coupon. He also said that there was a fee for coming out to perfom the service and for materials. He made multiple trips to complete this job and to be honest the workmanship wasn't that great. This was a drywall repair job that we had done in the past with less time and it only cost $80. We ended up paying over $500 (and that was after some negotiating). I felt that this coupon was very deceptive and misleading. If I knew it would cost that much we would've and could've easily done this ourselves. There was no fine print listed on the pages of the coupon that I printed out. I would not use this service again because as I said I feel like they charged too much for the services provided and the $99 coupon was very misleading becuase there is no way the price would've come close to $99.

The owner came in and gave me an estimate because the scope of the job was much larger than the coupon I purchased. He oversaw the entire job and cleaned up afterwards.

From this encounter, I would think that JT Remodelers is very consistent. I made three calls to different contractors, while on a very rare break from my busy schedule. I am simply trying to get an idea of how much a remodel of office space would run me, so that I can expand my business. After calling to request a meeting, I resumed my day. One contractor called, and we met to discuss the project. I called JT again and left another message. I met with another contractor. About a week later, JT Remodelers called back. We arranged to meet the following week. He came by and looked at the project to have been done: walls to be framed, drywall and painting, carpeting and the like, upstairs and down in an office space in Oak Park. Aside from the communication issues (he didn't seem interested in listening to my description of the work) we seemed to have encountered along the way, I thought this would work out. I told him I would make sure to compare the specifics involved in the estimates of the other contractors with his, just to be certain we were comparing apples with apples. We chatted a moment and he said he would get back to me the following week. That was the last I heard from him, in spite of several calls since our meeting on that chilly December evening. That being said, he was on time for our meeting.

I purchased a coupon for $89 to do up to 4 hours of caulking and grout restoration. James promptly called me after the coupon purchase and we were able to schedule something quickly, which wasn't needed but appreciated as I have let these coupons sit unused for too long in the past. He arrived on time and assessed the situation. Unfortunately, the work I needed done was more more than simple caulking and grout restoration, but we were able to discuss what could be done and he and his crew were able to address the tile in both bathrooms and foyer to provide needed maintenance and improve the appearance of these areas. I really appreciated his manner with his crew and I would have confidence in him as a general contractor on a larger project because of this. The only downside is that I didn't really get much out of the $89 coupon itself (it was applied to the cost of caulking the bathtub), but overall, my tile got a lot of TLC and looks great.

Jim called me the same day I left a voicemail and was quick to set up an appointment. He and an assistant performed this work very efficiently and thoroughly. When Jim arrived, I added a couple of extra areas that we had not discussed on the phone and he was happy to do the extra work on the spot. They did a great job and left my home as they found it.

Jim was one of several general construction folks I reached out to via Angies. He was the 1st to actually come out and meet me at the property and see the issue first hand. Many seemed "too busy" for such a small job, but Jim was personable, professional and detailed in his assessment of the damage, what the repair might consist of, and the total cost. We agreed on the specifics, set a date, waited on the weather and the job was done in a day. Great guy, I'd refer anytime.

When James came out for the estimate, he came up with ideas for this project that we had not thought of or even knew were possible. In building the porch, he did a beautiful job with great attention to detail. He wanted to do the job right even though it took longer than he had expected. We are very pleased with the finished porch.

JT General Contracting didn't end up doing any work for me, just submitted an estimate.

He was extremely thorough. He was professional. He was very good. It was a good experience. I would use them in the future.

James was nice and helpful when we met with him. He went through our options and and made some good suggestions. He told us that he would have a quote in a few days. I had to email him a couple of times to get the quote and it ended up taking 10 days to get the quote. When we did it was over double the quotes provided by two other contractors. Overall, he was nice to talk to but his responsiveness wasn't great and his price was extremely high.

Our interaction with J T General Contracting was very positive. Jim was very thorough when he stopped by to talk about our project. The estimates we received we're priced fairly and received in a timely manner. Although, we did not move forward with them for our deck project our experience was very positive and helpful. Jim also gave us some great ideas for a concrete project that we may use them for in the future.

We had to clear out the basement and from under the porch first. They dug holes in preparation for pouring concrete the next day. They worked long and hard the first day. The second day of concrete was shorter followed by a day off so the concrete would cure. They returned the fourth day to install the supports which took most of the day. They swept up the basement. I particularly asked that no one smoke inside, and not to leave cigarette butts outside either. Smoking turned out not to be a problem which I appreciated.

I can't say enough great things about JT General Contracting. His vast knowledge of so many trades made him the perfect contractor to help fix many decades of previous owners projects. Super responsive, meticulous, honest, I would trust him with any project in my home. His guys are great, very neat and respect my home as theirs. I would enthusiastically recommend him for any project.

Three companies gave me estimates on the job. I chose Jim's company because of the attention to detail he demonstrated both during his initial visit and with his follow-up estimate. Once the job started, he and his crew worked tirelessly and I was again impressed with their attention to detail and the pride they brought to their work. They made structural improvements while performing the cosmetic work I had ordered. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the end result. And then, after the job was finished, his crew returned to replace one of the floor boards that mysteriously developed a couple of stains (we went with a composite material decking). We plan on using Jim again for future projects and I give him my highest recommendation.

The experience was excellent. I was pleased with the price, they did a good job and they were punctual. They did high quality work.

They were prompt. The estimate was very comprehensive and he was very thorough, describing the work that was required. He gave many options which we appreciated based on the budget. I would definitely consider using him to complete the project.

Jim was terrific, I cannot say enough about him. I do not know what I would have done without him.

They did a real good job. There was an issue with the pump. We had to do a lot of calling because it was hard to find somebody to work on the Whirlpool we have. They came out and looked at it. We tried to do something a little cheaper but ended up having to replace the whole assembly. They went out and got it. They came back and did it. They made sure it worked. The price was reasonable. They were really good. They had to put in the pump assembly. They tried to figure out a way to do it so that they did not have to replace the whole assembly. They tried to replace only the pump. However, the pump and the assembly was a single unit. So they had to get the whole assembly. That was why it was more expensive. They might have gone to home depot or wherever to get the pump, I have no idea. It was worth it for them to get it and I have no reason to believe that they jacked up the price. They came when they were supposed to come. The guy was really good. If anything goes wrong with the washer or dryer, we will call them back. They were really nice. They put up with my two cats. They were walking around being very curious.

Great. Went very smoothly. Not an easy job, either. Re-worked some of the plumbing and even re-wired the electrical where the previous owner did his own semi-pro job. About three months from start to finish, but would have been quicker if we were quicker selecting the materials. Bailed us out when I forgot to hire a paint contractor to do the small amount of painting needed, they had a contractor they worked with come in, estimate, pick up the supplies and have it painted in about 3 days to keep the rest on schedule. Only cost overages were us picking out fixtures that were more expensive than the estimate had included. Looks great. Every time someone comes over that hasn't seen it before, compliments the new kitchen. And it was desperately needed.

They did good work. They are knowledgeable. They knew what needed to be done and how to do it. They stayed within the estimate. They cleaned up after themselves very well.
