Our kitchen still had the original cabinets that were still in good shape but didn't provide ample space so we decided to update the area. When I began looking for a company that did kitchen remodels I came across Masters Kitchen and Bath and was impressed with the rating they have received along with the glowing reviews that were written by former customers. From the initial visit to the final walk through I have been very pleased not only with their professionalism but with the eye to detail. I have finally got my dream kitchen and enjoy entertaining in it. I look forward to having them remodel our master bath in the future.
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen and Bath remodeled our kitchen taking it from drab to gorgeous.
Marc came to the house to find out what we wanted done and to take measurements and pictures. He then sent me an email with a kitchen layout. We then made an appointment to go to the showroom to pick out all the materials, like the cabinets, counter top, floor, back splash, sink, faucet and cabinet handles. This was one thing I liked about dealing with MKB, we went to one place to pick everything out and we didn't have to waste time shopping around. Once we picked everything out Angel, the computer design guy, put everything in the computer, and there was the kitchen, exact color of everything. Marc drew up the contract, it was a bit pricey at first, but we did pick out really good materials. We asked if at the end will there be extras added, saying we owed more money, Marc said absolutely not. After reading the contract I did not want the listed pine trim and paint, but Marc verbally agreed that he would have his guys put up the trim we have in the rest of the house, which is oak. We were told it would take 5-6 weeks. We signed the contract. At the start of the project, there was only one carpenter working at our house, Petar. Petar is an excellent carpenter, he worked slow, but he takes pride in his work, so everything he did was perfect. We have 3 large dogs, Petar always called when he came and when he needed to leave, to ensure the dogs were in the house, and he didn't do anything that would rile them up. He always closed and locked the gate behind him. We knew our floor was slanted, but Petar discovered it also had a dip in it. He stripped the entire floor and sub floor and had to cut strips in order to level the floor. That took a while to complete, so I knew that would add an extra week to finish. I also reminded Marc about our verbal agreement on the trim, he honored the agreement and stuck to it, even when Petar told him how much the trim would cost. The floor I picked was the ceramic slabs that look like wood. Laying those tiles took Petar a long time, so that added some more time on. Petar was finished at the end of 9 weeks. It took longer then anticipated, but I love my kitchen, I love the work Petar did. There was only one thing I was not happy with, that was the granite fabricators. What should have only taken 2 visits took 6. They came to measure, then they came to install. When they left, at the seam of two slabs there was a lip. They had to be called back. They had to ask me what I wanted done, when they finally returned. After sanding it down they left tape over the area, so I didn't get to see it until a day later, when the tape came off it was completely dull. They were sent back to polish it. Let's just say it is much better, but not perfect. I am completely satisfied with everything else. Anytime I called or emailed Marc, he responded very quickly. I have dealt with a few contractors in my years, and I have to say this would be the first time I would recommend MKB and I would also do business with them again. If I get my bathroom done I will definitely Call MKB to do the bathroom, and I would ask for Petar. I gave Price a B, only because it was more then our budget, but my kitchen was worth every penny. Also Marc kept his word, we would only pay the price on the contract, and that is what we paid. We were also given a 5 year warranty, which I have never seen a contractor give.

Everything went perfect and on time as it was supposed to! Marc, the general manager, was great to work with. We met him first and he really was one of the main reasons we decided to go with Masters. Angel, the designer, had great ideas and was always willing to meet with us whenever and wherever was required. He was brilliant! Alex, the person who actually did the work, was on time every day and went quickly and quietly about his work leaving my home as clean as possible each day when he left. He was excellent and did a beautiful job. He is truly a craftsman. What more can I say...other than we are as happy as larks with our remodel!
Description of Work: Masters renovated our kitchen ... from a tired old cramped kitchen, they turned it into a beautiful new kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space.
Masters Kitchen and Bath did our two bathrooms before and when the time came to remodel the basement they were the obvious choice. What we love the most about MKB is that it is a one stop shop for everything we needed. We did a number of design/layout sessions with Marc and Angel to come up with what worked best for us. There was no sales pressure to get the contract signed, and they took their time to make sure we are getting what we want. The best part is that the crew is the same from start to finish. They are very polite, courteous, easy to communicate with, clean up after themselves, and you do not have to worry about leaving them by themselves. The basement was a complete gut with all new layout/design, electrical, plumbing, walls, insulation, flooring for bathroom and bar. We even threw in a few changes during the project, and they were happy to oblige. Usually you try to find something to complain about, but these guys were awesome. We could not be happier with the way it turned out. At the end of the project Marc came back and did a walk-through with us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We did find a few spots in the bathroom where the grout was not applied completely and the guys were back the next day to fix it. All in all an exceptional experience. We love our basement! Highly recommended.

We have all heard horror stories about the relationships between contractors and clients. This story is not one of those. We waited nearly 10 years to completely overhaul the kitchen and enclosed porch/room on our 1924 bungalow. Finally last year, we decided to pull the trigger. We are so very glad we did, specifically with Masters Kitchen and Bath (MKB). Here's our tale of joy. We interviewed three different design/build contractors. Only MKB authentically demonstrated they listened to our needs for this decrepet kictchen and the back room. Although the price was higher than the others, we felt the attention to detail and committment to quality materials was completely apparent from our first meeting with Marc and Angel. We committed after two sessions with them ... once with me and another time to ensure my husband was comfortable. The 3D renderings were really helpful to a visual person like me. As we evolved the design, Angel was able to make the space(s) come to life, which helped to build confidence in their design and plan and the materials they planned to use. We committed in July and work began during the second week of September. Pietr was our installer and was incredibly competent, clean, thoughtful and 100% committed to quality. He worked on the kitchen, which was torn out to the slats (this house is old), completely overhauled the electrical and lighting design; moved appliance hookups; installed the new floor (the original floor we determined could not be saved); installed floor to ceiling cabinets (including under cabinent and in cabinet lighting), new quartz countertops and travertine backsplashes; reinstalled all appliances plus a new hood and painted. And that was just the kitchen. Then Pietr moved to the back room, which was torn out to the studs and bifurcated to make a mud room and separate walk in closet. The entire space was gutted as new insulation, framing and drywall were installed; a new exterior door replaced the old slideing door; the rooms were painted and closets installed in the mudroom; and the porcelain tile floors were laid down. Overall the kitchen was finished by Thanksgiving 2014. The back two rooms were finished by the second week of December 2014. We could not be more pleased and thrilled by the professional workmanship, attention and committment to detail and quality. Working with MKB is proof positive of the old adage goes, "You get what you pay for." I could not recommend Marc, Angel, Pietr and the entire team at Masters Kitchen and Bath more highly.

I have to be honest, I did not like Marc when we first met. All the other contractors we met with asked what we wanted and we told them. We wanted a walk in pantry and possibly to remove a wall in the kitchen. Then we wanted new cabinets, counter tops, lighting, etc. We had even hired an architect to make a plan for us and it was mostly finished when I had met Marc. Marc did ask want I wanted, but then suggested a few things and tried to change my mind on others. I have to admit that I was less than receptive to the suggestions. He had said that a walk in pantry was a waste of space and that several other pieces of the plan we had were not designed well. He told me that if I wanted he would measure our place and then I could come out and see what his certified kitchen desinger Angel could whip up. No obligation. I convinced my wife to at least see what they were offering and we drove out to the showroom. They had a three-dimensional rendering there that really improved on the space, was well designed and totally improved on ideas that we had in a unique and very stylish way. We were blown away. The price was the most expensive of all the people that we had talked to. There also wasn't any wiggle room or haggling, the price was the price. We decided that this was the best plan, we paid up front costs and they gave us a tentative start date. They said that the project would take six weeks. We called about a month out and they said that some things were running behind and they thought that it might be starting two weeks late (mid November). Later that month they called again, said that they were finishing things a little early and could they start the first week in November, and that is when they started. The project progressed very well. The person who did they day to day work, Igor, was meticulous, hardworking and very polite. They worked with my condo association to schedule the cabinets and they removed the garbage every day because we can't throw it in the condo garbage. They worked with the building supervisor and Igor was very professional. The Job was finished on December 18th, Which is a few days ahead of schedule and it might have been a little earlier if the hood was delivered on the correct day. We could not be more pleased with the work by this company and will recommend them to anyone who asks. In fact, when we redo our bath they will be the first company we call. I put together two videos that have a quazi timelapse of the work so you can see the construction. http://youtu.be/j1-N4SnuH7c http://youtu.be/9E8fMAv-0bc

Workman, Alex, was reliable, pleasant, professional and completely competent. Results are totally functional and look great!
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel Tore out leaking shower unit, put in new tiled shower with heavy glass door, and repaired and repainted ceiling area of the room under the leaking shower, and made necessary plumbing repairs. New cabinets, sink, quartz counter top, medicine cabinet, fixtures, mirror, heat-vent unit and associated wall repair/ drywall replacement. New tile on wall around bath. Repainted entire room.
Everyone we dealt with was very professional, friendly, and helpful. Mark did a great job of walking us through the whole process. He came to the house, took pictures, and did measurements. A few days later we then went to the office where Angel, the designer, and Marc showed us their proposed design. We made a few changes in choice of cabinet door types. We were then able to pick out EVERYTHING in their showroom -- style of cabinets, flooring, counter tops, sink, faucet, cabinet handles and back splash. Since we were total novices in kitchen remodeling, Marc had to educate us about things like back splashes, granite and quartz counter and different grades of stainless steel sinks. We finished picking things out, settling on the details of the design and reviewing the contract in less than two hours. We had to wait several weeks for the cabinets to arrive and to get the required permit from the city. Marc had told us it would take 4 to 6 weeks start to finish. It took a few days longer than that, but this was hardly surprising since this was a remodel of a kitchen in an 84 year old house and the electric and plumbing required considerable work. Igor did the actual work from stripping the kitchen down to the studs, redoing the wiring and plumbing, laying the floor, replacing, plastering and painting walls, hanging the cabinets and installing the under the cabinet lights and the tile back splash. The only things that required other workmen was the installation of the quartz counter tops and some additional plumbing work that we contracted to have done while the kitchen walls were opened up. Igor is truly a master craftsman who takes great pride in his work. Everything was cleaned up when he left t the end of the day and all the work was done just so. The handles all lined up exactly as did the cabinet doors. A friend told me I should have a punch list, but we have found no problems at all. The thing we most appreciated at first was how beautiful it all looked and that everything went well together (since we were the ones who picked it all out). Of course, Mark pointed out that he wouldn't have let us choose things that we would later regret. On top of that, the longer we are in the kitchen the more we like it. The new design of the room has made it feel 50% bigger. Before it was extremely difficult to load the dishwasher while someone else was cooking. Before we had 4 counter top work spaces but really less more like two because of a microwave and so on taking up space. Now we have 6 different counter top areas, all of which can be used. We are delighted with out new kitchen and would not hesitate to recommend Masters Kitchen and Bath to our friends and neighbors. We plan to use them next year to remodel the master bath.

Masters Kitchen and Bath provided excellent consultation and service throughout the whole process of purchasing and construction of our new kitchen. Mark, the general manager always lived up to his company's promises and resolved all minor speed bumps that occur during any construction project. He was a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend doing business with him and his company. Angel, the designer, provided excellent design work to maximize the space and functionality of our small galley eat in kitchen. Alex, our construction specialist, was an old world artisan that transformed Angel's plan into a true work of functional beauty. He was always on time, kept a neat job site and worked with us to have as minimal impact on our family during the construction. The job was completed with our complete satisfaction, within our budget constraints and time agreed. Again, I would highly recommend this team for any kitchen remodel.

Overall, the process went very well. I originally visited their showroom just look at granite selections for the kitchen remodel and maybe get some ideas. In talking to Marc Weiss, the sales manager I was just very impressed with the suggestions and ideas that he had without even seeing the project. He was informative and helpful, but never tried to oversell me on anything. After talking about some of the ideas and wants that I had, Marc came to the house to measure the areas to be worked on. In less than 24 hours he had a complete proposal, along with graphics and all the job specifications. He had included all of my must haves as well as many unique, useful ideas. I liked the fact that they offered a complete package of the job - wood floors, slate floors, cabinets, and hardware, granite counter tops and back splash selections for both the kitchen and bathroom. Along with this, having all of their own carpenters and licensed contractors helped to make the job flow smoothly without a lot of interruptions. The whole job did take longer than I was originally lead to believe, but in fairness, you never know what situations might come up when remodeling a 30 year old condo. Everyone from the company owner, Tomas to Marc to the carpenters Marko and Alex, as well as the electrician, the floor layers and the granite installers were all very professional, on time everyday and explained each process as we went along. Either Tomas or Marc stopped by almost everyday to review the project and be sure that any questions were answered. There were a few items that needed followup afterwards, but any time I called, they responded quickly and fixed the problem right away. (Even when I called thinking I had no water in the shower - I had forgotten that both knobs had to be pulled - they came immediately and made sure everything was ok.) So, I'd say overall I'm very happy with Masters Kitchen and Bath. Should the opportunity arise, I would definitely call them again.

The folks at Masters Kitchen & Bath were very helpful in explaining the process and talking through all the considerations we'd need to keep in mind with a kitchen remodel. They had someone out to take measurements then we met in their showroom/office to see a design concept. We also went next door to a flooring shop to look at tile and wood samples. We didn't end up going with Masters because of the price.

They had a large selection of materials to pick from especially in the quartz at their showroom in Park Ridge. They also have sinks and faucets at the showroom. I purchased the new sink from them along with the counters but once they install the new sink you have to supply your own sink cups/drains. They also will not do any plumbing so you have to hire some else for the new sink and faucet hook up, which they tell you ahead of time. I was very pleased with the work performed. One glitch came up after they were done with the job and left I realized that they did not haul away the old counters and left them on my driveway. After calling Masters they got a hold of the two man crew who then returned and removed the old debris which they were supposed to do before they left.. Masters apologized for the error. Very pleased with the new quartz counters. I had a lot of counter surface to replace including an island and backsplash.

Igor was responsible for the demolition and installation of our new kitchen. He was wonderful to work with - not only was he a master craftsman, but he also had a keen eye that assisted us with decisions in the field. This included floor pattern orientation, color combinations, location of outlets, etc. Igor was fabulous! MKB was very accommodating to our needs, special requests and change orders. We had a drop dead completion date to move in and they worked hard to meet the date. We are planning to redo our bathrooms in the near future and will give MKB the opportunity to help us with that project too.
Description of Work: We completely gutted a large kitchen and the butler's pantry of an existing house we purchased. MKB helped on our vision and then installed a new kitchen which included cabinets, floors, granite countertops and installation of all appliances.

We received 3 bids from Angie's List providers, and Masters was the most competitive and provided the best warranty on labor- 5 years vs. 1 year from the others. In addition, Masters promised the work would be completed in the shortest amount of time - 3-4 weeks vs. 4-6 weeks from the others. This is because they don't use subcontractors except for the floor people - so their scheduling is all controlled in-house. That made a big difference to us. They delivered on their promises and the project came in on time and on budget. Their worker Igor was very polite and efficient and the dust was contained as much as possible. The other big benefit to us was that all of the materials are chosen in their one showroom - you don't need to go from store to store to pick out cabinets, countertops, etc. - it's all one-stop shopping which was important to us since we are not home-improvement type people. From the beginning design of the new kitchen to the end result they assisted in the whole process. The only criticism we have is that since we are new to rehabbing, it would've been nice to have received an overall schedule of the work to be performed so we would've known what to expect. We kept having to ask questions about what was going to happen next vs. being told upfront by the project manager. The work they did was of very high quality and we are thrilled with our new kitchen. I would definitely recommend them to others considering a kitchen or bath rehab.
Description of Work: We had our kitchen and adjacent dining area totally gutted and rehabbed. We got new oak floors, maple cabinets, quartz countertops, sink, faucet, and all accompanying plumbing, ventilation and electrical work was performed by Masters.
Mike spent many hours with me over several months working on the design before we started the job, which was very important to me given the scope of the work, and because it was my first major renovation. Peter did most of the work over a period of 2 months, and we found him to be very reliable, professional, and easy to have around. His work was excellent, and we are still amazed at the job that he did for us. Ovi and his team did an amazing job on our floors, refinishing, and laying new wood in our kitchen. I've heard horror stories from many people about their kitchen and bath renovations, but all and all we were very pleased with the results.

Description of Work: There was an immediate response to my phone inquiry and a home meeting was set to see the work which is to be done. He was on time and very detailed in his explanation of what he felt should be done. A week or so later we met with the designer who was very well prepared and thoroughly explained the process, at that time we reviewed the initial drawings. I have delayed my project but will certainly consider them when we're ready to proceed.

Masters Kitchen And Bath I am currently using them, they are working on a kitchen right now. We were really happy with the design services, they contacted us twice even before we gave them a deposit. There were two different plans with all our needs and wants. So we are really happy with the design we chose and the quality of the product. The workmanship is really amazing. A major downside is they are very hard to communicate with. The don't always return phone calls and aren't great about asking approval for changes, which has become an issue.

We are completely satisfied with our new kitchen! We started with an outdated 30-year old kitchen with lots of wasted space and minimal storage. We changed the design of the kitchen by eliminating 2 poorly designed closet spaces. This did a lot to open up the space overall. We opted to remove the peninsula in favor of an island - after all, we had all this newly discovered space... We ran into some unexpected issues as we opened up the walls that enclosed the closets. Pesty things like ductwork, drainage pipes from upstairs bathrooms and water supply pipes but all were expecrtly overcome by the contractor with only minimal change to the design. Another challenge was the uneveness of our floor that represented some challenges for laying our 12" x 24" tiling - again by viewing the problem from different angles, we were able to overcome with a great solution. Selecting finishes for the multiple components was daunting as selecting cabinets, flooring, countertop and a backsplash that would complement each other was no easy task. Working with the contractor's designer was very beneficial in visualizing how everything would come together based on small samples of materials. Overall, it was an exciting experience and our new kitchen is beautiful, extremely functional and contemporary. Given the unexpected, I was grateful that I had chosen a contractor with extensive experience and excellent craftsmanship. It became obvious how horribly wrong things could have gone with a lesser-skilled contractor. I have no reservations in recommending Masters Kitchen and Bath for home remodeling.

It went very well. We first met with Tomas who described the process and gave us a ball part estimate. He's a guy who pretty much gives you straight talk, and is not the "slimy salesman" type. They want an informed customer who makes educated decisions and then is a part of the whole process. Then we met with Michael, the designer, 3-4 times. Michael worked solely through photographs and drawings and helped us pick out all the materials, cabinet types, sink, fixtures, lighting, flooring, etc. I do think it would have been a good idea for Michael to make at least one visit to the work site. When the work started, one of their jack-of-all-trades, and a true craftsman, Allen, came. He would come every weekday for eight or more hours and only rarely had any help from a second guy. Allen did all the labor from the demolition (which he cleaned up daily) to every aspect of the construction. He even painted. We added several extras-widening an existing door, moving a front door light fixture, and some unrelated electrical work and we were ok with the price. They initially gave us a start date and told us the job would take 3 weeks. When we expressed our skepticism, Michael reassured us that they kept to their schedule. It ended up taking 6 weeks, but we're not complaining because the quality was very good. Allen was generally very sensitive to our living in the house while this was going on, but there is no way to avoid the dust and mess. Igor, their electrician, did a nice job on his part including the extra work. At the end of each day, Allen would clean up the mess and remove the debris in their van-no dumpster. To help the job get done quicker, and because I wanted to fix up some adjoining areas, I bought some of the trim and parts, stained, polyurethaned and painted. That is NOT an expected duty of the homeowner, but I like doing that work and I probably saved a few days on the job. Allen was not just a great worker, but also was a pleasant guy to have around and I have nothing but respect for his skills. There were a few minor problems (what job doesn't?), in addition to the job taking longer than expected. They charged me extra for installing a water line to the refrigerator, claiming that a "standard installation" did not include that. We settled on a compromise price. We also had the Village stop by and require us to get a permit, and I had to insist that the contractor did that, not the homeowner. Tomas did get that and I paid the extra $180. Pretty minor things given the scale of the job. We now have a beautiful, functional, spacious kitchen, that is bright as we wanted. I would recommend them in a second.
Description of Work: They did a complete remodel of our existing kitchen that was some 30-40 years old. That included closing off one doorway, expanding another, tearing up and tiling the floor (with heating element). Because the existing kitchen tile extended another twenty feet to the front door with a small entryway, we had them remove and replace that tile as well. They removed an existing soffit and removed all the appliances. Plastering was so good it was difficult to even tell where the old doorway was. We picked out Kemper cabinets with a number of the newer useful elements like lazy susans in the corners, self closing doors and drawers, and LED lighting under the upper cabinets.. Along with the other cabinets, we had them put in a kitchen desk area. Plenty of outlets were installed including some with USB outlets for plugging in our smart phones and such. We had a large farmers sink installed with functional and attractive sink fixtures. They installed the new stove, microwave/hood combo, refrigerator, and dishwasher. The old florescent light fixtures were replaced with a total of 9 cans, brightening the lighting noticably. We picked out a beautiful piece of granite that made for great countertops including a lower, shallower one on the desk. They did a minor reshelving and tiling of the existing pantry, as we wanted. One of the elements that they took great care to replace was the oak baseboards and crown moldings to match the cabinets. They painted the kitchen and I painted the majority of the common space myself.

This was our first time having work done in our home and it was a surprisingly wonderful experience. The day we called MKB, Tomas came out to see our bathroom and take measurements. Within 1-2 weeks we met with Michael who guided us in selecting all of our materials, which we did in about 90 minutes. The fact that MKB is a one-stop shop was a huge plus for us. Before finding MKB, we had met with other contractors who required us to buy the tiles, vanity, etc. We spent several weekends leaving home improvement stores empty-handed and found it to be an incredibly time-comsuming and overwhelming experience. Plus, we live in a condo and would have had to store all of this in our living room until the contractor would have been able to start the job. Once we had everything picked out, it was another week or so before work began. Peter did the work in our bathroom and he was an absolute pleasure to work with: cordial, punctual, neat, and clearly knew what he was doing. The job was completed within the timeframe and estimate we were given. We are thrilled with our new bathroom. It's been 2 months since work was completed and we haven't had a single issue. I would absolutely recommended MKB and will definitely use them in the future.

The whole project took about four weeks from start to finish, it would have been shorter but once we got started we decided to replace the floor too and I am so glad we did. I really liked having a showroom right in town so that when we needed to make a decision it was quick and easy to stop by and look at all of the options. The showroom has a nice variety of styles and finishes to choose from, but not so many that it was overwhelming. Great experience! Nice work!
Description of Work: Masters Kitchen and Bath remodeled our kitchen and did an excellent job! The project included new cabinets, new flooring, counter tops, appliances and a tile back splash. We love our new kitchen, it is lovely! We worked with Michael on the initial design, he was very helpful and made some good suggestions on how to maximize our cabinet space. Alan handled all of the demolition and installation work and he did an excellent job. He took a lot of care with each part of the job, always explained the next steps and patiently answered my questions. I was very comfortable having him in my house and didn't mind leaving him alone when I couldn't be there. Everyone was very helpful and really wanted to make sure we were happy with the work. I would definitely consider using them for my next home improvement project.

They were able to start the work the week after we had a contract, much quicker than anticipated. We had a date where the work needed to be completed and they completed the work within the timeframe we needed. Both Tomas and Alan were wonderful to work with. Alan came and went as needed and was no trouble at all to have in our home. He was extremely friendly and very good at his job. After having Alan in our home every day for about a month, it felt strange when he was gone. We felt they did a fantastic job at a good price, so much so that we plan to use them for our third and final bathroom remodel at some point in the future. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Masters replaced all the tile in two bathrooms in my home. In the first bathroom, they removed tile from inside the shower, on the floor and walls and rebuilt the shower framework prior to re-tiling all these areas. In the second bathroom, they removed tile from the shower and floor and re-tiled. They removed existing cabinetry/sinks/etc. while the work was being completed and re-installed as these were not being replaced.
