I contacted Noland's Landscaping for a quote on planting a single Sunset Maple Tree in my yard. Noland's was about $200 less than competitors in the area (including local nurseries and other landscaping firms). He was very informative on what we should plant and was prompt with scheduling installation of the tree. The tree was pretty crooked once installed due to the shifting of the tree with the watering, and Dave and his crew came back out to straighten and stake it. The tree was a lot bigger than I was told it would be, and it looks great.

As you can see, we have to date spent over $12,000 with Noland's for three different projects dating back to 2007. Clearly we would not give that much money to a company that we didn't think had earned every penny. From start to finish, each project with Noland's has been a highly positive experience. Dave Noland is very responsive, listens well to what you want done and comes up with really good ideas to accomplish your goal. He always gets his written quotes back to you quickly. His crews work hard and do an excellent job. Each of the three projects we've had done turned out as good as or better than we'd imagined, and Noland's guarantees their work. They may not be the cheapest quote you'll get, but they won't be the most expensive either - you definitely get what you pay for, and in this case you'll get excellent, professional service and a beautiful result.
Description of Work: This was the third time we've used Noland's for a landscape / hardscape project, and each time we've been extremely pleased with the service we received during both the quoting process and the actual working process. Dave Noland is fantastic, and his work crews are very hard working and really know what they're doing. This most recent project entailed ripping out all of our old 1950's landscaping (mostly yew) at the front of the house, filling in with 6 yards of topsoil, planting boxwood, hydrangea, knock-out roses, rhododendron, arborvitae, weigela and a dwarf burning bush, and mulching the whole thing. During this process they also ripped out old railroad ties that had been used in a a portion of that old landscaping to compensate for the slope our house is on. Noland's replaced those horrible, rotted railroad ties with a two-tiered 20 foot paver wall that gently curves around the side of the house. They also filled in and seeded a large depression in the yard where three evergreen trees had to been taken down a couple years ago. All of our neighbors have commented on what a great job Noland's did. Prior to this project, in 2007 Noland's took out our original 1950's concrete font steps (which had sunk several inches) and sidewalk, and replaced them with paver steps and a paver sidewalk. That project totaled about $6700. It was that job which made us decide we would use Noland for any future projects. And so, in the spring of this year, before we were ready to tackle the front landscaping project, we had Noland tackle a weed-ridden strip in the back of our house. They ripped out all the weeds and the old concrete sidewalk, put in new topsoil to slope away from the house, installed a plastic barrier to keep the weeds from coming back and 9 yards of washed gravel on top of that, built a flagstone step-stone type walkway into the gravel where the concrete walk had been, planted astilbe all along the back foundation, and built several wood planting boxes, some 3x3 and some 3x6, in the gravel area so that now we can have vegetable beds where there was once nothing but weeds. That project was about $2800.

Dave was awesome. Very quick with the quote and had price saving options for us (different types of bricks, if we removed the old wall ourselves, etc). Also, he was extremely patient with all of our questions and took the time to call us back and provide any additional information that we required. When the actual work began, he was prompt and ready to go. His crew was fantastic - knowledgeable, polite and very efficient. Crew was in uniforms and they had all worked for Dave for multiple years (between 8-20 yrs) which made us feel really good about Noland's Landscaping. A quality company with good service, loyal employees and top notch work. We will definitely use Nolands in the future.

I called Dave (the owner) and he returned my call two days later. He and his guys did the work that very afternoon (in order to best fit in with my schedule)! I already had multiple bulbs popping up, the guys carefully raked out the old leaves and gently put down the new mulch. The garden looks like a picture in a magazine!!!
Description of Work: After a year of (my) neglect, the expansive flower beds needed to be edged and mulched, bushes needed to be trimmed, last year's plant debris needed to be cleared. A couple of dead bushes needed to be removed.

They did an excellent job on both areas, and cleaned up after each day, and at the end of the project.
Description of Work: They removed existing sidewalk to front door, removed bushes along sidewalk. Reinstalled with brick pavers and constructed it as a handicapped entrance. They also installed two planters in the front of the house in a 12' x 12' patio. At the rear of the house, they constructed a concrete patio. They re-landscaped next to both projects.

We are in the middle of it still but it is going well with mostly cleaning up the front lawn, thinning some of the bushes and adding some detail to the beds. I wanted a clean but low maintenance kind of yard that still had some curb appeal.
Description of Work: I contacted this company for an estimate on getting my front lawn landscaped. In the meantime, my college roomate who is a professional landscaper in Florida, offered to fly up and help out. I asked her to call this company and work with him and his nursery. When I get around to doing more work I will be very inclined to use his services.

The experience and workmanship couldn't have been better. Noland's is a family run business and they pay close attention to the details of every job. I have worked with a variety of contractors and Noland's gets an A+. They also have very reasonable pricing. I hope to have them do more work for me in the future. Thanks Dave!
Description of Work: Noland's filled a large area in with new top soil, regraded and seeded for grass. It was an area where a circle drive had been removed so the grading was very crucial to make the driveway look like it never existed.

I researched Noland's via Angie's List as being highly rated. I called on a Saturday and left a msg stating my needs. The call was returned later that week. Dave Noland came out to review the area while I wasn't home. A few days later I received an estimate which was considerably less then other estimates. I called to clarify exactly how they would handle the area (there were many stumps and large roots that would make this land very difficult to work). He was very nonchalant about the exact steps. When I asked if he would bring in dirt to level the area, he stated he would if needed. I decided to move forward, but lowered my expectations because of the much lower bid. It was not vital for the area to be perfect. Dave said he would call the day before he was coming out. I received a voice mail in May and Dave said he had done the work and laid the Sod. Unfortunately I didn't get home till after 10pm with no opportunity to water. Dave left instructions to water for an hour twice a day. With so much land to cover it took 8 hours to fully water. I scrambled to rearrange my work schedule to accommodate working from home so I could move the hose every hour. After a few days, I was worried as some of the grass was not looking good. I left a message with Dave about my concerns (mainly I was concerned that I didn't get a chance to water the hot day the Sod was laid). Dave came out the next day and i got meet him for the first time. He reviewed the grass and thought it would bounce back. He told me he would replace any areas I wasn't happy with. He apologized for no notification, but felt the weather conditions were perfect and he had to move fast to get the Sod in before Memorial Day so I could have the long weekend for watering. I felt he was trustworthy. Now, a month later the grass looks terrific. I couldn't have asked for a better job. Nothing needs to be replaced. More amazing is the fact that none of the stumps or roots have poked through the Sod. I am very pleased.
Description of Work: I had a 100 x 17 ft of land that needed to be cleared of stumps and roots, leveled and sod laid.

David Noland was very prompt to call back and schedule an appointment. I got estimates from three companies and his price was better than the others for what seemed to be more work (larger trees and higher wall) so we went with him. He was very attentive and worked around our schedule to make sure we got the work done before a party we were having. The work that was done was of very good quality and went beyond what was specified in the contract (the retaining wall ended up longer, the trees that were planted look larger than 2.5", they added seed to other areas of the yard that needed it, they got rid of a large bush that we decided we didn't want, added mulch around our old tree, etc.). The workers were friendly and conscientious and cleaned up everything at the end of each day. I would definitely hire Noland's Landscaping again.
Description of Work: Added retaining walls along driveway, including outcropping steps on both sides. Also cut out planting bed in the back yard around our deck and planted two 2.5" trees, and various bushes and plants, and 25 yards of sod.

Dave and his crew did a great job. The work was completed on time and the crew cleaned up everyday at the end of the day, including sweeping dirt/mud away from side doorways to prevent it being tracked into the house. The stone landscaping in the front is beautiful, and the back patio is perfect. The neighbors have already hired Noland's to create a backyard patio/steps landscaping design for them.
Description of Work: Removed old deck and replaced with brick pavers and large flagstone steps to back door. Landscaped around new brick paver patio with viburnum, perennials and mulch. Removed concrete steps to front door, wrought iron railings, front walk and large evergreen. Replaced with flagstone walk and large half circle flagstone steps to front door. Sodded bare spots created by new work and seeded front approach between sidewalk and road.
