Having used Lewis twice before to replace basement carpeting, I went into the showroom to shop for bedroom carpeting and stair/hallway carpeting expecting the same great service. Unfortunately, the salesperson who was helping me clearly did not hear me when I communicated price ranges that I was comfortable with. I was shown wools for my stairs and hallway, which was just a way to get me spend more money because wool is NOT practical for me with children and dogs at home. Despite my saying this, she went on and on showing me carpet styles that would not work with my space and price range. My price range was pretty healthy (up to $8.00 sq.ft. for bedrooms, and $11.00 for hallways/stairs) but I got the distinct impression the salesperson was trying to get me to up my price. Very unprofessional, and they lost my business. I did bring home a couple of sample boards and returned them within 48 hours. I returned them to the lovely receptionist who checked the samples and provided me with a return receipt. Imagine my surprise when 2 days later the salesperson who had been helping me called to tell me that I failed to return one of the sample boards. When I asked to speak to her manager, she quickly apologized and hung up.

Their measurer/installer was prompt, courteous, answered all my questions in advance, the shades were ordered and came in promptly/within the timeframe agreed upon and were installed at a time convenient for me -- a weekend morning. They look great -- I've gotten lots of compliments and they make our time in those rooms more pleasant because of how they manage the light entering the room.

All installation was performed by sub-contractors with varying levels of quality, care, and customer satisfaction. The house-brand engineered hardwood flooring product was beautiful in appearance but, as it turns out, is very, very susceptible to scratching and denting (not highly resilient) (for reference: walnut engineered flooring, From The Forest brand). The day after installation we found numerous scratches in the hardwood flooring left behind from the installation process itself. Then with subsequent construction activities, additional damage was done to the flooring. While some was due to negligence by the construction contractors, we have also found that over the 2 short weeks we've had this material in our house that it is very easily scratched and dented in everyday wear & tare. I can't recommend this particular hardwood product to other customers. The carpet installation by their carpeting sub-contractors was very poorly performed and required a follow-up visit to get the edging properly laid down. Still, there were corners where the edges were not at all flush with the wall and will require additional service visits to patch-up the bald spots. So far, Lewis has been responsive to our calls for follow-up service and we anticipate that they will follow through to resolve these installation mishaps. However, we selected Lewis (as opposed to cheaper options or big-box providers) assuming that their product quality and installation services would be top-notch and would not require so much follow-up attention.
Description of Work: Replaced flooring with engineered hardwood in a combined kitchen and living room space, replaced carpet in 2 bedrooms, and tile in a utility/cleaning closet.

April 14th. Sharon from Lewis kindly called me to offer to fix my floor at my total expense. Since we have "paid" for it continuously for ten years with disappointment and frustration I had to decline. We have never had even a week after a repair without the grout fracturing. All we ever wanted was for them to take responsibility and ownership that our floor was a bad job from the beginning. It should have been repaired properly after the grout continued to crack for months. Grouting over cracked grout hasn't held up. I Just wouldn't use Lewis if you expect a company to stand by their service if there is a problem!!!! APRIL 8th 2014 I had my 4th contractor opinion and they said it was a bad installation. Said the underlayment was not screwed in. It LITERALLY cracked within two days of doing it. They should have fixed it. LEWIS RESPONSE IS 100% NOT TRUE. AND THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. AND they should have taken up that section when they did it since it never looked good. And if its my house it doesn't explain the layers of different color grout from when they patched but didn't take out the old cracked grout. We have had many people look at it and they say the part under the tile was not done right. Lewis did the prep. The movement is because of the poor installation. One contractor did a test with a spoon and said it was hollow under the cracks. Mr Lewis has never come to see this floor to see why we have never been able to enjoy it. If this floor belonged to anyone that worked there they would be just as upset as us. Tile grout in the floor cracked next day six feet long fracture in traffic pattern in front of fridge. Owner came out from subcontractor The Tiler Group and said why fix it. It will crack again. They never advertised cracked grout or showed us places in the showroom and said here's how a bad tile job looks. They didn't seal the grout as they didn't believe in it then. The grout continued to crack and flake and peel and they sent out the manager who moved the fridge and saw the grout was powder. Grout was disappearing all over. He sent someone to regrout. Now we had two colors. They didn't take all the grout out so it kept cracking and they sent the guy again. I have about five colors from five different repairs. They never fixed it. Then they said its the tile shape. First of all the tile is flat and second if it wasn't right for grouting why sell it or tell the people. I have contacted them with calls and letters and mass emails for years. This is the WORST floor they ever did. We have never been able to get pleasure from it. They did my neighbors and moms per my recommendation and theirs are perfect. I remember when the two young guys did it they were laughing about being hung over. I have asked at least 50 times if I could pay Mr Lewis to come over and see it. I have said if he thought his wife would be happy with it or if he thought it was representative of Lewis then I would back off. He has NOT come. Two years ago he told his tiler to come see it again and they never returned my calls and Sharon said they weren't coming. Obviously its movement that happens when the dura rock or whatever they used was not anchored properly. I have had many contractors look at it and they said it wasn't done right. Lewis did ALL the work and inspected it before. I was told the underlayment was not done right. We live in our kitchen and it depresses us every day. There are holes and cracks and fractures. I swear it has been bad since they did it. First they said the grout was too dry. Then they said the grout was too wet and dried too fast. The last time they looked at it years ago they told ME to wipe off the dry foggy grout on the tile hours later to give it more moisture. I have literally begged Mr Lewis to look at it. I welcome Angies to send anyone here IF this floor was representative of their quality they would be out of business. I go to malls and their bathroom floors don't look like this. I have never seen a floor like this. Last year I wrote a letter and emailed again and they act like I was bothering them. No one has cared how it looks. No one said they were sorry no one took responsibility. If you want I will send you pictures. I swear on anything you want that this is the total truth and I am understating it. When they did it they said don't walk on it until the next day. We waited three. We went out the front door. We had two small dogs and inconvenienced ourselves longer. People have big dogs and tile. They said dogs have nothing to do with it. It is disgusting. It looks filthy as it has never been sealed and each repair the grout looked different which I could accept if it stayed. They never offered to pay to have someone else try and fix it. They basically said tough luck from the beginning. I also swear that their tile guy joe and manager Sharon said multiple times that it WAS NOT our fault. In fact I wash each tile separately so I don't get the grout wet as it still comes out and we see powder or chunks. ANGIES LIST - PLEASE HELP to fix this. It didn't last one day. My husband mentions it four times a week. I have never had a company care so little and be so arrogant about a problem with their labor and installation. Why won't Mr Lewis look at it. Then he will see why we can't give up. He would be totally humiliated.
Description of Work: Came over for estimate before and then after we ripped up linoleum floor to inspect floor for tiling job. Said it was perfect. I offered to pay them for any repairs or to have a contractor fix anything and they said not necessary. Installed tile floor and backsplash

When Lewis Floor and Home was contacted the first time you had concerns, we came and repaired your floor. We responded to all your phone calls after that. We came out to your home and told you it was a structural issue with your home that we are unable to fix. Unfortunately it is a problem that would keep reappearing. Again, we apologize for the issues you are having.

I picked out a Kravat rug that had to be custom ordered back in June. The estimated deliver time on the rug was about 4 months. About a week after I placed the order I received a call from the sales rep telling me that Kravat had changed the materials on the rug I ordered. It was now going to be a combination of wool and viscose instead of 100% viscose. The reason for the change was that customers were having problems with the rug. They didn't know (or wouldn't tell me) what those problems were. I said I was fine with the changes but they couldn't place the order until I approved the new strike-off. The new strike-off hadn't been made yet, so I waited 5 weeks for that to come in. When it did, the colors were completely different than the original rug I had ordered. Luckily it still worked with the other fabrics in the room. I went ahead and placed the order. It was July by this point. The rug finally came in in November. After they laid the rug, I noticed that there were some loose viscose fibers all over the rug. I wasn't too concerned because that's happened with new carpet I've had installed. I cleaned up the loose fibers, but more appeared. It's been three months and the rug is still trhowing off loose fibers. I called the sales person and Lewis and the immediate response I got was "it's your vacuum." He then switched me over to customer service and she said :"it's your cat." I was not at all happy with the quick-draw blame the customer response I was getting. I asked to have someone please come to the house to look at the rug. That person came to the house, looked at the rug, could see the loose viscose fibers across the entire rug. He took some pictures and left. Later I got a call from Bridget who told me it was "quite evident" from the photos that my cat was pulling up the fibers. She was incredibly rude and kept speaking over me so I couldn't get a word in edgewise. It's not the cat doing the damage. The cat sleeps in the basement all day and is upstairs only when I'm home. If the cat was doing anything to the rug I'd see it. I see him using his scratching posts every day. The loose fibers are individual and spread across the whole rug. That's just not the pattern you'd see if an animal was damaging it -- you'd see clumps of fibers loose in a few favored spots. But she wouldn't listen to me. She raised her voice and just talked right over me. It was about the most unprofessional display of customer service I've experienced. I've purchased three expensive rugs and a room full of carpet in the past 9 months from this company. They have just lost a good customer.

I had 4 bathrooms to finish. I didn't realize that the salespeople are fiercely territorial. I have young children so I couldn't plan my visits to the store around the salesperson's schedule. So one day I worked with Person A and the next time I went in Person A was off for the day. I worked with Person B who asked if I minded if A and B shared credit for the order. Bad idea because I couldn't get either A or B to answer questions about the estimate I received. I ended up ordering the bulk of my materials from a supplier who had helpful salespeople. Oh and Person A called me to whine about my having talked to Person B. It was a shame because the store has a nice selection of tile. Gave Person A another chance and placed a small order for rug pads. Person A never called me to tell me when they were ready for pickup.

The salesmen was very attentive to me and helpful in making my selection. I felt like other companies did not really care as much as Lewis Floor & Home. Scheduling went well and everything went great with the installation. I had asked for a sample cutting of the carpet and the colors were not matching well so they had to custom dye the carpet for me so it took awhile to actually get the carpet.

The end result was ok, but the quality was not as good as the original floor installer. The wood used appears to be lower quality and there are gaps in the seams between the boards. They did not communicate well with me or keep me informed of the progress of the work.

Could not have been a better experience--beginning with Sales Rep, Stacey Ulrey. First met with her in March, 2013. Knew the exact carpet I wanted. Lewis was one of 5 resources I checked out. Stacey advised advised me of a sale pricing promotion, which I took advantage of., immediately advised me of backorder situation with my particular carpet, enabling me to decided if I wanted to wait or substitute with a different carpet. The few times I checked in with her via email to check on the carpet delivery process, she immediately responded, and the timing she advised was accurate. Yesterday was the installation--Stacey had advised an arrival time window of 8:30 AM to 10 AM. Victor and Hugo arrived at 8 AM, and I was thrilled. They took up the old carpet and disposed of it. They cleaned up the messy floors underneath the old carpet and installed new, better quality capet anchors around the perimeter of each room. They did a beautiful job in laying the carpet and custom fitting the areas that had to fit into closets. The original floor plan showed one seam for the entire job--they completed the job with no seams. Victor and Hugo lovely men--polite and respectful. They vacuumed the hallways in my condo corridors where carpet fibers had fallen before leaving the building. The job was finished by 4:30 PM and I was delighted with the workmanship, professionalism and my new carpet!!

We were welcomed and greeted promptly. The sales staff showed us several carpet options based on our needs and price range. She allowed us to take home samples to view in our home. When we decided to buy through them, we were given a discount (unprompted) as a previous customer 15 years prior. We were told it would be two weeks before the carpeting could be installed and were pleasantly surprised when it took less than that. The carpet installers were professional and efficient. They did a really nice job and also offered helpful hints for spot cleaning the rug. We definitely will use Lewis Floor & Home again!
Description of Work: Lewis provided sales and services for selecting new carpeting for our family room (in their showroom). Carpet installation also provided by Lewis: they removed and disposed of the old carpeting and pad; they laid new pad, carpeting in family room and stairs. Carpet installers had to move several oversized pieces of furniture to complete the job, which we really appreciated.

Just to be clear I ended up not using Lewis Floor & Home so no idea how they are after purchase e.g. Installation etc. Mine should have been the EASIEST and quickest of sales. I was given two flooring samples by a decorator friend from Lewis Floor. I called and spoke to Jennifer and explained that I wanted one of these two floorings for my basement and asked if she could check to see what was in stock. Jennifer launched into needing my credit card to charge me $75 (refundable if you purchase) for someone to come during the next week and measure the surface, despite my having previously explained it was 350sq feet. Here is where the alarm bells should have begun to chime. Since when does a service charge to tell you how much you are going to pay them? But hey....my friend had used them and I was all about getting my recently flooded basement back in order so I coughed up the credit card number. A several days go by and still no call from Jennifer about what the status of stock for my two choices. So I call to leave a message...by the way, I don't know who designed Lewis Floor & Home's labyrinth of a phone system for connecting customers, but I would like to know so I NEVER use it in my business. Next day I call and leave another message. Three or four days later no return call but I get an email explaining the in stock status and and asking if they would be installing and would I be needing baseboards or baseshoe.....whatever a baseshoe is. My point is that email can be great, but sometimes especially with a customer process you can accomplish in one phone call what ten emails accomplish. So now it's back to the labyrinth phone system to try and find out why on earth I would not need baseboards or baseshoes's. So now a week later my $150 an hour flooring guy ($75 for at most a 30 minute visit) visits. Several more days go by and nothing, so back to the labyrinth phone. I leave another message asking for the estimate. Two days later another random email arrives from Jennifer with two $4,000 options, minimal explanations of the options, a demand for 50% and a place to sign on the bottom line. I am now into this 3 weeks and I don't think I have the patience to go though that phone system again to ask them to explain the two options before giving them $4,000. Maybe Lewis Floor & Home does great work, but Olson Rug guy came out 16 hours after initial contact to measure (for free), gave me his card to contact him directly and explained that if I had any questions to feel free to call him. My blood pressure goes down 10 points just thinking of the Olson experience. Now if I could just get my wife to decide between the two samples. ;-)

I visited the Northbrook show room several times, searching for the carpet fabric, texture and color I wanted. I was allowed to bring home numerous samples. I also met with the sales person for window treatments and provided with ideas and guidance to suit my needs. A person came to my home to measure the area for carpeting and we discussed the best area to include a seam. Later a different person cam to measure for window treatments. At the time arranged, carpet installers promptly arrived and removed old carpet and padding. They installed new padding and carpet, hauling out old carpet and leaving no mess inside. On another day, the window treatment installer arrived to install blinds and patio vertical panels. I was very pleased with the support by sales personnel and the quality of products purchased.

Description of Work: We were doing a large remodeling project and went there for some of the purchases including counterops, cabinets, and bathroom tile.

I would love to break thru the IRON CURTAIN of Sharon in customer service and Michelle (who just seems exhausted) and have the actual owner of this company call my family to discuss how horrible their service has been -- They market themselves as a family-owned company. Words can't explain the amount of phone calls swapped with this company. We have spent a serious amount of money with them and after 60 days they still have not resolved a flooring issue that they acknowledge is defective! Their inspector told us that Sharon in customer service had the same floor installed in her office and it was defective so she is getting a new one -- Oh, where is ours Sharon? I have a voicemail from Sharon in customer service saying she has "go ahead" to replace a carpet in our home not to mention an inspector telling me it is "clearly defective" but 10 days later Sharon now says that an outside inspector needs to come in or they will send their carpet cleaner. If this company knew what was right they would have had an owner (are they not a family owned company?), call me to resolve this matter. Or, did they just think you can rip people off on the north shore?
Description of Work: Flooring put in basement was approx $20,000 -- was defective but company refused to acknowledge for two months and finally did but we now are dealing directly with manufacturer and they accept no involvement. Master bedroom carpet was approx $7,000 and company inspector said "clearly defective", customer service said it would be replaced, still not replace. Other rooms carpeted by them they brought the wrong carpet and argued with me over the phone that it was the correct carpet until they finally sent someone over with a sample from their show room that proved otherwise.

Response from Lewis Floor & Home
In regards to the basement flooring we sent Larry Giampa, the Herregan flooring representative to the Flannery's home on Sat. Feb. 4th. At that time all parties agreed that the floor looked fine. He explained to them that during the installation the temperature was a bit cold and the glue didn't adhear perfectly. Herregan makes a specific repair kit and we immediatly went to the job sit and repaired it. All parties were in agreement on 2/4/2012. What Larry also told them is that Lewis Floor and Home stands behind their work. He also told them he personally stands behind the product and at any time there is an issue, he would come back to the home to inspect. All parties were in agreement at that time. With respect to the master bedroom carpet, we are having it independantly inspected. The carpet mill, Kane, has contracted Richard Levey to go inspect and write a report. This is happening 2/8/2012. If the carpet is defected, it will be replaced. Remember this carpet was installed 11 months ago and there were no issues at that time. At this point we are doing everything possible to remedy any and all issues the customer has. Our goal is to beautify your home and make you happy.

We needed new carpet for a room addition. As the time frame was short, we only looked at "in stock" carpeting and found a good selection. The sales person was knowledgeable, and patient. When we went home to think about what to purchase there was no hard sell or annoying followup.Once we decided to move forward, the salesperson was again patient and helpful. The in home measurement was done the next day and the carpet was installed 4 days later. Installation was quick and easy and very professionally done. the pad they used was better than I thought they might use give that their prices include pad and installation. They even vaccuumed before they left!I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

Sales Consultant Bruce Mazurkiewicz spent a great deal of time (and had a great deal of patience) helping me select a carpet to coordinate with some very strange fabric colors. He was extremely knowledgeable about Lewis's products and made very helpful suggestions. He inspired confidence in his expertise. The installers were prompt, meticulous and thorough. I learned of Lewis Floor by word of mouth; I spread the word whenever possible, which has resulted in at least one new, happy customer for Bruce. The entire staff at Lewis Floor is professional and welcoming. I will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: I purchased carpeting from Lewis Floor and had them install the carpeting.
