Budget Right Kitchens

Dirk was very professional, courteous and responsive. He had good ideas and suggestions. A+ on communication and interpersonal skills! The plans were delivered as promised.

I have a small kitchen and I want to make good use of the space. We discuss my needs the drawings were emailed to me as promised. I would use the service again.

We are planning on remodeling our kitchen in a few years and wanted to get some ideas. We discussed options and benefits/disadvantages of each. The provided us with a drawing of what we decided was the best option.

It took too long (about 4 weeks) to remodel the 5'X8" bathroom, especially that I have provided the basic material from the beginning. The job was basically done in 2 weeks. But, it had taken additional 2 weeks to finish it, because the contractor took on another job somewhere in the vicinity and kept sending unqualified workers to do the finishing at my bathroom.

He made what we expected from him and he gave us a plan. He was amazed with us. I am not sure how this review was entered. Probably through a conversation with Angies List rep over the phone. No more verbal reviews from me! Dirk provided a plan that was based on the kitchen and dining area converted to a kitchen. Just the way the conversation went that day we felt like that really was not what we wanted but was based on what Dirk thought was best for resale value etc. It was good detailed plan but we were not ready for such a drastic change.

This was part of an Angie's List Big Deal. Dirk was very personable and courteous and provided exactly what I was looking for. Dirk came by to take measurements and give an estimate of labor for a complete bathroom, kitchen and basement remodel. We met at a showroom and worked through a kitchen layout and it really jump started my renovation. He really listened and gave a lot of good ideas. It was completely worth the $45. We didn't use Dirk for the renovation just because the pricing was too high. I have complete confidence that the renovation would have gone perfectly with Dirk and his company, but we had a relatively small house and a lot of work to do. It wasn't worth the value of the house to put that much money into it. If we only had one project - such as the kitchen, we would have gone with Dirk in a heartbeat. He was very professional when we let him know that we weren't going to use his services. Class act.

It went really well. He was real professional and listened to our ideas. He bounced some ideas off of us to see what we wanted to do. This is our first house, so it was nice to have ideas come towards us, rather than us trying to come up with something. I would use them again.

They were really good. Very prompt in coming to meet with me. They did a nice design for me but I did choose someone else.

The plans were fine. We did not go with this company for the actual renovation. The drive to the showroom was scary. Had to drive through the Austin neighborhood.

I was here for him. He was awesome. He came on time. He gave us the design and recommendations. What they do, is a little out of our range. We thought the quote was pricey. He was on time. If I had the money, I would use him in the future.

We were very happy with the results.

Dirk came to my kitchen and did measurements. Because there is work already going on in the kitchen he worked around it. I received his design the next day and was very happy about it.

Signed up for the Angie's special of a kitchen plan for $45.00. The owner of Budget Right Kitchens, Dirk, arrived on time for our scheduled meeting, he spent about 20 minutes measuring the kitchen and appliances, He suggested a number of options that I might consider, gave me information on rough costs of labor and material, and he left promising to get back to me with a plan. By the end of the day he emailed a plan showing what went where, how many cabinets would be needed and sizes of each cabinet. It was perfect for my use and gave me a clearer idea of how much it might cost.

They were here right away. He was great. He did not pressure me at all. He laid it all out for me and said here is what I could do for you. He did say that we were basically squared away. We were showing him a kitchen layout and asked him what he thought. He gave us a couple of ideas that worked out really well. He was really good and it was a good interaction. He came up with ideas pretty quick. He was knowledgeable enough to give us a realistic idea of what was possible. He was very professional, polite and easy going. He definitely was not trying to hustle anybody. He was 15 minutes late. He was super cool and it was not awkward at all. I liked Dirk. I would use them again.

He did an excellent an excellent job. The only problem was that after he did the design for us, we were out of his area to actually do the work. That was a little upsetting because we wanted the work done also, but the design was perfect.

Great experience. I was remodeling my kitchen by expanding it by getting rid of the eat-in kitchen side where by kitchen table was. I was basically changing my house from having a kitchen table and dining table, to just a dining table and counter with stools. My kitchen is average size, but not wide enough for a large island with stools. I was trying to get design ideas and cost estimates. The owner provided me with a set of plans that completely fit the bill, I liked the plans a lot, but was a little bit unsure if I should go for it because I had never thought of the design he came up with before, and I had several plans swimming around in my head at the time. I then hired a local kitchen designer to come up with a few design ideas. I paid more then $300 for these and didn't end up going with any of them. Turns out, the more I thought about it, the more I loved what Budget Kitchen Design came up with. I ended up going with his design and absolutely love it. The only reason I didn't use him was because I was trying to do the remodel on a very tight budget and ended up doing the tear-down myself, and "Piece-mealing" the project.

The guy came out, he looked it over and I got a nice plan out of it. Budget Right Kitchens was pretty quick to come out. I was very satisfied with what was offered. He came out and he is a nice man. It was good. He had some good ideas in there and I was satisfied.

I am not sure that I got four hours of labor because it happened while I was gone. They did an okay job. The secretary called me and told me that I owed them for supplies and I said not I just purchased labor, I offered to buy the painting supplies and they said no we bring our own. This is what one of the owners told me. I think his name was Dirk; he usually answers the phone. She called me back a few days later and said that I owed them $29 for supplies; I said not I do not, I only purchased labor, and she goes okay. I did not pay the $29. That was it. I told them to paint the areas that we put our feet on first, and then do anything else that they can do after that. I can see where he started doing some of the painting on the railings and then stopped. He did a couple of strokes here and a couple of strokes there and then there is a half a can of paint left over. I did pay for four hours of work. Why paint half a railing here and half a railing there, why not just finish the one railing. There were a couple of little areas where he missed. I had a porch swing that I did not want anymore, so I gave it to Dirk. He did make it clear that they are big handyman people. They want big jobs. The little tiny thing was more of an annoyance to them. I had to call them a couple of times; trying to set it up and he did not call right away. I had to call to make sure that they were coming. He was reluctant on coming out and looking at the job; he was punctual and very professional. I would not use them again.

I bought a big deal. My experience with them was okay. The guy had some good ideas, but I think his plans were way out of line for what we were looking for in our neighborhood, so it just did not seem like it made a lot of sense. He was proposing a $75000 project in a neighborhood where we would never in one million years see that kind of investment made on a kitchen. He was not really listening to kind of what we were wanting. I am sure he is probably good at what he does, but for the practicality of what we were looking for was just not in line. You are not investing $75000 in a kitchen of a house that is worth $200,000; it does not make any sense. It did not cost me more than the big deal purchase coupon.

Dirk was extremely helpful and thoughtful, giving us several options to help stay within budget and a list of recommended suppliers, then quickly getting back to us with the promised 3D drawings and quote. As part of our kitchen remodel exploration, we got three other quotes, and while one came in lower than Dirk's, his quote was very competitive. Overall, we were so impressed with Dirk's ideas and communication (both style and speed of response to our many questions) that we decided to move forward with him as our contractor on the project. Throughout the renovation, communication was outstanding between Dan (the foreman) and us, and between Dan and Ted (who did the majority of the labor). Dan updated us daily on progress and unforeseen issues, and confidently fielded our questions as well as several changes to the project during the process. Work was generally completely on schedule, with the only delays related to scheduling inspections and a countertop back-order. In addition, Budget Right had a phenomenal list of sub-contractors that they recommended to us -- without pressuring us to choose their guys. We quoted out their sub-contractors (for custom cabinets, countertops, electrical and floors), and they mostly came in below quotes we received from other highly recommended Angie's List contractors that we had identified, so we sent with Budget Right's preferred guys, and paid them directly as part of the job. The project took about 2 months, and the final product completely transformed our home, adding both a high-end look and much better flow to a large space. I recommend Budget Right highly!

It was okay. We just had some ideas from the drawing and designing our kitchen. We didn't go with him because they were pretty expensive. He came out pretty quickly and he was helpful with the drawings and stuff.

I used an Angie’s List Big Deal coupon for this service and it was priced correctly. They were prompt and on time. I would have liked some out-of-the-box layouts, but overall I was satisfied.

They gave me the full plans as agreed. Dirk was very helpful and professional - gave me lots of good ideas with no pressure to use them for the actual work. The plans included recommended suppliers for cabinets, flooring, etc. When I purchased the service for the plan alone I had no intention of using Budget Right but the experience was very positive and I'll consider them when I do the work.

Dirk came out to our house and talked through a gut renovation of our kitchen in an 1888 Victorian. He had good ideas and drew up a set of plans. We met him at a cabinet place to price out cabinets, countertops, etc. We were very happy with his plans, his professionalism, our perception that he would do very high quality work, but in the end it was too expensive for our budget.
