Contacted them to by phone on 7/16/21 at about 9:30 am was told the estimators were busy but was asked to send an email of photo's I had of the problem as well as my contact info and estimator would be in touch. I sent email and received a reply from Billing Mgr at 10:02 am. That is the last I heard from them. Ended up getting work done by another company that actually replied back to me (that same day). With all of the other glowing reviews of this company on Angles list, I'm surprised.

Hello [Member Name Removed]. I am sorry that we disappointed you. I am the controller for Castino Painting and Home Services. I am investigating your claim that you were not contacted by an estimator from our company. I currently can not find any emails sent by you to our billing manager or from our billing manager to you. If you would kindly forward the emails that you sent and received to me, tim@castinopainting.com, I would greatly appreciate it. I take these matters very seriously and will address the issue.

I have been very satisfied with the work performed and finished areas look great. Mike Fuche (co-owner/estimator) is responsive, easy to work with, and quotes fair prices for the work involved. It’s great to have a contractor that I can turn to with trust and rely upon to take care of the job timely and professionally.
Excellent painting of walls and repair of cracks in ceiling and one water damaged wall. Crew Georg and Toto very considerate and cleaned up after themselves. Very efficient. Some difficulty/misunderstanding about work to be done, but the owner made it right. I appreciate that very much. Thank you Castino!

I had to repair my chimney above the roof line. Steve Small (co-owner) came on-site himself to look at the condition of the chimney and provided two options -- a rebuild and a repair. It was once again easy to work with Castino. They are honest, timely, and professional. Steve explains the work, the options, and cost differences. They are on-time for estimate, turned around the quotes quickly, and scheduled the work promptly. They even finished the work more quickly than expected and reduced the labor portion of the invoice accordingly. Would hire again.

During the polar vortex of 2019, we had a pipe in our basement burst. Cases of water damage were all over the north side, but Castino came out the next day to provide an assessment. Steve Small was very responsive. They were able to start the work the day after. They cut out sections of wet dry wall, removed baseboards, preventative spray for mold, and set fans. John Harvey provided estimates for installing/repairing the drywall and baseboards and repainting. They came back later to complete that work. Work was very high quality. Slobo was on-site for part of five days. As we are contemplating remodeling our basement, we just had them paint the repaired areas, but the paint matches perfectly. Everything looks better than before. Would definitely use them again.

In the end I went with another company. I met with somebody very briefly who came out to my house -- nice and all who came out and gave me an estimate, but I just did not go ahead and follow up with them to have them do the work. He was professional. I don't have anything negative to say. The estimate was free. I made it very clear to them that this was going to be a free estimate. I was pleased with the gentleman that came out. I found it very easy to communicate with them and for him to understand what my concerns were and what I was looking for. I explained to him what i wanted, there was no hesitation and he understood what exactly I wanted done with the living room, dining room and hallway on the paint job. He came out with company materials -- a binder and all that -- very professional. i thought the presentation and how he came across was very positive. Basically it came down to the warranty issue. If I remember it correctly I am almost certain they were not going to offer any kind of warranty that I could use as incentive for selling my condo. I think that is the ultimate reason I didn't end up going with them.

They are excellent. They were on Angie's List, that's how I got them to begin with. They finished last week. The price was average and the quality was excellent. I used them about 4 years where they did some outside painting and a few places that needed some attention. The good thing about them, if you have a small place that needs to be touched up or whatever, they will do that. I don't call them just for a small thing but sometimes you have different things in the house here and there, they will take care of that. That was mostly outside painting. I would call them in a second if I needed them for something. They are all personable, they clean up after themselves, I have all good things to say about them. The workers are excellent, an A.

We hired Castino for interior/exterior painting, and for carpet cleaning. Work was done on time and on budget. We subsequently had some water in our basement from an air conditioner issue. Castino came immediately and dried everything out and put it back in shape. I would particularly like to compliment John (restoration) and Paco (carpet) for being prompt, professional, and pleasant to work with.

They were wonderful (everyone from Steve to Peter to Fro and Alberto, etc). They were professional, honest, hard working, easy to schedule and just an all around pleasure to work with. We highly recommend them and would definitely use them again. We are very happy with the work!
Description of Work: Repaired our home after a pipe burst in our upstairs bathroom and did significant damage to our entryway, dining room, fireplace room, powder room and downstairs hallway.
Firstly, the patch work was done very sloppy. The dryvit was then painted over with a color that I was promised was going to fade and match my home in the future. It has not faded and it is a mess of splotches of paint all over my home. Additionally other companies have patched the dryvit and the correct way to do it is to get a match of the dryvit and then apply it, not paint over it in small spots. The work above the roof has been inspected by dryvit inspectors and was not installed properly. Castino was supposed to leave some space between the roof line and the dryvit and this was not done. All of the patching that was done is cracking and a mess. I have had three other companies and a dryvit inspector here and they are all shocked at how bad the work is. I contacted Castino in the summer to tell them that the work they did is a mess. I was told because it has been more than 5 years they wont do anything to remedy the situation. I did not know that the way they did the work was incorrect until now when it is all falling apart. Please do yourself a favor and do not use this company for any EIFS work, it is apparent they did not know what they were doing and will not stand behind their work. If there is a place on this website that I can show picture of what they did to my home that would tell the story so much better, you definitely would not use them.
Description of Work: Two jobs in 2009/2010 approximately. Called Castino to patch woodpecker holes and again to fix the dryvit after a new small roof was repaired over my front door.

To properly address the comments made by [Member Name Removed]requires some context in order to be certain there is no misrepresentation. First we were called by{Member Name Removed]on a number of occasions to provide estimates for potential work, some of which we were hired to do, some of which she declined. In July 2007 we performed flood restoration services which [Member Name Removed]delayed paying for 4 months (which we highly discounted to finally receive payment). In March 2008 we provided an estimate for woodpecker damage and repairs to the dryvit near her hip roof which we were not hired to perform. March 2009 we were contacted for an estimate for the same work which was now worse because of water intrusion due to the fact that the dryvit as originally installed by a different contractor was done improperly (there was no flashing between the dryvit and the roof line of her hip roof and in many other places around her home). In June of 2009 we installed the missing flashing above her hip roof as well as replaced rotten wood/dryvit in the same area as a result of the water damage and repaired any woodpecker holes. Despite what[Member Name Removed] claims we did in fact terminate the dryvit at the proper point (allowing a gap between the dryvit and the shingles to prevent the dryvit from wicking moisture resulting in damage). At the time of the estimate and on the contract it states very clearly that repairs to the dryvit will be “painted to match the existing color as close as possible”. We categorically do not “promise” customers that the paint we apply will match exactly and fade evenly with time since color on exterior surfaces fades unevenly itself, depending on which side of the house it’s on and how much/little sun exposure it may receive. Additionally we mentioned that there were other areas where water intrusion was likely going to occur due to there being no flashing installed around her home but {Member Name Removed] declined to have us perform the necessary repairs as she was “thinking of selling the home.” It took 3 months to pay us for the work we had most recently performed. In June 2010 roof was still leaking in multiple areas, specifically some bedrooms and sliding doors (again we had only repaired the dryvit and installed flashing around her hip roof per her direction). We told if she was to get the flashing repaired around her home as needed, we would repair the dryvit at no charge. We performed the dryvit repairs which totaled $533.00 that we did not charge her for as was agreed upon. Later we were to learn that the flashing we recommended she have replaced was in fact not done. In Sept. 2010 called to say that water was leaking into her home from a window. In Oct. 2010 we caulked around the window in question as well as all of the other windows, performed repairs to her chimney and installed a screen door. Again {Member Name Removed] delayed paying us for our services for 4 months. In Oct 2013 {Member Name Removed] was given an estimate to repair woodpecker holes and paint the entire exterior of her home as she was getting ready to sell but the estimate was declined. In April 2014 she asked for an estimate to replace 3 French doors and 2 sliding doors due to rot from water intrusion as well as to repair the dryvit as needed and perform repairs/painting in 2 bedrooms, kitchen and great room which also had water damage as a result of the improper installation of the dryvit on her home but our estimate was again declined. In Sept. 2014 [Member Name Removed] asked for an estimate for the same work as well as floors refinished and the 1st floor walls, ceilings and trim painted. She asked if we had done those repairs previously (we hadn’t) and if we did it clearly wasn’t done properly. {Member Name Removed] made no mention of ever having her roof replaced or flashing installed in order to stop major water intrusion per our recommendation, which was the source of all of the interior damage (doors, windows, walls, ceilings, etc.) as well as the damage to the dryvit and plywood wall between dryvit and her interior. The work we actually performed constitutes a rather small portion of the larger surface area of {Member Name Removed] home that apparently still has unresolved issues. We made her aware of a much larger problem and recommended what be done to resolve it yet she apparently took no action. In conclusion it is also important to note that the same truth applies to dryvit as it does to stucco: that it either is cracked or is going to crack. Our warranty specifically states our terms over a 3 year period of time. Now, nearly 5-6 years has passed and {Member Name Removed] sees fit to call our work into question and try to say we don’t know what we’re doing and won’t stand behind our work when in fact much of the problems exist because she decided against taking action which we cannot be held responsible for.
First off, Very few companies still do stucco in Chicagoland so it is very difficult to find a competitive price. Out of the five companies that returned my calls, Castinos was prompt with a quote and their estimator Paul was very professional. Castinos was two out of four that gave me a quote that was fair but was for an hourly rate that left the final total open. I decided to sign the contract because a neighbor had recommended them and quality of work. My first disappointment was when they did not return calls to confirm their arrival or start time for workers. I was awoken at 700 am Monday to a power washer on the side of my house. The stucco workers did the same but only arrived at 8am. The quality of stucco work is not exact and some spots still show outlines of where old windows were covered up. Some areas that should have been replaced are bulging and do not look professional. I did a walk through with the head stucco guy but could not see any defects due to the difference in contrast. The following week I called and left a message to confirm the painters arrival on the following Monday and to discuss what color paint. Again, no call back. I was greeted at the front door early Monday morning by painters asking what color I wanted to paint the house. I, in a groggy haze, responded, "Same color as the garage, Gray" When all the house was painted and the contrast was uniform many defects could be visible, such as: outlines of previous coverups, bulging areas, and mismatched textures. I complained to the company but was told that you did a walk through and gave your ok any more work would be an hourly charge. Buyer beware,

Response from Castino Painting, Stucco, Restoration
First off, we are sorry that Mr. Y. is not satisfied with the process or outcome of the project he contracted Castino to perform but we must address some inaccurancies in the review that was written: 1. In response to the first claim that Castino did not return calls to confirm the start date/arrival time; our scheduler had spoken with Mr. Y. over the phone to confirm a start date of 8/10 for the power washing/stucco work and 8/17 for the paint crew as well as stating a start time between 7:30-8am for each. We certainly do apologize for having begun power washing earlier than stated if this caused a disturbance to Mr. Y. or his family. 2. It should be clarified that the condition of the home prior to Castino starting the project was in complete disarray; uneven surfaces, previous patches applied to the stucco which did not match the existing texture or color of the home whatsoever and some areas which were missing stucco altogether. However, the scope of the job as determined by Mr. Y. was to repair/patch only the damaged stucco and install new stucco as other areas required per client’s direction. The project was never meant to be a complete removal & installation of all new stucco. It’s also important to note that with any stucco job areas which have been repaired/painted will always be slightly visible upon completion. With that in mind it was determined and agreed upon by Mr. Y. that the best appraoch to this project was on a Time & Material basis with a projected total of $13,500 (for labor only). The end total (including material costs) was $16,138.23 not $16,800 as Mr. Y. claims. 3. There was never any phone calls from Mr. Y. inquiring as to whether or not the painters would arrive on the date/time previously agreed upon. In fact there was very little communication between Mr. Y. and Castino or the estimator outside of the original appointment, follow up calls to answer questions concerning the project prior to agreement and with the scheduler to confirm start times/dates as previously stated. 4. Again, many defects and variations from normal aging to a turn of the century home and previous patches applied by other contractors already existed on the surface and it was never requested that all such surfaces be made uniform. Rather that the damaged, cracked, missing stucco be repaired/installed. Additionally any repairs and/or patches that are performed/applied to a pre-existing stucco surface will always be slightly visible upon completion, even after a new paint job. This was clearly stated to Mr. Y. at the time of the estimate appointment. 5. Once again, there was never any communication between Mr. Y. and Castino or the estimator once the project was completed either during or after the project was completed. However, due to the fact that the prject was done on a Time & Materials basis to begin with, any additional work that would have been requested would also have been done on the same basis. 6. Had Mr. Y. contacted us during or even shortly after his project we would have been more than happy to address the issues he had in order to be certain that he was a satisfied customer. As it is, unless there is clear communication between the two parties there is little we can be expected to do in order to avoid not meeting with Mr. Y’s, or any customers, unmet expectations other than to follow the project as originally outlined at the time of the estimate appointment.

They were lousy. Their contract specified that they would use a particular type of paint which they did not use. Their contract I think if I may recall required specified to use acrylic paint than non acrylic paint. I discovered that and brought that to their attention and they were willing to give me a $100 credit or something to that for the paint. However, I took photos and one of the arrangements was they were supposed to leave paint after the work they were painting for us which they did leave and that's when I discovered that the paint that they left was not the acrylic paint that they had specified and had a vendors thing around it which I'm familiar with and I brought this to their attention and the store they bought it. They then dropped off tins of paint that were the type of paint that they specified, however the paint had another contractor's name on it. Then when I asked for a receipt they provided me a receipt from a different store that did not match the paint that they didn't purchase from the store locally, so we went around and finally I contacted my attorney and he came back to my attorney saying, "Well, there was no harm done and the paint that was used was as good as paint that we would have used." And my point was the contract specified a certain kind of paint and they didn't use it. He didn't tell me and he didn't inform me. I even painted parts of the house which different kinds of paint. I would never use them again and I would never recommend them again.
Description of Work: We used Castino Painting. They did exterior painting of the lower portion of the town house unit fully.
