No work was done.
Description of Work: I was looking to have someone just do new kitchen countertops and backsplash for my home. Saw the reviews on Angie's List and got very excited as they are close to my house. Unfortunately the reviews and more importantly, their website appear to be outdated. Even though their website clearly had both full remodel and countertop fabrication and installation as separate services, I called them and they informed me that they ONLY do full renovations. That is their prerogative, but based on the reviews, it appears to be something that they started to do recently. Glad we did not spend time going there based on the reviews and website only to be told that they would not just do our countertops and backsplash.

Response from Masters Kitchen and Bath
Thank you for your review. Masters Kitchen and Bath stopped offering countertops only when we converted our stone and tile shop to a bath showroom three years ago. Countertops are still listed as a service that we provide as are electrical, plumbing, and painting; all parts of a complete remodel. I'm sorry if our website was confusing.

Response from Masters Kitchen and Bath
Ms. [Member Name Removed] messaged me on Friday, 1/20 at 5:12pm, after we closed for the weekend. Nonetheless, I replied at 6:48pm that same evening that I would call on Monday. Ms. [Member Name Removed] provided her phone number on Saturday afternoon, 1/21, but we were extremely busy on Monday and I did not see the email from Angie's List alerting me to a waiting message until late on Tuesday. I'm sorry that Ms. [Member Name Removed] felt that a 4 day delay for my second reply was excessive. I regret losing her business, but I don't believe that the posting of an "F" rating was warranted or reasonable. Ms. [Member Name Removed] also claims that the "Work Completed Date" is 01/26/07 which is untrue. No work was purchased or completed.

We haven't used any of Masters Kitchen and Bath services yet. They said that they couldn't give me an exact quote because they needed an estimate, so I gave myself an estimate and I'm working on that, how much I'm doing with what I'm doing. They left it under my estimation. They're asking me what's your budget and it's close $4,500 and it's on how much I want to spend. They could have told me their cost. They just said how much you have, so I don't know what they quote. I could have $20,000 but I don't want use $20,000. They could have told me for this much this is what it should cost, but they didn't do an estimate. They're asking how much I have and if I say more they would take all the money too, so I don't know and I can't take that type of deal. They responded very good and were a little bit late because of a traffic situation. They were very professional. Right now I'm not going to use them, but maybe in the future.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen and Bath couldn't give me an exact quote and asked me what was my budget for kitchen and bathroom remodeling and cabinet making.

MKB is a full service shop. Thomas came, took measurements, did three designs for us, and then we went to their showroom to select materials and go over the design. He was extremely knowledge and helpful when it came to material selection and design. His guys were always on time, respectful, and very nice to deal with. Work was completed as agreed upon and right on schedule. The work they did was exceptional! He was referred to us by friends and they mentioned they did a good job, but we did not expect them to be as meticulous. Thomas was always following up and keeping us informed. We could not be more satisfied with the quality and the overall finish of the bathroom. We would highly recommend them, and will use them again! Thanks!

They used GPS to locate our rural farmhouse 265 miles from their office and were extremely punctual -- said they would be there at 12:00 and were there exactly at 12:00. Immediately went to work and cleaned up the premises before leaving. They lived at the farmhouse alone for the duration of the job (4 days) and I completely trusted them. The farmhouse kitchen was transformed beautifully.
Description of Work: Removed old linoleum and old thin plywood which had thousands of staples from a 16' square kitchen plus mud room and long hallway in farmhouse. Installed cement board and laid new 12" porcelain tiles.

Generally, we are thrilled with our new kitchen. Tomas and the people who work for him are prompt, work efficiently, keep the mess to a minimum, and perform excellent work. Our new kitchen looks great. First a caveat. You can probably find cheaper alternatives if you are aggressive in shopping around and know enough about kitchen remodeling to negotiate with individual tradesmen and shop diligently for each product you might want . We briefly tried going that route, but were not making much progress. The advantage of going through Tomas is that he is a one stop shop. Once you spend a couple of hours with him, your project is set and you can defer to his expertise in managing the project. The result was that our kitchen was remodeled with minimal inconvenience. He also knows enough about kitchens to make sure every possible issue is discussed. Thus, at least so far, we seem to have avoided making any serious errors in our kitchen design. The cabinets themselves are fine, but unspectacular. We ordered the basic Kemper line that he sells. The drawers are all wood and soft close, but a little small. The shelves are particle board. The doors are wood and look very elegant. The other products, such as the granite, tile, and paint he uses are all top notch and beautiful. The entire project was completed in about four weeks. During that time, Tomas responded promptly to every concern we raised, helped devise solutions to new problems we saw coming, and generally was a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend using Master's Kitchen and would use them again on my next remodeling project.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen remodeled our entire kitchen, including demo, new cabinets, new floors, new counter tops, installing new appliances, replacing our open-in kitchen door with an open-out kitchen door, running a vent to the outside, installing new overhead lights, painting the walls, and installing various accessories.

My husband and I found Masters' methods coupled with its top-drawer, skillful implementation gave us the new and beautiful bathroom we were trying to achieve. We were given a thorough outline of the work that needed to be done based on our input of the improvements we desired to make. We were able to choose from a variety of materials MKB has available. Tomas made helpful suggestions but left final decisions to us. He provided the plan and job estimate and there happened very little change to those. The job was completed expertly and on time by Alin. Alin was polite, working long days but causing no disruption to our daily routine. Equally important, when followup work was needed, it was scheduled and accomplished in a timely manner. Suffice it to say, if we had another job, MKB would do it.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen & Bath virtually gutted and rebuilt our main bathroom and also made updates to our kitchen completing agreed upon changes in areas such as lighting, wall tile, counter fix and renewed wall color.

My wife and I are very pleased with the work of Masters Kitchen and Bath (MKB), specifically Tomas and Alin. We received estimates from a couple of different companies and MKB provided a very competitive estimate and Tomas walked through all of the options, parts and accessories included in the price. Tomas walked us through the entire process very thoroughly and provided insight into what would look best within the price that we were willing to spend. We were able to select from a number of different options for the countertop, accessories (faucet, towel racks, linen closet, etc.), paint and tiles. Again, Tomas provided his insight but allowed us to make the final decision without pressure. After finalizing the plans and specifics, we were thoroughly impressed with the professionalism with which Tomas and Alin completed the project. Tomas kept current on the progress and met with us on a regular basis. During the project, Alin and Tomas encountered a few minor obstacles unknown until the walls were knocked down and Tomas kept us aware of any and all changes that were required, which we appreciated. We found that we had to replace old pipes, which slightly increased the cost. However, before Tomas proceeded, he discussed this with us and we agreed that the pipes had to be replaced, so we were okay with the increased cost. Alin maintained a very neat and tidy workspaces and cleaned up after himself at the end of each day. The workmanship and quality of the remodel were exceptional and we would certainly recommend MKB to anyone. We had agreed that the work had to be completed by 12/23/11 and it was done on time. We were slightly nervous with the timeline because Tomas informed us that they had to push our start date back by one week, but, as we said, the project was done on time and Alin did not rush the project and he certainly didn't compromise any quality. We are very happy with our selection of MKB.
Description of Work: Tomas and Alin of Masters Kitchen and Bath provided sketches, drawings and suggestions as to how we could best remodel our existing guest bathroom. They then completed the work to those specifications, with a necessary adjustment due to an unforeseen obstacle found during the remodel.

When we first met Tomas we were impressed from the start. He had many good ideas and was very straightforward with us about what would and would not work.We had 3 other estimates but we were sold on Tomas from the start! We saw drawings of our kitchen plan from a computer program-it really helped to see our ideas in print. We did not want to start for a few months but Tomas called us when he saw our cabinets were on sale...we were able to store them in our garage until the start date and save alot of money-thanks for looking out for us Tomas!! Tomas told us the remodel would take 3 weeks....and it took 3 weeks!! His worker,Igor, was an extremely hard worker. He also was a great problem solver when small issues came up.The attention to detail was wonderful. We could not be happier with every aspect of our kitchen. We always heard horror stories about kitchen remodels-we can honestly say we do not have one complaint! MKB is a very professional and reliable company. Our kitchen is absolutely beautiful and we would be happy to recommend MKB and Tomas to anyone interested in a remodel.

Our experience was great overall. While we did sign-off on initial specifications at the start of the project, Tomas was very interactive and flexible as some of our ideas and tastes shifted as the work progressed. We were able to make a few adjustments to what we wanted as the work began to take shape without any problems or unexpected/unreasonable costs. In my opinion Tomas was always very straightforward and honest, which made him a pleasure to deal with. He offered helpful advice and suggestions when solicited and accommodated our preferences at all points. He was also flexible with the work schedule when we needed to rearrange certain aspects of the job and overall timing. Tomas' workers were also great and represented his company well. They were courteous and efficient and shared their advice when I needed it. I would recommend Masters Kitchen & Bath without hesitation.
Description of Work: We had our guest and master bathrooms fully remodeled. We also had the master bath made en-suite by closing the bathroom off from the hallway and opening it up to the master bedroom. Finally, we had a closet built into the master bedroom.

Mr. Tomas did a wonderful job. He came to see what we had in mind for our remodel. Then, Mr. Tomas provided a plan of what we were looking to do. After an agreement was reached, his workers came the next available day to begin the removing of the old cabinets and island. Mr. Tomas's worker was very hard working and nice. Mr. Tomas came to check on the project on several occasions. Masters Kitchen and Bath was able to complete our job within a few days. We are very satisfied with their work. .
Description of Work: Mr. Tomas installed new cabinets, an island and counter top space. He also installed a new area for our microwave oven.

From day one Masters Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding and thorough job. Tomas met with both my wife and me to assess our needs. He gave us several different plans/ideas of the remodel job. He clearly answered all of our questions and everything was clear and consistent throughout the whole process. Attention to detail was a huge plus. All of the workers were very kind, respectable, courteous and definitely hard working. It is evident that Tomas owns and leads a very professional company. Tomas is also very knowledgeable about kitchen remodeling. There were no surprises. We enjoy each and every moment of our new kitchen and dining room. I highly recommend him to do work on your kitchen and/or bath!
Description of Work: We had Masters Kitchen & Bath do a complete kitchen remodel. We had them knock down a wall to open up the kitchen and dining room. Where the wall once was we had them install an island/breakfast table with a granite counter top. Likewise, granite counter top space was installed throughout the kitchen. Also, a new sink and dishwasher was installed. Masters Kitchen & Bath brand cabinets were installed. New ceiling lighting and LED under lights were also installed. Finally, a new kitchen and dining room floor was installed.

The work was done thoroughly and with great care. The eye for the smallest detail was always taken into account. Tomas was willing to work within our budget but also insisted on doing the job the right way. When I suggested tiling over the old floor he insisted this was not the proper way to do the job. His demand for quality was important to us.
Description of Work: The bathroom was totally remodeled, new walls, shower, tile, paint. The ground up!!!! Also changed the direction of the laundry chute for more room in the bathroom. The workman on this (Igor) was a highly skilled craftsman who was diligent and consistently punctual for the three week he worked on the job. Even our barking dog got use to his presence.

He was very patient with us, as we took quite a long time before committing to the project. He went through each step of the project. told us exactly what to expect and delivered on every aspect. The entire project took less than 4 weeks! We couldn't believe it. Every time we walk in to the kitchen we are thrilled with results. Any time we called with questions or concerns, he got back to us immediately. They were amazingly efficient and caused very little disruption. I would highly recommend Masters kitchen & Bath if you're considering a remodel. My only regret is that we did not find them sooner.
Description of Work: Great work. on budget, and finished early! We did an complete kitchen remodel. New cabinets, counter tops, lighting, appliances, the works. We could not have been happier with Thomas and his team. We got 4 different estimates and after talking with Thomas it was clear that Masters Kitchen & Bath were the ones. They have a beautiful show room in Park Ridge.

The first appointment I made with MK&B, J. Thomas came to the house and I was in bad shape. I was sick, had two sick kids and completely forgot about our appointment (sorry!!!). He said no problem and rescheduled. He returned at the rescheduled time and took down measurements and talked to us about what we wanted. We weren't 100% certain what we wanted, but we gave him a general idea. He then created four different potential kitchens for us to view (and would have designed more if we didn't like one of those options) in an awesome 3-D computer program. We loved one of his designs and so we went with it. We signed our contract and went back to the showroom to choose our items, and he really helped us with choosing quality, affordable and pretty pieces that look absolutely beautiful in our kitchen today. We discussed potential problems that may arise as they demo'ed the old kitchen (hidden plumbing/ hidden electrical work, etc.) and what things might cost if they did come up so that we could mitigate potentially expensive surprises. Masters started the exact day we scheduled for and worked for exactly the number of days he budgeted for, so no misleading or surprise work came up at all. He explained in detail what the workers would be doing each week (even what they'd be doing roughly each day). One surprise did come up (which we talked about during our pre-construction conversations), which was that the wall that came down happened to be a load-bearing wall, which meant they'd have to create a support beam to replace the wall. He even discounted the cost of the beam because it was a number we didn't expect to hear. He cares a great deal about the quality of his work as well as the quality of the business relationship between himself and his clients (us) and so he made it very easy to deal with a potential tough blow to our budget. The end product is beautiful, and absolute quality. We have a narrow doorway from the kitchen to our bathroom/bedrooms, and so he even made one of the cabinets removable so we can move furniture in /out with ease and without worrying about scratching cabinets. He also said that he'd seal the cabinet back to the wall if/when we do need to remove it, so not to worry about that in the future. His main guy, Alan, was always very nice and very helpful (we had a flood in our basement during construction and he was kind enough to empty our dehumidifier a few times for us). He had a nice group of people come and clean after construction (surprising to me that MK&B didn't leave me a huge mess to clean up after our kitchen demo!) as well. There have been one or two very minor things that he has needed to send someone back for (an adjustment on the drawer, some re-paint on the steps), and he is always very prompt about sending Alan back out and has never had one issue doing so. The price was good - certainly very fair - but with a kitchen remodel, a customer would always rather it be cheaper. =) All-in-all a hugely pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Master's helped with designing our new kitchen, helping us choose cabinets/countertops/backsplash/flooring that went well together and were in our price range. They completely gutted our old kitchen: ripped out the floors, tiles on walls, sofit, and tore down a dividing wall between kitchen and dining room. They covered a ceiling vent and ran new venting material to our new microwave/hood vent, they laid all new flooring, drywall, plumbing, cut and installed custom cabinets, countertops and back splash, installed new appliances and painted. They also had a company come in to clean up when the work was complete.

We first called Masters Kitchen and Bath when we received their information from a home show. Tomas was able to meet with us soon after our first phone call. His showroom was available for ideas, plus suggestions and ideas were given from the owner. He also listened to our needs and came up with a final plan. When giving a quote we were able to see what the finished product would look like on a computer program. We had used this company in 2010 to completely remodel our kitcehn and had no reservations to use them for our bathroom project. Both projects came in as quoted. Thomas, the owner, communicated with us and his employees in a very timely manner. If we had any qestions or concerns Tomas would reply and resolve them immediately. All employees always showed up as scheduled and worked tirelessly every day until all work was completed to their and our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen and Bath removed and replaced our bathtub, walls, floors, sink, vanity, countertop, mirrors, lighting, fan and window, They removed and replaced wall and floor tiles. A single sink was replaced with a double sink, mirrors and lights. In 2010 they completed remodeled our kitchen, but removing and replacing our kitchen counter, cabinets, sink, and floor.

WE DECIDED TO UP DATE AN OLDER BATHROOM. WE WENT TO THE HISTORICAL BUNGALOW SHOW AND LEFT OUR NAME WITH A HOME IMPROVEMENT NETWORK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WE RECEIVED THREE PHONE CALLS AND MADE APPOINTMENTS WITH EACH VENDOR. MR. J. HE PRESENTED HIS THOUGHTS AND IDEAS, UTIZILED SOME COMPUTER EXHIBITS. WE CONTINUED TO DISCUSS THE PROJECT, MADE MATERIAL SELECTIONS SO A QUOTE WAS COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO US. THE QUOTE WAS APPROVED AND A DATE TO BEGIN WAS ESTABLISHED, ON THE DAY DECIDED MR. TOMAS AND HIS CRAFTSMAN SHOWED UP AT THE AGREED TIME. HE REVIEWED THE PROJECT AND WORK WAS BEGUN. DURING THE PROJECT THE CRAFTSMAN WAS EXCELLENT AND MR. TOMAS STOPPED BY ON A REGULAR BASIS TO REVIEW THE JOB AND DISCUSS ANY CHANGES OR WHATEVER NEEDED OUR DECISION. ALL THRU THE PROJECT ALL AROUND COMMUNICATION WAS EXCELLENT, QUALITY MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS WERE PROVIDED AND THE WORK PERFORMED WAS EXCELLENT. THE PROJECT CAME IN AS QUOTED AND ON TIME. WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND ARE VERY VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESULT. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECCOMMEND MASTER KITHCEN & BATH AND MR.TOMAS AND HIS EMPLOYEE TO ANYONE.

Overall I was very please with the turn-around time from order to installation date being only a few weeks as well as the experience and cleanliness of the installers. I was able to comfortably negotiate a reasonable price in a friendly manner with no pressure. I liked that Tomas, the owner, is very much involved from beginning to end and that he even spent evenings visiting my home to go over CAD drawings and various kitchen layout concepts using differnt types of cabinets. He was very detailed oriented, explained which types of cabinets would work and told me what to expect throughout the project. In addition to reviewing samples at his newly remodeled storefront in downtown Park Ridge, I appreciated that I was able to go with him to the granite warehouse to choose the counter tops. It was a great experience without any issues. I look forward to using Masters for my next project which will be to add a wet bar to my kitchen area. Many thanks to Tomas and Masters Kitchen & Bath!
Description of Work: I had Masters install new kitchen cabinets with stone counter tops which included an island. I also had bathroom vanities along with stone tops and poceline bowls installed in the master bath. The installers also installed my kitchen and bath sink faucets and connected the plumbing for no extra charge.

When we decided to redo our bathrooms we went to an agency that finds contractors for you. We are new home owners and have learned some hard lessons going with the 'cheap guy'. For the bathrooms we decided to take a different approach and go with the guy who showed the most committment to quality, appeared the hungriest, and in general gave us the best vibe. Of the people that came over, Tomas was the most professional. This impression was confirmed when we visited him in his showroom. He advised us on design issues and was extremely helpful guiding us through the process of selecting the fixtures. My wife and I walking into Home Depot knowing what we knew (and not knowing what we did not know) were paralyzed by the choice, so his help was appreciated. We chose Tomas, in spite of a price that was somewhat high by our standards (these standards can vary customer to customer, of course). Alin was assigned our job, and he was also extremely professional. We were comfortable giving him the keys to our house and leaving him to his work for several weeks. There was a lot of work to be done so of course we ran into a couple of issues, but Tomas was always quick to respond. We did not choose Tomas because of the price, and we found ourselves talking about money quite a bit during the process. However, among the contractors we met with he wanted our business, he demonstrated his committment to our satisfaction, and he was a professional. A) We are happy with the work - we have improved our bathrooms by decades to get them into the present-day B) We would recommend Tomas to our friends C) We feel we can call Tomas any time if we have questions or problems.
Description of Work: Remodeling of two functional but extremely dated bathrooms. We removed all fixtures and surfaces (tile, wall) for a full do-over. The footprints of the rooms remained the same (no walls moved, major plumbing stayed in the same place).

We were very nervous to contract this work to anyone and didn't have many friends who had a good referral. We attended a home improvement show in the area and registered with a Home Improvement network where they provided 3 contractors for us to choose. Three contractors came to the house, spent 1-2 hours talking through the design, taking measurements, etc. One contractor asked if we signed the contract that night he'd give us a discount; we said no; he said he'd be in touch within the week; we never heard from him. Another contractor actually did show us a design but we were not happy with it or the price. Tomas went above & beyond the other two contractors in his designs/plans and budgets. He provided 4 different designs and budgets. Most important is that the designs reflected he listened to our ideas, wants, and needs. We had a limited space to work with in our kitchen and needed counter and storage space. One design was perfect. We replaced all cabinets & floors, moved/added plumbing and electric, and painted. The crew was very polite and courteous. The project stayed on plan and completed as expected. We actually were amazed at how quickly everything took place. The only increase in costs were variable expenses that Tomas had told us about up front. At the end of the day, we are extremely happy with our new kitchen and know our money was well spent.

Tomas and his crew were courteous and professional at all times, never leaving a mess at the work site. They did a great job with design and execution of our complete kitchen remodel. Even with unforeseen issues, Tomas was open and hones with our options. Tomas kept us updated with the status of things and returned my phone calls in a prompt and professional manner. The project was complete on time and as promised. Great Job!

Overall everything went well. The company started and finished on time. The price and finish date didn't change like they did with many other contractors I had. Everything went so well that we are having them finish another bathroom here in a few weeks.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen & Bath helped us finish nearly most of our house. The first project they did was our master bath. They did everything from drywall on. They did a beautiful job with the Travertine tile and Marble counter. They did such a good job that once our first floor was ready we had them finish that space off too. They did the drywall, hardwood floors, new stair case, and the entire kitchen.

I really love this company. I had such a great experience. I would definitley use them again and have already recommended them to family and friends. They are super professional and anytime that Tomas said he was going to do something he did it. He is a great designer on top. He truley had a a picture of what my kitchen was going to look like and I could tell that he really put a lot of time into creating a design that that would not only look very modern, but serve as a functional piece as well. I ALWAYS get compliments on my kitchen and I always get a huge smile on my face because I know I got what I paid for. He did everything from cabinets, to granite, to plumbing work, electrical work, painting, and all turned out wonderful. I would use him over and over and recommend him anyone and EVERYONE!
Description of Work: Tomas installed a new kitchen in my mouse including cabinets, granite, lighting, painting, lighting under cabinets, electricl and plumbing work.
