When installing a new damper, several inside bricks separated after they drilled the chain damper cord to the inside of the fireplace. After 2 weeks of leaving messages with only James stating he will take care of it. Then heard nothing and a week later spoke to Duke that stated Larry was fired. Another week later Larry answered the phone and went to get James. Beware and stay away as not honest. I had to pay someone else to morter the inside of my fireplace.
Description of Work: Repair the inside of my fireplace where Duke and James installed a new damper that they left bricks broken.

Consult verbal quote was max 2 days, most likely less as there would be 2 workers at the rate of $100.00 per hour (50.00 per person), and consult visit cost was $100.00, but if they were hired then that would be deducted from the final cost. First day he was on time but had to leave right after getting there to go get a helper to load the tile cutter in his van (why he didn't call to say he'd be late due to this instead of driving to the house and then leaving I didn't understand). He showed up with his niece, as she helped him load the cutter, but the rest of the time she did NOT work at all, just sat and amused herself with her cell. Second day he presented alone and this was to grout hearth and install facing. Went fine, a little longer than expected time wise for the work to be done (was less than 4hrs), but ok. The third day he presented alone again, and grouted the facing, which again seemed to take longer than should have for the type of work. When I got the bill for the job it was $1600.00, which was shocking. The fireplace area is less than 14sqft. I called about the bill pricing and not noting a breakdown of the bill itself. I was told the $100.00 consult cost was taken off the top of the bill before an invoice was made. I inquired about the hourly rate and I got a list of excuses: didnt take a break, was hard for him to get up and down from the floor, he had his niece there to help load the cutter and even though she did not work he still needed help getting it in and out of the van (which i could have done had he asked), that he used his own mortar for the hearth and didnt charge me for it (he never said he also required that - in fact he didn't ask for any specific materials and left me feeling all but the tile would be included in the job, and then telling me he fell and developed a concussion at another location.. I felt like he was trying to make me feel sorry for him to justify the pricing. When I brought up the verbal quote of $100.00/hr for 2 workers (as it would have went MUCH faster), and as he stated that his other worker quit and was just him, it left me with the impression it would be $50.00/hr for just him. Apparently not and he did not reiterate the hourly cost would still be the same for just him. He finally agreed to lower the rate to $75.00/hr, which to me is still pricey for the small job it was. I paid it reluctantly, realizing I SHOULD have insisted a WRITTEN quote with a breakdown of cost. I took him at his verbal word as the contract; won't do that again. I have since consulted with other professionals in the area for this same type of job and they ALL stated I was overcharged for the type and size of work. Final Bill = $1200.00 for 2 days total (15.5hrs).
Description of Work: To reface a fireplace and install new hearth tile.

I had trouble venting this wood stove--very little draft. Duke said I need a flue extension and gave me a quote of $600 to do the work. It took a few weeks to get the job scheduled but what a difference it made! Much better draft with much better starting and firing.
Description of Work: Added a 3' extension to my wood burner flue on a very steep roof and added a brace to secure the flue.

If we had it to do over we would have shopped around more before purchasing the first one we saw. We are very pleased with the unit
Description of Work: We were looking for gas log insert for our existing fireplace, they came out and showed us what they sold. Not knowing anything about these systems we decided to purchase the one they suggested would fit our needs. They arrived the appointed time and date after calling and saying they would be an hour late. They were very clean and particular to do a good clean job in our home. In addition to completing the installation of insert, he found another problem that they fixed. We were asked to pay for the job in amount of $3529.00 on day ordered. Then when they installed it they charged another $800 for labor, then 3 weeks later we got a bill for $154 for parts or gas line. I thought the entire cost would have been the initial $3529.00. I wish we had done some more shopping or research as to what this job would cost. I think we could have gotten a better deal. We had to call them back because the face of the fireplace did not fit flush with the stone on the face of the fireplace, one end was stuck out 3 inchs more than the other and the stone need to be cut down to make a proper it. We felt they left satisfied that their work was done, but we did call them back to fix the gap which they did willingly and did not charge us .

The whole process started before Thanksgiving. My wife and I had ordered a grate heater then and a chimney sweep. We were scheduled to have it done on December 23rd. That appointment was cancelled two days before on the 21st. We rescheduled for the 3rd of January. Duke, the chimney sweep, and his assistant arrived to sweep right on time. As they were sweeping I asked Duke about the grate heater. He looked as if I were crazy. He checked his paper work and said he did not know he was supposed to install one. He called the office and they told him the heater had not arrived. At this point it had been almost 8 weeks since paying for this, I was surprised that the heater had not arrived yet. Then Duke informed me that the doors we have would not work with the heater. The guy at the shop had informed me that they would work. This was frustrating, as my wife and I had not anticipated ordering doors. We have since ordered doors and Duke is to come out again and install the heater and doors. The sweep was done well and they were very clean considering the dirt involved in the profession. Overall the techncians were excellent, but the office staff needs to know their product better and communicate more with their customers.
Description of Work: The chimney was swept, a grate heater installed, and door installation.

The representative, Duke, called and informed us shortly before the scheduled appointment time, they would be one or more hours late due to an issue with the previous job. They offered to take off their snowy shoes upon arrival (much appreciated) inspected the system and gave an assessment and helpful operating tips, one to use silicon sand to eliminate flash when lighting and also a different lighting method we would have never thought of ourselves. It was obvious they were experts. I'm no longer nervous about lightening the fireplace like I used to be thanks to Duke and his partner! I did have to specifically ask them to inspect the chimney before they left, but perhaps they thought they were only there to check out the gas system. I would recommend them and will be visiting their shop to pick up supplies for my fireplace.
Description of Work: We had our gas fireplace system and chimney inspected to ensure they were safe to use.

I called them for an estimate due to damaged plaster from a water leak in the kitchen and living room ceiling. They came to the house, were prompt and told me exactly what was wrong. I called and got a second estimate from another chimney repair company who gave the same opinion. Country Hearth and Home came in with the lowest bid around $500. We scheduled the first date, it was cancelled due to rain, made a second date, it was cancelled for scheduling reasons, then made a third date, which was fulfilled. The work was completed; however, my only concern was that he showed up to finish the waterproofing but didn't let me know ahead of time that he was coming that day. I wouldn't know if he even showed up or not. This place has an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau, so one can assume that they are trustworthy. Overall, it was a good experience and to really know if their work was good, only time will tell...like when there is a heavy rainfall. The repair person seemed to be a nice guy and was professional.
Description of Work: tuckpointing, waterproofing, and replaced crown on chimney
