The can't seem to do it. ATD over charged me by $170 - $280 since last October and are following through with a threat to cancel my service. The charges have been added to my account in error. They say they're taking them off and refunding the $ but they have yet to provide an accurate and complete accounting of the services for the year 2017. ADT did poor work when they installed a new system several years ago. They can't seem to manage their billing system. Gotta say, I'm done with them.

When I was discussing the project with the sales person / installer, certain "promises" were made - for example we did not want the key fob which I was told could be exchanged for less expensive installation. At the end of the installation I was told that the fobs were included and that they could not be traded in to reduce the price. A case of bait and switch or another lying scum bag salesman.
Description of Work: Installation of alarm system, 3 door sensors and a number of glass break sensors.

My complaints begin when I cancelled my service. I did not agree to a Cancellation Fee. I was informed of the existence of this fee of course after an ADT Employee made a persistent but failed attempt to get me to transfer service to my new address following a request to cancel service on September 12, 2014. I also immediately contacted the salesperson who sold me the system, Steve Henrickson out of the office in Oak Brook, IL. I was pleased with the fact that he responded within less than 24 hours. However, he blamed me for not knowing about this cancellation charge, claiming that I should have known since I asked so many questions. By the way my questions were mostly regarding functionality. I was quite disappointed with how I was treated. He also stated that ADT has long contract periods because, ?it takes 2 years for ADT to just break even; without this cancellation fee ADT would be out of business.? I doubt that statement is true, particularly in my case, since I paid $1,000 for the installation. After all this, he tried to sell me another system and tried to get me to give him a reference where he could sell a new owner on the service. I asked him to send me a copy of the actual contract I signed; I no longer have a copy. I requested a copy of the contract but he said I would have to contact corporate. Following my conversation with Steve Henrickson on Saturday, September 13, 2014, I continued to contact ADT on multiple occasions over the next few weeks to provide a copy of the original contract with my signature that was executed when I signed up for the system. Next thing I know, I was contacted by a debt collection agency. As of November 8, 2015, I am still disputing this debt, as the debt continues to be transferred/sold to other debt collection agencies. No one seems to be able to produce this contract with my signature to verify that this is valid. Who knows? Maybe the collection attempts will continue for many years to come. I am the kind of person who pays all of my debts, and this is the first time I have ever had to deal with a collection agency. As a result of how I was treated, I will definitely never use or recommend ADT again.
Description of Work: They installed a Pulse Security System for which I paid a $1,000 installation fee. I kept the system active for 2 years.

Only one person came out and it took him about three hours. He did great job. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He left the area cleaned.

It was fine. They did a good job of reviewing what we needed. The price was competitive and the installation was done smoothly. Their company has been here for a long time and they're competitive. They weren't the cheapest but they weren't the most expensive.
Description of Work: I've used them for alarms. It's $47 a month for monitoring.

Had several problems including thermostat batteries going dead two times. The dealer sent two technicians and a supervisor out for over 6 hours to recalibrate the entire system, change the thermostat and make sure all was well. The system has worked perfectly since then.

When they came, they said that nearly everything else I had needed to be upgraded. They applied very high-pressure sales tactics that made me very uncomfortable. I felt like I was dealing with the mob! Mike was the person that came. When I called ADT corporate office, they said they weren't responsible for the local subcontractors. I was very displeased.

overall the ADT service was ok, but decided to try a different company because ADT was having trouble figuring out how to put a sensor on my garage doors. They stuck me with a 30 day notice to cancel service (although it didn't take them 30 days to start service when i picked them up). Seems like a dumb way to kick customers on their way out the door. Before that I didn't have any particular complaint, but now i am annoyed and will never use them again.

System installed in 2007, but since 2012 nothing but issues regarding lack of Call Center professionalism, to getting the run around regarding defective equipment (it's broken, but no it isn't type comments). ADT is being replaced

I was very disappointed overall with my experience with ADT. I scheduled an appointment to allow enough time to get off work and come home at the scheduled time (5-10 minutes). About an hour before the scheduled appointment I got a call on my cell and the technician had arrived early causing me to either leave work early and run home or reschedule. I chose to rearrange my schedule, leave work early and run home. It was clear from the beginning this guy was only interested in signing me up and locking me into a $50 monthly service for 3 years. Since I asked him to quote an upgrade of my system with and without the monthly service he spent the whole time trying to convince me otherwise. He also told me the $300 off deal wouldn't count either if I didn't sign up and a stand alone install would make the equipment much more money. I finally got him to agree to quote me an upgrade with and without so I could decide myself and he promised to write it up both ways. When he left he promised to have his quotes back to me the next day. I never heard back from him again. The experience was frustrating and ended up being a big waste of my time.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I contacted ADT on-line to get an estimate to upgrade/replace my existing alarm system. They were running a lot of advertisements for $300 off an installation and thought some new technologies would improve my security. The person they scheduled was Keith Nunnally.

The instalation was fine. I signed a 2 year contract. At the end of year 3, they would not hold up to their end of the contract. Though it is written in the contract that customers in the state of Illinois can give one month's written notice of intent to stopservice (after the inital 2 years) they insisted on demanding that I am to give them 1 year written notice. They still bill me for the balance of the year and refuse to respond to all the letters I have sent them. The office that sent out the installation crew and where the salesman worked is closed as ADT is buying up and cosolidating everything. Basically they bully you into paying them or they report it to the credit agencies. Be warned if you sign a contract with them it may to hard and expensive to get out of.

On Feb. 12, 2011, at 8:30, I tried to call ADT to get ahold of someone because the technician had not called or shown up. In speaking with Stephanie, she copped an attitude, and proceeded to tell me that she did me a favor by coming over the day before..... A favor to do her job! Al Sachse ended up calling me, and purportedly this technician got stuck in traffic (WBBM News Radio it was not showing any traffic tie ups, so this was clearly a lie). He said he would be there in 10 minutes. I said, I would be leaving for work by 8:45 a.m., and that I had already missed a ton of pay because of them. Al called back and stated that the guy's GPS said he'd be there at 9:00 a.m., so again the time was getting pushed back further and further. No one could come after I got done working for the day. It is clear that the technician just didn't start at 8:00 am. Al said "There was nothing he could do, the technicians were not in his control. He offered me a "free" key alarm and one month of monitoring, but I lost way more than $100 and inconvenienced my patients because of these people. I exercised my 3 day right to cancel. I would never do business with these people again.... Al kept saying "I've never done this before. I am so sorry about the comedy of errors" but I just don't believe it. It's par for the course in my opinion.
Description of Work: They sent a sales person to the house, who did not show up. This person was origianlly supposed to come out on Feb. 4, 2011, but due to the blizzard, I was polite and contacted them telling them that my street was still not passable, and rescheduled the appointment. On Feb. 11, 2011, when the person didn't show or call, I contacte the office and the Sales Mgr said "Opps, I forgot, I've never done this before, I'll have someone come right over. They'll be there in 30 minutes." The person called, and Stephanie Hernandez clearly didn't want to come over, offering to come over later, but I had appointments. So, she came anyway, arriving in about an hour. When she tried to activate the alarm, she realized that her toy screwdriver was broken. I knew by looking at her that starting up the alarm was just not going to happen. She filled out the contracts incorrectly, overcharging me the monthly fee. I was entititled to an AARP discount. Due to my inconveneince, a technician was supposed to be at myhouse at 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 12, 2011. I told Al and Stephanie that I had to go to work, so the technician should not be late.

Overall, it was (and continues to be) a disappointing experience. When my monitoring contract is finished I will definitely switch to a different monitoring service provider. The sales rep arrived on time, knew very well the systems she could sell, explained things well, and answered questions. The installer arrived on time and finished within the alloted time. He seemed competent and I believe that he is; however, he made 2 blunders. After he left, I found out that one of the door sensors did not work. Also, when reading the user manuals for the various equipment, I found out the the secondary control panel could be AC powered to be always "on" instead of being battery powered and going to "sleep" when not used. The installer did not mention the AC power option. I called for repair service to fix the bad door sensor. The repairman seemed very competent and fixed it. He also said that the only reasonable way to power the secondary control panel is by AC so it stays on. He recommended I call the Addison office and ask for the AC power supply (which plugs into both the wall and control panel). I called and called and called. I got bounced around between about 3 departments: customer service, repair, and accounts service, I think they were. Each dept said that I should call another dept. It went full circle back to where I started. I wrote a letter to the office in Addison explaining what I had been through and requesting them to send me the plug-in power supply. After 7 weeks I have yet to hear from them. The user manual gave the make and model number of the power supply and I bought one from an internet security company ($22.) The monitoring service responds to alarms promptly. In summary, the sales and installation and alarm monitoring are okay. The customer service is pitiful.
Description of Work: Install a home security system consisting of 2 control panels (a primary and a secondary) and ten "peripheral" components, which communicate wirelessly. The primary control panel communicates with the monitoring service via cell phone. The price includes purchase of equipment and installation. A monitoring service is required for an additional monthly fee.

We postponed the final installation because we didnt have all of the finishings completed in our home. They called in November to ask if we wanted them to complete the installations and I said no, because the work in our home is still incomplete. On November 5th they charged me even though we specifically told them that we were not ready to have them complete the installation. I have called them and left 5 messages within the last week and nobody has called me back. The problem now is that they have wired our home and I have no desire to use them for our security service. Their responsiveness is horrible.

Broadview Security (formerly Brinks) and my consultant, Brian Simmons are extremely professional and designed my home security system in complete accordance with my needs. When questions came up regarding information that a phone rep. had previously provided, Brian took the time to call the office and have the phone call recording reviewed to ensure that the terms discussed with me on the phone were adhered to when providing the estimate on the system. In my opinion, he went above and beyond what I would have expected and because of his excellent service, I now have a more secure home. I am very satisfied with my overall experience with Broadview Security and I highly recommend consultant Brian Simmons in particular. Check the website for installation coupon(s) and/or ask Brian about them directly (630-715-7270). Note - I also contacted ADT about this service and they didn't bother to call me back for 5 days. Broadview was very responsive - called me immediately, had a consultant in my home for review the next day and scheduled and completed installation the next business day after that! Great service!

After 10 years with ADT, they quoted me a higher amount than Brinks to convert to a remote control system. Bob from Brinks visited the house and provided me with a quote. In the end, we decided to upgrade the quote to add a second remote control panel. The system was installed within a few days. Bob came by in the morning and reviewed everything with Chris, the installer. Chris was very professional - he wore covers over his shoes and frequently touched base with me on his progress. The process took about 6-7 hours. He asked me to test the phone and internet before he left. There was a problem with the DSL connection. Chris tried hard to fix it. I could tell he was frustrated, but he didn't give up and was able to fix it in the end. So far, the system has worked wonderfully - I love the remote control.
Description of Work: Converted our current ADT system to Brinks which included adding a glass break box, converting two door units, main panel and fire detector, replacing door monitors and batteries and providing two remote controls. They also agreed to holding our monitoring price flat for at least three years.

When the sales rep came to the house he was very professional. He went through the house and came up with his recommendations. We asked about some glass breaks, etc, and he explained why they weren,t needed with the coverage we had. This saved us some money. 4 days after the order was placed the ADT installer came to install the new system. He was very professional in installing the system explaining, it as he went. Work was completed in about 4 hours. He cleaned up all cut wires, removed all boxes,etc. Work performed was very neatly done. Explaination of how to use the system was excellant. Very pleased with the service, start to finish.
Description of Work: Replaced on old alarm system (not ADT). Representative came out and looked at the home and gave his recommendations for coverage in our house. 4 days later their service individual came to the house and installed the system as we ordered. Finished in about 1/2 a day and then taught us how to use the alarm. System is easy to operate and is working fine.

They are very good at what they do. If the alarm is tripped they call within seconds. If they are unable to get ahold of me they immediately call the police. Brink's is the best home security system out there in my view. I live alone in a large home so it is very important to me to feel safe. There are times when the alarm has gone off in error (because of my own mistake) and they have always called in well under 1 minute.

ADT came out to provide me with an estimate for a wireless alarm system for my home. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and was not pushy at all. He did not have a problem with giving me time to make a decision and research other competitors. I opted to go with ADT because of the quality of the materials they provided as well as the service they provided. Once I signed the contract, they came out quickly to install the system and walked me through the details on how to use it. I have been very happy with my alarm system.
