They gave me a fair appraisal of the situation and a fair estimate for repairs. We decided not to move forward at tis time, but I will consider them for the job when we do.

Great folks, great/responsive company.
Description of Work: Second time w/ Crack Attack (basement wall cracks, last spring). Widened/deepened existing (very poor condition) sump pit for $400 (+$35 for crete/stone). Installed battery back-up sump-pump for $1000. I had received quotes upwards of $2500, just for the sump pit alone. Matt came out for both quotes (spring and this time).

Spoke to Matt from Crack Attack team to get my basement cracks repaired and also a backup sump pump. Matt came in and gave us a quote for the job and later decided to drop the backup sump pump for now and get the cracks repaired. We had to reschedule the appointment once due to rain and Jason came in to fix the cracks on the day of the appointment. Jason called ahead and showed up on time. He was very helpful and explained the process and got to his work. It took him roughly about an hour and half and cleaned up after the work as well. Based on what I saw and also on conversations they know what they are doing.

The point person on this project was Matthew of Crack Attack, and he was very responsive and professional. He returned my initial phone call quickly, and it was very easy to set up a consultation with him--unfortunately, it turns out that meeting ended up being scheduled on a day when the temperature in Chicago dropped to 16 degrees below zero and my kids had to stay home from school. Even though I called Matthew at almost the last minute to cancel that morning, he was remarkably good-natured about it despite having traveled out from Wheaton to Lincoln Park in the arctic cold, and he kindly rescheduled to accommodate my disrupted schedule. He wins a ton of props for that alone! When we finally did meet a day or so later, Matthew took a thorough look at the property and was able to schedule the work to take place within just two days of our consultation. He also honored the Angie's List discount and took some additional money off for our committing to have the job done within the week. The day the work was scheduled, the whole team arrived right on time, introduced themselves, and got to work promptly. There were a few surprises that came up during the removal of drywall from our 103-year-old foundation, and Matthew and his colleague Jason were great about communicating those issues to me, giving me the opportunity to see the work (even if it meant them being delayed a bit), and offering me options in a few price ranges to solve the problems. The Crack Attack crew did the work efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. About a week later, Jason came back to do some additional work, and he was there right on time when I showed up to meet him. I would definitely recommend Crack Attack!
Description of Work: The Crack Attack team installed a system to remediate a chronic seepage problem in the downstairs (basement level) of our duplex-down. First they removed about 99 feet of existing drywall up to grade level and patched gaps in the 103-year-old stone and brick foundation with sealant. Then they created a trench along the perimeter of the downstairs (where they had removed the drywall) to install drain tile and drainage board, which they routed to a sealed pit with pump that they also installed in our laundry room. Finally they filled the trench that they had dug with concrete. About a week later, they came back to place some water-repellent foam in one area of the basement and did an equally good job on that.

They never called for an appointment after 2 weeks I called them and they then set up an appointment. They were to check 20 different points regarding water proofing as we had water in the basement, the man was there all of 10 minutes, checked a few places in the basement and said it was o.k. and left

Jeff came out and repaired the 3 cracks that I had bought coupons for. He was very knowlegable about the process and did a dnice job of explaining it to me. I asked about another crack and a coupoe of places where we had seepage around a tie end. He gave me a very reasonable quote on the additioanl work and was able to do it immediately. The good news is that we have had several major storms since the repair and there was no leakage from any of Crack Attack's repairs.

During the torrential rains this spring, we got a little seepage from 3 long basement cracks in utility room adjacent to our family room. Although we felt lucky to survive despite our ancient sump pump. We called crack attack for a quote on a new sump pump with battery backup as well as the crack repairs. Not surprisingly, they were busy with all the flooded basements and could not even set up a quote appointment until more than 6 week out. We wisely decided to have a plumber install the new sump pump and had Crack Attack quote the crack repairs 6 weeks later. We just couldn't take the chance with the aged sump pump. They gave us a decent price to seal the cracks and completed the straightforward job a few days later in just a few hours with 2 workers. We were disappointed to still see some seepage at the most troublesome crack, but definitely at a reduced leak rate. While replacing an old gutter extension, which happened to be immediately adjacent to the still seeking crack, we noticed that the extension had a huge hole that dumped copious amounts of water onto a window well next to the crack. After fixing the gutter extension, the basement is now bone dry, even at the worst crack. So the Crack Attack sealing probably helped and was a reasonable thing to do, but the root of the problem was the poor gutter diversion. Lesson: basement water issues should be carefully inspected from both inside and outside (gutters, grading, etc).

This is one of the few firms that truly stands behind their work and warranty. Work started week of Nov 11th (2013) and they finished in two days under cold and sleeting conditions. That weekend, Sunday, it rained heavily and the leak was still there. To their great credit they returned Monday and finished redoing the entire job and a bit more Tuesday completely as a LIFETIME warranty repair. This is grueling work excavating down 7-ft about 2-3 feet wide, brush cleaning the wall, drying it with a torch, applying tar, a cloth, more tar, and finally the water wicking board. The digging was in clay mixed with gravel outside in the cold. One caution for those that have exterior basement wall waterproofing; do not expect the excavated area to look landscaped. The earth removed and backfilled will aerate so you will have a mound of clay where your garden or lawn was. Crack Attack did nicely rake the area. Expect to have the are re-landscaped.

Contact was made with and an appointment was scheduled to have the crack in the house foundation examined and to provide a quote for the repair. This portion of the foundation is actually on a slab. Matthew was very punctual and called to confirm and to see if he could come earlier for our appointment. We agreed on the new time and he showed up as scheduled. After he examined the exterior crack and one on the inside he advised me the 30 year old house was settling due to the drought we've been experiencing. He went on to explain that we should stabilize the house by installing pads and jacks. After asking if I could "budget $15,000 to do the job right" he proceeded to tell me the side of the house needs 14 jacks to stabilize the house. He sounded very convincing and we tentatively agreed on a date to start the work. He was very accommodating scheduling the work on two consecutive Saturdays. He pushed me to sign the work proposal to authorize the work and advised that if I decided not to move forward that all I had to do was to call and tell him and he'd tear up the Accepted Proposal. I did not sign the proposal. Before moving ahead with the work I contacted a structural engineer for their opinion. The engineer came out a few days later and advised me that not only was the house structurally sound and not in any danger but there was no rush to do anything to correct the situation. In fact I could wait "years" before I had to do anything. He advised the issue was almost certainly due to the proximity of a mature tree that's about 6 feet from the house. He advises that due to the drought the tree roots under the slab and because the soil is clay, there is desiccation causing the situation. His recommendation is to remove the tree and not install the shoring. He also advised that providing plenty of water to the tree would likely also stop the situation for several years. Cost for the engineer and if I have the tree removed will be around $2,000. Savings $13,000. Priceless. Get a second opinion before committing!

Matthew arrived as scheduled to provide an estimate and quickly surveyed the work and gave a dollar figure estimate. A couple of days later I received the quote by email. The reason I went with another company was I felt more comfortable with the amount of detail that went into the estimate, work description, and promptness of delivering said estimate from the competing company. In general, the work description and cost was in-line with the work I had done. The decision was simply a comfort level and a bit of a gut feeling based on the 2-day lag between visual estimate and emailed quote.
