Description of Work: They moved us from the Chicago-area to Graham NC. It went very smoothly. There was no major damage. They were very fast in loading and unloading. Everyone we dealt with were courteous, helpful and professional. This was the best move we have ever had. I would highly recommend them !!!

Description of Work: Thompson was recommended to us by our realtor. We were moving from a 4-BR, 3,200 sq.ft. house to a 2,100 sq.ft. townhome with a basement approximately 4 miles away. LOTS of stuff. Having used many different moving companies over the years, our expectations for Thompson were low and our worries were high. All our fears were allayed quickly. From the pleasant office staff to the very nice team leader, to the energetic and polite movers, our entire experience was superb. The tenure of most of the workers was much longer (many years) than you might expect for this demanding work (I asked the movers and team leader about this during the day while they worked steadily). All of our furniture and boxes was loaded, unloaded and set up (where needed) perfectly -- they clearly had a great deal of experience in loading and unloading. Very knowledgeable and communicative on the process throughout. In addition, the team members actually seemed to enjoy working together! They arrived on time and worked until quite late. Couldn't have been more pleased, as I told the owner (John) after the job was done. They did not want to leave until we were completely pleased -- no rushing out the door for these guys. In opening boxes many months later we still have found no damage. I wish we had found their company for our prior move! Competitive price too.

Everything was terrific. I called 4 moving companies and Thompson's was the only company that sent a guy out to inspect the items we wanted moved before they quoted me a price. So, they took pride in giving a quality estimate, which was comforting. They then quoted me 3 prices, at my request. 1 for them to box the small stuff and then move everything; 2 for them to move the stuff I boxed and the big stuff; and 3 for them to move only the big stuff. We hired them to move just the big stuff. 4 guys showed up 10 minutes early and went right to work. They worked non-stop until the work was done. As far as we can tell nothing major was broken. The ultimate price came in well below the quote. I thought the whole experience was terrific and very much worth my money.

Hired another local l mover to,do the first stage of our moving several,months ago. The experience was a nightmare including the moving men telling me it was customary toTIP each,of the 3 movers $100.. For a $400.00 move.! I hired Thompson for the next move and everything went as smooth as it possibly could.. I liked the free estimate (that actually was a little higher) than it turned out to cost!how often does that happen? Vince and Matt who actually did the move were very experienced,getting a few things in places I wasn't sure they would fit.. We're careful with our property and nothing was damaged in any way.. Planning the 3rd stage of our move and it definitely will be with Thompsons..

I would highly recommend Thompson Movers. I can't believe how painless they made my move. The Thompson Movers made up of Kevin, Adam #1, Adam #2 and Mike were great! They were on time, their final bill was very very close to their estimate and not a thing was damaged. Their quote was also the lowest quote I received. I can't believe my move was so hassle free. I would highly recommend to any one who needs a mover.

My white carpets got dirty during the move. They did rectify (to my satisfaction) the situation and paid for the cleaning of the carpet. I would recommend them. I am very pleased with the movers.

Thompson Moving and Storage sent two experienced, able-bodied men to help move some heavy furniture into a newly redecorated room. They were careful and they were fast. It took them not quite 30 minutes, but an hour is the minimum charge. While I wish I could have paid only for the 1/2 hour I needed, they were clear about the rules up front, so I really can't complain. They showed up on time, and they behaved professionally. When they realized how quickly the job was done, they asked if there was anything else they could move for me :) They were even more wonderful the second time I used them. Again I hired them for an interior move (we were doing a lot of rehabbing and carpet cleaning). They showed up on time, but I wasn't there because I had to pick up my sister whose car had to be towed after she was involved in a traffic accident. Before they took her car away, she and I pulled out a long, low table she had been hauling to my house. Unfortunately, the table wouldn't fit in my car. There we were, on the side of the road, wondering who to call, when Thompson's movers phoned my cell to say they'd arrived at the house. I explained my predicament. They said, "Well, we have a truck." They were kind enough to come with their truck to the accident scene, pick up the table and deliver it back to the house, where they then completed the interior move, including assembly of a dining room set. YES, I would use them again!

On the day of the move, I was at the first pickup site at 12:30, expecting a call from the movers at any minute. 1:00 came and gone, as did 2:00 and 3:00. The closer it came to 3:00, the stronger the feeling these guys weren't going to show and I'd just wasted one of my few days off from my full-time job when I had a million and one other things I needed to get done. Several minutes after 3:00, I started calling Thompson Movers' office. On the 3rd try, Pat finally answered, and I asked him where the movers were. He answered "I've been wondering the same thing. I'm gonna put you on hold". The hold was so long I honestly thought this was his way of getting rid of me. When he finally returned, he said the movers were at another job and were going to call me after they finished. He added "You knew we had a job before yours, and I said approximately between 1 and 3 and it's only 3:06". The truth is I didn't think they had a job before me, and he had first stated the pickup time as between 1 and 3 and later confirmed it would be at 1:00. The word "approximately" had never been written or stated. When I inquired as to why he or his movers didn't have the common courtesy to call me to let me know they were running late, he again said "It's only 3:06". There was no "Sorry", no apology from him---just rudeness, untruthful and condescending statements, sarcasm, and even blaming me!
Description of Work: I needed 5 items (armoir, headboard, 2 rocking chairs, & card table) picked up from a garage at a townhouse and 7 items (chest of drawers, lingerie chest, dressing table and mirror, 2 small dressers, and a grandmother clock) picked up from the first floor of a nearby home and dropped off at a 1-story home. All 3 locations were within several miles of each other. The estimate emailed to me was $307.00 for 3 hours work with 2 men ($100/hr + $7 for gas). This estimate was higher than 3 other quotes from different companies, and I thought the estimated time to complete this simple job was exaggerated, but I had gotten "good vibes" when I talked to Pat over the phone about the move. After all, my primary concern was that my furniture (most of which were cherished heirlooms) would not be damaged. The pickup time stated on the estimate was between 1:00 and 3:00. About 12 days later (2 days before the move) Pat called me to ask me if he could move the scheduled time to the morning instead of the afternoon. I explained to him that I had to work the night before the move and would need to sleep that morning. He accepted that and said the movers would call me about half an hour before arriving at the first pickup site. So he sent me a confirmation email stating the pickup would be at 1:00. The night prior to the move, I read the estimate more thoroughly (which I readily admit I should have done much sooner). This time I noticed it said the minimum length of work is 2 1/2 hours. In other words, if my simple job took only 1 hour, I'd still have to pay for 2 1/2 hours. Another thing I noticed in fine print at the bottom of the estimate is a box that was checked to affirm "Customer has been provided with IL C.C. required consumer brochure". From my research on movers, I knew "IL C.C." was referring to the Illinois Commerce Commision that licenses movers. I found this a bit alarming as I was never provided with this brochure.
