It was a great experience. Dave found us an excellent source for the custom cabinetry after we had trouble finding others. He helped guide us on other ideas we had and kept us realistic. He and his crew were always there on time and left the area swept and organized. The project was completed in a timely manner and we were extremely satisfied with the finished product!

this was 11 years ago, 2005. I don't think i was even a member of Angie's list 11 years ago, Anyways, I apologize, a large remodeling project can be stressful. It seems as our personalities didn't click. I usually get high marks for being easy to get along with, patient, and calm Plus, we have 11 more years of experience, now
Very very easy to work with, responsive, and excellent attention to detail. Cost and timing were the best from among several bids. Even though I was paying using insurance funds, I did not go with a low-bid. I wanted to feel comfortable with the contractor. Dave was friendly and professional, very responsive with his bid, and there were no surprises with the costs at the end. I appreciate that Lupfer was willing to do a "smaller" job compared to the many 6-figure jobs that must be out there these days. I would highly recommend Lupfer to friends and I'm sure he would do great on any remodel. My only very minor issue was the end of the project seemed to take a few follow-up calls to finish - the last painting and touch up scheduling. But it got done, and we were are extremely happy with the results.

I'm frustrated that there seems to be no recourse for this situation. I would like my money back.
Description of Work: I purchased an attic inspection for $99 and then was told by the provider that my home is out of his service area. I requested a refund and have yet to receive it. A closer reading of the Angie's List policies reveals that there are no cash refunds allowed for such situations.

He scheduled couple times. But he missed one schedule then he came to my house next time. My understanding was that he would come and check my roof and if there is any small leak or something, he would fix it. When I called him on the first time, I explained this issue to him. But the technician came and he just checked it. Then he told that some one from his office would call him for the estimates. However, no one called me on this issue. Just coming to the house and checking the roof is not acceptable for this price.

this is a really unfair review, as you bought the "roof inspection " deal for $99 which is for climbing up on your roof, inspecting it and analyzing it, also inspecting your attic for leaks and ventilation issues., and that is what we did. next time , actually read what you buy. I have another "deal" called a roof maintenance package, which includes, inspection as well as , basic caulking and shingle repair. this is the "deal" you should've purchase it costs a bit more ,, about $349 btw, sorry about the scheduling, it is the spring summer , super busy season, for roofing. and with weather issues, and all David Lupfer

We had our front walkway and porch redone with brick pavers and had to have three posts replaced. We contacted Lupfer Builders, Inc. and spoke with Dave Lupfer. He gave us an estimate immediately and since we were replacing the posts, we needed to have work done on our garage, as the posts were rotting, the side door threshold was deteriorated and the door needed to be replaced as well. Dave told us it would be a few weeks until the job would be started due to his schedule. In the meantime, our pavers were installed and Mario of BrickStone Brick Paving, Inc. was concerned about the safety of the old posts holding up the overhang. I immediately contacted Dave Lupfer and he and Mario spoke about the safety of setting up the old posts until Lupfer Builders could come out to do the work. As busy as Dave was he immediately ordered the posts, contacted me advising when the posts would be delivered and upon delivery of the posts found the time to immediately send his crew to install the new posts and complete the work on the garage. Dave's construction crew did an excellent job. We are very happy with the completed projects. This is the first time we worked with Lupfer Builders; I cannot emphasize enough what a great company this is to work with. His follow-up is great - he is in constant communication with his customer and his responses are immediate. It was so good to work with a company that genuinely cares and went out of his way to complete the job in a very timely manner due to our safety concerns. This company is wonderful and we will definitely use them in the future. Thanks Dave!

Lupfer Builders Expertise and Integrity I found that Dave Lupfer of Lupfer Builders not only has real expertise, he also has great integrity. Our house was broken into. On a Sunday afternoon, the perpetrator smashed open the front door splitting the wood door frame where the door bolts are. Naturally, we wanted the door frame fixed as soon as possible, so we could close and lock the front door of our house. The next morning, Monday, I was a little apprehensive that when I explained my urgent situation to any contractor, they would be inclined to quote rates on an emergency basis to come quickly. I had checked Angie?s list Sunday evening and found Lupfer Builders had very high ratings, and they were close by. I called Lupfer Builders early the following Monday morning. Dave Lupfer answered the phone. I explained my predicament to Dave. Dave said he could get a carpenter over to my house by 10 AM that morning and fix the door. He gave me a rough estimate over the phone. He said depending on how extensive the repairs, it could cost up to $400 or $500. Dave and one of his carpenters came before 10 AM. They assessed the damage. Dave said that they could install a whole new door frame in about 4 or 5 hours for about $400. Or, he said, they could glue and screw the split door frame back together for just a $160, and it would be almost as good as new. I couldn?t quite believe that the split door frame would be almost as good as new for $160. But I chose that option because I?m contemplating having a whole new steel security door and frame installed. And I just wanted a working front door as fast as possible. I?m amazed by the excellent job the carpenter did in gluing and screwing the split door frame back together. Only upon the closest inspection could one detect that it was repaired. Dave Lupfer, knowing that I was desperate to have my front door repaired, could have tried to hold me up, but he didn?t. Dave could have said that I needed a whole new door frame for $400. He didn?t have to suggest, upon assessing the damage, that they could do a good job repairing the split door frame for a $160, but he did. Dave had the expertise to determine a lower cost repair that worked. And he had integrity to offer me the lower priced option, when he could have easily sold me a much more expensive one. Expertise and integrity. Edward Auxer

Purchased Deal through Angie's list. Was supposed to include an attic check as well. David came when we weren't here (no request of us to be home at a particular time) and skipped the attic check. (He later admitted that "people like that" but he can tell enough from the outside.) Only called me after I followed up through Angie's list. To his credit, he did say the work needed was beyond him. Just thought the ad should have been more honest and the contractor more responsive.

The good: Dave called me back about a day after I had left him a voicemail to ask to set up an appointment for a quote on the work. He was on time for the Saturday appointment. He was nice and courteous. The bad: We did not end up using them for the job for a number of reasons. Dave did not take a single measurement either in the kitchen or bathroom. He kept saying he has been remodeling for a long time and knows how much it costs. Well, little did he know, my job entails making sure contractors in another industry have a solid management framework. A very important thing is workloading the project, which entails taking measurements and using your production rates to determine how many labor hours you need to complete the job. From there you use that in conjunction with what you pay your workers, overhead costs, and percentage of profit you want to make to price the job correctly. Not doing this means that you either quote too high and you don't get the job or too low and then you end up losing money on the job or charging the customer over what the quote was. Dave clearly would rather overcharge than lose money. He verbally told me, within two minutes of walking into my bathroom, that it would cost $9,000 to $10,000 in labor and another $3,000 for materials. Now, we have a relatively small bathroom. It is 5 ft by 9ft. They would not have to move any plumbing or electical. It was just a tear out and replace job. The bathroom was to be stripped of the drywall down to the studs for about 2/3rds of it because it was mostly tiled. They would not have to strip the ceiling. I told him that seems a bit steep of a price because he was quoting me for labor over three times what materials would cost. Rule of thumb is that labor should cost about the same as materials. I estimated on my own that the materials we wanted would be about $5,000. So the quote shouldn't be more than $6,000 for labor. Basically he would charge me ten grand for ten days of work. They must be operating on a great profit margin! I also told him we had a friend who used to do constuction come by to let us know what costs to expect and he seemed to think the bathroom can be done for a lot less. Dave then said that they could do the job for about $7,000 to $8,000. Maybe they are a company that does premium work for premium pricing but how am I supposed to trust a contractor that drops his price $2,000 in the span of 5 minutes? So does it cost $10,000 or $8,000? This is a $2,000 difference and I am not rolling in the dough here to not care about a measly two grand. Same thing in the kitchen. Without taking measurements and within 5 minutes he said it would cost $10,000 to $12,000. As you can imagine, the kitchen is about twice the size of the bathroom. We also wanted to knock down two non-supporting walls and turn around a small staircase. I think the quote for the kitchen was more reasonable but the question is why would it be the same cost in labor as our small bathroom, considering there was significantly more work in our significantly larger kitchen? Is it because he realized we were not idiots and actually knew roughly what the work should cost so he adjusted his mental quote for the kitchen to reflect what the work should actually cost, as opposed to the over 100% profit he was planning to dupe us into for the bathroom reno? Also, does the kitchen cost $10,000 or $12,000. A $2,000 difference is a lot of money. I ultimately asked him to go back to his office and do the math and get back to us with a written quote. As I expected, he never got back to us. He had also asked us what our budget was, which I always take as a red flag. Tell me what it will cost to get the work we want done and then we can decide if it fits our budget and if we need to adjust our scope of work and expectations if we need to. You don't need to know our budget so that you can then adjust what you charge us according to the fact that we could afford to pay more. I refused to tell him our budget. While I will not judge him as harshly on what he choses to charge for his services, I can certainly judge him for the severe discrepancy in the verbal quotes he provided without taking any measurements. The contractor we ended up hiring measured everything and never asked us our budget and refused to tell us a ballpark price but actually went back to his office and did the math and got back to us with a written quote and a digital rendering of our kitchen within just one week. The price for the bathroom and kitchen was about what I thought it should be. My suggestion for Dave is to not treat his customers like a cash cow, thinking that he can make an extra few grand off of people who are not as savvy as us in having done their due dilligence to figure out their rough costs. Ballpark numbers with $2,000 gaps make it seem like you are lying about the real cost of the job. Take measurements next time and do your math so you can give your customers a solid and reasonable quote with your desired profit built in. I would be very weary of any contractor that tells me the work could cost a certain price or it could cost $5,000 to more. He can decide he wants to pocket the extra $5,000 on top of the profit he is already making on the job. Some people may be gullible but not everyone is. I know Dave will respond rudely to this review, as I see he has responded similarly to other negative reviews, but this is my honest evaluation of the experience we had with him.

that was a long review, I am sorry that you did like my pricing, I was trying to be helpful in giving you a "ball park " or budget figure. I have been doing this for 25 years and know my costs, I have done hundreds of projects exactly like yours , and as a carpenter, I can look at a wall or room and see the measurements in my head. it was a standard 5'x8' bathroom , i dont need a measuring tape for that . so, sorry again, and I hope your project worked out

The crew were very polite and cleaned up well after every day. Dave was very straightforward with us on what we could do and we were confident in his suggestions. The only issues we had were scheduling... clients before us wanted more so our scheduled time got pushed back, and also took a few days longer than anticipated which was pretty inconvenient since we only have one shower! But overall things were very well done and we were happy with the results.

As part of my relocation package out of the area, we were required to repair all items that came out of our home inspection report prior to selling. We received the inspection report 2 weeks before our move, and while I was able to fix some of the minor issues, there were multiple items that I didn't have time to repair myself. I found David on Angies List, and he came out to take a look at the work the same day that I called him (when others put me on a week's waiting list). Not only was David a true professional, he also helped me successfully dispute some of the items that were on the inspection report. He supplied a fairly reasonable quote the same day, and he started the work one week later. He and his crew completed the work in one day at the quoted price, and he left the work areas in clean condition. Overall, during a very stressful time for me and my family, David came through for us in a big way.
Description of Work: We had a list of items from our house inspection that were required to be fixed as part of our relocation for my job. The list included installing 2 handrails and brackets to two sets of stairs; replacing a leaking faucet; installing a new P trap on sink; raising 10 patio pavers to reduce tripping hazard; filling a gap with asphalt between driveway and concrete garage to remove tripping hazard; and installing a dialectic union to plumbing pipe in crawl space.

I did give you a quote, it was a verbal quote. I had bid your larger project one year ago and you hired someone else, I assumed you just needed a price, which I gave you, to compare to the previous contractors you hired
The hardest part of this project was getting a date set for the work, but I'm very happy with the work! Dave first came out to see the kitchen and made a couple recommendations (such as replacing an old fluorescent light fixture). I had everything ready for his team (except for a trowel which he went and purchased). His team was very professional and hard working, and did a good job cleaning up after they finished. I love my "new" kitchen and I highly recommend Dave and his team and I will absolutely use him again!.
