Description of Work: I've used House of Heat for the last two years for my furnace and a/c tuneups. After I got my air conditioning tune up in May, I heard a rattling noise whenever the air turned on and off. I called House of Heat, and they sent someone over. He determined that the technician who had done the work last time didn't install something correctly, so he apologized and fixed it, and didn't charge me for the extra trip.

Description of Work: I made two separate appointments to have my furnace inspected and they were unable to come in a timely fashion either time. They were more than two hours late the first time so I called to reschedule. The second time I scheduled the first appointment in the morning. I called an hour and a half after the promised time and the dispatcher was unable to estimate the time of arrival.

Response from HOUSE OF HEAT
We’re sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations and provide our standard of excellent service to you. I had attempted to look into what happened but our records only indicate that we had been out there once on November 18th, 2013 and that job had been scheduled not long before. Besides that our records only indicate that we had been out to the previous owners multiple times. Regardless though, we’re still sorry that your experience with us was so poor and are taking steps to avoid this in the future.

It went great!
Description of Work: I was so impressed by House of Heat. My air conditioning had stopped working. I received a call back within 20 minutes of posting a request in Angies List. Then the service person came before1:00 that afternoon and fixed the problem. Not only was he punctual and professional, he also provided informaiton on maintenance of my system, without trying to sell anything. I will definitely call them again!

Description of Work: We called House of Heat last year when our air conditioning was not working and the company charged our unit with freon. Two weeks ago the air conditioning stopped working again (with the unit freezing) and we again called House of Heat. When the technician came out, we specifically asked he check the unit for leaks. He assured us there were none and he charged the unit. Five days later, the unit stopped working. The technician who came out said the inside unit was leaking in four places, after only 10 minutes of testing. He never looked at the condenser. We said we had specifically requested the unit be tested for leaks the previous week to which the House of Heat technician replied, "I wasn't the one who was out here last week." He suggested we would need to replace the unit, which is only six years old. We then called another service provider (whose name we obtained from Angie's list and a friend also personally recommended.) This provider was extremely responsive. The service technician spent four hours testing the system. He drained the entire system, then pressurized it with nitrogen and ran a full leak diagnostic. The technician found a leak at the connection to the condenser, but no leaks at the inside unit. The new company's technician repaired the leak, retested the system to make sure it remained pressurized, and we have not had a problem since. We have been trying to get a someone senior at House of Heat to return our calls as we are requesting a full refund. We were deeply disappointed by the company's service technicians, professionalism, and customer service and would strongly recommend no one use this provider.

Response from HOUSE OF HEAT
Customer requested air conditioning service. We went to job and added refrigerant as we had done one year before. A couple of weeks later the customer called and said that the unit was not working again. We returned and added refrigerant and located the refrigerant leak. A follow up visit was scheduled for the owner of House of Heat to come out to discuss options. The appointment for the follow up meeting was canceled by the customer. Approximately one week later a complaint was posted on Angie's list. The customer did not complain directly to us nor were we given an opportunity to resolve the customer's dissatisfaction.

Description of Work: Made appointment with them the previous week and explained in detail what the problem was (that the pressure relief valves were leaking on two furnaces and needed to be replaced...and that I also wanted them to check and adjust the pressure in the expansion tanks and adjust if necessary). I also explained that I also needed an annual cleaning for each of them. They told me that someone would be there on 4/14 between 10 and 10:30. At 11a.m on 4/14 no one had yet to show up or even bother to call...so I called them. About 40 minutes later Marty showed up without even an apology. I had to explain to him all of the above and he told me that he didn't have time to clean anything. He only fixed one of the furnaces, and even argued with me about that. He could have done both, instead, I lost a day of work and I will have to take off another day to get the rest of the work done. The other furnace is still leaking and I have been emptying out 5 gallon buckets everyday because I cannot afford to take off another day right now. Marty was also a macho jerk! I am a woman but I am very handy. When he told me how much the pressure relief valve would cost, I asked him if it was manufactured by the furnace company or if it was after market. He told me it was after market. I told him that I could buy it from the furnace manufacturer for 28.50 myself and he wanted to charge me twice that amount. He got smart alecky with me and said, "Well, do you have the part?" I said no. So he went back to the shop and brought back only one valve. I needed two. He said he'd have to do it another time. He also acted like I just called that day when, in fact, I had scheduled the appointment the previous week. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I chose this company because it looked like it had good marks and it had a lot of reports. I see now that choosing someone based on the number of reports can be misleading. I feel sorry for the other chumps who got work done from these crooks who take advantage of women, people who don't know much about furnaces, and who have no respect for people's time and money.

Customer requested service. Upon arrival one boiler relief valve was leaking. We determined that the cause of valve leaking was a faulty expansion tank. We replaced the leaking relief valve and expansion tank. We also recommended replacing the pressure guage. The customer declined guage replacement. At the end of the visit we noted that the customer would call us to schedule boiler maintenance and possible guage replacement. The customer signed the workorder and paid us $248.88 We did not hear from that customer again. Approx. 45 days later the customer posted the complaint on Angie's List. We have been in business in Oak Park sice the mid 1950's. It is rare that we do not work out a resoloution to a complaint from a customer. The customer did not complain directly to us nor did she request any other service.

Our records are very thorough and go back decades, every effort has been made to transfer all of our customers to our new systems upon upgrade. We have no record of anyone with this address, name, or anything close to them having received service or called our company. While it is possible that somehow the record was lost, it is near impossible for someone to completely disappear from our records, written or digital.
