To put it simply ... our experience with Baronger Group (also Oak Park Kitchen & Bath) was one of the worst experiences of my life. We hired them for a major home renovation in late 2013 and are finally shut of the project now, more than two years later. Along the way, not everything went wrong … but, eh, seems to me most things did. There was some good work done here and there. I still like our kitchen cabinets and a carpenter did some lovely work. But beyond that, there seemed to be little that could not be fouled up, or subsequently damaged if it was not first fouled up. Expensive Anderson windows were handled and painted so callously they already look old and shabby. We have new hardwood floors that are uneven, splattered with paint under the finish and sport a large double vent in the kitchen that leads (surprise!) to nowhere. A radon system, we found, was quietly left disabled. New doors and trimwork were trashed, sometimes while they were being installed, sometimes after. A new stone countertop was permanently scarred by a can of solvent. It goes on and on. And the worst, most finger-curling frustrating part of the whole process, for me, were the constant excuses. It was the subcontractors. Someone's out sick. There were indeed some real setbacks, some crazy harsh weather and flooding, but that got spun into the reason for everything. I lost count of the number of requests, plans and instructions that were unheard, ignored or simply not followed. For days at a time, either no one showed up or maybe one small task got done. In the end, they just stopped showing up at all. This was just our experience; I know others have had good outcomes with this company. But awful, awful, awful.
Description of Work: Whole-home remodel, including kitchen, three bathrooms, walls-out renovation in 100-year-old home. New windows, doors, floors, basement, flood control, all electrical and plumbing, exterior stucco, some exterior hardscape and stone.

Ron and his team completely remodeled our Master bathroom, tearing it down to the studs and starting over. They were very helpful in the design process upfront and worked with us on ways to save cost where appropriate. In addition to remodeleing the bath, they moved and replaced an exterior window, moved plumbing and electrical, and worked with their team to complete all of the finishes. The team was working on multiple projects at once and the project did slip several weeks after the initial estimate. That said, the team worked very hard to coordinate with the various sub-contractors and get the project complete. Once the project was completed, there were a number of touch up areas and adjustments that needed to be made. It took some time to get these completed and I wish they were more responsive, but in the end everything turned out well. After the bathroom, we also had them install a wine cellar in our basement. They were helpful with the design, ordering and construction of the cellar and generally stuck to the promised timetable. The quality of their work was top notch and we are very pleased with the result. Once again, at the end of the project there were a few loose ends that needed to be completed and it took them a long time to finally get them completed to my satisfaction. Finally, I had them more recently quote out replacing tile in my basement. They were very responsive in the quote process, offered ideas to control water overrun into the basement, and were generally price competitive. Although I decided to use another provider in the end, I was pleased with their responsiveness and ideas. In general, I am pleased with the work that Baronger has done, but their responsiveness was sometimes lacking, particularly as a project neared completion. Now that the bathroom has been in for a while, we have been having a problem with the shower door and a piece of the glass in the shower. I have contacted the company on multiple occasions, but they have not been responsive. I have tried to reach other providers for the repair, but they will not complete the repair since they didn't do the initial work. This has been very frustrating and, although I am overall pleased with the quality of their work, I am unlikely to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Services Performed: -- Complete reconstruction of the master bathroom including plumbing, electrical, moving a window and all of the construction and finishes. -- Construction of a wine cellar in our basement. Although I am pleased with the quality of their work and would recommend them to others based on quality, they were slow to address "punch list" items at the end of the projects and have been unresponsive to a repair inquiry that I have made several times on the bathroom they remodeled. See below for further detail, but this is the reason for why I say I am unlikely to use them again in the future.

The quality of the work was very good. They were the best price of the five bids we considered. They were helpful in the design process. Throughout the whole job, they were flexible with any changes we wanted to make. They asked for our opinion all the way through the work, and they listened to what we wanted. We appreciated having that freedom. During the process, our roof started leaking into the kitchen, and they were quick to recommend a contractor to come out the next day to repair it at a good price.

HIS PLANS WERE NOT FEASIBLE, RATHER RUDIMENTARY AND TOOK A VERY LONG TIME. WE PAID $1500 FOR A DESIGN FEE AND WE ENDED UP CREATING THE DESIGNS OURSELVES. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS FRUSTRATING AND A WASTE OF OUR TIME AND MONEY.

THEY DID DAMAGE TO OUR PROPERTY, REQUIRED PAYMENT ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT WAS IN THE WRITTEN CONTRACT. THEY WERE EXTREMELY RUDE AND TOOK FAR LONGER THAN THE CONTRACT STIPULATED. THERE IS NO REASON TO USE THIS COMPANY. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM. HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE.
