 + -1 moreGrout was flaking away from where the wall tile met the granite counter top. There were also some issues with the bathroom counter top and the bathtub caulk/grout. They came in and assessed what could be done and what any extras would cost, along with giving me options. I chose what I wanted. They did the job for the price they quoted. The completed job looks great.

Description of Work: I heard about JT from an Angie's weekly deal promotion and couldn't have gotten more value for what I paid. James was punctual, communicated well, and did a great job cleaning up the grouting in my bathroom (the previous owners did a really careless, sloppy job with their bathroom renovation). The workers were professional & ensured that drop cloths were placed in relevant areas to prevent dust & dirt from staining furniture & carpet. The drywall repair looks great. The one "hiccup," encountered, was that the workers neglected to address one of the cracks outlined on the invoice, but Jim was quick to schedule another time to come out to get the crack addressed.

 + -1 moreI purchased a $99 coupon for plaster repair to fix cracked plaster throughout a stairwell. Jim Taccola said he could do the work but that it would likely take longer than the coupon was good for. He also suggested replacing the plaster with drywall for a lower-maintenance wall. I agreed with his drywall assessment and was happy with the price he quoted. They were able to get on the job right away and it took as long as he said it would. Jim was very responsive regarding telling me times they would be working, and making sure it worked with my schedule. He and his crew explained where they were in the process throughout each day. His courteous crew worked very diligently and quietly, and cleaned up well after each day. Hiring a contractor, to me, ranks up there with buying a car and going through that whole purchasing process. I really hate doing it, feeling like I am going to be scammed and always on the defensive. Jim and JT General Contractors were great through the whole process and did exactly what they said they were going to do. The quality of their work was great too, which should be a given from all contractors, but you never know what your'e going to get! Hire him!
Description of Work: Removed plaster walls from a stairwell and replaced with drywall. Also made a banister to support a basic railing.

 + -1 moreSome tiles were pushed away from the wall, so I suspected water damage. Since we didn't have an option of tearing apart everything, Jim gave us an option that would hold us until we could have the whole shower area replaced. They cleaned up some of the wall behind the tiling and then just replaced the tile before cleaning up the grout in the rest of the shower area. The job looks amazing. I'm so pleased and I look forward to working with JT Contracting again. All of the guys were nice guys to talk to, explaining everything. I'm a happy camper!!!

 + -1 moreThe person who came to look at it gave us an estimate (the cost exceeded the Angie's list special I had purchased.). They were willing to do it on the spot, but since it was inconvenient, two workers were sent at another mutually convenient time. The two men worked hard and the result looks very nice.
Description of Work: They cleaned the grout in the bathtub with a special cleaner and resealed it. They removed caulking that was the improper type and was molding and redid that caulking. The bathtub area looks much nicer thanks to their work.

 + 1 moreI had purchased a Angies coupon for $99.00 for a plaster guy for four hours. Jim came over with two workers, I showed what I wanted done, without saying a word he drew up a contract in which he asked me to sign stating to finish the work complete it will take more time than paid for at $140.00 an hour. I asked him how much it would cost to complete the job at one price, he didn't answer and held the contract and a pen in front of me. I wanted this work done before the holidays so I took my chances and signed and end up paying an additional $370.00. The work is very well done but I think it could have been less expensive.
Description of Work: Did plaster work to new dry wall and repair old walls in bathroom and hallway.

 + -1 moreWhile I was immediately impressed with the appearance of the shower (grout and caulk) following the visit, the originally white caulk which was installed has turned even more yellow than it was prior to being replaced, despite my routine cleaning of the shower. I do not feel I got my money's worth since I was surprised with extra expense (admittedly prior to the work being done, but only right before and when I had already taken unpaid time off of work) and now the caulk needs to be replaced again only 7 months later!
Description of Work: I purchased this service as an Angie's List Big Deal. Although I routinely clean my shower the grout (installed in 2009) was turning gray (originally white) and the white caulk was turning yellow. I wanted the caulk and grout restored. I paid $89 for 4 hours of grout and caulk restoration and was surprised when the business owner told me I would have to pay more since he was going to use 2 men to complete the project. I was not expecting this extra expense and was not too happy about this since I already had to take unpaid time off of work to be present while the work was being done. My shower is not big and it's a combo tub/shower to begin with. The area of grayed grout was also not that expansive. The 2 workers were polite and seemed to work diligently for the 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours they were at my condo. I was impressed with the appearance of the shower area immediately following the visit however while the grout seems to have retained it's good appearance the caulk is now (7 months post-visit) even more yellow than before it was replaced! I don't totally feel I got my money's worth, especially considering I was surprised on the morning of the work visit with extra expense.

I had to get the work done so paid for it. This time I said I only wanted to have them work for the 4 hours/1 room of paint. When done, they said they had gone a little over and I owed for an additional hour of work.

 + -1 moreThe main guy (I'm really bad with names) came in and I told him what needed to be done: replace grout around a shower basin, around the bathtub, the kitchen backsplash, bathroom backsplash. He brought in two guys to do the work and they did it very well. The one guy had some extra time on his hands and took it upon himself to fix the kitchen cabinet doors that needed adjustment since they were hanging open. I was very impressed with the people who did the work. They did a fine job and I would not hesitate to hire them for other work. They were also very tidy, which I really appreciate.

 + 0 moreJim and his crew were prompt, courteous, and keep their work area very clean. They covered floors and furniture with tarps to minimize the effects of the plaster dust. They were efficient workers.We also appreciate his knowledge on ventilation and roofer recommendation.
Description of Work: Jim Taccola and crew patched cracks in the plaster walls of three bedrooms. He analyzed our humidity issues and, after inspecting our attic crawlspace insulation, determined the effervescence on our ceiling and cracks and peeling paint on our walls was caused by poor attic ventilation. He recommended a roofer to address those issues. Afterwards, Jim came another time and hooked up the electric for our new attic ventilation fan.

 + 0 moreFor the most part I am happy with the work. Some paint splatter wasn't cleaned up, but it sort of blended with the wood so even I didn't notice it right away. My biggest gripe was that the room has sort of an odd indentation in it. It's an open area of the room that I assumed would be painted, but I was told that it was a closet and therefore not included. I actually would have been willing to pay extra to have the space included, but I didn't know it wasn't going to be painted until the work was complete. By that time the painter had already packed up all his gear, so I just let it go. To this day I have a beautifully painted room with this weird non-matching nook.

 + -1 moreThey were very responsive I got the job sceduled right away and they came ontime. Everything was talked through, looked good and was cleaned up very nicely. I really liked the guys who came. The only negative comment I have is that I bought the Big Deal for 4 hours worth of work and although they did it within the timeframe they charged more. I was still happy though with the end product and will use them again.
