Very impressed with the project from start to finish. The finished product was exactly what I wanted. Not the cheapest company out there but I believe you get what you pay for and we will enjoy the space and quality for years to come. It was a pleasure to deal with Dave and Kristen.

Very professional! We were well informed the whole time and always felt could call any time. We got Archadeck from Angie's List, met at their office, signed up that night and they dropped the price as an incentive. The design was super, the workmen were great and the deck turned out PERFECT for us! We liked the firm, especially Kristen & David Berryhill. Lovely people! Quality work!

As it happens, our family decided to move to Texas and we canceled the project right before the permitting process and start of the actual work. This, in no way, should reflect any dissatisfaction with Archadeck and is solely a decision on our part to not invest further into a house we were moving out of. As expected, Archadeck was very fair and prompt in handling the termination of our contract and generous in refunding our deposit, minus a minor and very reasonable sum for the extensive design work already performed on our behalf. It was a great experience for us and I would highly recommend Archadeck to anyone wanting similar work performed.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace an existing builder deck with a new, larger deck and also install a new paver patio. We contacted Archadeck exclusively based on previous reviews and reputation. Initial sales and design meetings were helpful and efficient. I found Archadeck to be extremely courteous, prompt, and willing to go the extra mile, so to speak, to meet our needs. My wife and I went through revision after revision of our deck and patio plans and Archadeck was always willing and able to update the plans accordingly and provide good advice on design and appearance choices. I'm sure that we were somewhat frustrating customers with our continuous changes and optimizations but Archadeck was always happy to serve. Archadeck also assisted us in working with the village and the HOA to ensure the designs we were moving forward with would adhere to the building code and aesthetic requirements of the community.

Our deck was 18 years old and in rough shape. We decided that remove and replace was the way to go. We picked a couple deck builder from Angies List and "interviewed" them to see what they could offer. David, from Archadeck came out and talked with us for some time, asking how we liked to use the deck, what was important to us, what features we liked and and other suggestions we had. We were immediately impressed by how thorough he was....A couple weeks later we sat down again and he showed us his 2 different proposals. One was a basic design and the other was his concept of what he thought we might like, after our discussion. We LOVED his concept and went with it. Working with them was a breeze...They always kept us informed as to what was going on and took care of all approvals and permit requirements from our village. Their crew was outstanding.....They guys were true craftsman and it was very apparent that they took pride in the work that was being done. During the project, they would ask me about items and made sure we were OK with it or if we wanted to change something(all the time improving the aesthetics of the deck). At the end of the project, I must say, we were even more impressed with the finished product than I thought I would be...It was beautiful. Archadeck, David and his crew were OUTSTANDING to work with and I can't say enough great things about them and our experience. I would use them again in a heartbeat and would recommend them to anyone.

My initial review was incorrect . I apologize for my initial comments. To receive a complete estimate of the work and costs, I would need to meet with the designer at the location of Archadeck of Chicagoland.. . Requested a bid for replacing a deck. and received a sales pitch. Salesperson arrived at my house and proceed to give a sales pitch. Gave no information on what the company would do to build the deck. Salesperson was instructed not to provide a bid by Archadeck. All information was secret. Was told I could not get a bid unless, I visited their show room, signed a contract, to select materials, etc. and would only get a total price, without a detail listing of materials, services provided or estimated time of construction.. This was not a bid, just a sales call. ,

Looks like they are now only interested in big projects or projects with higher profit margins. Finally she said if we are not planning to spend more than $13,000 they are not interested in the project. How can we agree to an estimate even without comming and discussing what they are going to build. I would not recommend this kind of service provider.
Description of Work: I found them through Angieslist but contatced directly via their website to build a front portico. A lady called saying she is one of the designer and from get go she is just interested how much we want to spend befor even comming out and giving us an estimate.

We design and build projects ranging from $5,000 to $150,000. In this case we shared that a portico project usually runs in the low to mid teens. She said they were trying to stay around $5,000 and we cannot build a portico for this price. We apologize that she was offended but have found it's better to be direct early then waste peoples time.

[member name removed], Again I would like to apologize to you and [member name removed] for our mistakes. We definitely fell short of our standards for quality and timing on your project. Although we were on site daily to manage the project the crew did a few things different than instructed, and we corrected these issues. This was the last project for this crew with our company. Per the final conversation with you and your husband I believe all items on your project were addressed and the final result was a good-looking new low maintenance deck as designed. If I misunderstood and something was not addressed please let me know. We are a full design build company; over our ten year history we have utilized both employee and subcontracted crews. Regardless of the relationship with the crew that does the work, we are always responsible for every aspect of the project. It is rare, as our reviews reflect, that we have issues like this. When we do; they are addressed and made right with the client.

The design meetings went very well. We met with David at their office, which I found a little strange since they couldn't see our space. However, we brought pictures with and David was more than capable of giving us suggestions and ideas from those. After our initial meeting, he then came to our house to take his own pictures and measurements. At our next meeting, David had designs drawn up, and was able to give us a quote right away. Throughout the entire design process, David explained everything very well, and was willing to listen to us about what we wanted, and some ideas that we had. Compared to some other companies we spoke to, we felt our opinions and needs mattered to David. When we signed a contract, we were told that our project would begin in late August, and given an approximate start date. Overall, the project went very well. The deck took longer than expected, but the entire project still finished right around the approximate finish date (they did start almost 2 weeks early). The communication with Arcahdeck was pretty good. We would receive daily progress updates by e-mail. However, I was also checking on the progress each day myself, and the e-mails did not always match what was actually completed (although they were pretty close). I could see how these e-mails could be very nice for someone who doesn't get home till late at night, and wouldn't be able to see the progress themselves. I also emailed David multiple times with concerns that I had when looking at the progress myself, and every single time David responded quickly and was able to address my concerns, including coming out to our house when needed. The paver patio was installed very quickly, and done quite well. The crew even came out on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend to work on the patio. After the patio was done, the carpenter had to come back to work finish the skirting and stairs where the deck and patio connected. It took longer than I expected for Archadeck to be able to be able to schedule the carpenter to come back out. Once he was able to come out, it took him 2 days to complete the project, even though they told us it should only take 1. Overall, they seemed to have a hard time with their time estimates for the deck portion of the project. However, we are very happy with the final result, so it was worth the time. Overall, the project went very well, but there were a few other negatives. When the entire project was finally completed, I went out on my own to look over it. We had 12 lights installed by Archadeck, but only 6 of them worked. They did eventually fix this, but it seems like this is an issue that could have been caught by the carpenter before declaring the project finished. In addition, at the end there were a few other minor issues (screws that missed, were overdriven, etc). Again, these were all fixed eventually, but seem like the type of thing that could have been caught by the carpenter. Finally, we felt that the area around the deck was not cleaned up very well. After they had completely finished, my wife and I walked around and found a lot of debris (wood scraps, screws, etc.) that we had to pick up.
Description of Work: When we bought our house we had a small half-buried deck at ground level, which was a walk-out from the lower level of our side-split house. Archadeck demolished the old deck, and a small concrete stoop outside our old sliding doors. We had them build a new deck off of the other side of our house (about 4 feet off the ground), and install a new paver patio where the old deck used to be. They also replaced a window with a sliding glass door to get onto the deck.

Both my wife and I fell in love with Kristen. She was great to talk to and and responsive to our design ideas. After some back and forth we came up with a design that we loved. Then came the price. Over $40,000.00!! We had to pay extra for how we wanted the facia board. How we wanted the stair treads, how I wanted flashing on floor joists, and on and on. After we got over the sticker shock, we decided to move forward, but I had alot of questions and I wanted things done a certain way, as I have 20 years experience. Which seemed to be a problem almost from the start. From placing a sign right in the middle of our week old sod to the fasteners used and the type of flashing used and removing the drainage tile. Everything was an argument and a debate. Several things that we asked them not to do, were done anyway. Then we get the response of "do you just want us to stop? I can call them right now and have them stop." I heard that phrase about 4 times over the course of the project. This summer, we had some pergola boards warp because they were only fastened with nails and a 6x6 post twist. We called to have it serviced. After 3 weeks Dave finally called us back on a Saturday and said he had someone coming out on Monday. My wife told him we weren't in town and we didn't want any work done while we were away. Well Dave didn't "hear her." I spoke to him again reinforcing the desire NOT to have work done while we were away. He said he was at least going to have his carpenter look at at. Apparently he didn't hear me either. The workers showed up and started replacing things and set off the alarm. Pulling both of us off our jobs. The police were called too. So my wife called Dave and then I had to call Dave. To only get the response "that was not my understanding, do you just want us to stop? I can call them right now and have them stop." I client shouldn't have to have her husband call a vendor because he won't listen to her. If you are the average homeowner and know nothing about construction, then no problem. But my wife and I have painstakingly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars restoring our craftsman house, most of which by us personally. We thought we invested in our house by trusting Archadeck to build a quality deck and pergola which equaled he cost of a new car to only get hassles and arguments. Both me and my wife absolutely hate dealing with Dave. After this warranty work is done, I will do the rest myself. It's Dave's way or no way, and it doesn't feel good. I really hate writing things like this and all of this could have been fixed. If they didn't want to do things the way we requested, they shouldn't have taken the job. Prov 16:18

We were not told to delay the warranty work until they were home. This client was extremely difficult to work with. Our projects are always custom plans and details, we are used to being flexible. When a client has questions or concerns we listen and offer options to meet their interests. With this client it was impossible to satisfy them . It seemed like they were frustrated that we would not do upgrades for free. Luckily, we don't meet many clients like this.

We had a 20 year old deck that was worn and needed to be replaced and the design was very basic. We worked with Dave on the options and he was able to provide some creative sugestions on improving the deck design which we accepted and the final outcome was great. The crew was very responsive and were skilled carpenters, the work performed was very professional. There was also a 15 x 15 foot patio that was added to the desk as well. Dave's sugestions blended the patio with the deck and it looks and feels great. Dave guided us thru the design process and was very helpful and responsive during the entire project.

We thought our consultation with Kristen (our first for this project) went very well. We discussed what we wanted to achieve in the project, and showed Kristen our initial designs and layout drawn up over the preceding month or two. She was attentive to our ideas and opinions and suggested a few other things to think about. We looked forward to visiting the showroom later and seeing what designs they came up with. On the basis of the reviews we had read, we were excited about the possibility of working with Archadeck. The day we were scheduled to go out there (for which I took a day off work), Kristen called to say that they had decided not to pursue the project after finding out that our village would require a trench foundation for the porch. That requirement was something of a surprise, since it was to include vinyl, not glass, windows. She said they had done trench foundations, but they are more complicated, and they decided they didn't want to deal with that. We were quite surprised and disappointed at their withdrawing and annoyed at the last-minute notice of that decision. (The contractor we finally decided to hire didn't bat an eyelash at constructing a trench foundation.)
Description of Work: Archadeck, specifically Kristen Berryhill, responded promptly to an online request for a consultation and quote. After an initial discussion on the phone, she came to our house to consult with us on designing and building a 3-season porch and adjoining paver patio and walkways. Kristen talked with us, described their general design and construction process, and took numerous measurements needed to provide a quote. We arranged then to visit their showroom to see products and materials and go over the two proposals they would create a bit over two weeks later (the date noted above), when we expected to have other proposals in hand. .

[member name removed], I apologize that we caused you any frustration. After leaving several messages we learned that the village requires a footed / trench foundation. Our crews do work with trench foundations but adding the base footing requires two concrete pours and utilizing full depth forms. We do not have this type of equipment or currently work with a reliable subcontractor to perform this type of work. This is an unusual requirement for this type of project but that is the information the village provided. Going forward we will find a reliable support for this type of work. We think it is important to get the details up front so that we can avoid any surprises! I apologize that our call came at the last minute; we had great difficulty in getting an answer from the village. We find it best to be upfront with everyone about what we are good at and what we are not. As our reviews reflect we work very hard to ensure each client's expectations are met. We wish you the best on your project and again I apologize for any inconvenience or frustration.

I have never experienced anything like it. Archadeck responded to my inquiry and explained that my project, redecking my front porch (which is only 60 square feet plus railings and steps) was too small a job for them especially since I am not located in their immediate area. Completely understandable. The woman, who I presume was one of the owners, kindly offered to come by to look at my project anyway to advise me. I did not take her offer, thinking that was just way above and beyond but she told me to call her back if I had trouble finding a contractor with whom I was comfortable, saying that she'd try to help me. I still can't believe it. If I am in my home long enough to rebuild my back deck, I know who I will call first!
