The items were picked up on 7-19-17 and after the truck was loaded the movers demanded a 35% higher deposit to ship my goods. When I refused, they said they would impound my possessions unless I paid them the difference in cash. I reluctantly paid them the difference. Now it's 9-5-17 and nothing has been delivered. Repeated calls to the company, the Il and Fl Attorney General's office, the DOT, various police departments, and a private attorney has not help me get my items delivered. I can only assume they have stolen all my lifelong possessions as they will no longer respond. Do not under any circumstances use this company!
Description of Work: Needed all of my household possessions moved from my home near Belleville, IL to my new home in Leesburg, Fl. The items were picked up on 7-19-17 and after the truck was loaded the movers demanded a 35% higher deposit to ship my goods. First of all, Do NOT Hire This Company. I reserved with them SEVEN WEEKS in advance (reservation made on May 8th for picking up on June 30th to move my things from MA to FL). I was called and told that they would either come the 29th or the 30th and that they would call me a week ahead of time to tell me which day. They Didn't Call. Starting 6 days before pick up I started TRYING TO CONTACT THEM. I emailed three times in three days then called and left messages three times in 2 days. No RESPONSE. No one at "customer service" (I put the quotes deliberately) Ever picked up the phone; Not Once! BUT when I hit #1 for SALES... THEY picked up! None of them could or would tell me which day the truck would be there to get my things. At this point I was packed with just the bed down on the floor and a folding table and chair just in case they arrived on the 29th. The 28th came and went with the "Sales" person saying "If they Don't call you by the end of the day, they Won't be coming tomorrow the 29th". THAT'S the BEST they could tell me?!? I got one phone call on the 29th to say the truck would be there between 9 and 11 AM on the 30th. At 11:40AM the 30th I called them asking where the truck was... "OH, we are having 'technical difficulty', the truck will be coming between 3:00 and 5:00PM." THEN at around 1:30 some guy calls from a completely unknown trucking company to arrange picking up my stuff. Now I was told by United Movers Group that they absolutely did NOT use third-party trucks - that they owned all the trucks and would be doing all the moving for me. This guy that called WAS third-party and had "Just Gotten The Order to move my stuff - Short Notice!" (I made my reservation SEVEN WEEKS IN ADVANCE). That trucking guy said he would call back and never did and never showed up. Three messages left with United Movers That afternoon went unanswered. Five O'clock on that Friday came and went - the Friday before July 4th weekend. The next day, Sat, July 1st, I rented a U-HAUL, Packed some things into the truck with a friend and I; the next morning I paid some guys to move the rest into the truck. Then my dear friend and I drove my things to Florida. NOW... I called United Movers Group on July 7th to get my $700.00 deposit back. Again, called multiple times; ONLY the SALES Dept would pick up the phone. Got put on Hold for Long periods of time or was flat-out disconnected. I was told the checks go out on the first and the 15th so Mine would go out on the 15th (a Saturday and they don't work Saturdays). So I figured it would go out on Monday the 17th - today is the 25th and my $700.00 has Not gotten here yet. I have called multiple times to try to get them to tell me ANY information about WHEN the check got SENT! And the LIES these folks tell, oh so easily, is astounding. "Oh the accounting department JUST went to lunch. But they will call you as soon as they get back." Two hours later I call them Again (because They DIDN'T call me back) and... "The accounting people have GONE HOME FOR THE DAY!" "But Oh, you are going to get your refund, but it takes a Really Long time for the check to get to you." When did you mail it? None of the representatives with whom I spoke could or Would give me an answer to That question. I Was told by one of them that the check was "Cut on the 16th" - That was a SUNDAY and if they are beating feet out of the office at 4:00pm on a weekday, they Really are NOT at work on a Sunday to cut a check. You know what the sad thing is? I am writing the SHORT VERSION of my dealings with this awful company. Bottom line is this company had SEVEN WEEKS to get it together to get a truck to my house and NEVER CAME THROUGH. They Never; Not Once; returned any form of contact either email or phone call. The ONLY department that picked up the phone was their Sales Dept - they Want to SELL you but after that they Seriously drop the ball. Then they act like you don't deserve any of the information you try to get out of them. AND THEY LIE. Over and over they lie. I spoke with quite a few people and got lies out of most of them. And I Still don't have my refund for my deposit! I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and am sending the BBB after them for my $700.00 deposit. Do NOT Hire This Company.
