The basement and experience exceeded our expectations. Neighborhood Remodelers thought of small touches and details that we would not have to make the space more usable. They helped us make choices and stay within our budget. The workers worked long hours to finish on time and communication was smooth and easy. All staff we interacted with were friendly, honest and professional. We are very pleased with our basement and spend a lot of time there.
Description of Work: Converted unfinished basement into laundry room, rec./tv room and added a bathroom.

They did absolutely beautiful work and were a pleasure to work with. Every member of the team (from sales staff to foreman to project manager) was available at a moment's notice to discuss issues that arose (as they will inevitably during a complex job). All issues were resolved quickly and equitably. It must be said that they went far and above the call on numerous occasions: for instance, I decided AFTER my floors were stained the choice of my color that I was unhappy w/ the color I chose. They sanded and re-stained the floors at no cost to me. Additionally, when a leak developed in the condo above me, shortly after NR completed their work, they sent out a team of plumbers to help me isolate the problem even though the leak was unrelated to the work in my condo. In sum, I cannot give a higher recommendation. I would hire them again w/out a moment's hesitation.
Description of Work: Neighborhood Remodelers provided a very reasonable (among the lowest) estimate to perform an extremely complicated and time-consuming (two month) remodel job after a flood. In contrast, Samanco declined the job as beyond their ability. Neighborhood Remodelers' work included a very complicated sound-proofing design in both the floor and ceiling, they replaced the hardwood flooring throughout my entire condo (a previously stunning floor looks even better now), took down and replaced (and soundproofed) my living room and bathroom ceiling, and then repainted the entire condo (twice).

They were responsive, professional, friendly, and had great suggestions as for solving my problem. I requested that they work extra hard to minimize dust because I have an infant in the house and they spent extra care in doing so. The requested tidiness and some other intricacies pushed the project to take longer than estimated but the quality and cost made the timing a minor inconvenience. People compliment us on the unique look of the walls all the time! (we had glass panels inserted).
Description of Work: I live in a loft and they closed in two rooms for me.

Work was excellent. Very responsive to concerns. Overall job took longer than expected, however. Complaints from neighbors about working noise very early mornings on holidays. Good clean up. The only big problem was the painter painted over all the wall outlets instead of removing the plates and taping the plugs. This caused me much trouble.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of dated condo. Bathroom gutted to studs, tile floors and walls, entire unit (1800 sq. ft.) painted, wallpaper removed, electric rewiring and lights/fans installed, plumbing moved to owner specs, overall custom job for disabled client.

This company did an excellent job remodeling our bathroom and kitchen. The workers were wonderful and great to work with. They always had at least 2 or more people at my home working on the remodeling on a daily basis and always on time from 8am to 5pm. I would most definitely hire Neighborhood Remodelers again.

The guys who came out to do the work were very easy to work with. The supervisor was very opinionated and was open to listening to what I wanted to have done. I gathered 5 estimates and their price was right in line with the others I received. The ice maker was not originally hooked up to the right water line and I had them come back out to fix that.

OK. Workers were very courteous. Work progressed very slowly. Phone calls or emails were returned but it often seemed I needed to intiate the contact. Communication with the supplier for the fixtures was difficult and there were several mistakes that contributed to the increased time factor. Finishing details were not what I would have wished, for example, the rusty handles on the bathroom window were simply painted over, not sanded or primed or replaced. There was no written blueprint or plan, so questions often came up, like where to put the shower heads or where tiles were supposed to go. A light switch for our bedroom overhead light is in the bathroom (not inside the door, across the room by the vanity) because it was overlooked during the construction.
Description of Work: First floor bathroom in a Chicago bungalow gutted with the exception of the tub. New tile surround, plumbing, dry wall, floor, sink and toilet. Upstairs bathroom gutted, wall moved and walk in closet created. New space had installation of new plumbing, free standing tub, walk in shower, vanity and toilet.

Luke, Mike, & Marek were always on time & very supportive through the entire process. Of the four companies we evaluated, their quote was the most complete & best and they were BY FAR the most put together group, bringing company literature, BBB & Angie's List ratings, and a long list of references to the initial site visit. They hit every milestone noted, completed the project without a single issue, and was right on their estimate. We have already recommended this team to friends & family in the area many times! Due to our size bathroom (9x5 ft), Walter (their sub) worked alone & had a working, roughed in tub for us to bath by Day 3 & was completely finished by Day 9. Walter was an amazing worker- always on time, worked very hard all day long, & always cleaned up after every day. We hope he gets a raise!
Description of Work: Neighborhood Remodelers were outstanding! The price noted includes our purchase of most supplies, such as fixtures, as well as Neighborhood Remodelers labor & material costs. We had our only full bathroom gutted down to the studs, re-insulated, replaced all dry wall, ripped out previous tile floor, repaired sub floor damage, replaced all fixtures including cast iron tub, & replaced two doors. They put in new tile flooring, subway bath tile with decorative glass tile trim, installed new sink/toilet/cast iron tub, new electrical for outlets & lights, installed can lights & fan/light, painted walls & doors.

Absolutely excellent. They were prompt, courteous, careful, and reasonable in their initial estimate. When hired, they scheduled the job quickly. They worked every day until the job was done. They were obliging with some relatively small changes. After they were done they returned to tweak a couple of things I wanted improved without complaint or cost. Of the dozen or so contractors I have hired in the last five years they were in the top two. It was a pleasant and professional relationship, and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to ask them to bid on another job.
Description of Work: Demolition of existing drop ceiling in dining and living room, existing paneling on all those walls, half wall between those two rooms, three windows in living room, all trim in these rooms, and removal of carpet in those rooms. Installation of new drywall on living room ceiling, skim coat on dining room ceiling, and tied the two together. Installation of new quarter/half/quarter window in living room, insulation in all outer walls, replacement of three outlets and adding four news ones, replacement/moving of two light switches and two ceiling fixtures, new drywall, mud, sand, prime, and installation of all new trim.

My wife was scheduled for hip surgery, and we wanted to get grab bars installed prior to the surgery, but we also had other issues to address in the bathrooms. We contacted four firms for quotes. Luke was prompt getting back to us and scheduling our first meeting. He presented materials (brochure, references, awards, sample warranty, license, memberships), introduced us to his company, and looked over the work that we wanted done. His was the first quote we received. There was a walk through where we met Mike the project manager and Marek the subcontractor who would do the work. Neighborhood Remodelers was willing to take our materials list, purchase and deliver the materials and then bill us for them. While I was happy with the entire team, Marek stood out. He was fast, diligent, a craftsman, kept the rest of the house clean, and was an excellent consultant as well. There were numerous details where he suggested better ways to get the work done. Marek was willing to work around our schedule when needed and was punctual and let us know when he was going to arrive. Our original plan was to have one bath done prior to the surgery and then the other later. Neighborhood Remodelers was able to schedule all the work so that it was done a week prior to the surgery. There was one problem; some of the material that I specified showed up with a different finish or color. When that was pointed out, it was corrected quickly. One of the things that made the project seem to work so well, was a contact list that we received at the walk through. It provided phone numbers and email addresses for each person on the team. It kept us in better contact and any issue that came up could be answered quickly. As a result the project went smoothly and progressed quickly.
Description of Work: Work was done on two bathrooms. The first had the shower surround re-anchored, part of the ceiling replaced, grab bars added in shower, faucet and drain replaced, baseboard replaced with tile, exhaust fan replaced, then painted. The second had everything removed including soffet around tub, tub and toilet. New toilet, whirlpool w/ surround, vanity faucet w/ drain, exhaust fan, down lights, grab bars, tile floor and tile baseboard were installed. Existing vanity was re-installed.

I was in the process of buying and rehabbing a 3-flat home that was going to require around $200,000 worth of repairs/upgrades. After finding a handful of general contractors on Angie's List, my due diligence led me to Neighborhood Remodelers (NR). The entire staff was unbelievably prompt and responsive to EVERYTHING that I came to them with (note: I have a tendency to be compulsive and very attentive to detail). Their estimate was absolutely in line (if not better) than the others, and what was more important was that it was obvious that they really cared about the job and that they were going to do a great job with the execution. Luke spent an unbelievable amount of time with me, whether it was on the phone (always picked up his cell phone) or in person, and my only regret is that the project fell through due to circumstances unrelated to Neighborhood Remodelers. Given my experience, I will, without a doubt, recommend them to all of my friends and family. They are a trustworthy family-run business that is doing an outstanding job. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! And cross your fingers that we have the opportunity to work on a project through to completion. Thanks!!!

Working with Neighborhood Remodelers 656 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge (847-318-8444) has truly been a pleasant experience throughout our entire project. In what can easily become a difficult time for any homeowner, it is satisfying to know our basement has been professionally upgraded with very little disruption. We are able to enjoy it now as a great recreation room and it will definitely add to the resale of our home in the future. Each and every one of the Neighborhood Remodelers staff, starting with the office to the entire team of worker's in our home, has treated us with courtesy and professionalism. Luke, the owner, gave us some great ideas for our plans and Mike Cooper, the project manager, checked in often and kept on top things. Casey and Arthur made sure the project was going well and always had someone on the job everyday. They coordinated their talented team of craftsmen: Chester, Czcsik, Fred, Richard and Daniel. When there were questions, as there always are with any project, they worked with us to find creative, yet practical solutions. All were conscientious, on time and made sure to clean up after each day of work. This made our home improvement project run smoothly. They just finished our project today. So we gladly recommend this company to anyone contemplating any home remodeling project.
Description of Work: Remodeled our basement (11" x 17"), including removal of our 1950's knotty pine paneling, installed insulation, dry walled and painted entire area. Added and finished new oak wood tread's on stairway and refininshed railing. Did electric including outlets and recessed lighting. Installed laminate flooring, new doors and tiled window sill's.

Neighborhood Remodelers with the team of Luke, Mike and Paul, were our general contractors who managed everyone else and for 90% of the time, they were able to get things done within the time specified and also minimize efforts on our part. Because this was a huge project but in a home that's 120 years old, it was key that the work be done and done well to restore it's elegance. Paul did a fantastic job "remolding" our dining room where we'd lost the molding to water damage. Luke and Mike were always on top of things in making sure things stayed on schedule. The only delay that occurred was due to the cabinetmaker not being clear on deadlines and facing delays from the manufacturer. And although the design of the cabinets did not turn out to what we expected in a few small (not visible) ways, Luke fought hard to ensure that we received our monies worth and that other arrangements were made to make up for the space lost due to the faulty design. Paul and his crew were patient with me as I changed my mind on the paint colors and also worked with me to ensure that I was happy before moving on to the next part of the house. They worked in phases to allow us use of the house while they worked in a particular area. They were trustworthy, respectful, reliable and the best contractors we could have hired. They had previously built a side porch for us but by giving them this big a project, we realized that we were in good hands. The flood was a painful experience to endure but working with NR made it easier. My hats off to Luke and Mike and especially Paul for all their hardwork. They know that they have become our resident contractors and we look forward to working with them again when my husband builds his wine cellar!
Description of Work: We had a flood in our home over Christmas and as a result, 2 bedrooms upstairs, our dining room and kitchen were completely destroyed and required complete remodeling of those areas. In the process, we found a leak in our side porch roof and then also decided to redo our front foyer and our front porch. All in all the project took over 6 months to complete.

From the very start to completion this job went well. I was particularly impressed with the sales support and project management. Proposals and change orders were delivered quickly and the information was succinct, easy to understand etc... I had a clear idea at project inception of what was and was not included in their bottom line price. Work was completed quickly and was consistent with expectations. The only areas of opportunity I can site would be quicker trash removal (it sat in the backyard for awhile). That said, when NR was notified it was removed within 24 hours. Also, I believe the inset shelving and stairway handrails could have been of higher quality. However, specific materials for these two areas were not discussed at the onset of the job and had I requested something different and/or complained I'm confident it would have been addressed. In order to get the most out of your remodeling experience with NR, organization on the "consumer side" is key. Clear direction on what you are looking for/expectations, selection of materials in a timely manner etc... In the end, this job came in at approximately $40,000 (all in). I am very pleased and will absolutely consider NR for future jobs and would recommend them to friends and Angie's List subscribers.

It went VERY WELL!!! I love what they did. We had four estimates and they were not the lowest, but I really felt Neighborhood Remodelers were the most thorough and they understood what we wanted and what kind of budget we were on. The estimate was 16,900. Everything was spelled out on the contract, and Luke answered every tiny question I had about the contract. The contract also spelled out when payments were due, and they were all related to a certain amount of work being done. For example, we would pay a certain amount when all the drywalling was complete, etc. Before they began, Luke brought a team of maybe five guys to walk through the basement and talk about every little thing we wanted. The guys asked a few questions that I hadn't thought about and gave some good suggestions/options. I asked about a time line, and they felt it would take about a month to complete. They began on a Wednesday, and my husband let them in and walked them around. We set up a system where they had the key to our basement and they would store tools and supplies in our garage, which we would unlock in the morning and lock in the evening. They began promptly every day and left the job cleaned every evening. There was one day after a terrible storm where Art, the project manager (I think) called and asked if it would be okay if they didn't work that day because of flooding. He assured me that it wouldn't affect the finish date. I had no problem with them not working that day at all, because everything was ahead of schedule. If any questions came up, either Mike or Art would call my cell. Many times I can't answer my cell (I'm a teacher) but if it was urgent, they would email me to call them. This worked really well, and they were fabulous at communicating what would be done next and anything I needed to do (like pick out tiles, etc.) As I said before, the estimate was $16,900. Since Luke knew we were really on a budget to get this done, he left a few things as "customer supplied" so we could find deals on some of the items like sinks, faucets, tile, etc. Whenever there would be an extra charge (like we upgraded a door) we would be given a change-order that we would sign to notify us of any extra charges. If we didn't like the price, we didn't have to sign it and we could go a different direction. What I'm saying is that there were no surprise charges at all. We knew exactly what we were spending. They also really worked with us. Mike found us a beautiful remnant of granite for the bar at a price we can't beat. They finished when we wanted them to, and didn't request the last payment until they went through the basement and finished/fixed every little detail. Our basement is so pretty! It is so nice, that I want to get nicer furniture and the rest of our house looks shabby. I'll hire Neighborhood Remodelers for the next job. I am really happy about the job they did, and I recommend them highly!
Description of Work: A gut rehab of our basement. They gutted it down to the studs, drywalled, added an extra room (office), did the electrical, installed lighting, rebuilt the wet bar, added a sink to a sinkless powder room, and reconfigured our laundry room.

After finding Neighborhood Remodelers on Angie?s List I called for an appointment. Luke Rosseland The Project Salesman, called and set up an appointment. Luke arrived on the date and time set. He gave me a brief synopsis of the company and its history. He then listened as I walked him through what I wanted done. I wanted the drywall and insulation inside of the back of my kitchen and den removed and replaced both ceiling and walls. I wanted a crawl space under the back of the house insulated and drywalled. I also wanted 8 new windows and the outside of the rear of the house sided including the upstairs dormer. He made some great suggestions where he thought I could save some money. We made another appointment for him to come out with Bill Ballash, Mike Rosseland, the Project Managers and Peter Walkosz, the Project Foreman. They did the exact measurements and stated that the windows would be ordered and usually take up to 14 days to be delivered. Approximately 10 days later I was contacted by Mike and told that they could start right a way. A three man crew came out and supervised by Peter preformed all the repairs and replacements. The service was excellent and the job turned out fantastic. I could not be any happier. During the course of the work being done I decided on a few changes and with no problems they were done. This company and its staff were a pleasure to work with and I would use them and recommend them time and time again.
