The unpacking was a little overwhelming because things weren’t in the rooms they belonged in. They are just unpacked. But if you’re not bothered by that, it was good. They were reliable and they did what they said they would do. I had a couple things broken and the company came out and fixed it and there was no problem.
Description of Work: We used Allied Van Lines when we moved here. We used them six years ago. Once they moved us here, the company had an unpacking service. They just unpacked everything and got rid of the packing and the boxes.

We took everything apart and set things back up ourselves. They were very easy to work with; they left me go to their company location and get any used boxes I wanted for free. I could purchase new boxes at a discount. The move cost less than they said it would. I will use them again in the future.

I did not like them at all. I didn’t get my stuff when I was supposed to get. I had numerous things damaged, which they ended up paying for, a reasonable amount. It was a short move; they were supposed to have the items in 5 days, but they got it all in 7 or 8 days. I will never use them again.

They were very careful in terms of picking up our furniture and they took extraordinary care to make sure they didn't damage the house. They worked very hard. We were very pleased with the crew that packed up our house. We had to put stuff in temporary storage and then have it moved here. They handled our furniture and other things several times. We were surprised at how little damage there was. We had one problem because they only had 3 guys to unload the whole truck when we arrived here. They didn't hire local help so as a consequence it took them a very long time. They were understaffed. Although we were very pleased with their work on the Indiana side, there were too few guys and they should have hired some local help to help unload the truck. They arrived at 8 and didn't leave until after 8. It was clear that the guys were absolutely exhausted and were at their end by the time they finished. If they had hired a couple of local guys it would have been easier on everybody, including us because we had to stand there and wait for them to unload the truck. We weren't unhappy but these guys had to get back in their truck and drive across country and they could barely see straight. We felt so sorry for them. They could have had some help. We got several estimates and it fell right in the middle. We felt it was a reasonable price. They arrived when they said they would and they did the job they said they would do. The guys were professional and worked very hard. They were careful and did everything they could but they were just overwhelmed by the job. The company should have given them more support. They did a very hard job and worked very hard. We would use them again. They provided us with boxes and the crews were good.
Description of Work: We used Allied Van Lines when we moved from Indianapolis. We did the packing except for the furniture and heavy items.

I packed about 60 boxes prior to them even arriving. Their packers arrived....do an inventory...pack carefully...explain everything...we feel everything is going as it should. The next day ....the same people arrive....but around noon....a few are "pulled to another job"! New packers arrive....inventory slows and eventually stops. On the 3rd day (Friday) we are told we have no driver.....move was postponed until Monday....but they take a load to their warehouse and get things "out of our way".The last day half way through loading the truck...our entire team was pulled (to a military job) and a crew of men arrive from the ware house to finish the "packing" and loading. A couple of our things almost didn't make it on the truck.... and there was NO inventory at this point....and NO communication. From the very beginning we asked and REPEATED that certain pieces be handled with EXTRA care and use extra padding because they were antiques and family heirlooms. The THREE antiques we specifically asked them to use care with were the ones that were damaged!!!!! In addition to these three items...the leg of another table was broken...and the legs on the base of a LARGE table saw were bent so it can't be used. (These legs are NOT able to be replaced because of the age of the table saw...but the saw was VERY useful...and one we used on many projects.) Some boxes were crushed... Tools and Screw & Nail organizers were thrown into boxes and a scrambled mess when we unpacked them. As the weeks went by...and we unpacked more things...each box was an adventure...finding things so mixed up, mismarked, or in a mess at the bottom of the box. The company that unloaded the truck commented that they had NEVER seen a truck packed the way this one was packed....and they would make a report to that effect. (The guys were nice....but we had marked were the boxes were to go....and toward the end....they just piled them in the garage...assuring us they would help move them where they belonged once the truck was unloaded.. ...... Of course it NEVER happened.) 1. We reported the damage...... according to the steps we were told to use and within the time required.!!! 2.I was called by Allied Van Lines for a " Post Move Satisfaction -survey "....told her everything that had happened....and was assured by the woman I would hear from someone within 4 or 5 days to have these problems dealt with. (I never heard from ANYONE!) 3. The men who worked for the company who unloaded us here in Florida said over and over again..".they had never seen a truck packed like this" and they would make a report to that effect when they returned to their office. (We never got a copy of this "report".) My husband is 100% disabled...we have an autistic daughter...and I've been trying to get this house set up and get things fixed in the house!. I really don't have time to chase down terrible business companies! I'm sick of looking at this broken furniture....(especially my grandmother's desk!!). :-( My advice is...... DON'T use Allied Van Lines! I'm sorry to say they're terrible and don't stand behind their "work"..or screen the agents who "use" their name!!!! (I'll stop here.....)
Description of Work: We hired this moving company to move us from Tx to FL. ....The deal was they were going to help us pack for 3 days prior to loading the truck. The salesman told us the more items we pack ourselves in boxes...... the more money we would save.

They were on time, however, the selling agent 'Tina', had convinced my Mother, or determined that it was best to have two trucks, however, in retrospect, it was neither functional or well thought out. The truck at my house left after it was partially full, the lead at my house said he couldn't out the rest of the furniture in the truck. I thought he gave his partner a break who was highly allergic to the to cat dander and considerable dust that was afloat. That poor man's face became swollen and he couldn't breathe. Maybe a call to the dispatcher might have relived him from this job and sent someone in his stead would have been the sensible route. So they went to my Mother's townhouse and sat out side of it because they didn't know what the destination place was. My oh my. My son became agitated seeing this truck sitting outside of his grandmother's house doing nothing but sitting. So he leaves with my Mother, to take them to the move in house, however, they get the address, eventually from the other crew. Nobody read the tags, crew i or 2, I recently opened up a very clearly marked box that said front room, fragile, curios under some heavier boxes marked Kitchen, heavy pots and pans....they were in the garage. So there are two people packing my 90 year old Mother's house, that call me to unplug her computer, when I leave from my scramble to get it done place and get to my Mother's, they had already dismantled the computer. The first truck's crew were laying on the lawn of a neighbor, because they still had the wrong address, received from the crew at my Mother's house. The crew at my Mother's house calls me to say they are through, they left two pictures, one clearly hanging on the wall, another in an alcove. When I pointed that out they took the one off of the wall and squeezed it in between some objects packed on the truck. The other one was left. They had been lamenting about the mirror they broke. I went back to my house and the truck that was at my house originally returned in about an hour. I put my laptop in its case and requested that it not be touched. Guess what it was grabbed up and was on the truck before I knew it. Don't know what they did, but I had to purchase a new one. Now the first team said the second team was wrong for not packing the truck to the hilt. This sets the stage. My house crew said the first crew was slow. By this time my son was going nuts and even tried to help them, bad move, to remove items off of the truck. My Mother was looking for her medication, they didn't call me about her purse and the medication hanging out of it(unlike the computer), because they packed it at the bottom of a box of catch all things(that we found after she came back from Europe). Well things were not put back together, like my Chinese screen, and bed. However after a couple of calls to the office(I had phone difficulties) the dispatcher came out with the head of the crew(a guy at my Mother's house), put the screen together and also the bed. The dispatcher initially said that he didn't know who to believe, it was he said she said. Yep that's what he told me. I'm your customer, and I have input into your payment, but it was he said she said, wow, and that wow is not in a good way. He said if they had taken the clothes out of the garment bags they would have to charge more. WOW!, He also said that my oldest was 'high', he word were hr heard that kid was high. I said the 44 year old kid who drank a beer at my Mother's house(and I don't approve of drinking, although most of the civilized world does). The dispatcher then said oh kind of sheepishly. He sounded like a bully on the phone, but I'm a woman that is 6ft 1/2 in tall and I don't bully that easily. It would have been better if we had moved after my Mother left for her latest escapade, no doubt. However, this is what she wanted and it was fulfilled. We could have made wall labels, but we didn't have the time. I'm not sure that would have helped, they could not read the labels that I generated on a computer so handwriting would not be an issue. Trucks leaving mid move, sitting around at $206 per hour. Boxes despite labels were everywhere , which means the garage. My youngest and I did most of that moving. Later my oldest disgruntled son picked up his part. My Mother left to find her medicine, yes driving, she slipped away from my oldest son in the mayhem, and she was lost for three hours. When we opened the boxes we packed with triple layers of protective material, we found several items broken, they had been packed under boxes of books and slung on the trucks. Never, ever, never with this company again. I equate them with the fake Bekins here in Las Vegas and Triple 7. If you want to give away money and have a mess to contend with, go with one of these companies.
Description of Work: They were contracted to move my Mother and I from separate townhouse apartments into a two story house; my Mother did the original contracting based on a recommendation from my brother who lives a zillion miles away. I wanted to use Angie's List This is not a national company, but a franchise, almost like the fake Bekin(their home company said that the outfit here 'rented' the name, and were not affiliated) that's here or was here. I have moved 23 times in my life, cross country, cross town, cross world so I'm pretty much a veteran at this. They were contracted to pack everything including hanging clothes in garment bags and to re-hang them. My Mother's dishes, books and curios were packed by me and my sons. My house was packed by us. They arrived on time and I was doing some last minute scurrying. There were certain things I wanted to move myself(laptop) and other things I gave them specific instructions, or rather questions regarding their ability to move these particular things. My oldest son was dispatched to my Mother's house to aid her and instruct the movers. My Mother although a feisty 90 year WWII vet, is nonetheless 90 years old. I was given permission to speak with the movers and had once changed the moving date, based on the closing and recording process.

Having moved 10 times in almost as many years, we've become very moving-savvy. After obtaining 3 estimates, we went with Berger b/c they were one of the few companies who would provide a binding estimate for local moves (within tri-state metro area). Consumers be aware: the moving industry is one of the worst for consumer fraud, so learn about your minimal state & federal rights. Know that most companies will add-on charges on moving day, let you think it's your fault & they are legally within their right to exceed estimates to an extent. This did not occur with Berger. After coming to the house to take inventory (never do this by phone) & submitting a reasonable bid, Berger matched our lowest bid. They showed promptly on moving day and worked quickly and efficiently to load the truck. We had packed our own things and were moving many of the smaller boxes of breakables ourselves. We had them help minimally with furniture assembly/reassembly - removing mirror from dressers and reassembling at the new home, etc. They completed the work in one day as planned. There were a few problems - one major to us: several pieces of furniture were too large to be carried upstairs. Our biggest complaint here is that we had anticipated this might be a problem & specifically asked the sales rep who did our inventory about it & even invited him to survey the new house; he declined, and that cost us time & money to replace our box springs with split-box frames the night of our move. We also had to re-arrange furniture last-minute to accommodate larger pieces that had to stay downstairs. What a hassle! Berger offered to haul off and store our queen boxsprings - a small consulation given that they were both less than 1 yr old. Also of note, despite repeated (and polite) requests to lift not drag furniture on the newly refinished HW floors, several pieces were scooted in our presence which caused gouges in the floor. We reported this right away to Berger, who suggested we file a claim. We had our floor installer come out later to give us a bid and their recommendation was to sand and reseal the sections that were gouged. The cost would've been 1-2K and the claim probably would've covered this but we were not willing to endure another week or so of moving furniture, breathing and cleaning HW floor dust from the sanding and fumes from the sealant. So we're living with the gouges. On the whole, Berger could've done better with the initial inventory to determine we would indeed have a problem with getting the furniture upstairs - especially because we wonderd about it ourselves and asked about it specifically. They also could've been more cautious with the furniture - the pieces that were scooted were not large, and it was more a matter of one person wanting to scoot it himself rather than ask a coworked to help him lift it into place. Other than that, the crew who did the job were polite and hard-working and dealt very professionally with us when we were upset about the miscalculation on the furniture and the floor, as was the office staff. For that, I could give them a conditional recommendation to "use again" but buyer beware.
Description of Work: Berger moved us locally from northern KY to eastern Cincinnati, about 10 miles. They moved all the furniture and contents - lots of small boxes, with no packing help from them and only minimal furniture assembly/reassembly - from one ~1400 sq ft home to another. Both homes had stairs going in & tight hallways.

I needed to get my refrigerator to my new house for a plumber to install the water line for the ice maker. I got a quote for $600. I figured I would maximize the opportunity and include the other items to recoup the expense. Three men show up, without even as much a a screwdriver,,,no tools. They had no way to secure and wrap my glass top and pieces from my hutch or leaves to my table. I had to leave them and will pay a second mover to move them. To make things worse they claimed they had no order to move a refrigerator. I insisted that was the reason for a mover in the first place, and then we had an issue because it was still hooked up to the water line. We debated again. After an hour we had the line free. Then they spent another hour or more trying to get it out. They had to remove my front door. Then they measured the frig from my garage (which they were going to switch out in my kitchen) and found they would have to go through the front and remove the door again. I said no. I wasn't going to pay the hourly rate for that. So now I have the inconvenience of having to access a frig in the garage for three weeks . They put three dents in the front of the frig, nicked the edge of my dining room table and two chairs. And cost me an additional $400. I hold the dispatcher responsible for the inaccurate preparation of the men to arrive without proper tools and accessories for the move. Apparently they sub out. But come on if you are movers you should have cartons for glass and enough supplies to be ready for most circumstances, no?
Description of Work: Moving an upright piano, refrigerator, dining room set, desk and two file cabinets. They claimed not to have enough room for the gas grill (which was included in the estimate.)

The company seemed to be OK: frequent phone calls, a chatty visit from the apparently friendly (but obviously entirely phony) estimate-giver "Bob" . . . indeed, everything seemed to be going fine until the planned day of the move. That debacle, however, mitigated everything else.
Description of Work: It is extraordinary that this company (Siracusa) received a positive rating on Angie's List - so extraordinary, that I'll probably not be using the List much in the future. A certain "Bob" came by to do an estimate, which explicitly included packing our belongings. On the day of the move, a mover arrived (half-inebriated, or so it seemed), looked at the apartment, retired to his truck, and made a phone call to "Bob." "Bob" in turn contacted us, indicating that no packing was included in the estimate - a barefaced lie - and that to include the packing would add 2500 dollars to the total cost. Needless to say, we are delaying our move.

When they loaded our storage unit they couldn't close the door so they kicked our furniture, dented more items, broke items. Some items they lost; a glass top to an outside furniture table. When we finally unloaded the storage unit it was missing, and they won't cover it. My mother-in-law gave me a toaster oven that they stole. It has never been found, and they won't pay for it. I bought additional insurance, even. I have a message from Sandra that says she isn't going to cover any of these items. All I want is compensation for items they've broken, and they aren't covering it.
Description of Work: They moved us from Canton, PA to San Antonio, TX. We had chosen this company before to move from NY to Canton, the movers we originally had were professional and made moving stress free. Upon pickup this particular time, we have detailed events. Instead of arriving a day before we moved, he arrived the day of. He was packing while they were trying to load the van. They dented a custom made steel entrance door in several places. Requested reimbursement,($475). They broke a rung off of a stairway railing. Due to the driver being concerned with paying his workers too many hours, rushed through the process and left too many boxes behind that wouldn't fit. We had to give away items. I wasn't able to take any of our plants which I had planned on taking. I had to give these away. Upon delivery, they arrived a day late from what we had agreed upon in our contract. It started to rain lightly. The driver refused to begin delivery. Mentioned his lights weren't working so he couldn't start because he couldn't see. My husband took a day off work, since it wasn't delivered in time he lost a day's pay. We had to make accommodations for that night. The workers were rude and unprofessional. They insulted my daughter-in-law when she asked a question. They dropped furniture, a computer monitor, porcelain dolls. The boxes were not taped properly and bottom flaps were opening. They lost a leg from our sofa, broke it off. Items were chipped, broken, dented, and we made a list of these items. They have refused to cover some of them.

Everything went well from beginning to end. The movers were exceptionally helpful and professional. They were very nice people and seemed to want to make sure that I was a satisfied customer, which I was. I would definitely recommend Allied to anyone who asked. It was worth the extra cost to have them pack everything for me as well. It's hard to find a good moving company these days, so I was very relieved that I picked the right one.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE OF THE COMPANY. IT TOOK THEM FOUR TRUCKS TO MOVE EVERYTHING AND THEY TOOK FOREVER GETTING LOADING THE TRUCKS. EVERYTHING WAS MARKED WITH WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO, BUT THEY DROPPED STUFF WHEREVER THEY WANTED.
Description of Work: I HAD THEM MOVE MY ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD.
