First, it was not our intent to have this project drawn out over several months, from one year to the next. They just never came back after the initial July 2014 visit. In October, my husband reached them, and we were told that they would get it done before winter. This did not happen. Finally, my husband was able to reach them again, and they said that it was getting too cold. They would have to do the work come spring. We were to be one of their first jobs. In April, my husband called and they again returned to finish the job. During the interim of fall and winter, the driveway continued to deteriorate and some serious fissures and cracks developed. After their return and completion of the work, they left. The driveway looks absolutely terrible. I would add pics if I could. I called and expressed my complete dissatisfaction with the work. The woman asked if I had watched them do it. I said "No, do they need supervision?" She responded that they did not; they were professionals and she would have someone call us. Someone called my husband in the next few days, but did not come to our home to view the results of the work. Then, on May 5, 2015, I called again. At my request the "estimator" came to our house and said that the driveway was not done correctly to begin with, that the CA6 rock that we had poured for a foundation when the house was built had not been put down correctly. That is unfortunate; we had the CA6 rock put down per their directions when we built the house 8 years prior. Now what? Our driveway seriously looks like a patchwork quilt with avulsions, fissures, and cracks. I should add that prior to this event, our driveway had been sealed yearly by my husband and at least two other times by this provider. They also poured the initial blacktop. This is why I have given the poor rating noted above.
Description of Work: Our driveway is 200 feet long. We made contact with the provider in July of 2014. At that time, they cut out a patch of bad driveway and refilled it. They also added CA6 rock to a triangular shaped area adjacent to our driveway (approximately 10 foot in length and 4 feet in width). The rock was to prep it to be blacktopped. In late April of 2015, the provider returned to finish the job. They completed the blacktop of the triangle-like addition and resealed the existing driveway.

We had them do a two or three part bid for either doing rocks or asphalt in our driveway and we ended up just getting the rocks. The nice thing about them when they came and did it was they rolled it and prepped it on our hill so they leveled out some areas that had dipped because of drainage so that turned out a whole lot better than somebody just dumping rocks and us having to rake them. I thought they did a good job of bringing in the equipment and getting the job within one day. They were done in one business day without any trouble. They took the time and pressed it and laid it down all evenly. It looked really nice when they got it done and it was driveable. The only drawback was that they were so busy it took them a while to come out and get here, but that was understandable because we knew that going in. It was okay because we were not in a hurry to get it done. I thought their quality was good. They were here when they said they would be here. I was not here when they did it, my husband was, but as far as I know they did a fine job.
Description of Work: We used City Coal & Asphalt to put new rocks in our driveway.

My husband contacted the company in August, & we were sent a bid on Aug 31, which we accepted, because their price was lower than their competitors. Then we waited. As summer drew to an end, my husband was concerned that it would be too cold to lay asphalt, but the company assured us that cold weather was not prohibitive. By the time Nov 23, arrived, we had our fingers crossed that it wasn't too cold. The crew of 6 did a top-notch job of analyzing what needed to be done, and worked together so well, that the driveway was finished by noon. It looks terrific! We've had a couple of rainy days since then, and the drainage is definitely away from the house. We were extremely pleased at how quickly & efficiently the driveway was finished.
Description of Work: We have a large asphalt driveway, with curved edges around a flowerbed. We also had some drainage problems, with rain running toward the garage. The company completely removed a portion of the asphalt in front of the garage, replacing it with asphalt in such a way, as to drain water away from our house. Then, the rest of the driveway was overlaid with 1.5" of asphalt. At one of the curved portions of the driveway, a thicker amount of asphalt was used, to facilitate drainage. As they were finishing the job, my husband asked them to lay a strip of asphalt along the mailbox, as our rural, dead-end road is not well-maintained. They put in a foot wide strip, about 5 ft long... This was not calculated in the original contract, but they did not charge us any extra for it.
