Said they could have it done in 3 weeks (before I moved into the house) took 7 weeks. Took out the patio quickly, then nothing for weeks. I had to move into the house with no fence and had to board my dog for 12 days at a kennel. The guys came to put in the fence but the bushes had not been removed (they were on the property line and had to be removed to put up the fence-Steve told me this when he was pricing the job and that I would have to let my new neighbors know we had to take out the bushes they thought were theirs). Steve came and CUT down the bushes so the fence could be put up (I was at work when all this was going on and did not find out about it until I came home). When I called him about just cutting the bushes instead of removing them (roots and all) he said they never remove them to put up a fence! I had to pay extra for them to take them out. He started hounding me for final payment before the work was done calling me 4 times in 1 afternoon (I was at work) and then calling me at work. When I told him I wouldn't pay before the work was finished he said they were finishing it up as we spoke (when I got home the work was not done-nothing was done that day). The patio has low spots, I get puddles when it rains. They cut a wire for the sending unit for my underground sprinkler system (which is probably why he never started the system up which he was supposed to do-outside of this contract). I have outside lights that shine on the house that had wires cut in 2 places so the lights on one side of the house and most of the back do not work. There were lights near the patio that were pulled up and never reset-2 of the 3 lights no longer work. I gave a 'C' for price but that is based on what was supposed to be done, I give a "D" for what was really done. I am glad I only gave him about 25% of the work I plan to have done. The rest (redoing all the landscaping in front. paver patio in front and a walk down the side of the house and raised beds in back) will definitely NOT go to him.

The contract we had with Cosmopolitan listed the following: Spring cleanup and 3'' of mulch to be applied to plant beds after they were cultivated. A ground cover was to be removed and replaced with a new ground cover. Five lilac bushes were to be planted, and 4 burning bushes. The irrigation system was to be running by the end of April. Lawn mowing to include weed removal in beds. The spring cleanup had no weed removal. The mulch was simply put down over existing weeds and unwanted plants. I did not get 3'' of mulch (maybe 1'' at most). The ground cover was not totally removed and there were unwanted grasses in the bed as well. We never received a new ground cover or lilac bushes or burning bushes. The irrigation system was not turned on until the end of May, despite repeated phone calls. The weekly removal of weeds consisted of them cutting the tops off weeds. After repeated phone calls to complain, I was told they did not want to honor our contract and cancelled our service!

REBUTTAL: COSMOPOLITAN INFORMED US THAT HIS WARRANTY DID NOT COVER INSTALLATION LABOR OR DELIVERY. WHEN I OBJECTED, HE OFFERED TO SPLIT THE COST WITH ME 50/50, AND I AGREED. THE 3 ARBORVITAE TREES WERE TRIMMED EXACTLY AS STEVE INSTRUCTED. HE SUBSEQUENTLY ANALYZED THEM HIMSELF AND AGREED THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THEM, BUT NEVER DID. AS STATED IN MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT, STEVE WAS ADVISED OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE BULBS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. HIS INITIAL RESPONSE WAS "IT IS NORMAL FOR SOME OF THEM TO NOT COME UP THE FIRST YEAR; THEY WILL GROW IN NEXT YEAR". WHEN TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT GROW IN THE FOLLOWING SPRING EITHER, HE JUST IGNORED IT. THIS IS A CLASSIC CASE OF A COMPANY UNWILLING TO LIVE UP TO THEIR WARRANTY, AND OFFERING UNFULFILLED PROMISES. WE ARE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR LACK OF ETHICS OR PROFESSIONALISM, AND WE HOPE THAT THIS HELPS OTHER ANGIE'S LIST MEMBERS FROM HAVING A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE.

I HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH SOMEONE AS RUDE AS STEVE. HE YELLS AS A WAY OF DEALING WITH DIFFICULT SITUATIONS. OUR GRASS IS DEAD AROUND ALL THE PLANT BEDS AND ALL OF OUR MULCH IS GONE DO TO HIM WEED WHACKING THE WEEDS IN THE PLANT BEDS AS PART OF HIS 'STANDARD WEEDING'. HE IS GREAT IN THE BEGINNING AND THEN HE DOESN'T STAND BEHIND HIS WORK.

COSMOPOLITAN DOES EVERYTHING FROM LAWN CARE TO COMPLETE LANDSCAPING. WE HAVE USED THEM FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND THEY HAVE DONE WONDERS WITH THE APPEARANCE OF OUR PROPERTY.
