OLD WORLD BRICK PAVING

This is the third time we have had our driveway power washed and resealed. We have used 3 different companies for this work. Old World did the best job of getting the driveway clean. They completely strip the old sealant off the driveway to help the new sealant last longer. Previous companies we used did not strip the old sealer. We were pleased with the work and look forward to a longer lasting sealer this time around.

I cannot express how impressed and satisfied we are with every aspect of Old World Brick Paving. From the estimate to the work to the customer service, they are outstanding. We are thrilled with the finished product! Frank and his staff are kind, responsive and do excellent work. Our patio was thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed, resanded and an oil based sealer was applied. Frank fully explained the difference between water and oil based sealing. Be aware that not all companies offer oil based sealers. We chose oil based as it lasts longer and requires less maintenance. We are so pleased! In addition to the quality of their work, the staff is the epitome of customer service. We were treated so nicely! For example, due to health issues, my husband and I were unable to move our patio furniture back after the project was completed. Frank sent staff back out to move it back for us! We would not hesitate to use Old World Brick Paving again. I highly recommend them for the price, quality of work and outstanding customer service. Thank you Frank!

From the very first meeting we felt comfortable with our salesperson Dave Gibson. Throughout the process he was always available to answer any questions we had. The crew worked really hard and we appreciated the great work they did. Our neighbors on both sides of our house complimented the work too! We've already recommended Old World Brick Paving to friends and would not hesitate to use them again.

The job was done efficiently and completed on time as promised. The workmen were extremely courteous and professional. Frank was very observant and kept us informed of the daily progress. After a year of harsh winter weather our patio still looks great! We get a lot of compliments and are extremely happy with the job. Thank you Frank; good job!

From start to finish these guys did a great job. Worked mainly with Dave who was great to work with and kept me up to date with what would happen next on the project. The crew worked fast and efficiently and always cleaned up the entire job site at the end of each day. I would strongly recommend these guys if you need a patio installed.

Very knowledgeable and communicative. I appreciated the frequent phone calls and text messages during the process keeping me apprised of the progress. The workers were polite and cleaned up nicely after themselves. The finished product looks great. I received three estimates, and they were the priciest, but definitely made the best impression. Would use them again, but hopefully won't have to do so!

I'm very pleased with the results. They also helped me with the village permit process. They came when they promised & completed the job as promptly as the weather allowed. When Frank came to do the estimate, he was the only contractor who explained the process and the type and importance of the foundation to me. This gave me confidence that he knew what he was doing. The results have proved that. I would certainly recommend Old World Brick Paving and use them again.

Dave and Frank were excellent to work with. They are very prepared and will educate you on the caution points of hardscaping properly and why you can trust them. I appreciated their knowledge and professionalism and were actually very honest in trying to find us the most affordable option (repair vs. replace out patio). What we struggled with the most is that compared to other bids we received, Old World Brick Paving could not (or chose not to even though we asked) provide a design rendering or minimally a professional sketch of the new patio design. For as prominent of local company that they appeared to be, they did not compete well with providing a design (we received one from every vendor, even those that were smaller companies and appeared to have fewer resources). Dave said he has the Unilock's software but doesn't know how to use it so my feedback is that I highly suggest that they learn how to use it to be more competitive. In addition, although they were seeking creative ways to bring the cost down for us, the estimate was still well over our budget; we actually ended up finding another comparable vendor on quality who gave us 1.5x the value than Old World Brick Paving for $4,000 less (e.g. Replacing walkway vs. repairing, upgrading to a higher tier Unilock material, and throwing in repairs to our brick driveway at no cost). It was a pleasure working with Frank, he is professional and you can tell he prides himself on his work. If the price feels too high I suggest getting other estimates as we did and just ensure you do your research to know what quality level you will be getting. Also if you are more of a visual person I don't recommend Old World Brick Paving until they adopt using the design software to build out your project.

The work was completed in a little over a week. The crew members were hard working, courteous, and efficient.

We read favorable reviews on this company, so I called them early in the fall of 2014, in order to get a bid for a project for the early spring of 2015.The man I spoke with said that they were swamped and he would not be able to come out to look at the property until November -- and that I should call back then. When I called back in November, no one returned my call for a week or more. I was beginning to give up on them and move on, when I got a call from a salesman. He came to the property in December and talked with us, doing a presentation describing the high quality of their work. He promised to send a proposal in 2-3 days, but that didn't materialize. I called him on it and wHen he sent the bid, it came with apologies for the delay, But, it was more than another bid I had received. When I spoke with the salesman and explained that we were going to go with the other company, I also gave him feedback on how the whole interaction with Old World had played out. He was very pleasant and professional throughout and seemed to really listen to the constructive feedback. No hard feelings in spite of the issues described, I would be willing to call them again and give me a shot at bidding on future projects for us.

Frank and his crew did an amazing job. They showed up on time every day, and continued working until the job was done. The workmanship is excellent -- we now have a beautiful back patio that we can use for years to come. The workers who were at our house every day were easy to communicate with and responsive. They had good suggestions, and put in the extra effort to make sure all of the details were done correctly. I highly recommend them.

Frank was great to work with. We had called for an estimate and he took the time to accommodate an evening appt - we both work full time during the day. Frank was very good about communicating the different options and worked within our budget. He also was able to provide us with the tradeoffs based on the various options. His overall presentation and willingness to spend time with us during the quote phase made the biggest difference. He had a tablet that showed his work and he also relayed stories of his past work - we knew we were not dealing with a rookie or an inexperienced company. Frank also was very upfront about our obligations after we had committed - we worked with the village to get the permits and this was also reassuring to us that he wasn't willing to cut corners. Frank was always available via cell phone and very responsive throughout the process. Everything he promised (that he would be there on every job, that our job would only take 2 days - it did) was done right and went very smooth. While the work was going on, Frank was able to keep us up to date on the progress and remaining work to be done. He also texted us pictures of the progress which was very helpful. Highly recommend - we are extremely happy with the work and would definitely use them again for our other projects!

After looking, shopping around and having multiple companies coming out to my house, I decided to go with Old World Brick Paving Inc. After meeting and talking to a wonderful salesman Greg Waters, I understood right away, that they were the best company to do business with. I was impressed with Greg Waters' knowledge, customer service, attentiveness and his professional demeanor. When I asked if I could get the financing on the project since it was so large, he told me they never did it in the past ( No other paving companies that I contacted would provide financing either ), but promised me to see what he could do. And guess what, Greg was able to get me a financing. It was really impressive. Greg delivered everything he promised. Company should be proud of having him on the team. They started the job even faster they promised (They even got the town permits for the project, which was very nice of them ). Owner Frank would come out every day and check how the project was going along and ensured that all details were fully understood by the everyone on site. It was a pleasure to deal with Frank. I already have couple other projects in mind for this year and I will definitely use OLD WORLD BRICK PAVING SERVICES.

The job went very well. It's not a huge patio, a little under 200 square feet. The workers showed up on time and completed the job faster than I thought possible. Before installing the new pavers, old material was removed and a new foundation was placed and compacted that met the paver manufacturer's standards. I had also received a quote from another contractor who advertises this same brand of paver on their trucks, only to find out from Unilock that they are not an authorized installer. It pays to do a little legwork. I could not be happier with the results and would not hesitate to use them again.

The work was done in 1 day, and everything turned out great. The new dirt and gravel are compacted so well that they are as stable as the adjacent undisturbed ground. Based on my professional experience, they gave this small residential project the same level of quality and care you would expect on a large scale public or commercial project.

We are very happy with the outcome. Frank did not expect to be able to get us scheduled this year but ultimately it turned out he had a hole in his schedule and we are happy he did. Frank is extremely thorough with the preparation of the site before any bricks go in place. There are actually different qualities of gravel and sand which he explained to us before he quoted. We got quotes from three highly rated Angies List providers and Frank's was a hair higher than the others but he had explained his process and we felt he was giving us a better-engineered product so we went with his company. One thing that surprised me about all the quotes we got is that nobody shared a sketch of the work to be done, so I did my own to be sure we were all on the same page and that we had it to refer to so we all knew what was agreed to. I recommend that you do this regardless of which contractor you hire. Anyway, the work was absolutely beautiful. We had no idea how much this would improve our house's appearance. We went with brick over the stoop as well as brick for the walks, and I highly recommend that brick walks need brick stoops as well. Frank also elevated our back path so we could enter our garage without a step. This was a nice plus. Regardless of who you choose I recommend that you buy a box of shoe covers before the work starts. It is unavoidable, they have to excavate in order to put down the gravel, so for a day or two your path will be dirt. Shoe covers kept the sneakers clean and kept me from tracking dirt into the house. Same for the couple of days it is gravel. Gravel sticks to sneakers and the shoe covers kept me from tracking gravel into the house. So in closing I would say Frank's quality is definitely worth a reasonable premium. The work was really good. One of my neighbors (kiddingly) accused me of running up the property taxes for our whole neighborhood because our walk looks so good.

The job was actually completed ahead of schedule. A bit more sand was needed in a few spots and it took over a week for that to be completed, but given the weather, that was understandable. Everything was done professionally and cleanly. We would definitely recommend them.

After witnessing a horrible install of a paver patio done in my neighbor's yard by a "landscaper" I decided to research Angie's list for a reputable brick paving company. Old World Brick stood above the rest. I was amazed by the positive reviews so I gave Old World Brick a call. I met Frank Calistro (the owner) a week later and was very impressed with his easy going attitude and his wealth of knowledge of the brick paving business. He took his time with us and spent over an hour going over details such as the superior products he uses, and he does, from stone to brick its all top notch material! We discussed the size of the patio and the 3 walk ways to be installed answering all of our questions in detail. After receiving the quote I signed the contract on the spot and gave 1/3 down as a deposit. About a week later the wife and I decided to take a ride to the Unilock showroom in Aurora Il to choose a different style of brick than the one originally chosen. we were totally undecided on which brick to choose and turned to Frank for his thoughts on a final product. He took the time to meet with us again bringing clay paver brick samples that he thought would better suit our style of house. We also talked about changes to the shape of the patio. Frank was just so patient with our indecisiveness.(Thank you so much for your patience Frank! Really mean this!) We decided on one of the clay pavers Frank recommended and waited for the install date. About 2 weeks later Frank and his crew showed up and started work without hesitation. Frank outlined all of the boarders and had a job briefing with his crew ensuring that they understood all the details of the project. They took out the old patio, walk ways, and put down the base all in the first day. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the crew and how well they worked together. I was also impressed with the equipment they used to get the job done (you'll see what I mean,lol) ! They left the job site clean at the end of each day. The total job was done in 4 days and we were just blown away with the final product! True craftsmanship indeed. My hats off to the foreman on the job that actually laid the brick and made all the cuts! He actually cared about his work and really thought out the pattern! The compliments we receive from family and friends have been overwhelming. But let me add that all of the compliments have one thing in common, they all have the word QUALITY in them and believe me it shows. If you are thinking about installing a new paver patio in your back yard let me tell you, look no further! you found the best with Old World Brick! They are true Craftsmen!!! Thanks Frank and crew!!! We are so happy how smooth the whole process went and more importantly we are so happy with our new beautiful patio!

Working with Old World was a pleasure throughout the entire process. Frank is passionate about his work and it showed in my first interaction with him. When he developed our estimate he took the time to explain exactly what differentiates him in the field, provided options for us to consider, and explained the details of the materials and processes he would use on the job. When the crew arrived to start the work, Frank was on site to ensure that all details were fully understood by the everyone on site. The project was completed in a highly professional manner and it was clear that the crew took pride in their work. They spent a day and a half just compacting the base layer. Bricks were laid out and they took their time to rearrange bricks on occasion to ensure that the patterns were correct. All equipment and materials were neatly organized on the job site. Frank and his crew made sure that he job was done right. My wife and I are thrilled with the outcome and look forward to many years of use from our new hardscaping. I highly recommend Old World Brick Paving.

Frank and his team were great from start to finish on this project. When I first contacted him he was upfront about the expected start date given his full schedule, which I appreciated (vs. others who would tell you an immediate start date just to win the business). Frank doesn't start a project until he finishes his prior ones, so you don't have to worry about his crew or him being distracted on any other projects while they are working on yours. The patio looks fantastic and the kitchen is a great addition to our home. The quality of the work was great, especially around the curves and edges of the patio (by comparison, someone else did our paver sidewalk and the angles look terrible compared to Frank's precise cuts). We appreciated Frank's attention to detail around the patio and kitchen installation. We also appreciated his advice on the design, including dimension, layout and adding a bar and a pergola. He was respectful of our ideas but also made it clear where he thought things would or would not work. Our only issue with the project was some miscommunication around the permitting, so we were delayed a bit because of that. Once the process got going, Frank took care of all permitting and inspection updates as needed. Frank is extremely professional and responsive. We have young kids and a dog, and he and his team were always very courteous and mindful of the little ones being around. Also, anytime we had a question or concern, Frank came over right away and helped u work through it. He was also very helpful with other professional recommendations for things we needed (fence, air conditioning re-positioning, etc.) Everyone he suggested was terrific and very professional. I would HIGHLY recommend Frank for any outdoor patio and outdoor kitchen project.

Frank and Greg are very communicative about the project - timing, materials and layout. I felt highly confident about the plan before "construction" even began. The result, was beyond my (our) expectations - quality, looks great and really enhances our entire backyard environment.

Beautiful result with topnotch quality....Frank and his team were attentive and flexible throughout making this first encounter with a contractor a great one. If we had more work to do around the house, we would for sure call Frank first.

I signed the contract and paid one third of the total price on June 10th. I had to wait a few weeks, as they were already working on several projects. Work started on July 2nd. The workers worked extremely long days on July 2nd and 3rd. Then they came back after the holiday weekend, and finished the job on July 7th. The workers were extremely courteous. They took their time to do the job the right way. I noticed that after they stamped down the gravel with their machine, they dug it up and turned it all, and then stamped it down again. They really took their time on the sublayers. After laying the bricks, they pulled some up to make the pattern better. I could tell that they didn't have the "Well, it's good enough" attitude. They wanted it to be perfect. Price-wise, I feel like I got a good value. Their estimate came in lower than other estimates, but I feel like the quality is still there. We finally replaced the patio because we were getting water in our basement stairwell. The bonus is that the new patio looks amazing,and now I love hanging out in the back yard.

My wife and I looked at several different companies for a large patio and drainage plan for our back yard. Greg was responsive and extreamly knowlageable of his product, installation, and fully answered any questions that I had. My wife and I chose to go with a different company for the work, however would not hesitate to use Greg and Old World Brick Paving in the future.

I met with Greg Waters from Old World and he gave me the estimate for the work. Due to the weather we had this Spring, he told me they were beginning to back up with their jobs and it would several weeks before my yard would get done. I appreciated the fact he was up front about the timeframe .He gave me a date of the week of 6/30 and said he would keep in touch as the date got closer which he did. He called the day before the job was to start and offered to move any patio furniture if needed. The cleaning was done in one day and the sealing was done two days later. I am very pleased with the job. My yard has never looked nicer. I would definitely use Old World again and have recommended them to my friends and neighbors.
