HD Construction

We hired Brian Owens and ABC Construction to perform two tasks prior to having our 1892 Victorian home painted. After presenting an estimate for our approval, he and his crew arrived punctually at the agreed-upon time and replaced a rotted window sill, then ventured into the crawl space beneath the three-season front porch where a joist and the door sill were beyond saving. They replaced the bad wood and in the process strengthened the structure, correcting some deficiencies in the original build (after first explaining the problems and proposing a solution for our approval.) His workers showed remarkable attention to detail and a very encouraging concern for the soundness of the house - just as if they were working on their own home. I could not be more pleased with the cost, punctuality, responsiveness and skill of ABC Construction. In a small town like ours, where tradespersons often fail to return calls, or even to show up for "appointments" when they DO return a call, their professionalism and affordability are a breath of fresh air.

The experience was the worse ever. They first said it would take 30 days, turned into three months. They did not show up for days, then at times only for an hour or two. The contractor made a pricing mistake with the concrete sub contractors and fired them before paying. So, we had to pay the concrete sub contractor for the work performed before being fired above the contract. The contractor also did not pay the sub contractor for the excavating so we had to pay them also above the contract price. The contractor damaged two doors and complained when we demanded them replaced. They also install two garage door openers and now the doors do not open properly. We had to bring in a professional door installer to repair the work they did. The contract also destroyed one of our kitchen wall s damaging an imported item from France. They did not pay attention and when adding the addition their staple gun went through the wall from ceiling to floor shattering the drywall. When confronted they did not fix the wall back to its original state and we ended up fixing and repainting because they did not. They also damaged both garage doors and complained when we demanded that they replace the broken panels. We also had 13 outlets installed in the garage and each and every one was installed without being shimmed up so each outlet was lose, wobbly and not set flush in the wall. We had to repair each one. In the garage we also had several lights installed that the contractor said they would recess, but they did not. After they frame work was up, they did not have enough room to recess the lights, so now they hang down an inch and not flush. They also installed one window that is so cheap. They bought a vertical window and installed it horizontal so the window itself does not slide; it is lose and falls out of the frame. We also had Pergo flooring installed in the utility room and instructed them to run in the same way as the kitchen. They ran it opposite and told family that they did not care what we wanted that it would not turn out right so they ran it opposite without consulting us. Looks horrible and they will not change it unless we pay for more labor. After all that was done, the contractor was totally unprofessional and was caught in several lies and was dishonest. He was verbally abusive to our family and we will never use his services again. Beware anyone that uses this contractor. After paying on the contract, we found that he only buys his supplies with cash because he does not have any credit. Wish we would have known all this before hand.
