I am one who likes to use the same "people" even if the proce may be a little higher. I oknwith paying for good work and service. Have had great experiences until the last. The repair work on the toilet malfunctioned and I informed them. They were going to come out and do the work that day if time or following week. Which, with the work you did and it is leaking I accepted the potential delay in service. Offered me a "service" call not a fix the work that was done call but hey, it's whatever I'd rather get things done they debate. 20 minutes later I was informed they can't do the work, due to the "area" and can no longer do any work for me 🤣.👍 Take care and I hope for the best for your company and employees.

Had an excellent experience with them about a month ago on the installation of a water softener. The only negative was that they didn't not show up on time and there was no communication. The plumber and helper were professional and did a great job. So, I scheduled with them to have a hot water heater installed. Again they didn't show up during the 10-12 window and again no communication. The plumber arrived 2 hours late (not his fault). I live on a steep hill in the country and he had trouble dealing with that. He complained about the drive, how he didn't know how he would get back down, how the helper would get up, etc. I told him that the last guys from his company parked in the drive and had no issues. Showed him the water heater and told him about an issue that needed fixed. He questioned whether I wanted the issue corrected, which was very strange since he is a master plumber and the inflow/outflow was reversed causing the water heater to work incorrectly. What kind of master plumber would install a new water heater that way? I was upstairs talking on the phone to my daughter about these things when he came storming into my living room (no knock, nothing) and said "Is there a problem"? I told him 'no' as I had had no plans to say anything to him until he started attacking me because he eavesdropped on my conversation and was angry. He was still complaining about the road and I said it's always a problem for people who aren't used to driving in the country. He YELLED,"Do you know how long I've lived in the country? DO YOU?" I said, 'No, I don't even know you." He yelled some more about me making assumptions. I said his behavior was unacceptable and I was calling the office. He said he was, too. Ultimately, the people in the office didn't care about anything I had to say, just gave a pro forma apology and cancelled the job. I asked them to talk to the plumber who did a great job for me previously and ask him how I was to work with if they wanted to know the truth of who was the problem in this instance. Very unfortunate because I was very satisfied with the first plumber.

After repairing first job, I asked to check small leak from other faucets. He went out to find parts and spent 40 minutes. Parts were cartridge of faucet(Delta). He charged that too. I asked a similar job to my friend. But I took about an hour(Plumber took 2hr 15 mins)

Do not use Reading and sons plumbing from Peoria, IL. There company is so small they cannot meet their commitments when a single person calls in sick. They improperly installed a water softener for me a couple of years ago requiring them to make repairs on a brand new system. But sadly, I gave them another chance only to have them screw up a simple appointment. And let me tell you how horribly I was treated by the owner when I finally got through to him. He was a complete jerk. Refusing to come and fix things during hours I would be available. Rude and insulting. He even went so far as to insinuate my political affiliation because I refused to be bullied by him. Like that would be any of his business. This is how they treat an elderly, old woman. There are far too many truly reputable companies out there to put up with these incompetent individuals.

This was is an old house that had a leak in the supply lines of the second floor bathroom. They moved a sewer pipe and ran all new supply to the second floor getting rid of most of my old supply pipe in the process. they also had to redo the venting of another sewer line. The job was done to my complete satisfaction, and I would hire them again on any plumbing project I have in the future.

I've used Reading 3 times since buying our house in 2013, and each time their service has been excellent. I've used them to remove a whole-house filter, snake a drain pipe, and today they fixed a shower faucet that wouldn't turn off. They were at my door less than an hour after I called, and the technician was friendly, professional, and had the issue fixed within 15 minutes. There's a reason they have such a high rating on here!

I received the call that they were 30 minutes out over an hour before the appointment time. I left work and waited at home for over an hour before calling and asking where they were. Their dispatch told me that they must've underestimated the work they needed to do at the other job. Finally, after an hour and a half their plumber shows up, takes one look at the drain and tells me he didn't bring the right equipment to do the job, blaming me for not specifying that it was the main line. I don't even know what the main line is, I'm the consumer with a clogged drain. He told me that I'd have to reschedule for the next day. I replied that I couldn't afford to take off another half day of work without pay, nor was it my fault that he came inadequately prepared to do the job. He left, I called their dispatch again and they told me that they'd try to find someone else to come out the same evening and that they'd call right back. After over an hour I called THEM back to inquire about getting someone out that night. They apologized for the inconvenience and said that no one would be able to come out that evening. I had to reschedule, for my one day off in two weeks, and live with a backing up drain for another 2 days. They didn't offer to compensate me in any way or really seem bothered by the fact that they cost me to lose a half a day of wages. Summary, if you don't mind taking unpaid time off of work to sit around and wait for them to eventually show up only to tell you that they didn't bring the proper tools and that you're out of luck, then Reading & Sons are the perfect plumbers for you!

My interaction with the plumber began and ended in under five minutes. After one look at our shower/bath faucet, the plumber said I was wrong when I had tried to report information about the faucet model to his company. He also said there was nothing he could do to help me, except for replacing the whole faucet with identical hardware. After calling the local plumbing supply store that typically has older parts (Nailons), he told me that I was out of luck because they didn't have any of these faucets and that these faucets are no longer made. When I asked him what my options were he flatly said none. He didn't not offer any suggestions of replacing the plumbing with modern plumbing or new hardware. We were prepared to remodel our whole shower if it was necessary to restore function to our faucet, and this company did not even offer us this option. As I was trying to ask him more questions, he opened my front door and stood with one foot out of my house. When I was unsure of what questions I could ask to get his attention, I said 'OK thanks anyway.'

Response from Reading & Son Plumbing Inc
We had two previous service calls attempting to fix your faucet with parts that you provided. When the faucet started dripping again, the next step is to replace the faucet. We will be more than happy to give you a price to replace the faucet. We have to charge the plumber's time, so the plumber knew he was not going to be able to repair or replace the faucet at this visit, so he was trying to keep his time low for you. Please feel free to give our office a call and we can discuss your options. Sincerely, Reading & Son Plumbing, Inc

I live in NM and I was trying to do a nice thing for my daughter and their family by providing them new tall toilets. So I looked at the Angies List for plumbers in Peoria IL and you have Reading & Son Plumbing rated at the top so I got a quote from them. Told them to make an appointment with my daughter. They did not call my daughter so she called them and was put on hold for a long time she hung up and tried later. Put on hold again not as long. They made the appointment one week out. So at the end of the day an hour before they closed they call and cancelled for the next day. They stated they did not have enough men to do the job. My daughter called me and I called them. They said they had emergencies come up that were more important and did not have the man power. I stated you knew this job was coming for over a week and it was for 4 brand new toliets and the lady said we do not have the man power. I stated you should of known this more then a hour before the end of the day before installation. The answer was nothing she did not say one word and I said I am canceling the order and she said nothing so I hung up. Very disappointed but they were not.

I told them over the phone what the problem was, The waterheater was leaking water from under the lid. i had a receipt and invoice of the existing waterheater. I told them the model #, the serial # and the date it was installed. They told me it had a six year warranty and it was only 5 years old. A replacement would be free. They made an appointment for the next day. Later that day they called back and told me it could be today if I wanted. When the plumber arrived later that day, he had the new waterheater in his truck. He took out the old one and installed the new one. He was personable, knowledgeable, organized, , and left the area clean. He charged me for two and a half hours, which seems kind of long to install a waterheater, but he did have to take time to get the new one and dispose of the old one. And, what the heck, the waterheater unit itself was under warranty. And now I have a new one with a new 6 year warranty.

. I had a clog in one of the pipes going to the sewer which made the water to backup. Because it was after hour emergency, I had toleave my phone number. The plumber called back in no time and gathered all the information needed so he can bring the proper tools. HWhen he looked at the problem he quickly identified the clogged pipe and fixed. It took him more than 2 hrs becausre the cabl;e got stuck in the pipes but he only charged me for less what I expected. Great service plus they were able to provide very good recommendation while doing the service

We have a leaking pipe in our front yard. We called Reading & Sons because we got their name off of Angie's List and they had the highest score with the most reviews. Jim came out to give us an estimate (after we had already had the water company come out and indicate that the leak was on our side of the meter) of $800-$1200 to fix the problem. In that first visit, he asked if we had water company insurance, which we didn't even know existed. He told us we could probably go ahead and purchase the insurance and try to wait the leak out as the insurance would cover this kind of issue, but we would have to wait 30 days. After we indicated that wasn't something we were willing to do, he said he was going to have the water company come out and do a re-check of the issue to see if it really was our fault. When he asked how we got his name, we said Angie's List, and he said "I don't even know why I am on that site. I signed up a long time ago and didn't even know I was still there. We have been so busy that I guess I don't need that any more." He left us with the impression that the water company would come out, then we would move forward from there. I got a call a couple days later saying that they hadn't been able to get ahold of the water company (you just call and leave a message and they stop by when they can-there is no "getting ahold of them"). That I could keep trying, but that they (Reading & Son) were busy and going to wait for me to contact the water company and get back with them. He said we could try to do the digging ourselves to see if we could pinpoint the leak. This was Friday-we called the water company and left a message (just like we had the first time). The water company came by Monday and said it was still on our side of the meter and it was our responsibility to fix it. I went ahead and had them turn the water off because the leak had worsened. My husband called Reading & Sons and left a message to that effect. They never called back. I called multiple times to let them know about the fact that the water was turned off, that we needed to schedule a repair, and that we needed to find out payment options (I couldn't pay $1200 at once, but I could split the payment up over two weeks). I spoke with both office girls and kept getting the run around. Supposedly Mike needed to talk to Jim (who was in and out for meetings multiple times that day) to get approval. I called 5 times that day and every time Jim had "just stepped out of the office again before Mike could ask". I finally stopped calling and decided to wait. I was assured that I would have a call back by the end of the day. That call never came. It has now been 4 days since then and the call still hasn't come. We decided to move on to other plumbers and found one that was prompt, returned calls, and the leak will be repaired today for less than what Reading & Sons quoted. I understand being busy, and I understand having to wait until a bill can be paid in full to complete services. However, failing to return calls, even if it was to tell me that they couldn't fix the repair until I could pay in full, is unacceptable. We have been without water at my house for almost a week now. If I was still waiting on Reading & Sons, I am not sure when we would ever get water back. These guys might have been great for others, but common courtesy is lacking. Cannot believe they ever received such high ratings from others.

My sump pump stopped working, and I had an inch of water throughout the entire basement. Couldn't get a cleanup crew until the pump was fixed. Was on a Sunday so had to wait for a call from the tech. Called many other plumbers who did not even return my messages, but he called back right away and left immediately. The former owners left behind a new pump still in the box, so I was able to use that and save $165. Very pleased with the courtesy, professionalism and service provided. Will definitely have them come back to install a new battery backup system.
