Tom Odena should be working for someone else if Hummingbird Electric in Palatine IL is not bankrupt already. I used Hummingbird Electric and Tom Odena to install a 3k Solar unit several years ago. It still only operates at 2.5k max. He blames his supplier, he blames his personal circumstances, etc. Tom Odena needs to blame himself and realize he is overmatched and unqualified to be doing solar installations as well as major electrical projects. He doesn't reply to messages so not sure if hes still in business. Tom is a nice guy, can do minor electrical handyman work but for anything major steer clear. Good luck

I needed a portable Generac generator repaired and Generac listed Hummingbird Electric as a provider so I contacted them. The first call went well; after getting information about the generator, Tom was going to check on the availability of a parts kit and get back to me in a day. After not hearing from Tom in several days I called to follow-up. He said he would check on the kit and get right back in touch with me. After a week I called again to let him know that if he did not call back the same day I would go with someone else. Tom did not return my call. This is the kind of professionalism and responsiveness that I have come to expect from 13 year old babysitters. I would recommend contacting one of the many other generator repair shops in the NW Chicago burbs and not bother calling Hummingbird, because Tom probably will not call you back.

It went perfectly. We have used them in the past and he continues to do very good work for us. He comes when he says he is going to come. He spends the amount of time he estimates and the cost is usually right around what he estimates. I would use him again in the future.

We originally contacted Hummingbird Electric in July for the required maintenance service. They came out to look at the generator and said they had to order parts. We called two weeks later, and parts had not yet arrived. We called August 2, parts were in and arrangements were made for Tuesday, August 6 at 2:00pm. Hummingbird called at 2:00 and said was delayed. Hummingbird called at 4:00 and said was delayed. Hummingbird called at 6:00 and said would be here in 30 minutes. Arrived at 6:30pm, completed all maintenance on generator and departed at 8:00pm. The work on the generator was satisfactory, as far as we could tell, not being electricians. Of course, our whole day was waiting for maintenance to arrive. We chose Hummingbird because they are local to our town, and had an A rating from Angie's list. Could do better in the time management area.

Their prices seemed fair from my research. Everything was done as it should be.

On schedule with no issues. Passed inspection by village. Generator has worked flawlessly.

My experience with Tom was excellent. The day after I called him he came to provide an estimate for rewiring and installing the new fan in my bathroom. His quote was exactly what I was optimistically expecting, and he seemed very professional and knowledgeable, so I agreed to go ahead with it and he came the next morning (right on time). He got right to work, and didn't slow down. It ended up taking him longer than the 2 hours he had quoted, which I assume was due to my house's age and the unexpected things that always seem to pop up when I'm doing work around the house, but even though it ended up taking easily over 3 hour, he didn't charge any extra. Bottom line: Tom is incredibly professional, punctual, super clean, and very fair with his prices. I will definitely be using his services again.
