He stands by his work and when unrelated crisis occurred donthe the aging infrastructure in our village - think raw sewage flowing into our newly redone basement ... three times - Chester responded each and every time literally saving us; working with our insurance company and thencoming up with a creative, safe and economical solution to protect us FROM the village system. We cannot say enough positive things about him, his stable workforce who we have known for over a decade, and the careful manner in which he listens to his client, helps work within a budget, and is reliable. The big question - is it possible to love your contractor? My husband and I respond enthusiastically "YES"!
Description of Work: We have had this contractor work on our home for over sixteen years. From re-roofing a large home with cedar shingle; stucco work; exterior woodworking and painter; sanding and sealing old floors; major kitchen updating complete with moving walls and redesigning four adjacent rooms; finishing a 100 year old plus raw basement -- the list and variety are endless.

 + 4 moreIt went very well. The job was done right done right, on time, at a fair price. We have had Czeslaw (Chester) do two projects for us (building a large multi-story home addition as well as doing a master bath gut rehab at another house) and we couldn't be much happier. He does quality work, at very reasonable prices, and most importantly, seems to care about doing a good job and having happy customers. He answers your calls, his guys show up for the job, and those workers do very high quality work (craftsmanship). No, he isn't perfect and doesn't walk on water, but if there are problems, he solves them quickly and to your satisfaction. He is smart, knowledgeable, and has lots of experience. Above and Beyond is capable of doing a very wide range of projects and I strongly recommend you hire them.

 + 1 moreI found Chester to be responsive and his workers were polite and considerate. They were on the work site everyday during the week and worked some weekends as needed. We moved out during part of the renovation and that allowed the construction crew to make good progress. Having done smaller remodeling projects and work with contractors who were not working everyday as they juggled multiple job, I found that Chester planned the availability of the crew well. He also made good recommendations on changes to the design when we needed or wanted to modify the original plans. When I checked references before we hired Chester, past customers told us to listen to him when he made suggestions for a better way to proceed. They were right - he has good experience and is creative. He was also familiar with the permitting process for our village and known by the building department. That was helpful as well. Chester is a good listener and works to meet your needs. A big issue for me was making sure the brick selected for the new sections matched as closely as possible to the existing house. He provided me with a number of options and I elected to mix two the options. The result is great and many people have been impressed by how closely the brick matches. Since we did so much work, there have been a few repairs due to settling. Chester has remained responsive and gotten his crew to come out to fix these items. The overall quality has been very good. The only thing you don't get with Chester is the project management - that's what helps him keep his prices reasonable. You do have to be willing to take on that aspect and stay in close communication with Chester. That said, I am very pleased with the work and with our experience using Above & Beyond Construction.
Description of Work: We started a major renovation project in 2013 that lasted about 7 months. We received bids from 4 contractors before selecting Chester and Above & Beyond Construction. They built two 2-story additions, one on either side of our house. This resulted in additional finished and storage space in the basement, a new large kitchen with mudroom and pantry, and a sun room on the first level; two bedrooms, two bathrooms (including a large master bath), a second floor laundry room, and a large master bedroom walk-in closet on the second level. A freestanding 2.5 car garage was also built.

I didn't realize how bad our old front porch was until Above and beyond rebuilt us a new one and it looks beautiful. We get a lot of compliments on our new front porch and we enjoy relaxing on it almost every day.

It is been great working with everything like we question them about or ask about what should we do about this situation, they seem to work with us. They were actually cleaning up after our contractor that left us. So far the work has been good. They have been flexible and it is been little hard to get around people as it is holiday and Christmas orelse it is pretty good. They have been really great to work with offering plenty of suggestions and they give instances how to work with the spaces that we have and helping us go over any of the issue left by the previous contractor. So they have been good and thorough.
Description of Work: They refinished two bathrooms and we are working on a kitchen and a master bedroom.

 + 4 moreI have used ABC on more than one home improvement and found his work crew to be highly skilled and professional in their work. They were very organized and always kept the job site remarkably clean. Projects were done on time and every request was met with great cooperation.
Description of Work: Installed bar, cabinets, wood flooring, wood trim, doors electrical outlets, lighting, painting and insulation in the family room and hallway. Remodeled bathroom installing marble tile, vanity, toilet, and all fixtures including lighting and electrical. Replaced concrete patio and driveway and installed new garage door. Installed roof, windows and outside siding.

Their prices were very fair and I already new the quality of work they do so I hired them for the job. My experience was great. Not only did they do a great job and make everything look great but they were always on time and did what they said they would do. I am not the easiest person to do work for because I ask a lot of question and really like to know what is going on at all times. Cheslav always answered his phone and always took time to speak with me and keep me up to speed on progress.  + 1 moreIt was a complex job, and ABC was always equipped to deal with whatever we encountered. The foundation work was excellent, and better than other work I've seen. Chester's suggestions were excellent and I was glad I took them. Everyone was meticulous and they never cut corners. Chester and his workers went to great lengths to make sure that everything was done correctly. Clearly the people who worked for Chester were knowledgeable and highly skilled. The finished addition turned out beautifully with great attention to detail. I always had the feeling that Chester and his crew were looking after my best interests. They really do go Above and Beyond in making sure you are happy with the final product. They were all a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: ABC built a new addition to my house including excavation and foundation. My architect highly recommended him, and said that Chester knew how things were supposed to be. I found that to be absolutely the case.

 + 3 moreOnly issue was that there were several missed appointments for estimates. The work itself was completed in a timely manner and on time.
Description of Work: We had to have a custom tile shower demolished and rebuilt. Also had bathroom repainted. ABC did an excellent job overall. Very professional. Chester was careful to look into different options for aspects of the project and to share those options with us. This group also remodeled our basement about 10 years ago. That work included building a new bathroom. Again, the work was very good. I have been especially impressed with Chester's attention to small details that enhance the project's final appearance.

 + 0 moreVery Happy! There were a lot of tricky aspects to this project (roof, plumbing, structural, etc.) and all were done beautifully! Also, the overall project was done in a professional, surprisingly low-stress and easy manner (huge for us as the nervous homeowners). Very interactive communication about the details of the project and lots of GREAT and no-cost and/or low-cost ideas coming from the contractor. We stuck to the original estimates! Our contractor definitely helped us avoid many mistakes along the way (from aesthetic to structural!) and I completely had the feeling that they were looking out for us as the homeowners/clients. Would highly recommend Above & Beyond Construction.
Description of Work: Brick Two-Story Addition including: --First Floor--Family Room with custom cabinetry, closets, interior french doors & patio doors to the backyard --Second Floor--Two new Bathrooms (relocating an existing bathroom/adding a new Master bathroom), new Bedroom, new Master bedroom closets, new hallway, hall closet and laundry shoot *Main Bathroom--custom tile work, skylight and other bathroom fixtures installed *Master Bathroom--custom tile work, skylight, built-in mirrored storage cabinet *Master Bedroom Closets--two 'His & Her' walk-in closets built at the front of the Master bedroom on either side of the seated alcove area & picture window --Full Basement--9" ceiling height; relocation and replacement of sump pump and original main plumbing stack, new utilities closet, roughing in of a wet bar --Garage--new window and minor repair on the two-story garage --Windows--all new Marvin windows in house (except for two bay windows in the original house) --Plumbing--replacement of virtually all plumbing (copper pipes) & new 1" water service to the house --Heating & Cooling--New zoned Lennox HVAC system for the addition --Wood Flooring--on first and second floors--blending ("toothing in") of new and original floor boards and refinishing/varnishing areas for integrated appearance of new and old red oak floors --Electrical--new electrical service to house and garage, media wiring in the family room, new fixtures throughout the addition, wired smoke detectors throughout the house, new light fixtures added in the original basement, front hall closet & kitchen pantry --Masonry/Roofing/Other--brick & roofing on all new space integrated and blended into existing brick and roof so that the addition looks original to the house. The second story is unusual because we have a Mansard roof (roof covers the entire 2nd floor and is gradually sloping beginning at 5' up the walls). They constructed an integrated/matching new addition with sloping second-story and made all kinds of adjustments because of the sloping (e.g. on the exterior: window dormers, roof, skylights, etc. & in the interior: cutting bathroom tiles to exactly fit the gradually increasing slope as you go up the wall.) Turned out perfectly! The Contractor recommended many final structural changes that were approved by Architect & Village of Oak Park--e.g. he recommended a different roof structure to support the domed second story mansard roof, adding an I-Beam support below the second floor and attaching the addition to the original house in a different, more heavily reinforced way.
