Budget Right Kitchens

The owner was very nice, personable and took his time to listen to what I was looking for. The price was great, and he said he'd be happy to make changes to the plans he drafted if I was really serious about doing the work. I appreciated all of that. What I wasn't impressed with, was the fact that the plans did not take into account much of what I had said I wanted. I spoke to him about keeping, and maybe increasing natural lighting with the remodel of my kitchen for example. The plans included cabinetry in place of the biggest bay window we have, which would have eliminated most of the natural lighting we now have, without any discussion or consideration of how the lighting would be remedied. Despite the good meeting I felt like I was having with the owner, the fact that those important factors seemed to be ignored, I wouldn't likely use this company to do the re-designing for my home.

This is a nice little deal. There are a lot of ways to go about starting a kitchen remodel and this method is as good as any. The value is you get 1) someone to come give you kitchen measurements, 2) a preliminary design, 3) budget assistance and 4) access to an experienced contractor who can answer your remodeling questions. Dirk came to our house in the evening at a mutual agreeable time and stuck around to answer all our questions. I never felt rushed or that he was in a hurry to leave. A few days later he e-mailed the design and a labor quote to us. He left us a supplier list and we went to the cabinet showroom that was at the top of the list. We went there on a Saturday and it was very busy. A sales person finally came and showed us the different models and priced out our selection. She had our design in our system, which was nice because she was able to make some changes for us and explain why she put it together the way she did. Dirk also obtained a countertop quote for us. At that point, we had a quotes for labor, cabinets, and countertops, which was the vast majority of our budget. We ultimately ended up going with a different contractor, design, and suppliers, but this package gave us a great starting point for figuring out the cost of the remodel and comparison shopping. The reviews that complain about the cost of the labor quote and the location of the material suppliers aren't really warranted, because the deal is for a kitchen design.

Great! Dirk was prompt, polite and professional. He listened to our ideas and provided many possibilities before measuring and taking notes. His plans were e-mailed to us within 24 hours. There was no pressure to use his services for the remodeling itself. We do not plan for him to do the remodeling.

As close to flawless as was possible! Having done multiple remodels over the years in both of our homes, we feel like we can make the previous statement. Owner Dirk Hoerr has a superb team and a great business model. From our initial contact in September 2013 to the final wrap in January 2014 timing of the various work schedules was spot-on. Contractor Dan Ahmer kept an amazing timetable that had all work flowing seamlessly. The work site was always kept sealed off from the rest of the house and cleaned up each night. We were always kept up to date on who was coming, what they would be doing and when they would finish. DO: As owners we had researched all of the products and ordered them to arrive on time for installation (sink, plumbing, cabinet handles, tile, garbage disposal). The lead carpenter, Marchin was excellent, as were all of Mr. Hoerr's employees, along with the associated businesses that he uses. Especially outstanding was Derek Electric, who put in a entire upgrade to the circuit breaker box. We were very satisfied with Mr. Floor as well. Doing this type of renovation could have had huge pitfalls--we experienced none. We are more than pleased we used Budget Right Kitchens for this project!

They were great to work with. One consultant came out to measure and gave us a few design options to choose from. He gave us a full set of plans and quotes along with it. He came prepared and was well organized and also gave a variety of options for us to choose from.

The blueprints were very useful and he provided very useful target numbers for our planning.

I was very pleased. He listened and then promised to have the projected plans to me within the week. In reality, I had them in e-mail attachments in about three hours: complete set of plans with several elevations, a list of materials that will be needed and suggested retail outlets from which to acquire them, and names of the subcontractors he employs. I was quite impressed!

I am very opinionated in my tastes, and I had some ideas for the space. Between Dirk's suggestions and those of Dan, the product manager, we have a great kitchen. They gave us a six-week timeline, and completed it in less than four. They were kind, courteous, and efficient. They were polite. It took two days to take out everything. And then it happened. The providers for other services - cabinets, electrical, floors, etc. were all top-notch. When there was a minor delay all I had to say was "Talk to Dan". Two men worked on our kitchen the entire time. Everything they did was high quality and beautifully done down to the smallest detail. They hung the cabinets and even oversaw appliance installation. I felt they were totally trustworthy. I was amazed how long and how hard they worked daily. They made suggestions, I made suggestions, and our kitchen is perfect. I could not afford a top of the line kitchen, but this one is so perfect for our house. Not only that Dirk and Dan helped us stay on budget and still get quality. I have only great things to say. I even missed them when they left. And they cleaned up totally and kept it neat all the time. Great, great people.

Buyer beware -- you don't get a "full set" of plans. You get rudimentary plans which the vendor then wants you to take to his "recommended" cabinet store (a buddy?) to get the details. I got a better set of plans free from a kitchen place on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles. His design would have had me walking half across the kitchen to reach my pots and pans, but the pantry was very close -- kind of the opposite of how we work in the kitchen. Oh, and then he went on to suggest I knock down the wall and get rid of my formal dining room. I was curious and asked him, then I'd be looking at whole new furniture to match the kitchen, and he said "Yes." Ah...not interested in my needs, but in, I don't know, trying to impress us? I won't even go into the labor costs (high). My husband used to have a remodeling business, and he humored me to get this "deal". Here's what you really get: YOU pay the guy to come out and try and get your business. Whereas my husband, and other vendors, actually go to a customer's house for FREE. Clever marketing scheme, but nothing more.

This was GREAT! i have been keeping a list of all of my other projects to call Budget Right back for another day or two of service. This was the ONLY company I called that would even consider the project - everyone else stated it was too small for them to do. Yet, it was way beyond a do it yourself project, so I'm extremely thankful that Budget Right not only said yes, but had a reasonable price. Moreover, there was an Angie's List coupon for this provider that I missed, and that was applied to our total anyway - double thanks! They really went above and beyond my expectations to install the dishwasher, and also clean up the hole so it didn't look like we jammed a new appliance into an old kitchen. Everything works great and like I said, I can't wait to book some time again.

They were more interested in selling me a remodel, without doing the drawing. I was told I could get a refund. I left a couple of messages and never got a call back. I would not use them again. I did not even get a design.

Dirk was very professional and provided exactly what I needed to make decisions on how to approach updating my townhouse. I was provided with optional layouts of the kitchen and how to optimize space. He also provide me with valuable information on general pricing. I will be using this contractor again.

Price quote for labor seemed awfully high

They came out and took measurements and gave me ideas. They came up with a plan then followed up with me. They were on time for the appointment, professional and courteous. They provided the plans by the date they said they would.

Derek was great and offered good ideas. We were wanting a second 'fresh' opinion on what to do with our kitchen re-design. We did not use his plan, but was great to see an option.

Dirk is professional, easy to talk to, and prompt. I loved the drawings he provided. I also told him that I wanted to have the linoleum in my kitchen replaced with tile immediately, and he connected me with someone within his company to get that service done. My only suggestion for this service would be to provide a more professional looking estimate / invoice system. The estimate I received for the tile installation was just a few lines written out via email. The invoice system after the work was completed was similarly outdated. I was expecting an Excel or pdf document with a company logo. It would help them maintain their professional appearance.

I purchased a kitchen mock up plan. The company was very responsive, and punctual. The plans themselves, I later learned, were similar to ones I could have done at Lowes.

Dirk was fantastic. He accommodated my schedule, answered all of my questions about a potential kitchen redesign and issues that may arise (we will be limited by certain structural and plumbing issues) and provided some great money-saving advice. He also took a look at our basement and was very honest about changes that would be high in cost, but not necessary. He delivered the CAD design and price quote quickly, answered some additional questions via email and was just remarkably professional throughout. I keep the CAD drawing on my refrigerator as a reminder of what my kitchen can (and will) be one day. And when we are able to undertake the renovation, we will be using Budget Right Kitchens.

Dirk was a true professional. I have a small kitchen, he developed a plan that involved knocking out a load bearing wall and expanding into my sunroom. He did not give us an estimated cost for this project because this is not something we are prepared to move forward on at this time. But he did give us measurements for the required cabinetry when the time is right.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was fine. I would recommend them again.

The provider contacted me within 24 hours of buying the Deal and set an appointment 5 days away. Jeff was early for the appointment and completed the work in the closet quickly. We discussed the cabinets, which had been incorrectly installed, and set an appointment for him to come back and reinstall them. Additionally, since I'd lost the outlets I bought, he would bring outlets and install them at the 2nd appointment. Jeff was right on time again and completed all the work in less time than he had estimated. He pointed out another cabinet issue I had not noticed, and we discussed options to resolve it. Jeff is not only professional but a personable guy. I'll be giving Budget RIght Kitchens another call for sure.

He provided an idea for a kitchen upgrade. I was hoping for a couple more drastic changes in the ideas but I know he was working with a small space in our kitchen. Overall, Dick was great. Very professional, knowledgeable and honest. If you are looking at a kitchen overhaul he is definitely should be your first call.
