We contracted with Fred Dadrass (Dadrass Painting) to have our living room, dining room and kitchen painted using Benjamin Moore and Martha Stewart paints. He was recommended to us. He / his crew ended up not using the Benjamin Moore brand but color matched the selected Benjamin Moore color with Behr paint. When the crew came with the paints, none of the cans said Benjamin Moore. I called Fred to specifically to ask whether they were using Benjamin Moore paints and he confirmed that they were using Benjamin Moore as a final coat. He added that he was using Behr just as a primer. Almost two months later (July 2010), post drying period, the eggshell Martha Stewart paint we used for the dining room and kitchen sticks to anything we lay against it. I called Fred to come inspect the job and offer reasons/suggestions for why this is happening. When he came he said he just came to see that they did a good job and he believed that they in fact did. I told him about the paint sticking to anything we lay against it (brooms, mops, etc) and he said we are not suppose to hit things against the wall. I assured him we don't hit things against the wall. Anything we lay against it sticks to the paint and pulls the paint off, revealing the drywall white. We have not put up pictures and wall fixtures because of this, afraid that we'll ruin the walls. He said we must be hitting things against the wall. He did not offer any constructive explanations or suggestions and was pretty defensive. I've read online that if the painters did not prime properly this might happen. I told Fred I was not sure if this is the reason why, but wondered if it was a possibility. He said it was not. I would've felt better about the company if Fred even acknowledged this as a possible reason. Regarding the use of Behr paint versus Benjamin Moore, Fred had no recollection of my partner requesting Benjamin Moore, nor did he have any recollection of me calling him to confirm that Benjamin Moore was used when I only noticed Behr and Martha Stewart cans after their first day on the job. Fred also did not recall his previous excuse that Behr was only being used as a primer. This time he said, unapologetic, that Behr was the paint we chose. Extremely dissatisfied with specific professionalism and the work Dadrass Painting did. Another minor thing that I could have overlooked if the job was done properly was the small splatters of paint on our wood floors. It wasn't a big deal when I inspected the job after it was done, but now in addition to the other things I think this amounts to Dadrass being an unprofessional painting company in my mind. We don't want them to redo the job. We in fact don't trust them and cannot recommend them to anyone. Also, if you do go with these guys, get more in writing than we did. Fred only gave my partner an estimate that did not have paint selections on it. He did not give her a receipt for the work done either.
Description of Work: We contracted to have our kitchen, dining room, and living room painted. Fred did not perform the work himself. He just inspected it.
