He located and fixed the problem, an open neutral. Identifying the problem is the easy part. But finding it can be difficult, a bit like solving a puzzle. I was impressed the competence of this electrician and very satisfied with the good service.
Description of Work: The technician tracked down a problem in my household circuit which caused higher than normal voltage. This caused numerous light bulbs to blow and appliances to shut down.

I was in the process of having my driveway replaced with concrete. During the excavation process, the underground wiring to the garage was damaged. I called the company in the late afternoon and they came by the following morning. They were able to relocate the line so that it didn't run underneath the driveway and brought everything up to code - and all without holding up the progress of the driveway project. A great job!

Omar was great -- he showed up on time and was very professional. Took a look at the circuit box in the basement, then went outside to check the meter box. Opened it up to find that the issue was not mine but Commonweath Edison's problem - one of the underground cables had completely disconnected. He also pointed out that the other live cable as well as the neutral cable were also coming loose and should be repaired. Omar wrapped up the live, hot disconnected cable so that it wouldn't arc, explained to me exactly what was what (I'm not entirely familiar with electrical stuff) and then told me what I should tell ComEd when I called it in. And even though he made a trip out to my house and did basic diagnostic work, he didn't charge me anything. I will call him again when I need any work/repair done in my house.
Description of Work: I had a partial power outage and Omar fit me into his schedule today to fix it since my air-conditioning wasn't on (along with other major appliances).

These guys are great! Professional from start to finish. Omar came to my house and we walked through the wiring and lighting options. As our building is older, we discussed the care needed with lathe and plaster ceilings. He had pictures on his phone of a recent and very similar installation - the confidence and professionalism that were projected definitely sold me, and I hired him on the spot. His pricing was very competitive, approximately 22% less than another bid I received for the same work. They were able to fit in our job within a week. Omar and Israel arrived on time. They set up the work area for containment of dust, and were careful to limit the amount dust that migrated from their work area. They were consultative with me through the entire process. We discussed the location for the lights in the dining room, and also reviewed options for wiring the ceiling box. They worked well as a team and were diligent. When they finished the project, they swept up the work area and reviewed their work with me. The lathe and plaster was unharmed as well (no big cracks or dents). It was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend Excel Electrical.

Omar was incredibly professional and helpful and thorough. Our lights were flickering and we didn't know why. He examined all the wires in the room with the flickering lights, and eventually diagnosed 2 burnt out circuit breakers in the basement as the cause. He replaced them, and fixed the problem (which was a fire hazard). He also fixed our doorbell and a faulty plug while at it. Definitely recommend!

Omar came out within an hour of our call when we lost power due to a failed main circuit breaker. He got us up and running, and as the panel was old, we decided to replace the whole thing. Scheduled the service for the next day. The technician was on time and worked in the cold basement (no power = no heat!) without a break until the job was done - even with offers of coffee! Very happy with the service and price.

We had an old ceiling fixture which, when we turned it on, fizzled and blew the circuit breaker. We didn't know if it was a problem with wiring in the ceiling, with the light fixture itself, or what the problem was. When the circuit breaker was turned back on, other things on the same circuit worked, but none of the 3 bulbs in the ceiling fixture lit. Omar arrived on time, was extremely professional, looked at the light and explained it was a problem with the light and with the old dimmer switch. He repaired everything quickly. Very fast, very great service. He looked at another old fixture at the time and made minor repairs. We were very happy with the quality and responsiveness of his service!

Excel did a great job! They were very responsive to the initial phone call and provided an estimate over the phone. They came on time, and did everything very professionally and correctly. I was needing some ceiling fans replaced and also had them install two ceiling lights in several different rooms in my house. They were in and out in a matter of hours, and everything looks great! I will definitely use this company again for any electrician services I require.

I contacted Excel Electrical via their online form which can be found on the website. The owner Omar called me back immediately and gave me quotes for installing two motion sensor lights and adjusting a light fixture which was not hung correctly. Everything from start to finish went well. The crew arrived on time and worked really fast. Omar also assisted me with getting my flickering lights fixed by ComEd. After Excel left our home, all of our lights went out and Omar came back to the home to assist us although his company was not at fault and kept in constant contact with me via telephone until my issue was resolved. He was nothing but helpful and professional the entire time. Due to the detailed information he provided, I was able to clearly explain to ComEd the issues we were having and what needed to be done. I would definitely hire this company again.

I really can't speak more highly of Omar and his company, Excel Electrical Technologies. You won't find a finer electrician for any job you have. He was local, had a tremendous reputation on Angie's List and he more than lived up to the stellar reviews he has received. I was in the midst of a multi-tiered remodeling project in my house. Among the items being addressed, I had a dirt crawl space under my house that I wanted to get sealed and insulated before the winter. The crawlspace contractor couldn't complete the job on the initial visit because there wasn't an electrical outlet that could accommodate the sump pump they wanted to install. They offered to bring in an electrician they contract with, but having seen the reviews on Angie's List for Excel Electric, I decided to call and explain my needs on the project and check their availability. I left a message on the company's voice mail and Omar returned the call within 15 minutes. I explained that I was trying to get concrete poured in my crawlspace, but the obstructionists in the town where I live (more on that later) refused to allow a concrete pour until the electrical outlet was in place. This was a Thursday evening and he offered to come out on Monday. Since I was I already taking the following day off for some other projects, I asked if he could come Tuesday instead and he agreed, stating they would arrive between 8:00 and 8:30am. Tuesday morning arrived and Omar and his partner arrived right at 8:00am. I showed them to the basement and into the crawlspace. He looked around and thought it wouldn't be a difficult run from the breaker panel into the crawl. Although I hadn't thought about it, he asked if I wanted to have one or two lights installed, as they could be run off the same line. I agreed that it was a good idea. Should the sump pump ever fail, it would be hard to tell there if there was a problem initially without any lighting. The first sense I had that this was going to be more than a simple job was when he looked at the existing breaker panel and noted that it was completely full. There was no space on it to add an additional circuit. In addition, when he took the panel cover off, he showed me three of the breakers were double-tapped...a situation that could potentially cause a fire and is also against code. He gave me the straight dope that the only way out of this predicament would be to have the breaker panel replaced with a new one that allowed room for expansion. I asked if my existing 100 amp service was adequate to support a larger panel and he assured me it was. The second indication that this would be a much larger project was when Omar asked me to come outside. He showed me the socket meter on the back of the house...the metal box that holds the electrical meter and feeds the power into the house. The meter socket itself is fed by a large conduit running out the top (the riser) and the wires from the local power grid feed into the riser to provide power to the house. He said that the meter socket appeared in pretty bad shape, with a lot of corrosion on the outside of the box. In addition, he pointed out something I had know for some time...the riser feeding into the top of the box was hanging precariously off the side of the house. Although I had had ComEd out on three different occasions over the years to re-attach the riser to the side of the house with a bracket, it had managed to pull itself loose all three times. Finally, he showed me where the line to the house had been improperly spliced. He said any city inspector would certainly say that it violates code. Code or no code, I could tell just by looking at it that it was dangerous. The solution...replace the meter socket and riser. Keeping in mind that I'd asked him out to merely add a single outlet, I cringed at the thought of trying to schedule a time to have all of this additional work done. Imagine my shock when Omar said they could probably get everything finished that very same day! He went out to his truck for about ten minutes and worked up an estimate for me. When he returned, I reviewed and signed the proposal, which I felt was very reasonable for the work involved, and they got to work. Omar and his partner worked tirelessly through the day. They never even took a break for lunch! To minimize any disruption to me, they didn't disconnect the power until they were ready to remove the existing meter socket, which turned out to be in a lot worse shape than expected...a lot of corrosion and one of the hot wires had started to work its way out. By then, they had already run the conduit into the crawlspace and installed the outlet, two lights and a light switch. The power was out for a few hours as they installed the new riser, the meter socket and breaker panel and got everything reconnected to the power grid. With all the cutting, drilling, bending, splicing etc that was going on...I was shocked when they were done before 3:30. They turned the power back on and then took the time to find out exactly what lights and outlets each of the breakers controlled and then labeled them as such on the breaker panel. That had never been done by the previous homeowner or any electricians she had worked with. He then showed me all of the work that was done and asked if I had any questions. I had a few and he took time to thoroughly answer in terms that anyone without an electrician's background could easily comprehend. After that, he spent time both inside and out meticulously cleaning up after themselves...sweeping up any wires or insulation, any sawdust or concrete dust. He left my basement cleaner than when they showed up. Finally he called me downstairs one last time and pointed out the "smart" water meter that had been installed two years ago at the insistence of village leaders that threatened to turn off my water supply had I not had it done. It turns out that the village that insists that every tradesman and contractor pay a $125 annual license fee, that insists that all work to be performed be inspected both beforehand and afterwards, that charges 10% of the cost of a project for a building permit all to "protect me"...that same village had had the smart meter installed by someone who never properly grounded it. They just used a strip of electrical tape, where the code calls for the grounding wire to be properly clamped! So Omar walked back out to his truck, grabbed a clamp and grounded it properly, for no charge. When the time came the settle the bill, I told Omar I couldn't in good conscience ask for the Angie's List discount he provides. I felt that the scope of the project was way beyond what he anticipated and I was grateful he was able to accomplish everything the same day. In addition, I felt embarrassed at the number of hoops he had to jump through at city hall to get any work done. In spite of all this, he insisted on giving my the discount anyhow! I just can't reiterate what a great guy Omar his. Clearly he is more than well versed in his field, he is extremely polite and very articulate at explaining complex electrical matters to an average homeowner. I was very fortunate to come across Excel Electrical on Angie's List and I absolutely won't hesitate again when I need help on an electrical project, no matter how large or small.
