The entire experience was horrible. First, they didn't deliver the furniture on the day they were supposed to, which cause a major problem because our new building required that we "reserve" the freight elevator. They kept pushing the date back that the furniture would be delivered. We had to call several times to confirm and re-confirm when they would be coming. At one point, they told us they were going to deliver the furniture one week later than the original date. My husband was sleeping on the hard-wood floors in our apartment at this time, because he had expected to get furniture the day he arrived. They did give us some reimbursement for the delay in getting the furniture, but this turned out to be the least of our problems. They damaged multiple pieces of furniture- we had a one year old bedroom set that has dents and scuffs along all edges of it. They also took a big chunk of wood out of our solid wood bed frame. They ruined our large Samsonite suitcase (frame was bent so you could no longer pull the handle in and out). There were multiple boxes with broken glass, despite the fact that they were packed very well and "fragile" stickers were on all boxes containing glass. But the worst part was that they "lost" 4 boxes. One of these boxes was a large wardrobe box that had all of my formal dresses, work suits and party dresses in it. They also lost a box that contained office supplies (like ink cartridges) and all of my 35 mm negatives from trips taken in the pre-digital era (read: not able to be replaced). They also lost a box from our kitchen that contained all of our spices, some of which were very expensive (like saffron which is $100 for a large bottle). The fourth box was full of clothes and towels. They asked us to complete an itemized report of everything that was missing or damaged. The missing items alone would have cost over $4,000 to replace (and that was just going on memory- I'm sure I forgot about some of the things in each of the boxes). In the end, we got a check for $300. They reimburse based on the weight of a box, not on the contents in the box. All in all, it was a truly horrible experience and I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND MAYFLOWER TO ANYONE.
Description of Work: We paid Mayflower to come and pick up our furniture, and move it from Chicago to Baltimore. We packed our own boxes, but they did the actual moving of the boxes and disassembled the furniture when necessary. They had told us the furniture would be delivered 3 days later at our new place in Baltimore.

They were great and I was really pleased with them. I had an in-home estimate done by one of their staff who was so very close to the actual weight of the move that it was kind of uncanny. That was good because the cost ended up being really close to the estimate. The movers themselves were extremely professional, personable and very thorough, and I appreciated that. All in all, it was a pretty smooth move as far as these things go. The price was interesting because from what I was given to understand, moving inter-state is pretty much the same price if you are using a reputable mover, and so the prices of several providers were around the same.
