After multiple people filed lawsuits they've declared bankruptcy. NPS SALES, CONTRACTING, & REPAIRS, LLC filed a 7 chapter bankruptcy in the Central District of Illinois bankruptcy court on November 15, 2022. This is a voluntary filing; it was assigned the bankruptcy case number #22-90478.

The Job: NPS (owned by James Johnson) contracted to remodel 3 upstairs bathrooms. Also included was to move a closet door from bathroom access to bedroom access and cover the new entry with a barn door. There was nothing particularly challenging in all this, just take out the old and put in new all in the same places. No walls to move or anything like that. The master bath shower included a steam generator as a new feature. OK Workmanship: In the end almost everything looks pretty good. I’d give 4/5 stars for this. Some of the work is just OK, and some is bad. 2 of the three showers were tiled by the NPS tile guy and they are pretty good. One shower wasn’t done by the tile guy and the quality is significantly reduced. There are rough lines, jagged edges, and inconsistent patterning. Someone marked shower doors and shower tile with a sharpie. It has been very hard for us to clean off. Sharpie lines were used to mark shower door edges, then those lines were covered with clear caulk so we can’t clean it. We asked NPS to fix this, but they refused because “it’s not visible from outside the shower”. From the inside it’s ugly. The steam shower was done wrong. It should be substantially closed but there is a 6 inch gap at the top where the steam just shoots out. The steam unit itself was supposed to be enclosed somehow but its just sitting on the closet floor, ugly with pipes running through gaping holes in the wall. Maybe we could have insisted these be fixed but after 5 months we just wanted NPS out of our lives. After NPS announced they were “done” we had to hire another contractor to do the steam shower right. We also hired a home inspector who found bad wiring and lack of venting for a ceiling fan NPS put in. We had to hire yet another contractor to fix those problems. Adding in all this time and the job really took 7 months. The Bad, Schedule This job started December 3rd 2021 and was supposed to take 7 weeks to be done January 21. It took 5 months and wasn’t done until May 5th 2022. We took 8 working days of vacation in March and closed the job. We didn’t trust them in the house while we were gone. That vacation was then used as an excuse for further delays. This degree of schedule failure is just inexcusable. There were no major problems like dry rot or mold or anything. The primary reason for the delays was that there were so very, very, many days when no one showed up to work. Then there were many days where someone worked an hour or 2 or a half day. James disputes this but we were working from home, we know when they were there. Even if he’s right it just changes the problem from no workers showing up to the job being grossly underestimated, which isn’t better. The second reason for the delays is that a ridiculous amount of the work just got done wrong the first time and had to be re-done. I really can’t overemphasize this point. It is just really stunning the amount of things that were done wrong on the first pass and had to be fixed or re-done later. The Bad, Communication We were rarely told what was going to happen next and when we were told it was typically wrong. If we asked or complained about the workmanship or schedule James’s replies were universally angry, hostile, and full of excuses. I could add dozens more examples of bad workmanship that had to be fixed and hostile communication, but I don’t want this review to go 20 pages long. NPS has many good reviews, but our experience was not consistent with those reviews. NPS has many bad reviews, and our experience was completely consistent with those reviews. We would not use NPS again nor recommend them to anyone. While the final product, in the end, was OK, the process matters and the process for this job was horrible. The hallmark of a good contractor isn’t how they handle success, that’s easy. It’s how they handle adversity, and NPS completely failed on this point.

Absolutely terrible. These guys seem like they have no idea what they're doing. Estimates from other companies are $117,000-$135,000 to finish / repair the work!
