We got several bids to install the flagstone retaining wall around the front 11' x 7' planter bed and to install 160 feet of single layer brick edging along the back planter bed. Jason had just completed installing a paver patio for one of the neighbors and they were very pleased. The quotation that he presented was in line with others and we decided to go ahead with Agriscape. The front planter project was suppose to take one day with 2 guys. On the day of the project, only Jason showed up. While he did a good job, it took twice as long. The quality is very nice and he followed up right away and corrected a major drainage problem that was created. When this work was completed we paid him for this portion of the project. Jason was suppose to located the color of bricks which match the existing brick edging that is prominent throughout the yard. The brick edging was suppose to take one day to install and we were flexible on the installation date. It was not urgent to install and we were flexible with his farming schedule and his schedule with Rainbow Playsets. His coworker showed up at the door one day with two bricks. He said "This is the best that we can match. Please pick one." I showed them to my wife and she rejected both. One was tan and one was blueish. Our bricks were a brownish-red color. Fall turned to Winter and the project was put on hold because of the weather and to give Jason more time to located the correct bricks. Once Spring arrived we locked in the first week of June for installation because it would be after planting season for his farming business. I inquired about the bricks and he still hadn't found them. I decided to go looking for the bricks. The first store that I went to, Illini Brick and Stone, had the bricks. I was informed that it was Uni-lock Brown and it was discontinued but that they had 3 times as many as I needed in stock. I quick called Jason and informed him that I had located bricks for the project. He asked me to secure the bricks because he wouldn't be able to pick them up quick enough. I purchased the bricks and brought them to the project site. I informed jason that I had the bricks and they would be available when he showed up for the installation. One week went after another and he never showed and he never returned any of my phone calls for follow up. Finally in July I left a message on his voicemail to confirm if the project was still a "GO" or not. He sent me a simple email stating, "Find a new contractor." How unprofessional is that. it's clear that he was stringing us along which is surprising since it was such a simple job and would have been very profitable for him. In the end we cut ties with Agriscape and they are no longer welcome to bid on future projects. Since I had the bricks onsite already, I purchased the required mortor and installed them myself. They look great and it was a big cost savings.
