Excellent! See above.
Description of Work: I called AllPro after having both electricians from different renovations come out and not solve our problem (flickering lights in our entire house). When I talked to AllPro and explained my issue and the history of our electrical issues he said it could cost thousands and a lot of time to find the location of the problem in the house (wiring behind walls, etc). He suggested that I first call ComEd to come out and check the connections to our house. That night the lights in part of our house kept losing power. We called ComEd and they found a bad connection outside of our house, fixed it early that morning, and we haven't had any issues since then. I just want to thank AllPro for being honest with us and saving us a ton of money that we can't afford to spend! We will definitely be calling AllPro for any future electrical issues. Thanks again!

It could not have been easier for us. His work was competent and efficient and he offered good advice. It was the best experience we've ever had with a contractor.
Description of Work: We moved in to our old Oak Park home last month and Dan Smiley from All Pro Electrical Contractors replaced most of our electrical outlets, switches, and some ceiling fixtures.

I have used this company on two occasions now. I have had Dan out for both visits and he is a pleasure to work with. He is very courteous and polite and his work has been exceptional. For this job, I had him install two ceiling fans in two separate rooms. One room already had an existing electrical box present so he only had to assemble and hang the new fan. The other room had no existing box so he had to make a hole in the ceiling to place a new box and run wires to it, then assemble and install the fan which included adding a remote control device to the fan. All work was reviewed verbally before it was started and any possible complications were discussed ahead of time. All furniture and the floor was covered with drop cloths in the room that he cut a new hole in before the work started and he cleaned up after any minor mess made. The work was finished within a few hours and I am very happy with the result. I have used this company in the past to install new basement lighting fixtures and repair existing fixtures and I was happy with that job too. I hightly recommend this company and I will be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: He installed two ceiling fans. He cut a hole in the ceiling and installed a new electrical box and ran wires to it and then assembled and hung a 52" fan, including installing an external remote control. The second fan was a 42" fan that was assembled and hung in a room that already had an existing box.

He made a professional and honest impression. When he came for the estimate, he looked at the box in the basement and told us right away that for a 100+ year old house, it didn't look too bad. He came one business day later to perform the work and we received a written report the day after. He suggested that we use a certain outlet for a room air conditioner rather than a more obvious one and told us which circuit was at capacity and what he could do if it caused trouble. It was exactly what we needed. I would certainly use him again.
Description of Work: Mapping of existing electrical circuits in old house (which outlets were on what switch). Replaced two switches. Spent about two hours at the house.

Myron is fantastic. Myron told us where to get the corroded components of the no-longer-made fixture rebuilt, and then rewired the fixture. All for $100. We are now going to use Myron on a more expensive job, upgrading to 100 amp service on one of our rental properties.

After a nighttime rain storm, we discovered that we had an electrical malfunction somewhere between the electric meter and the breaker box. In addition to calling the electric company, I called All Pro immediately the following morning. Myron was incredibly responsive and made an appointment to come out early that afternoon. Even before he arrived, he graciously took a call from the gentleman from the electric company who was at our house so that the problem could be described. Myron and Dan very quickly made the repairs, resulting in only a minimal power disruption for us. I greatly appreciated All Pros expedient and quality service. I would hire them again and recommend to others.

Myron and Dan were prompt in arriving for the projects, they kept me well informed on the status of the project and any issues they encountered and let me know of any additional costs they anticipated in advance of doing the work; and they made extra efforts to make friends with our two dogs. They were friendly, professional, respectful of our home and very knowledgeable of their craft, but also of the issue of older homes such as ours. We were very pleased with the service and the quality of their work, and we will use AllPro again for future electrical needs..
Description of Work: We first contacted AllPro Electrical Contractors due to an issue our roofers uncovered that required moving the main service line into our home. Myron Sharp the owner returned my call promptly and also responded with a visit to our home the same day to answer my questions and provide us with a quote. Myron was very educational in his approach to the job and explained all the steps in the process we could expect and also helped us determine that we needed a larger capacity service for our older home. Once we decide on them as the contractor of choice and got the permit, Myron and Dan immediately began the work needd so the roofers could finish their project. As my husband was reviewing other projects in our home we also determiend that there were electrical repairs (additional lighting in closets, stairwells, realignment of wiring in basement, etc.) that needed to be accomplished and we determined to have AllPro do these as well while they were going to be in our home.

The experience was so very pleasant. I got an immediate response to my call to Allpro. Dan Smiley was the electrician who came to our house. While he was not able to fix one wall fixture, he did take it apart as best he could and tried to fix it but since it is an antique he suggested we take it into an expert. He also tried to fix a bed "touch" light but needs a specialty part which he has promised to try to find for us, and I believe he will. He was a gentleman, polite and experienced. We would definitely use Allpro again. Thank you Angie's list!

I really have mixed feelings about this experience. These guys really seemed to know what they were doing, explained everything in detail about what had to be done and problems that they encountered. They were really nice and I liked them except... My final price was about $300 more then I had verbally been quoted (shame on me for not getting a written estimate). I did expect it to be a bit more because there were a few unforeseen challenges. However, my biggest disappointment was in the clean-up that we were left with. There was snow on the ground, and salt on the stairs on the day that the work was done. They were in and out of the house a lot and never brushed off, took off or covered their boots. I was not there when they started and when I got there it was kind of bad but bearable but then they continued to go in & out of the house all day without any regard to the newly finished hardwood floor and just general respect that this was someone's home. I did not expect the mess that I was left with. I had puddles and grit everywhere. They also just left plaster dust etc. on counters & floor wherever they worked. If you put drop cloths everywhere & get a written estimate then go ahead and hire them because I do have confidence that they know their business.

Response from AllPro Electrical Contractors
Thank you for taking the time to read my response. As the client said there was substantially more to do than was originally estimated. We have 2 types of estimates. The first is a proposal. When the work is strait forward as in a kitchen remodel, a service upgrade or anything were the scope of work can be identified a fixed bid is given. However when the job is repair work an estimate is given just like having your car repaired. I am very careful to clarify the difference when on an appointment. On the clean up when we arrived the snow was not shoveled and the client covered everything in a layer of salt. We wiped our feet every time we entered and exited but it was hard to not leave some mess in this condition. The home we worked in was occupied by 2 sons and there was stacks everywhere which made it difficult to access the area to be worked in. We used drop cloths and swept up after ourselves, considering the conditions I think we did well.. Again, thank you for taking the time to read our response; please look at our reports where we have completed work for a more comprehensive picture of our craftsmanship.

During the planting of our garden, we accidentally severed the electrical line that carried power from the house to the garage. It was no wonder as the "cord" was more like an appliance wire that was buried less than 6 inches from the ground! We collected 4-5 estimates for the work. We selected Allpro as they were quite knowledgeable about Oak Park building codes, their recommended solution allowed for expansion in the future and their estimate was somewhere in the middle. Myron runs the company and was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the entire project. Myron was present from the beginning to the end and we really felt as though Myron was our partner. Myron was very accommodating in helping us maintain the budget of the project. Not only did he suggest that we dig the 3' trench between the house and the garage ourselves, but he gave us detailed specifications and recommendations on tool rental places. Myron's service was personable and really went above and beyond. For example, while digging the trench, we called Myron to verify the angles and the depth. Even though it was a weekend, Myron was quite happen to stop over and look at our progress. The completion of the project was fast and the quality of Allpro's work (Myron and his assistant) was exemplary. Not only did he obtain the necessary permits from the village, but Myron was on-site during the inspection and there were few changes that needed to be made. While looking at our existing service during the estimation process Myron noticed and recommended making changes to how we were grounding our house. Few of the contractors that we met with were this detail oriented. Overall, we were quite happy with our experience with Allpro. We will definitely use him again for our future electrical projects and have recommended him to all of our friends.

We had a problem with one of our light fixtures where the light would flicker and hum. Although the work was a small scale project, All Pro scheduled service that week. Very professional about scheduling, follow-up, accessibility, etc. Received a call 15-20 minutes prior to arrival. Myron found the problem very quickly (the switch didn't match the fixture) and gave a very good explanation regarding the problem. He also replaced the switch with matching components from his inventory and completely eliminated the problem. I also appreciated the little "value-add" things that he did. He also investigated the fixture itself and found an LED bulb that was shearing. He pulled the bulb and explained the installation for when I get a replacement. He also looked at some fan switches that I thought needed replacement. Good thing I asked, because the problem was with me! Reasonable prices and great service. I told Myron that I will stick to what I'm good and will just call him if I have problems in the future. He agreed. :)

We have used them a couple of times. He is very neat and prompt in getting back to you. He is not overly expensive. I like the promptness and the fact that when he does the work, everything seems to work and you don't have to call him back. Actually, we did call him back after the first time he worked on something for us. He installed 3 lights outside our home. One of them stopped working and he came back right away to fix it. He didn't actually fix it, but we managed to fix it the second time. There was that problem, but other than that, his work was fine.

Allpro was professional and prompt. When I called to schedule the work Myron answered immediately and worked with me to find a date and time to come to my home that worked with my busy schedule. He and his associate quickly diagnosed and fixed our problem. We would absolutely use his services again.

He did a nice job and he is an excellent electrician. My jobs are always complicated because it's an older building he has to figure it out before he starts the work. Most of the time it's difficult to figure out before digging it but he is good at that. The only issue is that his cost is not cheap but most of the plumbers and electricians are not cheap. I have worked with quite a few electricians and they are all very expensive.

During my dealings with Myron concerning the inspection of the electrical service, I was impressed with his technical expertise. Since I am familiar with electrical design work, I was able to appreciate the fact that when he made comments or suggestions, they related to necessary and desirable features of a project, in contrast to cosmetic changes that mainly add to the price of the work. In the future, if I had major electrical work to be perform, I would place Myron at the top of my list.
Description of Work: In the process of preparing for a re-roofing of my house, I discovered that I had to have a deteriorated wooden mast replaced. Since this mast supported the service entrance wires, I decided to have AllPro evaluate the already upgraded connection for soundness. Myron came out and confirmed that the condition of the connections was satisfactory-and at my request, provided me with contact information for a carpenter who could perform this somewhat specialized mast replacement. I subsequently had the carpenter replace the mast, and was very happy with the results.

called All Pro because they're local to Oak Park and a father-son operation (I prefer single-person contractors whenever possible). Myron Sharp is the main guy and his son helps him with the work. I hired Myron to upgrade my old fuse boxes (which were a mess with 3 daughter boxes off the main one) to a 200 amp service with circuit breakers. Upon hearing what I wanted, Myron proceded to explain to me exactly how he'd prefer to do it and what components he'd use and why. I was very happy with his choice of breaker panel. He got a large (40 breaker capacity) Siemens panel for me and explained that it was the only panel that large on the market anymore with a copper hot bus. Apparently all of the other brands are using aluminum because it's cheaper. I of course agreed with him that an extra 60-70 dollars for the hardware was worth it for a better conducting material. After stopping by same-day to take a look, he gave me an estimate right away and explained what the process was - he'd get a permit, do the work, and arrange for an inspection. The inspection would trigger ComEd to come out and replace the lines (which are old and cross over the neighbors yard which isn't to code) for which I'd probably be charged about $600. It was good to know this up front. His estimate came exactly where I wanted it and I had him do the work right away. On a Friday we were able to schedule as early as Tuesday. Tuesday Myron arrived with his son and worked all day doing the work. In the meantime, he was able to run me temporary power so that I could keep my fishtank running partially while the power to the house was out. At the end, the work Myron did was beautiful. It was an immaculately professional job - the wiring inside the breaker box looks as organized and clean as what you'd see in a datacenter (when I commented on this Myron mentioned that he used to wire datacenters). I am extremely happy with the work and with Myron and think the cost was reasonable and well worth it. Highly recommended

Myron and his son were professional and courteous from start to finish. When he gave our estimate, he explained that our setup was a little unusual in that our line comes through a neighbor's yard. He said he'd need to get permission from ComEd before pulling another line (so that we weren't stalled later if ComEd saw this was unusual and wouldn't approve of the setup). None of the other contractors who gave us estimates for this work thought ahead like that, which could have left us with a delay later. On the day the work was to be done, the team showed up early, and went out of their way to run an extra power line to my wife, who works from home, so she could continue working. The work was completed by the afternoon, as anticipated, and everything was left very clean. Myron needed to remove a couple of shelves in our basement to make room for the new, larger, box, and was sure not to make any changes without first asking us. He was very professional, and a pleasure to work with. We expect we'll be calling him for work in the future.

It was a challeng finding parts. The bulb was a 175 watt mercury vapor lamp with a standard base. The little controller part had some numbers on it, First, no store in the Chicago area had a bulb like that. A couple were listed on the internet, but when I tried to buy them, I was told they are out of stock and the manufacturer has stopped making them. But they are available in a "Mogul base". So, I found an adapter on the web that adapts a standard base socket to a mogul base bulb. The controller was a big challenge. That part does not exist. Big problem - the controller sits on top of the light - and seals out the weather! I bought a generic sort of light controller. Myron took it to his shop and was able to fit the generic controller into the plastic fitting of my old controller. He put it all together - the custom built controller and the mogul base bulb in the adapter socket - and when we switched on the power it all worked like a charm. Myron said, "After 26 years in the business, I can still find new challenges." Oh, and Myron always stayed in touch, calling ahead when he was coming over. Always prompt.
Description of Work: The problem was a very old yard light on the back of my house that quit working. I did not want to get a new light because new siding had been installed around the base of the light. To take off the old light would mean a big hole in the siding. Myron worked with me on the project. He said we needed at least two parts - a new bulb and the electric eye controller (turns light on at night and off in the daytime). To save his expensive time, I went on a scavenger hunt. Then, he worked with the parts and got my light working again.

Myron is professional, knowledgeable and extremely pleasant. He came up with the idea to run the circuit on the outside of the house (rather than knock open walls on the inside) and took extreme care to make sure it looked good. He also suggested putting both second floor air conditioners on one 20 amp circuit, and everything else on another one -- another great idea. He's very personable and really seems to enjoy his work. Excellent cleanup, too. A funny story: The day he came for an estimate, he and I walked into the basement and there was an opossum sitting next to the wall. My husband wasn't home, and Myron volunteered to shoo it out. I went upstairs and he spent at least 10 minutes nudging the critter out the door. It wasn't his problem, but what a nice guy!

Called on 8/19 and left a message. Got a return call within 10 mins. from Myron the owner. He asked me if I was sure that the problem was the switch. After describing the problem he agreed it was the switch and told me someone would be out at 7:30 am the next day. His son, Dan, arrived on time but did not have the proper part with him. Dan said he'd be back around noon. Got a call from Myron about 11:30 saying Dan was on his way and Dan arrived and within an hour had the new switch installed and it works beautifully. Past experience working with people in the trades has not been anywhere near this pleasurable. Dan and Myron are professional and most importantly reliable and competent. I would definetly use them again!!
