GALWAY TUCKPOINTING

We received an estimate from Galway to tuck point our chimney to solve a leak through the face of our fireplace. Paul recommended tuck pointing the chimney, replacing several bricks that had deteriorated near the top. There was a crack in our chimney crown that Paul stated could be caulked. He also recommended our flashing be replaced as it was another possible source of the leaking and was not in good shape. The work was done in a timely manner however when another rain storm came we were still having leaking. I called Paul and he said it had to be the roof or some other source. We noticed with the next rain storm that our gutters were overflowing and came to try to fix them and found the downspout to be filled with mortar solid. They had just washed the mortar down the downspout and not washed enough water so it was completely solidly blocked. I was also not happy with the number of roofing nails, sharp copper and general debris from the flashing being replaced. I have 3 young children and I'm still finding roofing nails in my front yard. Later on I had a roofer out to determine the source of the chimney leak and he shows me a picture of an area that was not tuck pointed - where there was crumbling mortar on a horizontal surface where limestone and brick meet. I had that area patched and it hasn't leaked since.
